That is so funny & lame at same time but can't expect much from them, they are desperate badly.

They should be disqualified for that, period !

PS: Also there is no way to make last comments show up 1st ? Getting tired to scrol all the way down..

Other games, the fans rallied and voted.

ESO, the company had to post on their launcher for their fans to go support them...lol

If you cant win with just the Elder Scroll IP alone, that pretty much tells you the game is bad.

TSW did the same. If you know anything about statistics also, you'll know to get the most accurate results, you need the largest sample size. This means getting the word out to the most people who play the game.

I'm sorry, I was completely content to remain a lurker about, reading this thread, until you spewed this utter load of crap.

The Secret World did NOT do the same as ESO; nowhere, absolutely NOWHERE in their game was there any mention of this contest. Not on the login screen, not posted in comments or any of the chats in-game. You are flat out lying. Or perhaps, you're simply mimicking a mis-truth you heard through four or five other sources. Whatever your story may be, what you said simply is not true, and you need to deal with it.

I found out about this contest through my roommate; she's a huge Redditor, and there were threads for both The Secret World and Elder Scrolls Online. Two for each, one for the contest, one after. I, as a player of both games, have the benefit of access to both forums and communities. Let's just say, the same communal nonsense on the ESO forum is the precise reason I don't sub there any longer, when I was perfectly content to spend cash on both games previously.

I truly love the ESO game, it is phenomenal. I do not like its community. I've stated it several times to the staff when I dropped my sub. I seriously love what they have in that game, I sat making characters for hours on end. When I played, I went through every nook and cranny I could. However, a portion of its player base appears to be made up of some of the nastiest, elitist, obnoxious, and outright boorish humans to ever gather. Three months of that, and I understood why I was so alone when I played, and why my friends refused to touch the game. Your community has a reputation.

And it sucks, because ESO deserves so much more. Even with all that said, I may kick in another month, just because I miss playing ESO! And the crafting, ahhh the crafting! However, TSW will always be my fave MMO, if only for how welcoming and direct the game and its community have been. There are bad eggs everywhere, but I can honestly say, after years of playing, I've not once seen an 'anal' thread (granted, I only play on RP servers), and that alone is worth all the damn money.

It was on the launcher for about an hour after ESO put it on the login screen, and if you missed the in-game messages (by community members) you're either not in the most used chat channel or you play during Aus prime (I have no idea what the channel traffic is like at that hour).

Good fight TSW.

And good luck next week in your all viking fight... Iceland vs. Norway, who would have thunk it?

You'll get my vote.

CCP vs FC... I know people who hate both companies passionately, and I have a feeling some of the votes may be based on that. There's a lot of people upset about the WoD cancellation. Here's hoping we get some of them!

I personally found the combat a little dull and slow paced when I first started playing as well, but I gave it a chance and made it to end-game. I did not regret it. The mechanics in some of the areas and dungeons are truly great.

Yeah, I have to say that I think I didn't really love the combat at the start, but I was too distracted by the Lovecraftian vibe of Kingsmouth to care. The dungeon bosses, though... Machine Tyrant is my second favorite fight and Hel is my favorite (I just wish it was available year-round). I'm the one in the dreads:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp-9HueFLiU

That fight looks pretty boring to me. Boss doesn't move, has really obvious tells, and a massive attack that you just stand behind a pillar to avoid. Was there any need to interrupt key abilities of the boss? Was there a tank taunting and you guys dpsing while getting healed and avoiding the circles on the floor by walking out of them? (trying to understand what is good about this).

Oh right, in most games the healers stand at the back in dresses, but hey I'm wearing a skirt, surely you can tell I'm healing BY dpsing. The vid is from a DPS perspective, but you can clearly see a tank in the center. Maybe you were watching the video small on low res. The healer (me) is healing the tank. Not sure why you'd think there wasn't one, you can clearly see the healthbars. Healthbars work by tracking how much health you have. When you're taking damage, they go down. When you're getting heals they go back up. You can see them in the video going down and up.

There's only 4 people visible in the fight because the fifth stood in the damage AoE as soon as it started. This fight, like most at this level has binary damage. If you stand in the wrong face half you die, if you stand in the wind you die. That's not entirely true, I found out later that I can heal someone standing in the wrong face, but then I overgeared this content last year. I can nearly solo it this year (and I failed because I had derpy hands - I'll try again). In TSW if you stand in the shit you die. NM content is very hard on people who fail the personal responsibility check. For reference, everyone I ever pugged with in 7 years of WoW would have failed this fight.

So. To explain in simple terms:

  • Boss is a caster. She doesn't need to move to eat your face. Notice how much damage the tank takes at the beginning just running in?
  • Tells so obvious that one of the DPS dies out of the gate. He was new, everyone new dies the first time.
  • An obvious tank, can't see how anyone would miss that...
  • And healthbars moving up and down... with a stacking dot... (oh hey, we killed all the adds in the first round, no wonder the healing was easier, I'd forgotten.)

I guess it's not riding the back of a dragon, using gross tentacles to hold on with while it does barrel rolls... *shrug* Floors aren't for everyone.

No need to be nasty about it, I am just trying to understand what is interesting about it. From your description it seems that I was spot on: a tank was taunting with some others dpsing while getting healed and avoiding circles on the floor by walking out of them. There were no interrupts or any type of skilled plays other than avoiding some very obvious tells.

I can't understand how you can think that is an example of a good/exciting boss fight. Every dungeon in Tera is about a trillion times better than what I see here, as are all of the world bosses and BAMs, but each to their own I guess.

Let me see if I understand why you posted what you did.

Everything in TERA is better than this... let me ask you something, do you have a limit of 8 abilities in TERA? Because if not, that means you have your entire spellbook (or whatever) available at all times. Which means there's no reason not to have a boss throw everything at you. If they don't, that's just lazy bosses who should have forfeited and given you their loot.

Is TERA the one where you can't move and cast? No, I think that was RIFT... or something. Nevermind, if you can move and cast in TERA that's not relevant.

You asked some questions that had obvious answers, and I pointed out how obvious they were... and that was nasty? Ok, suit yourself.

I'm glad you're having fun in TERA. This fight is lots of fun but you're welcome to keep thinking whatever you like about TSW combat. Most people who complain about it never gave it a fair shake. It takes work to figure out what weapons suit your playstyle, it takes work to figure out a deck that works with those weapons. Not everyone puts in the work - most would rather have a class-based system that chooses for you.

I dont think either ESO and TSW will win against LoTRO.

If TSW wins then I can see many people voting for LoTRO just so TSW loses. And the same if ESO wins many people will vote LoTRO just so ESO loses. In the end it will be pointless.

Um, if TSW loses and LotRO wins, is it ok if I vote for the one I've actually played and like somewhat? I just want to be clear before I vote that I'm not casting a HATEVOTE when I vote against ESO because I know nothing about it and DGAF about it in any way.

For a number of reasons, PvP hasn't been a development priority. They have made changes and improvements, and the mechanics are more fun (for me, at least) than they were at launch. However, the suprsrs PvPers have all quit, and many of us who were hoping for more PvP love are still waiting.

The one PvP dev who I felt was on the same page as the PvPers has recently left the company (don't make assumptions, we don't know why at all, could be good or bad). He had promised us matchmaking was coming, and that's mostly what's keeping me out of minigames now. The first iteration of a matchmaking system was so bad that when the population declined, matches couldn't be made and games simply didn't pop at all, except in the top-most bracket. How do you make a matchmaking system that doesn't have a 10 minute override? I don't know, I really don't. Whatever, I had hoped we would get the one feature I needed - I don't care if I'm up against people with BR54 or noobs fresh off the boat (funny only if you remember how you enter Kingsmouth), as long as it's tried to match me (and them) with people in the appropriate bracket first.

Now that Quokka has left the company, I don't hold a lot of hope for PvP. This is a complete shame as there are hundreds of thousands of (viable) builds and everyone can over time get all the abilities and gear configurations to run anything they want. There's a counter to everything and no decision you make when you start the game will affect your PvP to any significant degree (can you tell I'm so OVER class-based games?) except regarding Fusang due to the dimensions being grouped into two battlegroups, rather than one as for the other two maps. Because of the ability system TSW PvP could be one of the deepest PvP experiences in an MMO, but I'm not sure they can make money off it, which means they can't give it the attention it so needs and deserves.

[EDIT] Fusang has had some major changes since launch, and it's well worth a look, even if you play an underdog faction. Probably especially if you play an underdog. Even if the Custodians are super dumb most of the time, it's still fun to watch them nuke your enemies.

I wanted to like this game as just something different and probably the closest thing to a Cthulu MMO I'll ever see but nope just can't. Not enough character appearance customization to start with (yes later on you can get different outfits). The player characters look far too much alike, I've seen far too many characters that look just like me but with different outfits. Yes you can technically make all kinds of different "builds" but how many of them will actually work? The combat seems boring to me, the vast majority of the "builds" they have pre-designed with "outfit" rewards either don't appeal or don't seem to work well (the ones I've tried). I really can't get over the magic assault rifles, and magic shotguns just... no... The endless re-doing of the same quests is really stupid (and boring). This just seems a deeply flawed design from the foundation up. Real pity would have been nice... Oh and the lack of community. Wow, talk about UN-friendly for new players, wow, there's so very little open communication, it's a desert.

There are over 6 million combinations in the character creator, not including clothing options. The player characters look alike because they are all human. Maybe that's not what you're looking for, which is fine. That they are all human seems to throw people who come from other games with pointy-eared things and greenskins. I've managed to create 6 faces that I'm happy with. One is an intentional Kesha Castle-Hughes lookalike (stop laughing, I liked Whale Rider). Now personally, I'd like a little less whitewashing in my human creator, but that doesn't mean that they all look alike.

The build system is complex, not gonna lie about that. I wouldn't have it any other way. Can you create a build that sucks and doesn't work? Sure can. Most of the faction decks are crap - they were intended as examples of how to build a deck with synergy. Unfortunately, most people don't view them that way. I used the Warlock deck for precisely one pull before I decided I was being trolled with it. That doesn't mean that there aren't a TON of builds that do work. I have over 40 saved to my Gear Manager, and that's not including little on-the-fly tweaks I make for one purpose that I don't save. The only reason to get those pre-made example decks is the outfits but they're not for everyone, that's personal taste. Also the different factions have very different flavors, so a different faction may fit better.

You don't ever have to repeat a mission in TSW. Ever. Really really not ever. If you do 75% of the missions in Kingsmouth, you should have enough points to be strong enough for Savage Coast. If you do all of them once, you'll have more than enough. If you're having to repeat missions, you need build help. It might be your deck, it might be your gear. It might also be that you're not moving in combat, which reduces damage taken. There's plenty of resources for help, too. Including the community you so casually dismissed. If you're looking to these forums for community, well... we ain't here. The place you want is the TSW Newcomer's forums, or the Sanctuary channel in game. (I add this not for you as you seem to have made up your mind, but for anyone else who reads this.)

Since you do seem to have made up your mind without exhausting many (or really any) of your available options, I guess wherever you do end up playing, I hope you have fun. Dunno if you've tried AoC, but tons of Howard's writing has the vibe you seem to be looking for (he and Lovecraft were friends) and you might like the low-fantasy + elder gods brooding darkness thing.

Storywise, though...I think TSW might edge it out, I always found the RPG aspect of TSW to be very very good.

Yeah, if I were a serious PvPer, TSW wouldn't be my go-to game at all. It's got gobs of potential with it's completely open build system, but unfortunately it doesn't have the population for mass-scale PvP anymore. Back when it did, those brawls were serious fun.

Same guy going on a social media campaign for his game to win a popularity contest here at MMORPG.com.  Maybe ZOS will put him on the payroll if he isn't already.

I confess it was me. I made all three

Yeah, but have you tweeted about it yet? I must be sad or desperate or willingly participating in the conspiracy to artificially inflate MMORPG's member numbers.

all the hate is just "go team goooo" I vote for what I like and what I have blown alota cash on because its worth it to me. so to all the pissy haters -just shut up and play. ;)

Trashtalk is trashtalk, but some of this isn't just ignorance (no, LotRO isn't a WoW clone, they were in development at the same time - but one launches before the other so the other is the 'clone' - w/e). Some of it is lies, slander, mendacity, and poppycock. In other words, pure rot.

"Oh noes, two of the games have cash shops! That's pure evil! The other two have mandatory subscriptions, so they're good games." << That's a load of hooey right there. Also ESO fans, hate to break it to you, but when your game is F2P in 6 months, they'll have to make money somehow. Guess what that means? Microtransactions. Unless they put the game into maintenance mode; maybe that would be acceptable to the "NO CASHSHOPS" crowd.

And what sells well? P2W. And Lockbox keys, ofc. TSW's cash shop is not P2W (you can sure buy a lot of stuff, even gear, but if you think blues are winning over purps... nope, I got nothing) and TSW's Game Director has absolutely promised no lockboxes: "And I promise, no lockboxes" - JB, GD.

I can just laugh at you.

Each ESO update is getting bigger and bigger, update 6 will be as big as an expansion so yeah, go on troll as much as you want.

Also hate to tell you, but many haters predicted ESO to go F2P in less than 6 months, now we are getting close to 9 months and the game is just not slowing down. 2015 will be huge for ESO. We already have 1mil+ subs, and the console didn't even launch yet. I'd like to note reviews from launch are turning into very positive, again fail troll.

I'm not hating, that's all in your head. I know nothing about any reviews from launch, and wasn't talking about the game. I'm talking about what happens when they launch for console. Maybe you think console players will pay a mandatory sub + whatever the console makers charge for licensing. I have my doubts. F2P is what happens when a game drops it's 6-month sub option. That's one less way for people to pay you, and zero reason for it, unless you're predicting those 6-month subs will want their money back. Given industry standard churn, dropping a long-term sub option for no reason is saying you don't like money, unless you're planning to drop the sub altogether.

If mmorpg.com had a recruiting drive, it couldn't possibly have done better than having TSW vs. GW2... which, coincidentally (wink), have been the #1 and #2 top voted MMOs here for many months.

Welcome ya'll!

Not anymore... I'd never heard of Smite until it nabbed the top spot.

Smite is a game which apparently involves settling theological disputes by deathmatching Gods.

This sounds HILARIOUS. Color me intrigued.

I don't see the need to hate on each others games really. The fact that TSW and GW2 are so close, to me just means that they both are great games with passionate fanbases. ;)

I wasn't hating on GW2. I figured someone might come back and say "well yeah, but we got pink unicorn mounts for christmas, nyaaah" or something. I don't know much about GW2, but I think they don't have killer clowns, and I'll always take killer clowns over pink unicorns. But if they had killer clowns, I might have to go check them out, yannow?

What about killer unicorns with pink clown wigs and floppy shoes?

Rainbow wigs are traditional. I'm not sure I'd go for pink wigs.
