So, I began thinking about e3 and the MMO industry, and did a little research after a particular thought entered my head.  I discovered after a while, that NCSOFT took basically all profit from GW2 shop and sales to make this game.

Now, the actual act of them taking money from that game to make a new one would not bother me at all, had it been a different situation.  But here, I want my money going to Anet not Ncsoft.

GW2 from a technical and innovation perspective has the frame to be one of the best games out there right now, but all they add is temporary garbage blah blah content.  Due to limited funding me thinks? Yup because it all went towards this, Wildstar.

GW2 has been out for less than 1 year

Carbine has been working on Wildstar for at least 5 years

While that would be a valid point, you can't take those statements literally at all.  "Working on" could mean a graphics artist drew the front cover and thats it.  Not to mention, assuming the devs chromosomes are intact, it doesn't take 5 years to think of raids arena's and quest hubs.  To support this, the GW2 Expansion was JUST announced along with the gem store statement of how Ncsoft is finnaly "pleased" with profits.  IT IS entirely possible for a publisher to divert funds to a different game. Thats the only reason companies like perfect world entertainment and NCsoft are still alive for example.  Their game dies, and they make a new one. That dies, they make a new one.  PWE's most recent decaying corpse is Neverwinter P2W extradoinare, and I can name a ton of dead games NCsoft has had relation with.

ArenaNet has not announced any expansions for Guild Wars 2 yet. ArenaNet is still fully staffed with Guild Wars 2 developers. If all of Guild Wars 2 'profits' are somehow being funneled into Carbine Studios, how are they paying all of the Guild Wars 2 devs?

Thats wierd cuz http://www.gamebreaker.tv/mmorpg/guild-wars-2-expansion-coming/.

HA! Saying that they will have an expansion "someday" isn't an announcement of an expansion. We've always known GW2 would eventually have an expansion. We knew that before the game even came out.

“Expansions are definitely something that we’ll potentially look at in the future, but we don’t have a timetable on it,” - Colin Johanson.

Instead of discussing the merits of your theory that all of GW2's profits are being funneled to Carbine studios, you choose to chase a rabbit off topic.  Please explain how you can prove that WildStar (which began development 2 years before GW2 did) is somehow taking all of Guild Wars 2's profits (which is still fully staffed).?

You did zero research. Carbine was formed in 2005 and became a part of NCSoft in 2007. WildStar began development 2 years before Guild Wars 2 did http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ncsoft-unveils-carbine-studios/017482/

Sounds like Smed is simply quoting out of the 'how to get attention' manual. Until he can show anything to prove what he's saying, ti's all pretty meaningless.

Pretty dull actually. Another failboat in the making. Some devs just never learn.

What's dull about it? What reasons can you elaborate on as to why you feel it will fail? What should the WildStar devs learn in order to make a game that would make you happy?

Guys/gals we can do better than this. Same stuff different toilet. How many times is this game gonna be made? It seems that western marketing departments are more creative than the developers.

Isn't that Hellreaver the polearm form Hellfire Citadel?

edit - Yep it is.

wait the made the hilt shorter...

What else did you expect form a studio started by some 20 ex vanilla WoW devs. This isn't exactly breaking news you're repeating over and over again on these forums.

Did you even read the 'why' behind why they did this?

I sorta expect the "excitement" to be all be over after E3. This site will show lots of ads and run PR spots, but the shine will be gone in general.

How is this even remotely possible since they are simply running their game on 2 Alienware computers in the Alienware booth. I can understand if WildStar was actually putting together a presentation and laid an egg. To think that the game will sink because of a set up to let new people try the game (considering the thousands that have played the same build before)? Remember, it wasn't Carbine that was pulling convention footage off YouTube. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and you can't seriously suggest that 2 Alienware laptop demos are goning to derail the game, can you?

E3 Public Demo
General Discussion « WildStar

Obviously the author accomplished what he wanted to, with the inflammatory article title. I had expected a genuine critique of the gameplay elements but instead was met with a diatribe about not being able to rebind keys on a public demo. In addition, complaining about no new e3 reveals. While I had been critical of the article, some of the commenters were quite harsh. It was refreshing to see Troy "Aether" Hewitt (WildStar community lead) step in and try to calm the situation:

Hello friends! Troy "Aether" Hewitt here to clear some things up. First, we as a team thrive on critical feedback. From what we read, there was a lot we git, and more that needs further evaluation to see if we understand where the author comes from.

Second, the WildStar E3 demo was custom tailored for folks who might not have had a chance to get their hands on WildStar. That could have been made more clear.

But most importantly, making an MMO as rich and deep as WildStar requires all kinds, including those that carry reservations. We need that feedback the most!

No one should ever be vilified for sharing their honest criticism about our work. Agree, or disagree, WildStar is living organism the evolves through creative disagreement. We fuel our daily iteration with feedback from testers and fans, our staff, and articles like this.

I just have a small request: Let's elevate the discussion beyond dividing ourselves into camps that devolve into defaming each other's mothers. We are making a serious game, so help us by providing serious feedback.

And for the love of unicorns, stop abusing the author. It's making it difficult for me to sort out the good stuff from the plain old internet shenanigoats.

Continue on, but let's not burn anyone in effigy just yet. Carbine has plenty of time to piss you off, so save the vitriol for when you really need it.

Best,but
Troy "Aether" Hewitt
@CRB_Aether on the twits.

Anybody who's ever taken a shower has had an idea. The question is what happens after you dry off. Smed has said some very impressive things, but I'm witholding all judgement until I see proof that they can pull any of this off.
I'm not a fan of losing control of my camera just to attack something. I also disable 'smart camera' in games as well, since often strategic play involves watching your back while performing an action with your character. Camera targeting isn't more difficult, it's just annoying.
Well Bill, I'm glad to see that you admit that the first two are a tie for you. I don't think you're alone on that one! WildStar has really grabbed my attention, and I admit that EQNext has been off my radar. I'll have to look more into that one now.
They announced on twitter that you have to uninstall the beta client. I did, and had no issues installing. It's strange but doesn't mean the game fails. If it fails, this won't be the reason.
They just left a huge door wide open for WildStar

Not instanced, and teamwork is encouraged. Paths will all work together. They call it "crossing paths" which means that say, an Explorer opens up a new underground cavern. He can bring his buddies in and within it a Soldier may find a Holdout, or a Scientist may unlock new unique lore or a Settler may find a quest. The game is built to encourage diversity and working together.

I agree with the OP. The bird and the Llama are buck naked. At least the SB models had clothes.

Here are the issues I have with personal story:

1. When you finish it, well - it's finished. I honestly can't remember much about mine except that I didn't enjoy it much after Traherne joined the picture. This was months ago and unless there is an expansion, I feel like I beat the game already. Sure, I could get better gear but why? Nobody is running a damage meter and I'm already a fricken killing machine. (Warriors FTW).

2. As you level up, the next steps are way too spread out. At higher levels, the next steps are sometimes 5 levels above you and you have to grind your way up to do the next one - even though the danger is imminent and the story says they need you right away. "Yeah, I know that there is a giant dragon attacking, but uh, I need to go help some Hylek defend their food supply first and clear weeds out of a farmer's field."

3. The culmination of a solo story ending in a forced dungeon ... terrible design choice. Don't get me wrong, I had no trouble getting people to run story mode with me. I was able to complete the dungeon right away. Even worse, the story elements that begin to show up in the final dungeon only make sense for a player that completed all of the other dungeons (which many players do not). Personal story should be 'personal'. It's solo content, so they should have left it solo.

I love GW2 and still play it, but as far as I'm concerned, Personal Story is one of the weakest elements of the game.

Be careful, Troy Hewett said that despite of what we heard, they haven't made any announcements. This is still subject to change so nobody should dig in quite yet.

:sigh:

All four paths won't appeal to everybody. You clearly aren't interested in the Explorer path. This is on purpose, so by not choosing Explorer you won't have to do as much of that kind of content. Pick one that has the stuff you like to do then.
