I really don't like to see games fail, and for the life of me, I can't understand how so many games can have individually good ideas but one game can't come and put them all together. You know what's also different from all those games and GW2? They're out, and we can now look back at the actual games themselves and see what they did wrong. We can't do that with GW2. Yet. It's easy to sit back and say that enough information about Warhammer and Swtor (I never played FF, but when the boss apologizes for releasing a bad game, I guess enough's said) wasn't released, but it was. We had gameplay videos all over the place. But you can't really get a feel for the thing until you play it. It's not really fair to compare the marketing departments of these games while using the state of those games to prove your point. Here's the thing. Marketing sold me on games like Warhammer and Auto Assault. Marketing has sold you on GW2. Because that's all it is. Good marketing. And it's JUST hype and marketing until the game hits the shelves. Look, I had this same conversation with AmazingAvery when he knew that Age of Conan would be the best game ever. I get it. And I'll never convince you that you're affected by anything other than just what has to be the most awesome game ever. That's fine too. Just realize that it's all the same sales machine, and this one has your soul. Just like A Secret World has mine. That's going to be the best game ever. I saw videos. |

Yeah, WoW's release was pretty bad. I remember getting all those days free because they kept having so much downtime. Not to mention that every Tuesday they were down all day. That sucked, because I had Tuesdays off. Talk about salt in the wounds. And I only switched to WoW because EQ2 had a few consecutive days of downtime, so I said nuts to that. City of Heroes had a smooth launch. That's the first game I can remember where I said to myself, "Self, this game actually launched with very few issues! I'm very impressed!" Rift's launch was also good. I think Lotro's was too. I don't know. We can play this particular game all day long.

If box sales are a good indicator of how great a game is, why isn't anyone suggesting World of Warcraft? Anyway...
I would actually say get Swtor, because in my experience, the early times of an mmo (bugs notwithstanding) are the best. Everyone's friendlier, the playing ground is more level, and there's still a sense of exploration. Mmo's have a shelf life, and if you like Swtor, I'd say get in early. Skyrim will always be Skyrim. Well, that's no correct really. Skyrim will be even better on down the road, when official expansions are released, when more patches are out, and when more mods are created. I was playing Oblivion just a couple months before Skyrim came out. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to go back to it now, after seeing how much better things are, but what can you do. Everything will come down in price if you wait. Everything. So don't let that move you one way or the other. I don't think you'll make a bad decision either way. I really enjoy both games. |

Originally posted by firefly2003 Imperial Commando was such a good game. Best AI for a squad based shooter I've ever seen. Now if they could do a Privateer-style open Star Wars game. That'd be something I'd spend my money on. I haven't played a good space combat sim in awhile. I miss them. |

Any Leia-like Character in SWTOR?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/19/11 2:59:03 AM
If you're not familiar with Cracked, they did an excellent four minute or so video on Leia (more or less). Such good times.

WAR40K desides to pursue the WoW clone path.
General Discussion « Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online 7/14/10 6:46:19 PM
When I first heard about this game, I just knew it was going to be the best game ever released ever. Now I'm positive it's going to the worst game produced in the history of game production. I'm definitely writing this off forever. Unless, that is, they manage to convince me through some vague, directionless sentences that it'll be the best game ever. Then I'll be totally on board. Unless they say something I don't like. Then back off. Those beautiful jerks. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Five Reasons to Be Stoked for The Old Republic
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/06/10 2:12:17 PM
Originally posted by barezz Honestly, I thought the first trailer to ToR was better than all three of the prequels combined. So in my opinion, Bioware's already succeeded. And I'm with a lot of people on liking Bioware here. Back in the day, I would buy anything Blizzard made sight unseen, just for the simple fact that it was Blizzard. Between them and Black Isle, those were the two companies I could count on to produce a great product. I have brand loyalty. And sure, a mmo is new ground, but they did do Neverwinter Nights, so they're not totally oblivious to a multiplayer game. Do I really need to use another Blizzard reference here already? On the flip side, it seems like I've been burned, time and time again by the MMO genre. I don't have any faith in that area anymore, not since Warhammer took all my hopes and dreams and ate them. So I understand when people are skeptical. In all, I'm going to be hopeful, but I'll wait until it releases and I hear some reviews first. If it's really great, I may even buy one of the billion Collector's Editions that I'm sure will sure be on the shelves a month after the fact. |

Teamspeak 3, Ventrillo and Mumble really?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/03/10 9:11:12 PM
Originally posted by SuperXero89 That seems like a pretty gross exaggeration. To many people, it's not about being lazy, it's about voice chat being a better option, period. I've been typing for a long time now, I have no problem typing in chat. I'm good at it. I like typing. Talking while playing the game is just better. Honestly, if people are having dumb conversations in Vent, they'd be having those same conversations in guild chat. And if it happens alot, then the guild is not for me. I've managed to find a good core group of friends through voice chat. It allowed me to talk to them while messing around in other games. I mean, half the point to these games is to socialize right? Now the random voice chatting over consoles, where anyone in the world can just pop up over your speakers and start screaming like an idiot? That's annoying. |

Will more people play warcraft when Cataclysm is released?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 3/11/10 6:42:31 AM
All I can tell you is that after 3 or 4 years of not playing it, after getting tired of doing the high end raids of the time, I resubbed so I could experience all the old places before they go away. And I brought 2 new people into WoW because of it. I'm looking forward to Cataclysm. The one thing I've always wanted in an mmo was some sort of evolution in the land itself. Roads repaired or destroyed, bridges finally fixed, new buildings, etc. Sure it takes a lot of time to put in this sort of thing and the payoff is small, but that's what I like. And this feels like a step in that direction, even though it is only a one time, broad stroke sort of deal. |

Best not to make predictions about games. Just saying. |

Does this feels like Freelancer (2003)????
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 1/19/10 9:12:42 PM
Was that the sequel to Privateer? I may need to look that up. In any case, this game doesn't play anything like those games. Those were incredibly fun, fast paced games that set the bar for their genre. STO isn't nearly as fun as those games were. Hell, most games aren't as fun as those games were. STO is slow. Sloooow. Ship combat is slow, the search missions are slow, there's just a lot of waiting in general. Ground combat isn't as bad, but it's all a bit repetitive. There's nothing like the open-ended world of Freelancer either. Man, that was a good game. I don't know. STO may have potential, but it's not for me at this time. Definitely worth trying it out for free if you can get in the beta though. |

I'm pretty sure he meant "Vanguardian" as Vanguard was really, really buggy when it was launched. Just about unplayable. Not as bad as Anarchy Online (from what I've heard) but still one of the worst launches ever. And it took how many years for CoH to implement all those changes? The problem is these days, we have options, and if a mmo doesn't have what it takes to take interest from the current generation of games right from the beginning, then why would anyone play it? CoH had the advantage of coming into the market before WoW and was able to build a fanbase without being compared to anything better. STO does not have that luxury. It has to be good now. It can't be mediocre with potential. |

General: The List: Five Scariest MMO Launches

They'll call you things like dumb, or nonsensical and they'll call your posts dumb AND nonsensical. You need to ignore all of this though and just continue posting, because you just know, in your heart of hearts, that everyone agrees with you. And remember, opinions can be stated as facts here. And so can half-truths. And blatant lies. Just have fun with it and know that there's no one that can prove you wrong if you don't actually supply any actual facts to debate. Again, congratulations! I hope your stay here is a long and fruitful one we can all learn from.
As an aside, didn't EQ2 have a particularly bad launch? I seem to remember it being down for like, 2 or 3 days straight in the beginning. I just remember switching to WoW at that time. Ah well.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: A Hint at Player Housing?
News Discussion « General Discussion 8/26/09 4:09:57 PM
EQ2 has instanced housing. You can put crafting stations in there, open it up to guests, have your storefront in them, craft all sorts of furniture for it and put it wherever you want. You can even make a rug, elevate it into the air, and create a virtual second story (if your house doesn't have one). I like the ability to have an apartment in the city, or a house in a high class area of said city. I actually managed to get a house inside the magic guild. And all you had to do to visit other homes was click on a door and choose what home you wanted to look at. I used to do it all the time with the huge guild halls. I guess I don't understand why people are so against instanced housing. What am I missing? |

TOR: What's The Worst That Could Happen?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/29/09 7:39:33 AM
The worst that could happen is the game gets negative reviews upon release, I ignore said reviews, buy the game, and end up hating it, thereby losing myself money for absolutely no reason. Other than that, anything they do to it won't affect me one iota. But honestly, the trailer was more entertaining than the last three real Star Wars movies, so even if I don't buy the game, they'll always have a place in my heart. |

Okay, so I ran the original post through an english to spanish translator (I took a shot), and then ran it back through the other way, and this is what I got.
Werd up mxo is not dyin s0n. I do not Happines for my boi rarebit Othar drug is cooking some ass with ISH EMA hesitate to bring to the matix line 2! I mean why EMA mxo off if not going to do MXO2, THINK ABOUT IT. MXO had 250,000 tons of beaches such as dialysis and live events and stuff, that would be enough to ditch stpid concert because I smell?
So to answer your question, you should absolutely ditch the concert if you smell. And good luck with the diabetes. |

I grew up with text based mmorpgs. Loved them. I have far more good memories playing those games then I do anything else since, and I haven't stopped playing games ever. The thing is, the games were all new to me then. I was young, it was so incredible and new, all these new worlds, and you could do anything you wanted to in them. I mean, it seemed like you could. Really it was pretty limiting, and if you didn't have good friends, everything was kind of bland. But now we look back at things with rose colored glasses, and dream about how wonderful those days were, when really, it was just the newness of it all. So I guess my point is, if you're new to the mmo scene, don't worry about missing anything. Most of the current games I personally may think suck, but I'm jaded and hate people now. Go out and make your own terrific times that you can reminisce about on the forums 10 years from now. I'm not even sure what I'm rambling on about now. I feel old. |

Blue screen error everytime I install games or turn on a computer
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 6/14/09 9:15:38 AM
Actually, if you were building your own pc and kept getting this message, I'd tell you to just buy a premade. Premade's don't have these problems out of the box like that. At least not at the rate you're seeing them. Like the second poster said, it's something you're doing wrong. What are you doing other then installing games when you first get these computers? Are you surfing risque sites without protection? Because that could definitely be a problem here. What you need to do is install a game, and then see if the computer works. If it doesn't, then go into safe mode and uninstall it. That's pretty much it. With a premade computer, you shouldn't have to mess with voltages or do any other troubleshooting whatsoever, especially this soon after purchase. |
