Why I am excited about Elder Scrolls Online

Bill4747 I think you will get the game you are anticipating, so many of these twats putting you down probably havnt even spent the time researching hard facts about whats going to be included so you can disregard there sh!t, they just listen to each other and then go off ranting like they know it all, but if you look deep into what people say who have played the game are saying I think you will get the game your looking for. Obviously the hotbar makes it differ from Skyrim but the lack of "auto attack" and block not being a percentage chance will mean it will feel very much like skyrim in combat. I like being able to fight weapons with my mouse and use hot keys to fire off magic etc, for me it makes for a much faster paced version of skyrim! And yes instanced dungeons do take away from immersion a bit but hey, at least they are offering public dungeons which is better than some current mmos and i have a feeling that content out side of a dungeon is not JUST going to be for soloing like so many games do these days (which is somthing I really dont like) so I think there will be plenty of group content out of dungeons and that nervous feeling crossing regions yet explored with hard mobs that would kick your butt, (but with a group at the same level you could take them down) that for me is a big part of immersion in an MMO, makes me think of crossing Nek Forest in EQ1 :p I cant wait for it to come out mate and my thoughts are exactly the same as yours! Keep looking into the features and researching and there is nothing wrong with dreaming!

Make stuff soloable but some kind of difficulty increase would be entertaining as you go through the levels, Just increasing mobs hitpoints as you increase spell damage means each solo fight is almost identical. (a few boss mobs aside) I cant figure out how people can go through 50 levels of solo play whether its on a quest to collect 10 bananas or not lol |

If there is a big solo element of the game thats fine, but they should make the group content extra HARD and obviously have much better rewards so people are attracted to the challenge and reward and actually play it with some degree of social interaction. I hate hate hate playing solo orientated MMO's where there is no need to communicate at all... kills the whole vibe and in my opinion purpose all together. But maybe thats just me...

Looks like they will be using a CC system for the tanking mechanic! dudes talking about using a Mortal Kombat Scropian Harpoon style pull in alpha version to bring mobs to you which has a stun at the end of it, and bash stun skill which doesnt require shields, all these things using fairly hefty stamina so if your trying to control the mobs position you cant do as much crazy sword weilding damage because your spending your stamina on the CC skills instead which sounds good to me!!

I dont know what you guys do when your waiting for groups / tanks / healers etc, but when i ever was doing this I had a ton of fun cause thats when you find someone else waiting for a group make a great duo and go do some other content. I guess this less fun these days cause all the content outside of a dungeon is usually for solo play which sucks for a duo working like a well oiled machine. I hope they take a leaf out of EQ1's book and make most things almost too hard for a solo except in the starter zones. ( almost too hard with exception of the necro in eq1 of course) :p

Oh one last thing re the "artifical taunt" if a caster can be firing off fireballs and a necro can be summoning pets why is it so far fetched for a tank to be using a taunt which is not a rude word or hand signal but fancy named spell which draws the attention of the mob for a given duration?

I am an EQ player from ages ago and loved the group mechanics of that game, you could manipulate any encounter to suit the group no mater how many people or what classes you had. of course if you had Tank, Heals DPS it could be done in a straight forward manner but if you take away both your Tank and Healer and inserted a CC say an enchanter then you could come up with a new formula to kill the mob/s. without ever needing a tank or healer but you had to play smart. I think the trinity pisses people off because in new games if you dont have it your going to struggle with any hard encounter. So in my opinion the issue isnt having the trinity in the game its what other classes can do when you DONT have the trinity. And the answer to this I think is not to make other classes able to tank / heal its to enable CC skills relevant to their class, Roots, Mez, Charm, Fear, Stun etc etc... One thing i am not likeing as much with the MMO's i played recently is that everyone seems to desire to do the biggest damage possible and this is killing the finesse of MMO playing, especially just dumping AOE damage... since big damage AOE skills are given to most classes these days the job of an CC class has diminished. I would really like to see the skill of a crowd controller brought back to the game. Not only the skill of the CC'r but the group as well, cause if you have ever played EQ in a dungeon group with a ton of Adds controlled by a chanter and then your Wiz drops an AOE bomb you know what is going to happen next... This style of play also brings a little bit more converstation back to an MMO as you truly have to work together calling out adds as they arrive and a tank actually yelling instructions as he moves from mob to mob, when you just have a group full of people trying to out DPS each other its so silent and in my opinion boring as S#!T... excuse my typing i am rushing this through at work... |

I have been looking for a similar sort of thing, recently played Vanguard SoH free trial and the group dynamics of that game look awesome, bugs fixed and game working very well! Its like oldschool EQ before they tried to make everything easy so it requires some skillful grouping and a need to understand your class and role. The population is on the rise which is good! Its all open areas, No instances but alot of questing with shared xp and rewards, the spawn times are fast so if the mob you want is being taken the spawn time means you will get a shot at it fairly quickly anyways! Great classes doing their own unique jobs, Bards with an interesting ability to compose songs, enchanters working as crowd controllers, 4 diverse types of healers, unique mele DPS classes, Necro with ability to have multiple pets, Tanks with group tactic abilitys and ability to change stance for DPS roles! I really thought they nailed the MMORPG for people wanting some group play that required the players to pay attention instead of everyone just attacking as much as possible! 2 Thumbs up from an old school EQ player! TRY IT its free and only a 1gb game download to get started!! Telon server seems to be the way to go for best population |
