Why did they make this game ?

XFire - As MMO population estimation tool
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/05/13 5:50:51 PM
In more news regarding how fail using xfire data is in estimating population, a month or so ago a team using primarily xfire data made a bold and later proven falst statement that Dota2 had a higher population thatn League of Legends. They were so far off that even League of Legends lowest activity server was still ahead of the peak population record that dota holds.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/04/11/dota-2-most-played-report-challenged-by-riot-we-investigate/
In the article there is a link in the first paragraph which leads to this interesting tidbit "Update: Riot have questioned DFC’s findings, telling Games Industry that League of Legends sees “over 500,000 peak concurrent players every day on just the EU West shard.” Note that Dota 2′s highest ever concurrent player count, according to SteamGraph, is 325,897 users worldwide." So yeah, screw xfire. Its totally bogus and cannot follow a trend. |

Why do you keep it in the closet? Is it smaller than the one you currently use? Seems like a waste too me. But yes, 3D, as great as it is, and even though a ton of games runs well with it, isn't really needed. I find myself almost always playing 2D anyway.

I'm surprised how many games games are actually 3d vision ready, and how many are almost that good but not officially supported. Its amazing! I recently tried L.A. Noire, it was pretty cool. A buddy tried WoW with it, I didn't know before hand but its also fully supported. Not my cup of tea though. Resident Evil 5 was impressive. I think the 3D made duke forever more enjoyable. Metro 2033 was great! Arkham city was even better 3d wise IMO. Civ 5 is pretty cool, but feels kind of pointless. I've also played a bunch on non 3d ready games and had a great time with it too. While I don't use it often, its pretty cool how fast the technology is moving. Developers have been saying its quite easy to implement and is only going to get easier too. Even though there is a naysayer who repeats himself constantly on this topic, 3D is moving forward and it will likely stay that way. Oh, and I have a 3DS, and its crap 3D compared to Nvidias. So anyone that can only reference that are missing out if 3D is something they would like to explore. |

There are a lot more you haven't heard about then! There are quite a few out already, only 4 of them get any real publicity. Heck, gameloft even has a Moba for your phone now too based off of order and chaos! lol The game may turn out to be fun, but I'd have to agree that it won't be a success. |

They are TRYING to keep people, they dont want the whole 2-3 month crowd, they don't want to HAVE to shutdown. This is what's happening because they are ridiculous and keep doing the same thing over and over, copying one another. |

Richard Garriott's Shroud of the Avatar
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/08/13 11:55:30 AM
Seems to me this post is not MMO related as the game is not an MMO. Therefore its probably in the wrong place as we are currently in the MMO forum... Screw Richard Garriott, sure he made my fav game of all time, but hasn't been able to produce squat that I've enjoyed since. And this game sounds like more of the same of what we already have. Whoopee. |

I've played even more than you and feel the same way. Sadly MMO's are no longer what they used to be. They are just quick turn over games now. I too grow bored of them quickly. Last one I really got into was TSW, but even then, it had an end game and what I would call no PvP (if thats what you call PvP, shame on you!). Anyways, I wouldn't keep your hopes up for too many of the games you listed either. In partiuclar ArchAge and Black Desert. Also, Star Citizen isn't even an MMO at all. Haven't looked into Blade & Soul as I am sure it will be your typical hollow import game. But if experience has taught me anything, games that are hyped on these very forums usually turn out to be bland and run of the mill. Remember all the Age of Wushu hype going around? Well I tried it and its not even remotely what people hyped it up to be. Basically, I'm saying find some different games to play until a developer grows some balls (or a large coin purse to ignore producers lol). I don't see a single game changer on the horizon. |

EA is really outdoing themselves!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/05/13 11:33:08 AM
This is what the F2P players get. They were warned that it would not turn out how they dreamed it would. Did you guys really think that everything would be all rosey? Again, you guys were warned, and it is only going to get worse from here on out too. Do NOT underestimate greed. And while I am here, stop pre-ordering shit.

Nostalgia and how you will neve be as happy as you were again
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/03/13 1:59:42 PM
Meh I disagree. UO was great, went to crap, then I got just as excited about DCUO then it went to crap. It happened to me 3x in a row (SWG too) before everything became bland and boring. While nostalgia may be a reason some aren't finding games they enjoy, I feel the bigger issue is lack of innovation, or even just games that are different. And just because a game is different from WoW, does not make it a good alternative. I don't even need something new personally, in fact I wan't something with older elements to it. Kind of like how mustangs stopped looking like ford escorts and started to incorporate the new with the old.

Should MMOs remove the death penalty?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/12/13 9:26:19 PM
What a ridiculous question. Why do MMOs all have to be the same? Seriously, utterly stupid question. I have no idea why someone feels that all MMOs should remove or add such and such feature and all be the same.

I believe Dust 514 is being called an FPS/MMO hybrid for the sole reason that it has interaction with an MMO. Dust itself is actually only a 48 player game. From what I have read though, CCP does have plans to eventually add some true MMO features, but when? Seems a bit weird to call it an MMO before its an MMO.

XFire - As MMO population estimation tool
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/05/13 8:42:32 PM
Is there a way to get this removed as a sticky? It's a dead topic. It's just taking up space on the first page! I figure if someone can ask for it to be stickied, we can ask for it to be un-stickied!

Originally posted by Starpower You do realize that this is how things come to fruition don't you? Oh wait... you don't! Well lets see, if people like you had their way then we'd still be using paintings as pictures, if the generation after that was like you, then we'd still be stuck with black and white photos as people were actually against colour at first, or how about people who complained about cars and said the same thing? No thanks, I don't want to be stuck with paintings and riding horses everyday, I'd rather keep moving forward. So to counterpoint: 1. The hardware will be universally plug and play for windows, and whether this iteration, or a future one takes off, many more than just a handful of games will be supported (much like 3D cards when they first came out, remember 3DFX?... probably not) 2. When something new comes out it is typically at a higher cost, as manufacturing becomes simplified the price will drop. This is true for almost any industry. Again, look at video cards. 3. The big boys don't need to pick it up. If they did, it would be great as it would absolutely launch things forward at a faster pace, but whether they do or don't, VR is something that too many people have wanted and even dreamt about for decades to just be swept under the carpet. The world is ready to accept this. We are just at the beginning stages. You have to start somewhere. Things don't just become popular out of the blue unless you are talking about pop music. |

Originally posted by RefMinor I know what you mean, but it does seem he is not calling any of these games an MMO, or stating they change what MMO means either. Rather, he is just making a point that the 2 genres are beginning to overlap one another. I for one am all for it too. I am happy to see some features of an MMO incorporated into an ARPG. In fact, its part of the reason I am so interested in Marvel Heroes despite any proof of it being an MMO as the developers label it.

Originally posted by Quirhid Yes, but there were still other things to do. Now a days you can't even explore. Furthermore, my example was using EQ only. Other games didn't concentrate on camping like EQ did. Also, many movies are the same old stories but changed some, yet people still find entertainment. You can watch Pocahontas, then watch another version of it called Avatar and still come out feeling like you watched something different. Where as in todays games NOTHING changes. Some variation is better than none at all. Now lets talk games like UO ;) You never had to camp in that game unless you wanted to. Or you could go be a lumberjack, a miner, a theif, a healer, a ghost whisperer, an alchemist, a mage, a tamer, a woodworker, a fisherman, an explorer, a tracker, a warrior, a defender of the realm, a treasure hunter, a house broker, a trader, a salesman, a seamstress, you could literally role play robin hood if you wanted. And you know what? Out of all I listed, there is still more. Such as a blacksmith or chef. My god... I need to stop myself. New games suck.
