Not sure how long this offer is going to last, but I think this is a really really good deal. Even for people who hate subs, getting to play this game for 30 days for only $9.99 is a steal. The content is awesome.

I got lifetime for TSW but for those on the fence, I think it won't get any better than this.

Well. t really depends on the mechanics to be used in said game :  game using pre-cu mechanics would have a better chance at success in my opinion, while it would be extremely hard for a game with post-cu mechanics to succeed, especially without the SW IP.

In any case, I'd be all over a game like that, if only for the superb crafting system. Have heard people saying The Repopulation is using a lot of elements from the original SWG, so I can only hope the final product is similar.

Still sad SWG is gone. It was my primary reason to keep my SOE Station Access.

Well, I'm not a big fan of fps  games, but I had a blast playing PS2 today.

Didn't have any problems downloading the game, and I never experienced lag or disconnectrions.

Was quite surprised about this because all the NA servers were high or full.

Can't say I would make this game my main MMO, but I believe SOE did a great job with this game, and I will be PvPing a lot on this game in the next few months for sure.

My PvE is already covered with other titles so this is a great addition to my stable of MMOs.

No need to purchase a game box so go download and decide if it's good enough for you.

11. For subscribers with more than 12 characters due to the server consolidation, will they have to purchase character slots to unlock them once the character slot restrictions are put in place?

That is the current plan, yes. We don’t think it’s fair to everyone else who wasn’t lucky enough to get this accidental side benefit from server merges. However, those additional characters aren’t lost, and players will easily be able to unlock those characters. The timeline for this is TBD.

That is good then, it seems from that we will be able to unlock more than 2 char slots soon

However, it is not good to unlock chars where you have more than 12 due to the server merge when you are subbing. I for one never wanted that in the first place - for all chars to be on one server. I would have been more happy having chars moved to another server and having only 8. I had chars on different servers for a reason, to create 2 legacies, and they wrecked everything when the servers merged, and had to delete some chars to take them out of the Legacy tree. Now they expect people to pay to unlock them, something we did not want, from their poor handling of server merges? They get greedier each day.

This is the reason why I do not want to pay a monthly sub to the game. EA do not deserve it, and it is not worth it. I have to now go recreate chars on another server, because they never gave the option to move chars to a different server. I will do it if I have the time, but I am certainly not wasting any more money on doing. The way they handle the game makes you in the end waste your time, especially when things can be done better, as have been proven countless times in other MMOs.

I have 16 characters on one server and they are all playable.

Yeah for now, but according to that FAQ, st some time TBD 4 will get locked, and you will have to unlock them with CC

There's  nothing really appealing in the marketplace imo if you are a subscriber, and simce subscribers get cc every month, they will be able to buy the additional character slots without having to pay any extra money.

Again, it's only my opinion, but this is really no big deal.

Wait until you log in and notice you have only two quickslot bars available, making the game totally unplayable at 50.

Well, I am pretty sure all the cheapskates and freeloaders will always find a good reason to complain about something and everything.

I have no problems at all paying for entertainment, and I definitely appreciate that with the restrictions in place, at least some of these will stay away.

You mean the "cheap-skates" and "freeloaders" who already paid EA $$$ for a brand new game box, plus all the months of subscriptions, and who would still be paying subscriptions if not for the change to F2P - less than a year into its release? You mean the people who would like for the money they already spent on the game to at least earn them something after a move to F2P that many of them likely didn't even ask for to begin with?

Are those the cheapskates you're talking about?

No, we're talking about people who would like to be shown a bit of gratitude and appreciation as recurring customers of EA's by being given something in return for their continued membership and business.

Yes, I suppose my definition of "cheapskates" and "freeloaders" include people like you.

I purchased WoW with every expansion until Cataclysm, was subbed for 6 years, and since I cancelled  I have no access to any of the content I purchased. except for the trial thing they offer now up to level 20.

Shouldn't they be showing some gratitude after all I paid throughout the years ?

If/when I ever decide to go back to WoW, I am ready to go back with my wallet ready to pay for that kind of entertainment again, not waiting on 7 / 14  day trials like many people do.

Same with SWTOR, I do not expect a game to be free, because games mean business, they are not charities. They're already being generous in making a big chunk of the game totally free, hoping that people will at least spend some money when in game. After all, some money is better than no money at all.

But I assume you had cancelled your account a while ago, with ZERO access to most of the content (you might have been playing a free to 15 account), and now you expect to go back and get eveything for free because you were once a "subscriber"

and they should show some gratitude to people like you.

Maybe in your dream world, things work that way, but in my world, I understand just how hard it is to survive and remain profitable when you own a business, and to me, what SWTOR is offering is fair, especially for the legions of freeloaders who are not going to  spend a dime to begin with. Probably now you're wishing you had waited to play the game totally for free that way, and I think you should have waited, considering your reaction.

Well, in my opinion, these forums are full of cheapskates and freeloaders, so it's not surprising to see the outrage caused by companies who expect people to pay for entertainment.

After all, in the age of pirating movies, books, games, software, music, satellite TV,  etc. you must be crazy if you expect to make a profit by providing entertainment. It's all free or nothing right ?

I've never had any problems paying for my entertainment.

F2P, B2P, P2P or any other business model really don't mean anything if the games are not appealing to me.

Been playing TSW since headstart, got lifetime, and have already spent over $100 at the cash shop, and I have no problem with that as long as the game provides the kind of entertainment that I'm looking forward to.

There are tons of cheaper games out there for sure, but in my opinion, time is the most valuable asset that we have, and at least in my case, I am going to spend my time ( and money) playing something I really enjoy.

I am not opposed to Funcom lowering their prices or anything, though. I just don't have any problems with the current business/pricing model.

I don't know if they make the best MMOs , but I surely enjoy them. I waited a long time for a modern day MMO with an awesome setting and atmosphere, and TSW delivers exactly what I was looking for, along with a superb story, really cool dungeons, and a complex skill system that allows for lots of interesting combinations, among other things.

Not perfect, but there's no perfect game out there. What's in there was more than enough to get a lifetime membership.

Now AoC. I still have a sub and think it's worth every cent. Game still has a bunch of issues, and to many people out there, they're gamebreaking issues. Not to me, and I really appreciate what FC did to create this low fantasy virtual world.

And Anarchy Online. It's hard to believe the game is so old, because I still find the gameplay and the game systems way above the average MMO, and really hope at some point, they manage to make the graphical update a reality. Pretty sure this would inject new life into the game.

Don't play AO that much anymore, but keep my yearly plan going to show my appreciation and support for Funcom, a gaming company that brings many cool and interesting ideas to the MMO genre, and yes, the execution of these ideas may not always be the best, and some people may claim their execution leave a lot to be desired, and/or their  games just plain suck, but I am honestly not bothered by these comments.

I do enjoy playing Funcom games, and in the end, that's all it matters to me.

They are going to offer the full leveling experience 1-50 with access to all the story completely for free, and that is very generous in my opinion.

I honestly see this thread filling up with all the cheapskates and freeloaders complaining that they can't have everything for free and hating on EA for being so evil and greedy.

I've never been a big fan of housing in MMOs ( too lazy to invest time in having a really cool looking virtual house ) but Trion seems to have done a stellar job when it comes to implementing their version of housing in Rift.

Definitely, another feature to look forward to when Storm Legion goes live. Always nice to  have this kind of stuff in MMOs.

Need a trial, Joel.  Need a free trial.

There already is and has been for awhile.  Go to the website sometime.

I stand corrected.  After some digging on the website (and I do mean digging) I find they are offering a 3 day trial.   For someone like me, that works out to about 6-8 hours of gameplay, part of that being eaten up with installation and setup.

Oh yeah.  That should be plenty of time to decide whether to drop 50 bucks on this game.  Really working to draw in those new players, I see.

Just so you know, the trial begins first time you log in, not when you register on the website and begin installation/setup.

Also, I'm pretty sure you still have the option to complete 30 missions and have another 2 days added to the trial for a total of 5 days.

I think that's plenty of time to know if you like the game or not, especially after completing 30 missions for the extra 2 days. If after completing 30 missions you are not hooked with the game, then I think it's safe to assume you should just move on and find a game that suits your gaming tastes.

Dear Funcom, combat isnt the reason why your game failed.  It was your lack of endgame vision.

I said it once (ok about 394 times to be exact) You can not out WoW with WoW style gameplay.  Find your own endgame style and make use of it.  GW2 did and they are enjoying the success.

LOL at GW2 having meaningful endgame. LMAO you're kidding right ?

The only reason imo why  GW2 is enjoying success currently ( who knows what will happen in a few months ) is because its business model (revamped F2P that forces players to spend at least $60 upfront) is very attractive to the huge train of cheapskates and freeloaders.

Other than that, GW2 is an extremely shallow and mediocre game that really has no lasting appeal.

I think TSW is a very very good game, and the reason I got lifetime for it. I am also still subbed to AoC which is still pretty amazing after all these years (looking forward to the new Dragon Spine updates), and I am considering going back to AO and take advantage of the yearly offer.

Funcom's games are not perfect, but then again, who can point out to a perfect game here ?

I really appreciate their commitment to their games, and their desire to try to do things at least a little bit different.

And no, I'm not a fanboy, I realize they could improve many things, but I also realize they offer just the right stuff for my gaming tastes, and I will continue to support them for that.

It's actually not the tab-targetting that feels wrong, atleast not in my opinion. What feels wrong is that you have a rifle on full auto, hitting the mob and it just doesn't die. The same goes for the shotgun. I see why they have done it gameplay wise, but it feels wrong.

By that logic, it feels totally wrong that in every fantasy game I whack mobs with swords, axes, maces, and all sorts of spells and they just don't die instantly.

You realize we're all just playing videogames to have a good time right ?

I think TSW is an amazing game and have no problems at all with the subscription+cash shop. I have lifetime membership for TSW and I am currently subbed to other games as well, and honestly, I think the community in TSW is also the best I have ever seen.

Someone started a thread on the official TSW forums a while ago trying to find out the average age of gamers in TSW and it turned out to be 37 with lots of people responding to the thread well over 40.

That, in my opinion, means the game is enjoyed by an older audience, even if it was not meant to be that way, which also means the game may grow steadily over time, but at a somewhat slow rate.

Personally, I have no problem with this, as the current playerbase seems to be stable and very dedicated, albeit small. Funcom claims the game is profitable right now, and as long as they are committed to adding more content to the game, I think the game will do just fine with its P2P business model, and will continue to attract new players all the time.

To end my post, I will say that even though I wish Funcom gets more people to play the game and increase their profits, I certainly really enjoy the game a lot as is right now, with a small population, and I certainly don't miss the b2p and f2p crowds, especially those in the 15-30 age bracket lol.

Why I wont play TSW:  Because of the epic failure of AoC.   Simple as that.   Funcom will NEVER get another dime from me every again.  There is a very good reason LOTS of people refer to them as FAILCOM.   My entire guild and many others I know outside my guild (mostly PvP players) will never buy a Funcom MMO.  It is simply too risky because previews and what's on the box may or may not be in the final game.

You reap what you sow Failcom.

It's really pitiful to see these kind of posts from people who just can't get rid of all that hatred. And all because a videogame (lol yes, a videogame) failed to meet their expectations.

If I had an Iphone and it didn't really work / hard to use / whatever, it is perfectly reasonable for someone to not buy Apple products from then on.

That doesn't mean you personally have to, just that acknowledge that someone might.

It makes sense to avoid certain brands if you've had problems in the past.

I"ve had lots of problems with NCSoft  in the past (not the games, but rather their customer support and billing) and I certainly tend to avoid their games now.

But that is very different from irrational hate ("you reap what you sow Failcom") , and trying to reinforce that notion by putting words in the mouths of others ( "my entire guild and many others I know").

My initial thought was "what were they looking for" with regards to subs?

Everything they said about the game screamed niche. At least to my thought. Why would a company sink a lot of money into a game that has a very specific audience and expect to pull in large numbers of mmo players?

Maybe a millino signed up to their forums so they thought that meant interest in buying and sales. That might be a reasonable assumption. Personally, I never thought the game would get more than 250k sales. As it stood they had 200k or so?

And then they have to keep these players?

Game companies need to be more realistic. It's ridiculous that these games launch and if they don't hit a magic number they fold.

I remember being told about what it took to open a restaurant. One had to have 3 years worth of operating money because tha'ts the time it would take to start and grow the business. This was years ago so I'm not sure if that still holds true but it seems that companies need to plan better if they truly want to succeed.

The Occult and Conspiracys and Horror in general  has always  had huge fanbase--Zombies and Vampires is always popular.

Not a single clue what you are basing your "screaming niche" from..

Besides, since when isn't battling monsters in a game popular ?

the niche part comes from their posts about the puzzles, the solving clues, the going to outside sources on websites to figure out larger bits of story or clues to other clues.

All of this was presented over the course of development. Finding bits on a website that would be overlooked by most people. This type of game play is not mainstream.

as far as horror and occult having a huge fanbase: are you talking games or are you talking books/movies? Becuase "yeah" 100% agree, there is a huge fanbase out there for horror books/movies.

Now let's talk horror games. The only games that immediately come to mind (and amazing games in my opinion though your mileage may vary) are Clive Barker's Undying, Amnesia, Possibly Vampire Masquerade, 7th guest is an old one... I"m sure there are others but I can' think of them.

So which horror games that you know have a huge following? All the above games had a following and a deservedly devoted following but I don't recall any of those being blockbusters.

Silent Hill and Resident Evil come to my mind. I haven't followed them in many years but they both were huge blockbusters in the 90's early 2000's

1.  PS2

3.  Neverwinter
