They both came out at the same time, they're both AAA, they both cost a mint, they both features VO stories...

For me, Skyrim is the better game by such a landslide, that it isn't even close. TOR could cook me breakfast, lunch and dinner, clean my house and go to work for me, on top of spitting money at me every few seconds, and Skyrim would still be a better game.

Mortal online just like Ultima online/eve online.
General Discussion « Mortal Online 2/09/12 10:27:04 AM
I wish the OP's words were true for me. I've tried MO several times now and it never engages or immerses me, it always has horrible performance issues as well. There are so many better options out there in my opinion. Xsyon, Wurm, UO, Eve and even Darkfall. My hopes were high for MO but it simply falls short in almost every way, every time i try to get into it.

Now that you've played it, do you still think 100% voice is a great idea?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/07/12 3:42:45 PM
For me, some things are far better left... the way they were. I can't stand voices in mmorpg's and no mmo has come along to give me a reason to change my opinion. Give me an incredibly detailed, open world full of ambience (dynamic weather, dark nights, ambient sound, etc... ), and my imagination will fill in the voices better than any actor ever could. There's a reason why the most immersive experiences for me in these games is still back with the old MUDs and first 6 or 7 mmorpgs pre 2001 (M59, UO, EQ1, AC1, AO, DAoC, etc...) For single player games, I am all for 100% voiced. For mmorpg's though, no thanks. Edit - I don't mind, and often enjoy, the passing comment from an NPC in audible voice, where everyone around can hear it... it's specificaly the voiced quest dialouge that I am referring to when I say I hate it.

My bad experience seems to have been due to a single person on his first or second day of the game, and as bad as it was, he seems to be gone now. I've carried on and found the rest of the community to be delightful. That one apple though... it was really bad. I've been playing mmorpgs since M59 in 1996 and MUDs for a while before that, and never have I run into a person quite like this guy. He even searched my character name, discovered an old forum account elsewhere and used my email associated with that to attack me outside of the game!
Anyway... bygones :) I will continue to check out Wurm.

Please form your own opinion by trying this game
Reviews & Impressions « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/03/12 2:18:44 PM
I've played a ton of mmorpgs since M59 onward, including TOR, and it ranks as one of my all time worse MMO experiences ever. I could not imagine another game that is more polar opposite to the things that I find cunducive to a great mmorpg experience. With that said, by all means, I also recoomend trying it and forming your own opinion... as I truly don't expect anybody to share mine. To each their own, and all that :)

I also started fresh in Wurm a few days ago (had played it a couple of times before for short periods and love the concept) and although I did have some decent experiences, I was also very put off by the community this time around and found it not worth the stress/drama. I played Xsyon in beta and LOVED it, but it crashed and burned with a patch just before launch which made it unplayable for a good long time, and so I just fired that back up and am loving my time in that game again. I will still dabble in Wurm too though, at least a little bit longer, as I do really love the concept... I wish it had more animations but I can live with that (I still love and play text MUDs so i really cant hold Wurms animations against it :) ) as long as the community is decent. In sandbox games like Wurm and Xsyon and AtiTD, etc... community is 90% of the equation for me.

Industrial Strength are good people. I recently came back to the game after a long break and these guys and gals have been very welcoming, very patient and have a super cool place to experience the game and help out with. Good people!

Xsyon Earth 2012: Prelude: Architecture Contest Announced
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/30/12 11:37:59 AM
I was running around the game last night for the first time in some months. There's some amazing architecture out there! Good luck to everyone, this would be a hard decision for a judge!

most realistic (light wise)night cycle in mmo?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/29/12 11:36:27 PM
well done day/night cycles are very important to me, along with weather and ambient sound effects.
Old EQ, AC1, Wurm, Xsyon, MO, etc... did a great job on proper darkness and a cartain night time creep factor.

seems like a lose/lose situation for everyone, sad to see it happening like this.

I just popped back into the game after 6 months away and had an incredible first night back. I started a new account and went at it from scratch, and really had some awesome moments last night.

I've always enjoyed Wurm and at times it's been a downright blast. There are some things that annoy me and I hope they get atention, but for the most part it's a great sandbox from some great folks. I'm very thankful that this game exists, it's one of a kind!

Do you really want gameplay over graphics?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/25/12 11:00:28 AM
Graphics mean nothing to me. Some of my favorite online gaming experiences remain with the MUDs of yesteryear, and yes I still play them today. Some of my favorite graphical mmorpgs are still M59, UO, EQ1, AC1, DaoC, etc... all pretty graphically inferior by todays standards, and yet still my favorite to play, even today. If a great mmorpg happens to have great graphics, then I say awesome! But that is so rare that I am very thankful that it really doesn't matter to me. I do try almost every mmorpg that comes out though, so if anyone ever manages to merge the two, I'll be there :)

maybe there's some kind of expiration timer on the clue? If it simply points one in the right direction without naming the perp, then a timer would be sufficient, no? |
