I am playing Star Wars Jedi Academy and Mechwarrior4  with no problems I am using Win7 Ultimate 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a Nvidia 8600 GT card 4gb of ram ....  You should be fine.

Although i cant get Cabal or 9Dragons to work  bu  WoW,  Aion, Champions Online, CoX, DDO, LOTR all work. There is very little reason to only have Win XP. Win 7 is much more practical. If you just want XP as a back up OS then dual boot Win 7 and XP.

Most players won't realize the problems with this game until they get to the end game since it is heavily pvp based.  It has been proven time and time again that a two faction pvp system just does not work.  Eventually one side starts winning constantly and then the other side just gives up.  This was even evident in Beta somewhat.  The crafting system is nothing more than a basic one.  So what is going to occupy players at the end game?

Just watch this game follow the same course as War has.  It is a lot harder to satisfy the masses on this side of the pond than on their side.

this is bullsh*t, WAR had specific race/class combinations which was the downfall for the entire pvp system, cuz some classes were more overpowered then others ( which is normal ) but u couldnt pick them on the other side, hence the inbalance on sides

in AION this is no problem, cuz all classes can be picked on either side. end of discussion

If only it were that simple. One side will outnumber the other. Even with totally balanced classes/races, the side with numbers will win more often. And when one side wins more often, the otherside tends to go elsewhere. And when one side tends to go elsewhere, the other side tends to win more often. And when that side wins more often, the otherside tends to go elsewhere...

Rinse, repeat until server merge.

   Are you sure about that?

No need, he knows.

Awesome vid , just plain awesome.....    Obama + Aion = Pwnage .....lmao

In my experience MOST OB clients patch to the Retail with an update before going live. If Aion follows suit then no re-install should be needed. You will still need to buy the game and get an active account if you haven't already pre-ordered. Not sure if they will give a grace period for players like CO did we will have to wait and see.

For anyone who wants to give it a test you should think about getting the China Free Trial or China Open Beta you can search google for it. Or go to

http://sayasun502.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!DF5D8DC071D53FEC!166.entry

This is 1 of many sites that have links to the exact same info if the link is dead search for the China open beta or free trial links on google.

Be warned this is NOT the exact same version We are getting in the NA/EU launch but it will give you a feel for the game. And yes you will have to download all parts of the game from SDO into the same folder then run them and you will have to get the english patch. Its not easy but it is a free look at the game if you don't have the money or they are out in your area.

-BTW this is a totally different version of the game. if you have the NA/EU Beta on your desktop you still need to download the china version and as the 2 are mutually exclusive (yes you will have 2 Aion launchers on your desktop).

-Edit: I don't know that this still works it has been 2 months since i have tried it. I had no problems with it that may change at anytime. For those wanting to do this good luck.

SUBSCRIPTION DEALS

Limited
Champions Subscription Deals!
August 5, 2009

I have receive the same e-mail but i don't understand you point with the limited in yellow. First of all, limited doesn't means it is limited in amount, it can be limited in time (which they meant. Second of all, when you received that e-mail, you had to clic on the link and it brought you to the page site offer where it said, limited time and not amount.

So exactly what happen at Cryptic, because what they said was not really an explanation, we all understood they ran out of subs. How many of these they had to sell, because if you realize one day you have a 1000 left, I see it as bad management. But it depends, if you sell 1000 a day for 3 weeks, there is something wrong in their offices if they tell us when they are down to 1000. But if they had 2000 to sell and see that 1 week before launch they still have 1000, they figure, we will never sell a 1000 in 1 week, we sold that amount in 3 weeks. They would look bad if they reopen it after saying it was limited. I can not wait to see the offer comes back after launch at 299$, I will sure dig up those post they made about limited supplies.

IMO limited means limited it can be time or amount (I think in this case it was both Time and Amount ). I think they thought the lifetime subs idea wouldn't fly but threw it out there. It seems to have worked way better than they expected so they had to end it early.

I think it was a major screw up on their part as i stated in my earlier post. But only time will tell. They really dropped the ball on the customer relations side of things. That said they should have explained in greater detail what Limited Subscription Deals meant. Even though to me it just simply meant get it asap or it will be gone... whatever the reason ( time or amount ). They didn't as far as I know make any guarantees as to how long they would offer but they didn't say first come first served although it was implied. It seems they implied the date as before launch but they didn't say how long before, early start or end of open beta, open beta event.

If you can find any more collaborating or contradictory  info i will be happy to add this to any future posts.

Currently the defensive Powers of the month is Regen and Invul.  But what other powers added to those would you all suggest to absorb a ton of damage?

When i say a ton i mean a TON. I want to have so much defense you can drop a Mega-Destroid on my head from space have it bounce off and then my character would look up put his hand out and wonder if that was rain....

Yeah ok, not that much but you get the idea. I have gone the all brick route and it seems to be lacking as my ranged damage type with regen and the energy shield was able to take more damage and dish out more (Power Armor if you were wondering).

I would also like to know what Damage abilities would you recomend for the same melee based tank type character. I really like Shockwave for aoe, range, taunt and damage it does. i have also heard about thundering leap.  Any more in melee sword / claw / martial arts  like that i should think about adding?

Anyone have any melee energy builder they think is more effective or damage producing or is the 1 in brick fine? Any input would be most helpful.

But i must really emphasize i want above all else great defense (I want to do a lot of group instances in my new guild when ever i get in active one.. ). I also want a number of aoe or cone or multi-target attacks anything to keep aggro.

      - Again any ideas would be appreciated.

I have a friend who encourages all five of his children to spend as much time on computers as possible, to understand and take advantage of them in every way. Poor parenting or overdue progressive parenting?

As long as your friend remembers to teach his children good values and lets them out to play and make friends in RL once in a while, I would think he is doing a great job.

And you did say encourage, so I wont assume he forces them, to the detriment of other interests the children may have.

The biggest problem with children using computers (at least when I was growing up) is when the parents are too intimidated to take an interest themselves. And that leaves the kids to learn to fend for themselves in RL as well as Online.

Also on the point of addiction. Well I should mention that if I have access to a computer I will most like use it more than once per day. But when Im on vacation with no immediate access I dont really mind and wont think about it unless I happen to see one.

Now Cigarettes.... Those I will think about almost constantly even if im 10 miles from the nearest tobacco shop.

And Ive been using computers way longer than Ive been smoking. So am I addicted  to computers?.. Doesnt feel like it. Its just an easy way to alleviate boredom. Though of course if I didnt have computers I would probably have more time to find something else to do. But speaking from experience, thats usually reading books. So am I addicted to books? Doesnt feel like it either.

Readies his mad psychiatrist voice ...   "Yezz, Yezz you too haz Zee addictioon and for only $5,000 i can send you to Zee computer addiction clinic, then for only $10,000 i can send you to Zee smoking addiction clinic , and for a tiny fee of $8,000 i can send you to Zee boook addiction clinic, once done. You will then go's to Zee boredom addictioon clinic it is only $15,000 and I can promise you fantastic results.  On Zee uther hand if you are not satisfied i can recommend a clinic to treat your dissatisfaction addiction ($6,000 fee). Of course if these treatments don't work i can compleeetly understand Zee angar you will feel and I can recommend at 30 day stay at our angar and rage addictioon and treetment clinic.  For a discounted price of only $15,000..."

Accent fades, " Will that be cash, check, or charge?"

Accent returns , " No Zorry we don't take Zee check...  how does that make you feel ? Unhappy , Zad ,Disgusted no worries we have Zee clinic for that too.."

    - LOL sorry this seems like it is complete and total BS. It seems like a money grab but who knows it may make a ton of cash and get lots of spin-offs....

Hmmm... maybe a fresh air addiction clinic , or a breathing addiction clinic ,or  sweating addiction or an outdoor addiction clinic , or a sitting down / standing up addiction clinic next.

This is nothing more than spitting a mouth full of water on a 2 alarm fire.  They are attempting to treat a minor symptom of a major problem and make a lot of money off that treatment.

-BTW yeah i know my mad Dr. needs a lot of work but you can see where i was going.  If not we have a clinic for you too...

See yellow highlighted word above....

That said, this was a big mistake on their part for not keeping their customers up to date. They really should have put a counter up on their ads and on the home page and order page as well.  I also agree if they stated the offer ends on Sept 1. then it should have ended on that date or they should have given 24-48 hours notice that they were reaching their cap and would be ending that offer early. They also could and should have sent out e-mails letting potential buyers know what was going on. All in all very poor communication with their potential customers and current ones. They get an F- on this one.

The following may or may not pertain to the above poster ....Viewer Discretion is Advised....

I also checked my emails a didn't see a single 1 that said Sept 1. was the cut off date. I think it was more an assumption. I may be incorrect it does happen. If i am I would love for someone to provide me a link  from cryptic.

To those who really wanted the lifetime either you guys are:

1. Really UN-LUCKY (I mean Final Destination unlucky ... watch out for that car engine ouch  ....).

2. Some seriously 1st class Procrastinators  (been going on since at least Aug 5.)

3. Have real life issues that trump a game which prevented an earlier sub order  ( then why complain online ).

   -  I it is a shame that you missed it ... ( no i didn't buy either Lifetime or 6 month as number 3 was my personal issue).

Great Review...  That said I have a few hints on templar. 1 at least ear;y on slot green gear with Shield defense and +hp stones will make things go a lot easier. 2. When tanking figure out your attack order this can and will change depending on the mob you are fighting. Weaken > then 1st combo starter, then shield immunity , then all your other attacks , then block buff stance till your shield immunity is almost back up then start over.  This sometimes changes to combo starter then shield immunity,  then weaken on tougher mobs or mobs that cast high damage initial attacks. At higher lvls it will change again to your ranged attack first then one of those or a variation on those combinations. Don't forget to use that block stance after your shield immunity drops you can use shield stun to further damage and slow your target (those proc of blocks). Also don't forget to move your feet you get small buffs for block parry etc.. by moving vs. staying still. Also the active shield stun should be used only when you have to stop a mob from casting a really nasty attack or to finish off a mob if all your attacks are on cooldown.

This is only what i have found out so far about the class (lvl 17 templar and loving it (but lvl 21 gladiator  :D). I am sure many with more class experience can give you better / more advice. But so far templar is fun and i haven't reallly run into cost issues i use the spell you get to heal (it uses lesser odellia or something) never use bandages they do cost a lot and the badages heal for less than the spell.

One last thing don't forget to use your taunt to pull mobs till you get your ranged attack especially when soloing. Running in and aggro'ing a bunch of mobs WILL get you killed and your team wiped (unless its full of gladiators and a good healer...).

     - thats my 2 cents.....be glad i don't have a nickel

It's very possible.  Even I am in 1.2 Chinese version now and I enjoy the game a lot, but there is a posiblity here.  After Honymoon period is over, peopel will start complaining.  Look EVE online as crapy as it is, there are still people playing, even WAR still have a lot of followers.  1.3.1 seems will trun the game around, so you never know.

ROFL - I hope your as sarcastic as I was in my post.

EVE is a fantastic game if you take the time to learn how to play it. Its learning curve is very steep though...

When I am crafting in Aion, I play EVE in the back ground.

EVE is very easy,  it did not take me long to learn it.  Don't glorify the game.

Please tec. Eve is one of the hardest mmo's to learn. Again its not hard to learn being a carebear in high sec mining like a mindless drone. Everyone should listen to someone who plays a game in the background. Stay in high sec and off forums.

LOL, this graph is +1 but, i see your graph and raise you this graph +2 pts.     http://mmodata.net/     click the top 10 link.

If you go with Gamestop you might think about digital download. In theory that should allow you to get the game (in advance) and the key. You will also avoid any shortage issues that any 1 B&M store may have (no driving around looking if 1 store short orders). You wont have a physical copy but that doesnt matter much IMO since the game launcher and patcher should be available from your cryptic account page.

That said it is Gamestop they are known for issues with customer service and some accuse them of  console bias and lack luster pc gamer support. I have not personally experienced anything other than a general lack of knowledge about MMOs and some pc games by the people working in the 1 store nearest to my location.

I tend to agree with the OP. If i say lvl50 inv Brute LFF it takes less than 2 min to get a team (I hate Farms BTW). But then if I say lvl 50 Inv Brute LFT (No Farms PLZ). It may take 1-2 hours to get a team.... The problem IMO is that the players screwed up the intent of I 14. Then again maybe the devs screwed up how it was implemented idk but it needs to be fixed. The devs seemed to fight long against farming (The tank taunt nerf, the blaster nuke nerf, the rikti comm nerf  ...ED etc..). But then they did an about face and maybe not intentionally but they effectively allowed for the BIGGEST farming boon in the history of CoX. Its mind boggling! I will be back when they fix it if CO doesnt have me by then.

Here is a bit of light reading for those still confused about what will be in the MT system on CO its also posted on this site as well just look it up.

http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/71536

Excerpt1  -Bill Roper : For us micro-transactions definitely are not the thrust of the business. I’ve seen a lot of people where… everybody in their head when they hear a term they don’t like automatically overlays the absolute worst case scenario on top of it, right? So I think that was something that we really tried to get across to people - and will continue to do so - that the game is not “based” on micro-transactions.

The idea is wanting to be able to have things there that players can get if they want to, but they don’t negatively impact the balance of the game. It’s not like we’re expecting players to go and purchase things through micro-transactions that then give them some huge leg up. All those things I think people get worried about, but really the focus is on having things that are fun, cosmetic or are things that are more account-wide and maintenance based.

And for those worried that you have to pay for all the nice stuff.

Excerpt 2  Bill Roper : The thing is there will be a lot of things we’ll never micro-transact. And one of the things we put out there – less because it’s planned, and more because it’s making sure people understood it – was the fact that if we were to ever put anything out that did have a game effect, there would be a way to earn it. I think that’s really important.

If there was some item that had an effect in-game that would give you - I’m going to make something up, so this is not an item in-game or anything – so something that gave you maybe an increased energy regeneration rate or something along those lines, there would be a way for you to get that in the game. I think that the biggest thing though, with the items that people are going to get though micro-transactions there will be some things where maybe that will be the only way you can get them yet none of them are things where you might say, “man, I can’t believe I didn’t get that” whereas there’s tons and tons and tons and tons more things that you can only get by playing the game.

Conclusion - As of right now . i dont see any justification for any fears about the MT  in CO. That may change, if it does I and others who dislike those changes will ultimately vote with our wallets. I am sure Cryptic and Atari are aware of that.

Being worried about what could happen posssibly at some point in the game will rob you of having a good time now. At least thats how I see it.

Edit- Deleted that post from my reply that would be free publicity to repost it .

No game is going to do everything exactly the way every person wants. If it is game breaking to you just move on, just remember there are going to be  hundreds of thousands or in Aions case millions who will like it. If anyone can name one game that everyone loves without a single dissenting voice....  I will call you on it (BS). As for 1 hit wonder over 3.5 mill subs + the NA/EU release will dispute that. Even if they only get 200k or 300k US subs the game will still be a major success on a global scale. You can verify this on http://www.mmodata.net/ check the top 10 subs or check one of the half dozen or so threads on this site arguing sub numbers either 1.5-2 mill or 3.5+ mill.

If it doesn't appeal to you personally it means that the game ..... Doesn't appeal to YOU.. nothing more nothing less.

I have played CoB-Aion and CB NA Aion it is a really good game to me i had a lot of fun going from 1-10 and 1-20. I have a few alts already my only worry was the if the PVP was going to be forced. As someone has stated you can get to max lvl with little or no pvp I am a bit relieved as i like to pvp when and only when i feel like it. For others that would be a game breaker they want world pvp from lvl 1 to me that would be a game breaker. Some seem to want lots of races others want lots of customizable character content. Still others want multiple starting zones , some hate the wings and flight some love it some think the flight is too short others think its just fine , some hate that you cant fly everywhere some think its appropriate. As I stated before NO game is going to do everything just right for everyone. accept or reject Aion for what it is and what it offers or doesn't then enjoy it or move on to something else.

That said I may or may not buy Aion at release as I am a long time CoX fan and will be buying CO. Bottom line if its fun.... play it after all that is why we play MMO's to have fun (whatever your type of fun may be).

If i get the Amazon version, will it just overlap over my existing key, and give me addition items? Will i have to create another account to use the Collectors version or just stick with what i have and dont worry about it.

Not sure how it works on Aion but on CoH /CoV   the collectors editions i bought show up as the highest priority its basically an account upgrade so yes it should upgrade your account to Collectors Edition and you should get all the perks at that time.

Hats off to the 02'ers that kind of loyalty is rare especially putting up with the egomaniacal , e-peen measuring, testosterone filled, young ,ill-mannered new MMO'ers that seem to have taken over this site as of late.

Back to the OP not a good idea IMO it would be better off as a SP, MP console game. As an mmo, i think it would have a very short life past open beta.

CPU: Athlon 64 3500 2.2ghz single core :(

RAM: 3 gigs DDR2

GPU: nVidia 8800 GTS (640mb version)

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You are more than fine i am using a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a 2ghz dual core 4GB ddr2 and a 8600gt 128MB card 55-70fps on medium - high graphics with the Fixed FPS option checked and optimize char detail. Without Fixed FPS checked i get as low as 37fps and as high as 103 fps using Chinese Aion for reference as i missed out on the keys here.   Again i don't think you have anything to worry about just remember to check/update your vid drivers and always run disk cleaner and defrag on a regular basis along with your active AV and Anti-spy stuff.
