You guys think DISNEY will do a new SW trilogy based MMORPG?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 4/11/13 4:15:42 PM
I would truly love if Obsidian could somehow manage to get a chance at it. But even if they don't, I hope they at least get that shot at making a new Star Wars RPG for us.

I totally know the graphics/art style don't make a game but I can't help but feel put off by it. I'm generally not a fan of most games with the over stylized look. Didn't like WoW, SWTOR and sadly, not digging the look of WildStar.
That being said, I love the theme and setting of the game and wish the game all the best. |

The soundtrack cursed me - now I want this game and can't get the themes out of my mind !! /damn
General Discussion « ArcheAge 4/10/13 6:13:44 AM
Originally posted by SavageHorizon I never said anything was wrong with the combat, it just doesn't appeal to me. I do prefer more action/fast paced combat - The Elder Scrolls Online is sounding pretty good for that. No idea what EQNext will do yet so... we'll see. But I love many of the features of ArcheAge. I will likely give it a shot and hope I don't find the combat boring as it is what you tend to do a LOT in MMORPG's.
Admittedly, in ArcheAge, I'd just want to build a home on some island, get some friends together, build a nice ship and sail/take part in naval combat. |

I so badly wish the COMBAT in this game looked more appealing to me ... because everything else seems great.

General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 4/10/13 5:46:03 AM
Originally posted by Joekra I know they shuttered LucasArts but of course they're going to license out projects and cash in on Star Wars games. No computer games? That'd be a mistake... computers have made a pretty heavy comeback and are still on the climb again as a gaming platform. If some of the rumors are true about the next consoles, it could push computer gaming even further ahead. By by 'Disney making an MMO' I certainly didn't mean they themselves would. But they own the IP so, still their call... and I'm really wondering if they'd make that call. Sadly, I feel like they don't have much of a gaming strategy at the moment which is too bad... All they've really said is:
"After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internet development to a licensing model, minimising the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games." |

With the new trilogy in the works to usher in what I can only assume will be a new generation of fans (and possibly restore some old ones), I can't help but wonder if Disney will eventually want to cash in with a new MMORPG based on said trilogy which will likely feature a lot of the more recognizable Star Wars elements from the OT/Sequel Trilogy.
What do you guys think... maybe we'll see another shot at a great Star Wars MMORPG in like... the next 10 years?
If you were the shot caller, would you do it? |

HATE rp? Then support this so role players won't be on YOUR server.
LOVE rp? Then definitely support this. |

All the best to them but lost me at...

One of the major reasons I decided to pass on the game was simply that, having experienced it in beta, I knew the game was quite shallow. There just sadly isn't much there aside from exactly what you've seen so far.
This is NOT an MMO where you step into another world and get super swept away by all the immersion, detail and plethora of things to do. It's very straight-forward. It's a big third person shooter. If that's what you're after, go for it. Just don't expect too much from the game. |

Something fishy about this wave of invites

Something fishy about this wave of invites... .......I did not get one.

A friend and I finished 3 tiers/levels of it. It actually gets fairly challenging.
It's honestly quite a quality piece of gaming and if it were sold on STEAM or something, I bet it could've made a pretty penny.
Though I doubt it will stay in game past April, I do hop it becomes a yearly event that people will look forward to, as well as the other stuff such as the Halloween events. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Hutt Cartel Release Date Announced

I just kind of want SWTOR to go away... so another company could hopefully take on the challenge of building the Star Wars mmo fans want.

SWTOR worth checking out...again??
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 3/27/13 5:48:24 AM
Sadly, at this time I just wish it would die so we get slightly closer to yet ANOTHER attempt at someone making the Star Wars MMORPG the fans really need.
At least with the new movies coming up which will undoubtedly make lots of money and with Disney in ownership of the IP, we know money won't really be an issue.
However, Disney's intentions as far as Star Wars video games go are pretty cloudy at the moment.... |

Is ESO turning into what GW2 could have been?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/22/13 3:20:04 PM
GW2 is a great freemium mmorpg, but it's pretty lacking in the narrative design department. Many of the stories are pretty loose and weak, not really pulling players in. Still, it's a fine playground and great for explorers.
TESO is looking far richer in story and game depth as far as character customization goes. If they decide to later add a few sandbox elements, not much, just a few like building your home/decorating it as you want and such... it could really be something special which players will be easily able to connect with and feel like they can carve out a little virtual second life of their own. |

playing mmo`s with your girlfriend
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/21/13 10:48:51 PM
My lady and I are both gamers... and both play MMO's... unfortunately, we tend to like very different games.
She's all about TERA and I'm enjoying GW2 and TSW. I play some TERA with her occasionally but I can never play it for very long before I get sick of it. |

Should GW2 have kept more traditional mmo mechanics?

I wouldn't have bought it if it did... so, it's a NO from me.

One of the finest MMORPG's to date.
It's a shame that it hasn't gotten the credit and traffic it deserves.
The only problem I had with the game was the combat - which I felt very bored with. |

As an explorer, I must say it's the best time in an MMORPG I've ever had.
As a writer, it's servicable much less immersive than I was expecting.
That being said I only have my various characters in their 30's so there's still a lot to go. Either way, whenever I get to play the game I'm having a good time overall so, to me it's a success.
I'm enjoing multiple classes, love the way the combat feels more than any other MMORPG to date... and again, as an explorer, I really really enjoy the game. No matter where I go, there's a visual feast to take in. Wonderful world design.
It's also nice to be put into overflow servers even months after launch (not everywhere, but some cities for sure.) |
