FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows Installation Issues

We have become aware that some users may be experiencing difficulties installing FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows. If you experience such problems, please try the following:

- If your computer has another CD-ROM drive, try installing using that drive instead.

- Make sure the drivers of your CD-ROM drive are up to date. Updates should be available from the manufacturer's website.

- Make sure the firmware of your CD-ROM drive is up to date. Updates should be available from the manufacturer's website.

- If you have extra space on your hard disk drive, try copying the files from FINAL FANTASY XI Discs 1, 2, and 3 into a folder on your hard drive manually, then start installation by double-clicking the "setup.exe" file.

NOTE: Don't forget to install Disc 4 which contains the Rise of the Zilart and then purchase your Content ID!

Remember to register the Rise of the Zilart expansion pack!

The FINAL FANTASY XI: Rise of the Zilart expansion pack is included with your FINAL FANTASY XI package.

To enjoy all the features of the expansion pack, after purchasing a Content ID, you will need to register using the Rise of the Zilart registration code just once. There are no additional fees for registering Rise of the Zilart. Register now and you will be able to explore the additional areas, quests, missions, and jobs!

To register the Rise of the Zilart expansion, please select the following from the FINAL FANTASY XI top page:

FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows Keyboard Configuration

Please remember that FINAL FANTASY XI's key mapping configuration tool works best with the "Compact" setting. This assures that when you use a key that you've mapped the chat box will not come up.

To change your keyboard type from "Standard" to "Compact" please follow these instructions.

Main Menu -> Config -> Misc.2 -> Keyboard Type (select Compact)

You can then use your custom configuration normally.

PlayOnline Viewer Windowed Mode Update

The PlayOnline Viewer now starts in windowed mode as the default setting.

This setting can be changed from within PlayOnline Viewer Config. To access it, select:
Start -> Programs -> PlayOnline -> PlayOnline Viewer -> PlayOnline Viewer Config

Also, "Configuring the PlayOnline Viewer" on page 16 of the PlayOnline for Windows instruction manual has been updated accordingly as follows:

(Default: disabled)

Registration codes contain 20 alphanumeric characters. All registration codes are case-sensitive.

Registration codes are required to register for PlayOnline and every time you purchase a Content ID.

Since we are unable to reissue registration codes, you will have to purchase a new package to purchase additional Content IDs.  If you lose your registration codes, you will be unable to purchase additional Content IDs.

Please remember to keep your registration codes and the above information in a safe place!

The last sentence of Article 7.2 has been amended as follows:

"If you believe that your copyright has been infringed through the use of a PlayOnline account, please contact the PlayOnline Information Center."

Regarding World Passes

This guide is about the "World Passes" that exist within the realm of Vana'diel.  Please read the following carefully as it explains what the World Pass is about.

#What is a World Pass?

  Using a World Pass allows a user to choose what world his/her character will exist in at creation.
 
  *However, this does not grant the ability to move an existing character to another world.

#How to acquire a World Pass

   You can acquire a World Pass from certain NPCs within the game. Which NPCs and how much the World Pass costs is up to you, the player, to find out.

#Things to watch for when using a World Pass:

   You may create up to five characters using one World Pass.

   You have one week to use the World Pass after recieving it. After one week has passed the World Pass expires and becomes invalid.

   You cannot get multiple World Passes in succession. After acquring one World Pass, you must wait one week (in real time) until you can obtain another one.

   If the character that acquired the World Pass is deleted, that World Pass will become invalid.

The PlayOnline Viewer's GM Call service has not started.  We will notify you once this service begins.

You can still call a GM from within FINAL FANTASY XI, but please check the Q&A database first to see whether your question is already answered there.  The Q&A database is available from both the PlayOnline Viewer and the official FINAL FANTASY XI web site. If you still cannot find an answer to your question, please feel free to request a GM's assistance during gameplay.

We ask that you do not use GM Call for any of the following:

- Ideas and suggestions
- License agreement issues
- Issues you encounter before logging into PlayOnline
- Previously reported issues (including scheduled maintenance)

Instead, please use the designated mail forms or contact the PlayOnline Information Center about such matters.

Trick or Treat!!

Lately, it seems as if the inhabitants of San d'Oria, Bastok and Windurst have been planning something a little different during this year's harvest festival for the children and adventurers of these lands.

It'll be a time to scare the pants off people--and to snag more treats than the next person. That's what Vana'diel Halloween is all about!

Some children may masquerade as skeletons, while others may appear as ghosts from Elvaan past. There are many ways to get treats from fellow adventurers, but it's up to you to figure out the best way!

Halloween is nearing, so all you adventurers get out there and start cooking up your most delectable treats!

  10/30 8:00(PST) to 11/2 20:00(PST)

  -This festival will take place across the three
   countries of San d'Oria, Windurst, and Bastok.
   Walk around town and look for townsfolk who

  -If you happen to run into one of these townsfolk,
   don't forget to give him or her a treat! But don't
   give out the same treat over and over again to
   the same person--how would you feel if you
   received a sack with only licorice in it? Rather,
   enjoy the different costumes and give your treats
   out to as many people as possible!
