I read a thread on this site talking about the welcome back campaign so I decided to giving it a try.  (even though I practically swore a blood oath I wouldn't try FFXIV until 2.0, lol)  I have to say I was surprised at how far it's come.  I'd say it's almost where it should have been at release. 

I'm still pissed that there's no mailbox or auction house.  Yes, they're still trying to push the market wards but it's stupid imo.  As immersive as the game setting is it doesn't seem likely that 100's of people would stand in a basement 24/7 waiting to sell me things.  I wish they'd just implement a damned AH.  key word: optimize

Aside from that, a lot of my gripes have been addressed.  They smoothed out leves, added a lot more quests, balanced xp gain and added chains ala FFXI.  I like the repair guys/venders at many camps.  The new armors look friggen amazing (I saw a lalafel chick in full monk armor and sat and stared at her on my screen for like 5 mins)  Now the avatars are being implemented one at a time, coughSMNcoughs. 

I dunno, for the first time in FFXIV I have that feeling I had waayyyyy back when I first started playing FFXI.  I spend my time keeping to myself and running around to take it all in.  I group here and there and the community has been pretty cool thus far.   I hope I get my character set up in a good way for the rerelease with 2.0.  I agree this game isn't for everyone but if you liked FFXI I'd sub for a month and check it out.

I've been shot with so many mmo "bullets" that I think I'm finally learning my lesson.  (Vanguard, AoC, WAR, FFXIV, SWTOR)

It feels nice to haved dodged one for once.

HELL NO.  I know F2P is the new rage for mmo's but imo it's horrible.  Take LotRO for instance (again, this is my opinion) used to be a respectable title but now it's a money sponge.  Everything you do a window for the cash shop pops up. 

Also I'd like to add, I'd pay 20.00+ a month for an immersive, solid mmo title with some sort of age verified server(s).

Honestly guys, ffxiv is very enjoyable now.  They just released the new garuda fight which is awesome, new recipes, and hamlet defense.  i started playing again in january, and i have not put it down since. I also bought the collectors edition, and i stop playing it a week after launch.  The game is very good and only getting better now.  The welcome back event is the perfect opportunity to see it for yourselves.  If it had been this way at launch, it would have been a great launch.

Did they add mailboxes or an auction house yet?  (not being a smartass here)  I've been down the road of "It's so much better than when i launched and it's only getting better!" more times than I care to admit.  I truly wanted to love this game and it truly broke my heart.

Personally, I think this is "too little, too late" for vanguard.  They might get a little burst of a few tourists who will stay for 2-3 weeks.  This will more than likely happen for 3-6 months and then it's back to being on life support.  At this point they're just looking to sponge what little money they can from their investment imo.

That's what a lot of us were hoping for and it broke my heart.

I might come back to FFXIV after the 2.0 rerelease.  Right now it's unintuitive and at times feels like a game made by a team that's never played an MMO imo.  You'd think they would have understood what made FFXI so great for so long and built on that but they didn't.

My sentiments exactly.  This has been a reoccuring vanguard topic for like 4-5 years.  I've fallen for it a couple of times but never again, sorry.

I'm right there with ya dude.  I've usually been a big time alt guy with a whole stable of characters for crafting and such.  With the game features set up they way they are (storytelling, companions, starship, etc) I think I'll take the same route you are. 

SWTOR certainly has an uphill climb to win the affection of the mmo community imo. It has to endure the comparisons to WoW and SWG. It has to endure the criticism of fans who are seemingly NEVER happy. (ie: you give them a doughnut and the first thing they say is "look at the size of the hole in that doughnut")

I'm gonna play it, if it gets boring then I'll quit and go play something else. Enough said.

You know, if they did the same old thing with stats and birthsigns at release there would be a post complaining about that.  Why can't people be happy when devs try to take things in new directions?

Why don't some of these people just come out and say MMORPG should have waited to review the game so they can read the review they want to read?  I paid for the collector's edition like a dummy almost a year ago and they're JUST now ironing out major flaws?  A virtually unknown company like Trion made a game with more polish, content and innovation than a giant company like SE could after 6 years+ of development in FFXIV. 

Hold your breath all you want for this 1.18 patch that some have you have hyped up to be this miracle "god patch"  but this game is still several patches away from truly getting on its feet.
