To those NOT playing EVE, what ONE change would make you play?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 6/07/07 1:32:17 AM
Hello all, I've played Eve for about 6 months, and can honestly say that many parts of the game really interest me. However, there are some parts that disgust me. 1) Macro-miners. I mean, come on, I'm an industrialist, and I even accept that the PvPer can gank my exhumer. But there are so many macroers that I can't have a chance at making a living mining and manufacturing. Yes, I can see that it gets people into PvP quicker by making ships cheaper, but still, jeez. 2) PvP is manditory. I don't PvP (unless you include economic PvP), and have no interest in PvPing. While in the game, I did manage to kill one n00blet who attacked a corpm8's mining ship just to be cruel, and even podkilled him. Vengeance felt good, but I can't PvP normally for medical reasons IRL. While a PvE game might work to a certain extent, I can see how the economy would quickly get overinflated. 3) Dev cheating. I know there's been a lot of mudslinging back and forth, but I can't bear to play a game that gives the biggest frackin PvP group ships like they were going out of style. Nuff said. 4) Macros. I've seen a lot of macros in this game, and while this does tie in to Macromining, it is also different. I've heard rumors that there is a macro that makes skills auto-learn, and wouldn't be terribly surprised to find it (since most of the game is client side rather than server side). 5) Dev Bias. I was in a Christian Corporation, and we would constantly get people come in to our global channel and say the most disgusting and vile things. When I asked the devs about it, they seemed to point out that "We like smack talk because it encourages PvP." 6) Ego. Eve online is a small company trying to act big, and failing horribly at it. While I realize that some things might be out of their hands, I wish they'd admit to their mistakes and keep on. Also, get another server, for crying out loud. Yes, you like the fact that there's one server that holds everybody in the known cosoms, but please, give us options and less lag rather than paying out the nose for technology to keep this dream alive. 7) The Security Level Joke. A prat can jump to 0.0 and kill a couple of NPCs, and then he's back in the positives (or at least able to go into high-security space). If you can't lose security due to PvP in 0.0, why can you gain it?!? Also, killing somebody with a low security does what? Lowers our security? Please. If they made some effort to police macroing more than they already do, I'd probably come back. Due to them being admitted PvP fanatics and making PvP easier through the use of macromining, I can't see that it will happen anytime soon. Until then, CoH 4 Life. |

Hello all, While I understand your views on getting out of the ship, we have to look at what's involved. It would essentially be a second game, as the raytracing and physics would vary greatly from interstellar combat. The addition of adding bezier patches and bumpmapping would up the system requirements as well. Likewise, thrust and decelleration would be nixed completely. Eve itself has been around for quite a number of years, and they just recently started thinking of making a out-of-ship version of the game. I also don't see how it will be very useful, as player mode offers only so much. While I can understand the eye-candy aspect, it isn't really worth making an entire second game before they even release the first one. This game is already pushing the envelope of the video game industry with their gaseous clouds and atmospheric entry, why go beyond that? Personally, I am hyped about this game. I used to play Eve, but got out of it relatively quickly due to their speech restrictions and encouraging of macro-mining, and this is just endorsed if you're familiar with the current game environment. I hope they make strong restrictions to piracy, but still allowing it for the thinking player. I am kind of concerned about their mining system (as everything is based on user skill, will we have to play a mini-game to mine successfully?). |
