GUILD WARS - ArenaNet has a very BRILLIANT and noble approach. You pay for the new chapters, but only if you want to. You only keep bying in, so long as the devs keep IMPRESSING YOU and WORKING HARD FOR YOU while keeping your interest. If they slack, they lose out. Meanwhile, the price of the new expansion box pretty much covers what a monthly fee would cover between the months when the next chapter comes out. While GW wasn't for me, I did play for a year and applaud ArenaNet. |

They charge so much because: 1 - People will pay it. 2 - Greed. {just the nature of BUSINESS} 3 - Hugely popular so they know they can get away with it. And a lot of other reasons - but yes, it would be VERY cool of a company to lower their price for the players once they know they're more than set. But, alas they want to make all the bucks they can before it's finally time to bow out. Look at Galaxies... everyone says 'Oh the game is dying' but the price will not budge to make every last cent it can until it DOES close. |

Before you guys go nuts, here's what I'm thinking. As MMO's age and new one's arise, their graphics begin to show that age. Not only do the graphics of a game no longer live up to par with new gen MMO's, but you'd figure less work is required for their updates and such than in the first few years. Games like Galaxies could probably benefit from offering a lower cost for pay to play mmo's. Cost vs. Demand, right? I think it would also be a great nod to all the vet players who stuck with the game so long if after some years they dropped the monthly price. This would possibly help them 'stay in the game' while it could possibly keep the game in competative status with the newly developed, better looking but higher priced MMO's. This is just a thought and I doubt it would ever really happen, I just figured an aged game shouldn't cost quite as much as a 'new gen game that puts the old ones to shame'. Plus it would broaden the market cost range to provide games for people who don't want to pay so much for a game online but are willing to pay more reasonable prices. Remember this is a discussion not an invite for immature posts - thanks. So.... Thoughts? Open fire. |

I keep hearing 'the difference between BETA quality and Pre Order dvd High Rez install is like apples and oranges.' Would anyone care to prove or disprove this? If anyone has the Pre-Order installed could you please post a few screens to show off the difference between that and the Beta install which I'm told is only 'Medium' quality even if you set it to Ultra High. Thanks in advance. |

I would say it's definitely more like WoW, but much more enjoyable and has some distinct differences. They obviously used a lot of what worked from WoW which is not a bad thing... but all in all a much more enjoyable experience especially if you are a role player. |

That's precisely why I'm hesitant... because I know despite having the passion and the ideas, that's just not enough in the end. Failure sucks... but devoting years to a project only to fail sucks even more. Then again all we can do is learn. Well whom ever you are, you live up to your name sir. What do you think the chances would be for me to get a team of people interested in building a small scale MMO from the forums on this site? I've been heavily considering posting an 'all call' for 'talent'. I'm a visionary and a storyteller but sadly lack any technical skills. I've been creating pen & paper RPG material for a decade now -- and I'd love to share my stories with others. But developing a group online connected electronically can be very... limiting and challenging. What do you think?

Right On CaesarsGhost. I'm glad to know someone still understands the strength of passion... I could write on and on but I'll save it cuz there's just too much to say.

I've conceptualized an entire MMO - but I lack the funds and technical skills... I'm just some dude from Canada with a dream hehe. But damn I'd love to play a vampire already... I know I'd suffer in sales but I'd probably push for an Occult setting with an adult rating... the night life ain't for kids, sorry!

Oh man I'd love a Freelancer MMO... one sci-fi universe I really liked and thought could make a great MMO was the one from Advent Rising. I love that game... it was far from perfect but my mind couldn't help but start conceptualizing it as an MMO. Another one that wasn't mentioned so far was the Stargate MMO... and of course the Star Trek MMO. |

I hear ya Shae. While I love fantasy, I also love occult. I'd love to have a 'horror-fantasy' style mmo in fact it was my suggestion to the group of developers I've been interacting with - however they went another course which is too bad... I love vampire lore especially and I think there's a huge crowd to gather up and a chance for great storytelling in a gothic setting also. Someone will eventually get wise and make one... hopefully it won't suck. |

It is! And if we work together later on I'll definitely let you know the difference between the two stories. I am interested in what you've got written - so far I think it has the potential to go a multitude of awesome places ;) |

Hey! Interesting stuff... the story is fairly close and the setting even closer to an MMO story I'm writing for another group [thought there are dreastic differences between what I've written and created and what you're developing] right now. Should you need a writer for everyting from story expansion to character interaction, let me know and drop me a PM :) Best of luck! |

Once again, I thank you all who posted intelligent feedback - It seems I will give the game some time to mature unless anyone feels kind enough to grant me with a way into the game [in which case plese MP me] to which I would be most greatful. To all who already play and enjoy the game, have fun :) and hopefully I'll see you in the game one day.
Thank you. |

Thanks everyone for your mature feedback. It sounds like maybe it'd be a good idea to keep an eye on the game and let it grow a little bit as the devs are working hard I'm sure to tweak it still and work out these bugs. For now at least, I have the LotRO beta to keep me entertained but I'll definitely keep a watch on Vanguard. Cheers |

I love to solo adventure and discover – but more than that I love to travel with a small group of my friends. We generally solo for the first while, meet up and then go on quests and explore the world together. Like a mini fellowship but smaller. Now we’ve all been looking forward to this game and unfortunately none of us made it into the Beta’s but there has been so much negativity surrounding V:SoH it’s honestly insists hesitation. We don’t want to buy the game if it’s not what we hoped it would be – or at least not yet.
We’re not what you might call ‘hardcore’ mmo gamers, we lean towards Role Playing, adventuring and exploring rather than PvP or maxing out our level as soon as possible. We relax with a game and just enjoy living those characters. A lot of what I’ve read leads me to believe we’d have a fairly difficult time with the game – which would make it more tedious than fun for us.
How ‘hardcore’ is this game? It seems like it’s really not for casual players… I’m not expecting to advance without putting work into it, but ‘grinding’ is a tedium designed to keep you working at something mundane for a long period of time which you have paid for and I much prefer the approach that Turbine is taking with LotRO which is – Experience and leveling is QUEST driven, rather than ‘the more you kill, the faster you rise’. I’d love to know Vanguard takes role playing/adventuring seriously enough to reward well for Quests rather than having to grind as a primary source of XP.
Thanks to all who reply in advance - I really want to love this game. |

Keep in mind that's a heck of a lotta $$$ which is fair - Getting a horse SHOULD be something you work hard for. My Champion of level 13 has just over 500 Silver pieces. |

Also with the professions, it'd be great if each player's home could have something such as a Forge for the smiths or a plot of land for the farmers. Guild Halls would be amazing too... and I wouldn't have you be able to just 'buy a house' I'd have it as something where crafters can build things you need for a house, thus adding to the economy of the game and once you get all those quest objectives to fully build a house, then you can finally have one. But I think Turbine is going more for an 'entertainment' factor rather than a 'simulated life' with LotRO if you know what I mean. Still, who knows what the future holds. |
