The End of MMOs? Read please, I need your opinion
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/18/07 11:22:59 PM
Don't buy ArchLord unless you like grindfest asian type mmorpgs with gank style pvp. Honestly, I am waiting right now, doing other things till a decent mmorpg comes out that I can put some "well spent" time into. I agree with a lot of what you have said. My advice, step away from the pc for awhile, enjoy the summer, log back on late fall and !BAM! some new mmorgps to try. |

After reading your post it seems you are looking for a class that is "versatile" and not just unique. Unfortunetly most games have the basic class/race system implemented. What I find myself doing is going away from the cookie cutter specs and trying new combinations, not only does it make games more challenging I find myself understanding the characters skills/abilities much more. This helps tremendously in pvp situations. If you haven't tried GW, try it, its free2play and a decent online game, and wait for something "more your style" to come along. |

By nature people want to be right, and they want to have others agree with them. Unfortuntely it seems people would rather argue about something flawed in a game then agree on something positive about the content or interface they like. No game is perferct for everyone, it may be perfect for you, revel in that, enjoy it. Its not that I don't notice the shortcomings or flaws in a game, its just that I try to enjoy the positive aspects and not point out the negative in other games, that others like. I played WoW on and off for about 3 years, it was good. |

Its hard not to laugh when you read a post like this one here. The problem with a lot of gamers is the general mentality that they can have what they want when they want it. If the game or group is not going your way, just drop out or disconnect. Thats worse to me than to think/say you need an item and roll greed on it. But then the point that everyone will justify that they need that shiny/colored item is very accurate. If not for this character for another. Greed is such in that it is so integrated in the mentality of the youth today the whole Need/Greed idea is hardly useful. I can see it working with guilds where a hierarchy is established, and with maturer players. Or anyone who has a sense of honor or respect.. a hard thing to find in mmorpgs these days. |

A review is biased in nature, its one persons opinion on a game... And as far as accurate if it is exactly how they feel about it.. its 100% accurate. Thats why you have to take an accumulation of reviews and look at the good and bad then determine if you want to play the game. To only look for good or bad in a review would be to get a biased review. Know what you are looking for in a game, look at the reviews and weigh the good and bad and make a choice. A good review can save you time and money. e.g. i avoided the whole Dark and Light debacle, thanks to the reviewers.

Yeah, I noticed the rating fluctuation as well. LOTRO was 8.4 and all dropped to 8.1 and it seems they are gradually raising back up as LOTRO drops. I have also noticed how when a new game releases it has high ratings but then seems to drop pretty quick, especially some of the lame grindfest asian mmorpgs you see. A dime a dozen... Now it seems like things have stabled out.

I thought this game was going to be a hit when it first was in the lime light. It took way too long for it to show and when it did they released it too soon and a lot of people were scammed and felt cheated. To many promises, very few kept.. there is a reason it is on the bottom of the rating list even though the 20 above are a joke in graphics and content. This game did have potential in my mind, I liked many of the ideas and concept.. just not how the devs and those behind it treated the customers and handled the situation.

I think AC was and is still a very good MMORPG and was easily the best of its day. It has lost some of the graphic luster it once had but as far as the combat goes and comparing it to AoC, i think there will be many differences. Go to AoC's webpage and read on their REAL COMBAT ideas. http://community.ageofconan.com There is some interesting things they discuss and say will be implemented in the game. I would comment more but this is the AC forum, .. AC was a great game! Click the link and hit FAQ on the left, REAL COMBAT is #2 on the list. |

It brings back many fond memories, this game and DAoC were the best this genre has ever seen. Thanks for the memories MortalCoil. |

There is also technically all level pvp in Darkness Falls, but obviously is geared for the higher levels.

I prefer games with depth and a variety of control options. For me this game got un-interesting after about 2 weeks of game play. Once you get past the initial glamour you start to see how repetative it is and how much it lacks content. If you are looking for a game you can jump on and grind away for awhile.. hopeing for that next level so you can get new gear and skills.. it . It does not have too bad of PVP content, but you tend to get a lot of the lower level ganking action or getting jumped while you fight mobs etc... It seems like it lacks that honor/respect that good pvp needs, and is geared somewhat to the ganker types. I tried to play it again last week and that lasted about 1 hour.. it just doesn't have what it takes to keep me interested.

Without a doubt mmorpgs will become more prevalent within the next few years. High scale mmorpgs can be a very lucrative business, you will see more and more big companies jumping on the bandwagon as it progresses. With that you will see a seperation in quantity and quality as you do in other industries. Future bright for gamers? Sure, in that there will be more and a variety to come. Technology will increase as the gamer demands. Although i don't play any mmorpgs right now more than an acouple hours a week, i have tried about 30 different ones in the last few weeks. Bring on 07, waiting for a new DAoC. |

What is the pvp in eq2 like? I blew the game off because I usually play mmorpgs for the pvp aspect. I just found out that there are pvp server(s) and am curious if it compares to daoc, or even wow. I can't imagine it is anything to spectacular simply because the original was primarily pve. If you pvp on eq2 would you give me a little info on what its like and maybe a comparison to another game, i appreciate it. |

Yea Ac was a good solid game and I am glad it is still around and seems like it is doing okay. I have considered playing it again but I don't know if I want to grind my way up again either. Its be atleast 4-5 years since I last played and I don't have a clue what account or password i used then. Anyways enjoy the game if you decide to play again, it was a lot of fun.

In regards to RFO going free, there are many sites out there that will hand out free trial keys so you can play. I will admit that a trial is not an indefinite time period, but from past experiences with games that go from charging to free trials usually end up dying, or allowing the game to continue free,(to serve other interests, games, community) or possibly even handing out the code. So free? yes and no.

A Genuine new player for DAoC
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 10/30/06 8:26:27 PM
I have played DAoC on and off over the years and I have to say it is the best mmorpg experience I have ever had. Having played over 30 mmorpgs in the last 2 years and currently not playing one right now, I am almost tempted to play the classic DAoC server. For someone who has never tried DAoC i would say give it a shot, I do not think you would be disappointed with it. DAoC was the best, and it might still be one of the best, if not the best mmorpg out there right now. |

There are a lot of free mmorpgs out there, here are some I have played. Kal Online 4- Fun for a week. Turf Battles 5- Can be interesting if you like some pvp. Knight Online 3- Weak. Carpe Diem 5- Beta, could get decent. Archlord 5- Was beta and had a lot of bugs etc.. Released gets old fast. AO 5- Old game some decent qualitys. GW 6- Free after you buy it, if you don't buy the . Decent game. RFO 2- Dying game, was released and p2p went free now. Shadowbane 6- Was p2p, now free, decent pvp. Silkroad 5- Basic Asain grind game, some nice scenery. Runescape 2- Heh. some people like it. Rakion 4- Pvp game, fun at times. Cabal 4-Palyed in beta, then it was bought overseas and american servers were shut down. Hero Online 5-Fun at first, gets repetative. Rappelz 5-Haven't given it enough time. Ferrentus 5-Naw, too basic. Deicide 3- Not sure if its a joke or what. Minions of Mirth 4- Too old school. Lotro 7-Beta, I think I wasn't supposed to mention that. Ryl (Risk Your Life) 6- This game could be fun if they would get rid of the cheaters. There is a free Malaysian version out, as well as others. I know I have tried many more but maybe this will give you some idea. Currently I do not play a mmorpg, i am still waiting for something decent to come along. |

I have played Archlord for 2 weeks and have given it enough time to see if it was worth my time. Sadly I must say I can't find anything about it exciting enough to make me want to spend any more time on it. I did play RFO for about a month but that game lacked in many ways. I have now found out that RFO has flopped. The problem with Archlord is that i see many of the same elements as RFO. If you are considering AL and have played RFO and did not like it, don't waste your resources on AL. RFO and AL are terrible grindfests with weak game content and old concept questing, overall I feel they have little to offer in the long run. |

Yea, I have had the same question for about the last 2 years. Are there any decent pvp games coming out that have enough content to keep me interested long term? Will it have enough content to hold those that are not all about pvp interested so there is some world population? Pvp is 75% of my gaming experience, if the pvp in a game is not exhilirating i won't last. Daoc has to be the best pvp I have experienced in a game, early UO was excellent and even Wow had some good moments. As far as what is coming out that might have some decent pvp i would vote Warhammer, and possibly Conan, those are the 2 games I am waiting to test out. Completely open pvp is a rare find, hopefully someone will figure out the balance soon. Anyone else sick of the grind fest, very low content asian mmorpgs, its time to boycott.. something. |
