Whoops I'm so sick I totally missed this thread.  Good stuff for posting.

Indeed.  They've even stated they'll be pushing ME2 out before TOR.  I'd say late Q2/Q3 is a decent bet.

I'm fairly certain 'beta' won't be long and by the time they DO go into beta the game will be like 95% complete and they'll just be working a few kinks out.

BioWare doesn't like to share things before they're totally ready...

All BioWare can do is SUPPORT role players with their game design.

Allow plenty of quick emotes, allow charcters to interact with their surroundings [sitting down, acting like they're repairing something while crafting whatever little things], allow casual/social events such as playing mini-games together, gambling, watching NPC races/duels and maybe allow players to place bets on said events... bets wouldn't be placed on player races/duels because it would be too easy to fix the games...

Also allow things like the OUTFIT system and post character creation customization options....

The rest of it however, is up to the community.  Thankfully it seems so far at least that TOR has a very healthy RP community.

Dragon Age = most hyped game in history

I'd have to say Modern Warfare 2... but yeah it's hard to evade Dragon Age hype.  EA sure spent some $ for the marketing...

http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/imperial-agent

This will be the first class fromt he Sith side I will play. I LOVE espionage and this class has some sweet moves.

Just look at the list of pure win:

- ORBITAL bombardments
- Strike from long range with a rifle, or stealfully slide a blade between your target's rib cage
- master the arts of infiltration, seduction, and assassination
- PLACE your own cover for protection/cover fire
- Use environmental cover where available
- Drone droid, possibly with healing technology
- Energy Shield[?]
- Composite armor made to protect well AND allow great movement
- Interface with computers/security terminals [slicing!]
- Stun Enemies with Stun darts before taking them out

<3 Espionage.

I don't think they'll enter BETA until the game is about 95% complete and they're only looking to see server loads and fixing minor bugs.  I highly doubt they would allow people into the game until they feel the game is quite ready - so until then they'll test internally through friends/family.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if actual beta will only last a few short months before the game is absolutely ready to ship.

It's just the way BioWare are... they like to keep things secret, close to the chest, until they're ready to unleash.

I uninstalled the game once I got my first quest: kill 10 wolfs!

I got into beta and decided against it due to... another commitment.  I'm very glad, because I'd have done the same.  I was sick of dumb cheap quests the first time I had to do them :/

The armor looks cool, but... well I dunno, sorta misplaced for a Jedi. Maybe I cling too much to the movies.

It was common for Jedi to wear armor in the ages long before the movies.  By the time the movies were around, the Jedi didn't NEED to be armored up - there were no great galactic wars to be fought.  It's fitting.

I have very happy childhood memories of playing and creating with Lego... I can't help but feel a need to try this game out of nostalgia.

Whoever was in charge of selecting these did a pretty piss-poor job to be honest.

That aside, this game looks like it could be a huge sleeper hit.  I absolutely love the art style and direction of the game... look forward to learning more about it over time as it develops.

no one wants an action game in an mmoRPG

look at what it did to swg all jtls did was allow the damn action twich arcade gamers in and they are the ones who whined to $OE about how swg needed to be more like wow.

oh and hey look at how well a wow star wars has done with the nge.

point is bioware needs to take notes and see what gamers really want.

Plenty of people want an action MMO.  Someday, some gaming company is going to look past all the MMO dinosaurs and make one for us.

Agreed - and I look forward to that brave new MMOworld.  My ideal Star Wars MMO would play something like:

The action of the JEDI KNIGHT series...

The PVP of the BATTLEFRONT series...

The movement, animation quality, environmental interaction and sense of adventure/exploration of the UNCHARTED games...

The character customization of All Points Bulletin...

The space combat of Freelancer/JTL...

The sandboxy elements of SWG/Vanguard...

and finally, the DEPTH of KOTOR games.

MASH that all together into a hybrid monster and you've got one unbeatable SWMMO in my humble opinion :D

::sniffles::  You know...we would make beautiful babies together.    This is why you'll always have a special place in my heart.   Because you think like me in terms of games.

Yum.  hehe

Still looking fun :)

I'm sure I'll probably get flamed for this, but I still think it would have been a lot cooler design for the game if it took 'guilds' to run large ships... if the game leant more towards a 'simulation' feel.  I could be totally wrong... we'll see what Cryptic does.. but after playing Champions Online, I'm not expecting anything revolutionary or even really impressive...

Walkthrough Video - some of the world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLm4poHqjY0&NR=1

I warn you though, combat currently looks very slow and terrible at this stage... at least from the video that I saw.

I'm in the beta for this game and it's pretty fun. Another thing to note though, is that there is no NDA, so any info you want about it can be obtained.

Please tell us about your beta experiences/how the game actually plays from level 1 on and so on :) I donno about anyone else but I'm interested in a breave new world not afraid to skip off the traintracks...

I keep hearing incredible things about this game now - too bad it got off to such a terrible start :(

Game info: http://dawntide.net/info.html

Dawntide is an innovative new freeform MMOG being developed by Working as Intended, an independent studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Dawntide is in the Beta 2 phase of development and we are accepting tester applications at our Beta Center.

Dawntide is designed with one main thought in mind: People play games with different motivations, and want different things out of the games they play. As a consequence, the market for games has developed in a very modularized way: there are games that let you turn your mind off and relax, games that provide different kinds of challenges, games that focus on socialization. Dawntide incorporates all these elements into a game focused around a world in which the players are the driving element and the builders of a new civilization.

Beta Sign Up: http://dawntide.net/beta.html

The game also uses the same engine as OBLIVION / Fallout 3 and seems to focus on 'realism'. - but remember it is in beta.

"From constructing ships and cities to creating a trade empire or fighting in, or perhaps even leading your own army, Dawntide’s features and world provide a large number of opportunities and ways to play an MMO.

Above all, Dawntide is developed with a clear vision of making a fun and enjoyable game. We are committed to making every activity in the game something you primarily do because it is inherently fun and enjoyable, not because you may get a carrot for doing it in the end. People do not play games to endure tedium, they play games to be entertained, and MMORPGs are no exception."

I find the results of this poll really interesting due to the estimate given that the game will be 60% space, 40% ground experience... and the poll shows just about the same numbers for how people want it :) Kinda cool.
