I tried to positive spit it and claim the launch is tommorow. Maybe the population will go up 4 fold tomorrow and everything will go well.   If launch was friday it didn't do so well.

TBH I hope more MMOs come out with modern or future settings. It is popular, look at COD:Modern warfare an FPS that has an MMORPG leveling system.

I'm playing vampire masquerade as my RPG right now which is modern, and spending most my time in games I fly out to a tourny in 3 days for and expect to get WTF pawned in ( guess the tourny?). so I'm not a fan or hater, I just want to know why?

After my experince with SWTOR i really don't care for large numbers anymore. I would rather have a small and stable community like TSW has right now. The game launched without any major game breaking issues, if that is not a good launch then what is?

ANothe sad attempy by GW2 fan to desperately put TSW under bad light.

Promo code for 5% off with new account. I got it, key works, saved 15 bucks and got early access with the pet dog. Got the key within 3 hours.

I don't care if you think this is legit or not - it is. I just thought it would be nice to provide this to people who are looking to play the game but are hurtting a tad on money.

Hope to see you in game.

Thanks for the link, grabbed one copy for my wife.

Guess what ... It only cost's money if you want it to.

I play LotRO and use the ingame TP I earn to pay for everything.  I've played DDO for a couple of years now and put a wopping $20.00 into it (just in case you don't want to do the math that comes out to .83cents a month).  Haven't put any money into AoC, PotBS or STO and I've had loads of fun in all those games.

Would I still play if they were P2p?  Some of them yes, others no.

Bottom line, if you just have to have that brand new shiney that just came out to make your game play enjoyable .... go for it.  Me?  No thanks.

Not all F2P MMOS work on same basis as LOTRO and DDO but even then best deal is to stick to monthly sub for F2P titles. F2P is just a gimmick and ends up hurting your pocket even more.

I love puzzles and mysteries...who doesn't? ;) like mentioned in article being a part of TSW community i once again feel being part of an adult community which i missed since days of SWG.

Like all MMO's released in the recent years, it is fun for a month, maybe 2 until the "New game smell" wears off. The game has no lasting appeal for a few very obvious reasons.

1. It's full of anoying bugs that have been reported (by me in closed) and are still in game. Even the very first mission selecting your class is still bugged and you need to remake your character if you screw it up.

2. Combat system is bad. This should have been an FPS MMO not this weird twitch-rush gameplay.

3. Veterans/No-Lifers will have "Supersoldiers" in a Month or two with all skills and best armor/weapons. PvP becomes a pain in the ass for everyone.

4. Item Store + Subscription is not a big deal as long as it is restricted to cosmetic items. But offering cosmetic items that are disgustingly ugly like they do right now is nto going to get them a lot of customers. Seriously, you should see the shit they offer there, it's like a used clothes store from the 70's.

Worth to get for $35 with one month free gametime (check the internet you already find it at that price). After that, let it die slowly like the rest of funcoms attempts at a successful MMO.

I do play myself since i am bored and i am having fun running through it with a few friends. But we all did not subscribe after the free 30 days.

Sorry but comment about combat is your own preference on playstyle and as far as bugs are concerned todays patch fixed the starting area and all broken quests in Kingsmouth (i came across  2 quests in total that didn't work). I have moved to Blue Mountain now and bugs are minimal at this point.

So all though there could be many other reasons that TSW might not have lasting appeal but i doubt it would be because of lack of FPS style or because there are bugs in a newly launched MMO which are being fixed on daily basis and are not even that much to begin with ...that it hinders your character progression. Unless bugs are game breaking which they are not i wouldn't worry about it having effect on lasting appeal of TSW or just any newly released MMO.

I have to say I've been jumping in SWTOR hype train and Diablo3 to join friends and those games turned out being so damn boring... Also I had no hope at all for TSW but bought it after they announced GW2 on August 28th (2 month to kill).

Thing is, I cannot log out of it and go to bed before 6 AM (yeah GF has been mad last two days lol !)... game is really amazing even if I'm more into Fantasy MMORPGs I'm really liking the game so far.

There is a smart forum post about this : http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=37140

So now I am worried, I didn't play GW2 much yet... only 4 hours during a stress test... and game has a HUGE hype behind it, should I just avoid it because overhyped games seems to turn out boring ? (Overhyped as in "a lot of people rant about it"... not as in "the game shouldn't get this attention")

Your thoughts ? :p

Edit: "overhyped games seems to turn out boring"... I pretty much meant that I get disapointed at all those overhyped games lately... and I had to follow the hype train because I had no time or no beta invitation to try it out before it comes out... I am not trying to say that MMOs are meant to last forever and not to become boring at some point... that's just my bad english getting you away from my point, sorry !

Let's start with the title. TSW = no hype really? First of all, just because it wasn't as advertised as other games doesn't mean there wasn't a hype train behind it. There are almost as many "features list" "we're different look at us" "dev interviews about what makes their game great" on TSW as any other game out there. And I am one who usually avoids the Hype subject because it's vapor it doesn't exist and is low brow.

Hype by definition is how the developer rants about the game not how the community revieves it and is not necessarily factual. That doesn't apply to this game as A: everything they promised is in there in regards to features gameplay fun factor elements B: the devs have only hyped about WHY they made this game the way it is, not the game itself. and C: the facts about how this game is right now outweigh anything a single post in a forum can throw at it . Already we are seeing how this game's design will affect the whole industry, through the players. Player A is playing another game (usually themepark with a monthly sub) goes and plays to BWE and his eyes and world are opened, he goes back after the BWE to find his other game boring because of it's lack of modern programming and begins posting like so many other in the forums of the devs of said game demanding features and updates.

Just look at the signature, that's how hype as a word should be received, and gaga babble an unworthy topic and a word that's overused for everything that people think won't be good in game forums. "Ermahgerd! it's been advertised exactly as is and everything they said was in the game is in it, it's overhyped! GASP." No no it's not overhyped, they just lived up to their promises at Arenanet.

Not to mention the flawed logic of just becuase a game dev doesn't spend as much on advertising as another, the game will automagically be better.

Hey take it easy now..FC should have just made a manifesto video and gave a statement like 'we want to beat WOW in sales and popularity' to forbes. That is how it is done.

FC don't know how to create hype. Stupid FC!!!

A well written review but this is so very, very wrong:

Some of this can be worked around by getting invited to a server/dimension where it is working but FAR to many story quests are bugged. 50% at least. Many were not available in public or closed beta or did work in beta or didn't work in beta as well. Shoddy workmanship.

At least 95% of the quests are working as intended, three in Kingsmouth don't work as intended, two of those three quests work fine on other servers but for some reason on Arcadia they are spawning either multiple clickable mobs or too many people are bugging them, which shows poor design on the part of Funcom but saying 50% aren't working is a blatant lie. That in itself almost made me rubbish the rest of your review and stop reading.

Good review sfc, but I agree with evil geek. I would avoid numbers without proof, or state that it is a guess or opinion. My biggest gripe with the game is the price+sub+cash shop. After AoC and AO I feel Funcom just want to milk the early adopters before going f2p. I also wonder about the longevity of this game after havinglayed swtor (in regards to story questing). Still is fun for now though! Cheers!

I've found a few bugged quests myself. Men in Black Vans is obviously bugged as the GM didn't even ask and completed it for me. It seems a few of the others bug out. I think the community is an intergral part of an MMO and this whole "the quest isn't bugged you are just stupid" part of the community really makes the game look bad.

And  hitting reply button without reading properly makes you look bad.

If you read the post that you quoted. No one is denying that quests are not broken. I came across total of two broken quests in Kingsmouth and one more in savage coast. There is difference between coming across 3 to 4 broken quests and claiming 50% quests are broken.

No one is calling OP stupid though...but the statement that '50% quests are broken ' is just a lie.

Not a bad summary, but i see this running into the same problem with as past "Trinity" based  games...

Person will get frustrated of LFG, and will find it a hassel becuase depending on the time you play that determines how quick you get a group..

For the love of GoD, why can't dev's learn that the "Trinity" system is broken and a hassel... These guys know all the group instances in the game and yet they still release a game with a simple LFG TOOL.. Its not hard to implement if you got smart programmers..

I get they want person to communicate in CHAT Channel somewhat, but knowing the mmo crowd nowadays and they being so fragile, not putting in simple features can make or break your game and cause person to quit in droves..

This game has great potential, but the exection didn't totally come together, i just get the feeling the released it to beat GW2 and MISTS to the market so they can re-coup some of the costs...

By all and all i hope they don't need a large sub base to stay open, because for me i'm up to QL5 gear and i'm finding it hard to even think of re-rolling a char,  this game just don't seem to have a high replay value...

TSW was never a MMO designed for rolling alts. It is about about one characters and unlocking all skills and coming up with various builds  which is going to take a very very long time.

I give it GREAT. I came across couple of broken quests and one bug where i got stuck. otherwise smooth sailing and nothing major that stopped me from enjoying the game.

Bravo FC, you pulled an almost flawless launch.

I see that 2,3% that voted are trolls... If this was a "very bad" launch then do tell me what a good launch is. Thank GOD its still a low number and the reasonable votes that lead. I voted good myself.

Die hard FC haters who would never ever accept that FC did a great launch. They wanted it to crash and burn badly just like AO and AOC launch. So this is there way of showing anger.

Yes you have the right to your opinion and in my opinion you are wrong when you say 'TSW isn't a MMO'. Also, how can anyone in their right mind say TSW is closer to original GW in design? come on seriously? there is nothing similar between GW and TSW in terms of gameplay or instancing.

I also disagree about your views on crafting. I enjoy it because it is nothing like WOW / RIFT. Which is a plus for me and something different from your standard MMO crafting.

After the major debacle of 1.2 and the lackluster offerings of 1.3, I have made a decision. If nothing gets majorly broken by thr time 1.5 comes, I will come back to the game. My main issue continues to be the slow and anemic improvement of the game, so I figure, just on a hunch, that by patch 1.5 the game might deliver the game ob a level I would be happy with. If the game goes buy to play (like single player games are), I will cime back sooner. If the game goes F2P, I may not come back at all. I view F2P as a short-lived endeavor that gives games new life for a time, but kills the fun when they raise prices (see DDO Underdark, Champions Online, Age of Conan.) Anyway, thanks for reading my rambling post. My question is, are any of you taking a wait-and- see approach as well?
For me, I think the very core of the game's design is broken beyond repair. Total lack of customer respect and broken promises on the few they have made, along with the game is just fundamentally bad gives me little to no hope. My wait and see approach is hoping they do the humane thing and put it out of it's misery and some other company that actually cares about it's products and customers pick up the IP and make a game deserving the name Star Wars.

Regarding your signature....Repopulation is a SWG clone.

/chuckles

My signature? Clone? You not read what my sig says? It says "this is a clone free environment". Now if you will, click on my sig and do a little research and tell me where the cloning is. You'll find some simularities to SWG and that is on purpose but not a clone at all. Come back and reply to me when you find the cloning in case I need to rewrite my sig.

/chuckles? Like you think your insulting me bring up SWG. The very fact The Repopulation is bring back some sandbox has me doing /halleluyah.

Why so defensive bro? you think you are the only one following repopulation? and yes it is SWG clone thatis why i found your signature very ironic.

Also do some research about Archage, it is not just Repopulation that is bringing back sandbox. And what does 'bringing back' even means? sandboxes didn't go out of development and we had some recent release. Now if they were not to your liking that is another issue.

Should The Repopulation be the first to introduce a warning label or a window informing every visitor that this is a Sandbox MMO, to include the definition of a Sandbox? A definition that is bold in explaining how complex and demanding the game will/could be?

The competitors know that there’s a trickle-down effect whenever they post rhetoric threads in sites like MMORPG. IMO, The Repopulation doesn’t need that sh#t. Rhetoric all you want but the company should make it clear that reward in this game is the outcome of your personal actions and sometimes conduct. Personal responsibility, free markets, individual liberty, traditional values built by your guild (government).

These days, sandbox games are meant for the minority of the MMO community. That community is currently in exodus, waiting for someone to tell them to come home to the promise land. The last of the Mohicans (if you will). Sounds funny but it’s the freaking truth.

After SWTOR, take a good look at what’s about to unravel. Totalitarianism MMO companies such as Blizzard, EA (Bioware), Trion, are paying close attention to how the community is fixing their curiosity crosshairs on sandbox.
Are you ready to witness the definition of sandbox become contaminated?

Ever heard about Archage? Repopulation is not all that special that it needs warning signs.

Considering how well FOM is doing and is such a profitable venture, they have the right to ban players with slow internet connection.

When you are on the top you can do anything you want.

You know what is satire? or sarcasm?

Worth Subscribing?  For me, the answer is no.

Because it's once again (hello swtor) single player rpg with mediocre story line, awful combat and terrible/boring quests.

The MMO part doesn't show anywhere, except for fighting over quest mobs/items and general chat.

i am sory but  we talking about TSW  not GW2

Well TSW, to me is a single player game and not a very good one.

Give me Rift, Tera or, GW2 any day over TSW.

It is a single player game because you like to play it like one. Just how people complain that Rift and Tera are single players too. Infact players complaing about every single MMO these days that it is a single player game. Is it games fault ? nope.

Don't expect developers to hold ur hand and push you towards grouping, those days are gone. Blame your own play style and lack of inititaive to group with others.

With Rift, especially with the Zone events, you can't play single player. And no I don't like single player games, I prefer MMO's but this game is just like TOR - no reason to group unless you are at a dungeon.

So don't tell me what I like or do because it is obvious you don't understand. TSW FEELS like an Single Player Game. The controls feel like a console game. I don't have a console so why would I like those controls?

I can not solo zone events in Rift but i can continue to ignore it and solo? yes? just like in any other MMO in TSW too you can solo by avoiding hard content and just focusing on the easier part.

Like i said before you want to play it like single player doesn't mean it is a single player MMO. I perfectly understand. And what has console controls got anything to do with our discussion?

I think you have it backwards.

Back in the day you had a lot of content that was too hard to solo, and finding a group required footwork and personal commitment. Nowadays everything is soloable, and the little group-content there is has an LFD tool and is *totally* hand-holding.

Depends to what extent you can solo. Old games forced you into grouping by putting artifical road blocks in progression.

These days devs give you an option, and yes options are good. For example i have been playing with my brother sicne headstart. Even though kingsmouth being a starting area u don't need to group, once in savage coast and beyond, grouping is much better option as i couldn't just mindlessly blow my way through progression. Soloing is slower and harder later on but doable, while some other missions and areas are just hopeless for soloers.

A good MMO is the one which gives its players options to level in manner they like. I can pretty much solo in GW2 all the way till level cap, but i choose not to and play with others. But is anything stopping me from soloing and hit lvl 80? nope.

TSW sounds interesting to me and a lot of people seem to really like it.  I liked SWTOR but only played for about 45 days then got burned out...rolled a ton of alts and never finished any of their story lines.
Trying to decide if I should just take a flier on TSW, give SWTOR another go...or my other option which was my original plan, was to take all of July off from gaming to get caught up on my pleasure reading.  Just picked up The Covenant by James Michener at the library yesterday.

I play TSW and read books too, it is quite possible to do the same. Currently i am trying to finish all books by Paulo Coelho. Currently reading The winner of solitude.

One of the advantage of being in a guild. Doesn't matter if there is LFG tool or not. I would suggest till something like that makes into the game find a good cabal. I see so many people advertising for it . Grab one and play with guildies.
