It's a prequel to an MMO coming out, and thusly, it's advertisers are trying to link the two products.

Bingo.

I'm not trying to make fun of you, but the above makes you sound... really lame.  And that's sad because your terribly communicated message may simply be a misguided attempt at trying to warn others about a legitimate concern.

You'll catch more bees with honey than vinegar.  Just saying.

As for Funcom, I'm willing to check out what they can do and respect them just for the fact that they dare to try something different instead of offering another flash in the pan shallow copy of the mediocrity that seems to appeal to the masses so much.

Might have gone a little overboard but.. when people are calling me a liar and saying im full of BS I get upset, and all the links I made shows that Im telling the truth about AOC.. its still buggy, its still crap even 4 years after release... And Im dead tired of these companies trying to just shove it down our throats and expect us to take it...

Here's the thing - I happen to be in the gaming industry (Writer/designer) and I can tell you that with MMO's, there simply isn't enough funding, time or talent in the world to make them 'perfect'.  It's an unfortunate reality that bugs will exist, pretty much no matter what you do.  All a developer can do is tackle the biggest, worst bugs and work from there.

Saying AOC is crap is subjective - a matter of opinion, really.  Personally, I thought the game had incredible potential and still consider the first 20 or so levels to be the finest MMORPG experience I've ever had.  Is it perfect? No.  Could it have been better? Probably.  Did those people work their asses off to make it the best they could under their studios' conditions and directions? I guarantee you they did.

As gamers, it's easy to forget that the people who usually develop these games are gamers themselves and they're people too.  They do care.  A lot.  I can't tell you the amount of passion and sacrafice that goes into developing a game.

That being said, you just can't please everyone and that becomes even more true when the doubled edged sword of hype gets involved - I think that's actually why The Secret World is not seeing a lot of hype right now.

On the corporate side of the gaming industry where I have also worked (as a strategic online marketer/market analyst) I can tell you that at the end of the day, it's all about the $.  Whatever powers may be have the $ call the shots, and no creative director, no senior developer, NO ONE can generally veto the decisions made by the moneymen.

Sadly, a lot of the time this is where the faults of a game can be laid.  Of course, without this side of the business, you wouldn't have the game at all.

At the end of the day, we're all just gamers trying to find what works.  What works for us, works for you, works for everyone involved.  It's not as easy as it sounds.

There is great potential for it.  I look forward to learning more.

Listening to one of the songs, Cypher Agent Cyper, he's actually pretty good.  I know, it's weird...

no joke: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/02/10/full-swtor-themed-hip-hop-album-released/

"If the one thing missing from your life has been music to show the world how much you love Star Wars: The Old Republic, rejoice! Your wait has come to an end. Richie Branson, who put out his first SWTOR-themed song late last year, has released Cold Republic Episode I: The Empire Likes Rap, which has the peculiar honor of being the world's first SWTOR mixtape. Are you a Hutt Ball phenomenon? Are you hot like a pot on the stove that's boilin'? Does it take more than seven men to kill you 'cause you're a tank -- and can you, in point of fact, take that to the bank? This might be just the thing for you!

It's worth noting that the characters represented in the album also tip holo dancers hundred thousand credit bills and stick their missiles in all the ladies' exhaust ports. Your mileage will definitely vary."

This game has AMAZING role playing potential :)

For me, the more avenues of gameplay and exploration in an MMO, the better.  Look at SWTOR's water situation.  Apparently water is only knee to waste deep in the whole universe.  That kind of thing just kills immersion for me in the first place.  If I had my way, these games would have land, sea, air and space gameplay if it made sense.

Ditto.  The more I can interact with the 'world', the better.

Agre of Conan is one of the most atmospheric MMORPG's out there - I just hated bumping into some invisible walls.  If only it could have felt as open as Skyrim...

I remember getting into a dungeon by swimming underwater which led to a tunnel.  Loved the fact that I didn't have to 'use the front door' but found an alternate route.

While GW's Pre-Searing Ascalon, AoC's Tortage and EQ's Greater Faydark are still my top 3 favorites, I have to give honorable mentions to LotrO's The Shire and a number of WoW's starter areas.

Turbine did a great job with The Shire, it really manages to portray the atmosphere and happy living what can be expected from the hobbits' home region. A large part of this is contributed by the amount of sheer fun quests that can be done here. Where else can you have a pie delivery game, or be turned into a chicken and have to fulfill a number of quests like that, or a beer drinking/racing contest? Definitely a memorable area.

And of course, not to forget WoW. I don't know if it was increased by me having played Warcraft 3 extensively. But when I first heard the music swelling when looking upon Stormwind or Ironforge or wandering through the enchanting forests of Teldrassil with the hauntingly beautiful background music there, I really got goosebumps. A lot of those starter areas were really well done and fun in the sheer variety of them.

Agree with all of that :)

For Guild Wars 1... ASCALON, my friends and I loved the area.  Then, post-searing, we just felt like 'blegh we don't wanna be here anymore'.  I recall actually making a new character just to play in pre-searing Ascalon again.

HACKS, or EXPLOINTS?

Are there players taking advantage of what's actually in game, or are some people actually 'hacking' the game by external means.

I'd like to see a video of these hacks.

AOC Tortage - Is by far the best starting area I have played.  Unfortunalty it did not reflect the rest of the game and I didnt even make it to max level.

Absolutely agree.

The starting area in AOC, was from start to finish, superb.  I especially loved the mission where you have to sneak into an enemy area, climb up onto a rooftob to spy on a conversation between some enemies.

It was just an incredibly well designed experience that actually makes me miss the game every time I think about it.

Not a fan of Diablo either way so, doesn't matter to me.  My money's going to ArenaNet.

I guess time will tell.  Little birds from beta thus far sing a different song.

Keeping an eye on it that's for sure :) but I read today the CCP targeted this year for the release of World of Darkness... hmmm not sure if that's reliable but it could have the potential to take my attention away from TSW.

Either way, I will play GW2 and one MMORPG that I'll sub for... currently it looks like TSW will be that second MMORPG.

When something is FUN, people do it.

Guild Wars 2: Didn't Need $300+ Million.

Personally, I loved it.  It made a big difference for me, bringing me into the game that much more.  It's absolutely one of the PRO's of the game.

Good luck with your little supernatural-modern-world title CCP. Meanwhile I will be playing these first-to-market games. We'll see if your late offering will draw me away from them.

The Secret World

Unveiled: The Supernatural

Little?

It's based on a tabletop rpg game by White Wolf - quite popular actually... with conventions and such... so yeah.  I think they just might do fine with their already established audience for World of Darkness.

It's a themepark. It will cater to people who like themeparks. They're not going to change the game's focus to suit you.

Precisely, which is why I am not a paying customer nor am I a fan of their design philosophies for what makes for a great STAR WARS mmorpg.  But to all those enjoying the game - have at it :)
