The list on the left hand side that is.  Perhaps it's just my opinion but I think it would make things a lot easier for many of us if you updated the list and made it longer.  It's missing several of the 'big' MMORPG's that are currently in development.

-DC Online / The Agency are just two titles that come to mind off the top of my head...

Here's two of my fave vids.  One's for laughs, the other is a short but brilliant piece of social commentary with a theme of racism.

I'm sure it will be very story and 'adventure' heavy - but I wouldn't say "Expect a linear story."

If I know BioWare.... and I think I do... I'd say "Expect a very multi-linear story driven game."  They love 'options' and so do I.

I'm qute certain this will be the first MMORPG which really gives players quite a bit of customization and control over their character progression in the way of Stats, Skills, Feats, etc. as well as through NPC interactions using the conversation mechanics they're so well known for, allowing the game to feel like a 'choose your own adventure' game.

My copy of Madden 06 for Gamecube had this feature. You could create custom players(like current versions of Madden) but you could also create a custom team with these or real players. You were able to choose custom team colors, a custom uniform style, a custom team emblem, and a custom team name. I created a custom team full of players named after co-workers. This and Madden 07 for the Xbox 360 were the only two Madden's I have bought and except for the fact you couldn't return a punt in 06, it was by far the better of the two. And based on the Demos I played for Madden 08 and 09. it still is the better game. Madden dropped the custom team feature in 07 and I believe they haven't brought it back.

Thanks Laserwolf, I might look into getting a copy of 06 if the later versions are missing the features.  Sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm personally just gonna boycott everything from EA and sadly, that may include the future BioWare MMORPG.  I hope they get some common friggin sense before that game decides to surface...

I hear that.  I do however feel really sorry for the people who worked hard on the games with EA's DRM bs.

Apparently there are many more issues with SPORE DRM specifically, such as you only get ONE account per copy of the game despite the manual clearly stating you would have many.  An EA rep told a customer that it was a 'misprint' in the manual that would be 'corrected' in future editions of the manual.  Nice huh? It's a pretty big issue for people who share computers, like families.

I have boycotted EA and it really REALLY sucks that they pulled this CRAP on BioWare's MASS EFFECT as well... all I can say is piracy is incredibly tempting, even if you don't want to pirate games - just so you can enjoy them without this kind of invasion of privacy not to mention all the screw ups DRM can cause with your machine.

I'm so glad that EA has dropped it's hostile take over crusade of TAKE 2 Interactive - GTA4PC = Safe from DRM? :)

"Ironies of ironies. It seems that Spore has been downloaded, illegally, over an estimated 500,000 times on BitTorrent, which puts Spore on track as becoming the most illegally downloaded game in history.

We pause as everyone catches their breath from laughing and making rude noises.

EA decided to put SecuROM, an anti-pirating routine, on Spore in an attempt to prevent piracy. Immediate reaction from gamers was overwhelming at Amazon.com, where the game received 2,016 1-star ratings (the lowest score) out of 2,216 reviews. Among other things, gamers balked at the 3-limit installation of the on their PCs.

Although the PC community has given a big two thumbs down on the DRM placed on Spore, EA is turning a deaf ear to the complaints. Mariam Sughayer, corporate communications manager at EA, said that since less than 25% of PC users install games more than once, and that less than 1% tries to install their games more than three times, there is no reason to change policy.

You wouldn't know it from the complaints found on Amazon.com, and all the illegal downloads of the game.

Does DRM work to prevent piracy? In the case of Spore, it seems to have made the practice more popular. It is evident that publishers need to protect their games, but over restrictive DRMs is not the answer. If anything, it has caused a backlash of major proportions through illegal downloads.

If EA decides to change their DRM policy on Spore, they still may be able to make a few bucks before most of their sales disappear to pirates."

Does anyone know of a single Football game which allows the player to not only create a custom football team, but custom players as well?

I'd love it if there were a game where I could transfer all my friends into a game and build up a team that way.  A buddy of mine always plays QB, I'm always WR... All I want is a football game where I can actually make the custom characters based on us and other friends, 'join' the league and go for it - earning stat boosts for victories.  Too much to ask for?

Imagine if people could do this - then take their custom teams ONLINE, especially if up to 4 people could be playing on that team controlling their player VS a group of other 4 players and their own team... or on PC, the multiplayer numbers could be even greater... filling out the team, NPC's for the leftovers.

UO>Most games with its sandbox approach and customization of characters (skill wise as well as pure looks) but once again EOG>UO to most people because of its graphics and learning curve.

Perfect World>All free games in terms of customizing your character but blah blah blah it's not as good as others with a linear game path.

The point is that people like to be guided and don't want freedom. If you don't believe me, look back at all the games that allow for amazing customization and look at how far they've made it. None of them are the big games right now because:

Spoon Fed Quests+Linear Gameplay>Freedom and Customization

That's just how MMOs are.

And that's why current MMO's are mainly shite.  It's not that Freedom and Customization bomb a game, they just aren't developed properly with those features.  There is a very fine balance you have to hit and no one has done it yet.

If SWG was polished much further on launch and wasn't an 'empty sandbox' but rather a huge sandbox with lots of adventures and well done quest strings as well as strong PVP, it would have been a killer game.  So far, every game has tried to go extreme one way or the other.  A hybrid is what's needed.

Call me an RP jerk who doesn't give a damn about your average fanboy gamer that just wants to flare up a saber and play Jedi, but I think there should be some serious difficulties to being a Jedi or even a Dark Jedi.  There are codes and consequences for both sides.

In KOTOR, there was the Force Meter which showed how light/dark you were... when you play out of your role, you're 'penalized' and when you play your role, you're rewarded.  I'm not offerning an exact solution here, but I do think that it shouldn't be easy to become a Jedi - in fact, I think it should be an almost 'unattractive' offering to most people who want to play around in the Star Wars Universe...

Or maybe I'm just taking it too seriously right now because I'm tired of children with glowsticks running around.

...Anyhoo, in case anyone missed the post I made in the middle of the night... I'll repost in this thread:

It's kind of an oldie but a goodie especially if you missed it and are looking forward to the 'Kotor MMORPG'.

Download the interview HERE: http://www.eucantina.net/media/EUCast%20-%20%20Cantina%20Chat%20with%20Drew%20Karpyshyn.mp3

And fast forward to 33rd minute.

Some quotes from the interview - which of course don't directly verify the KOTOR MMORPG

"I would love to give you guys sneak exclusive information."

"There's a lot of information out there - I think people have a pretty good idea of what's going on."

"I've seen 'stuff' and I think it's pretty impressive and I think people are going to be pretty happy and pretty excited when it finally comes public"

Enjoy :)

BTW: For those unfamiliar with Drew Karpyshyn's work, he's the writer responsible for KOTOR 1 for BioWare as well as Mass Effect, as well as a few Star Wars novels and much more. Check out his website at: http://www.drewkarpyshyn.com/games.htm

I chose LOOTING ONLY because it's my fave method, however I like the option for crafted stuff so long as the prices are fair.  I think crafting is a very delicate thing in MMORPG's and if it isn't handled well, it's no fun for anyone.  But I ALWAYS love when something drops off an enemy I just defeated which is a great upgrade.

I like when I get a cool loot drop myself, but also like crafting things and buying selling with other players.  The game I play atm has both, and the devs are very involved in preventing inflation and keeping prices good for both buyers and sellers.   They tinker with the game mechanics to keep the economy functional, kind of like good government in rl.  If there's crafting, buying and selling in a game, and the system clearly is not working, it's the result of a dev team that doesn't know how to keep an ingame economy working properly.

What game are you currently playing, if you don't mind my asking :)

Well I posted a while back that I was able to speak with someone who works for White Wolf and they had seen early work on WoD and it was already looking sweet.  And they confirmed to me that it would be an 'adult game' as it should be... I'm really looking forward to this title and I REALLY hope CCP uses their same model of 'All updates are free, forever.' you just pay your monthly bit and keep going forever, no expansion packs.  That'd be sweet.

I don't mind most of the ads at all - I mean hey MMORPG.com has got to pay the bills... but I hate 'intrusive' ads - especially ones you can't shut up without leaving the page

These ads DO get my attention, they DO NOT cause me to form positive interest, in fact they leave behind a NEGATIVE feeling of annoyance and thus work against your original goals.
