All I keep thinking is that this game will be a late 2016 release. I'm in the Landmark Beta and I'm just hedging my bets that Next is way down the line.

Plus I'm still putting money aside for a new rig so I definitely want Next to be later than sooner.

If an mmo doesn't sell 2million box sales on this site it's a failure.

some call xbox one selling over 5 million units a failure.

Some call an mmo with 500k subs a failure.

Based on all that not ready to call Oculus catching on fire selling 15k less from first to second is usually NOT a good sign.

plus based on the complaint they may be a little light on the wallet soon.  A clear sign is why one poster in particular continues to post on ESO and bashes Zenimax even though he has admitted to not playing eso and not knowing anything about Zenimax

He's a little scared that Oculus shadiness is going to come out.  I mean there already is the taking millions from kickstarter and turning around and selling it for a couple billion,  now that pissed off a lot of people already.  Combine that with the lawsuit they are not starting off very well with most gamers.

Put this into context, it's a dev kit, bare bones. Retail versions are not on the shelves, there is no advertising campaign on TV and yet the bare bones package sold a great deal from it's kick starter.

Lets judge it once it goes retail, when games companies start pushing out games that highlight "We use the latest Oculus Rift headset".

I'm waiting on a retail version, the final polished product and I know of many other gaming friends who are doing the same thing as me, waiting.

I think I will suggest that the players might be a reason we don't see change or progress. What I have found is that if you ask a mmo player what they would like to see in a new mmo, they will give you a list of ideas from other mmos with the add on of for real or better this time. You almost never see a full on fresh idea talked about.

There was a simpsons episode a few years ago, homer gets to meet and work with his long lost brother who happens to own a car company. Homer is given the chance to make the car he always wanted.

The end result saw his brother lose his company due to the car being a total pile of crap, it was what Homer wanted in a car but no one else.

I know MMO's have innovated since the MUD's and the first 2d MMO Ultima Online and the 3d MMO's of Meridan 59 and Everquest 1.

I have seen games that have tried to change the formulae of how you should play (Ryzom comes to mind) yet they have largely failed to become market success stories.

If we go back in time games such as The Secret World would have been a dream concept, an MMO built around a solid storyline, with a skill set that was designed to cater to any type of player, with VO's that are equal to anything Hollywood has to offer, ofc not everyone will like this MMO, but it bloody well innovated the genre, it moved it along and produced a truly unique MMO experience.

Games that have tried to be truly unique within the MMO genre have suffered, in general ppl want something familar, so they can drop their current MMO and dive straight into the new shiny one without too much hassle, if the learning curve is too steep it's back to to the old MMO in a heartbeat.

Ofc I'm speaking generally, I want something that is truly ground breaking, and I have been fortunate enough to step into those games every few years, there has always been something around the corner that has just been different enough to get my teeth into, if the MMO genre really had stagnated I don't think we would have seen the hundreds of MMO's that are currently live right now.

I think we have a winner here.

Though I prefer "realistic" art design, I don't understand how people can denigrate styleized graphics, insinuating they are "for kids" and still play video games pretending to be an Elf, an Orc, a Mage or "Space Man spiff".

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that date:

"Wait, you play video games?"

"it's ok, I only play the games that have realistic graphics. My character is a Dark elf Shadow Knight and let me tell you all about it!!!!

Here here.

They are persistent...

Yes I've had the same arena invites, I'm hoping there will be a grp setting we can turn off, just as we can turn off duel invites etc. It's not game destroying but just a slight irritation.

I was getting the mails and deleting, that was at the begining of the week, today (Friday 13th!!) I have logged on and found that neither of my created characters have recieved any gold seller mails, normally I would get about 2 per day.

No idea if Carbine have done something, but I was getting a second delete box when deleting my mails, a bug? or something thats been added, who knows, all I know is today I recieved no gold seller spam.

Also who in their right mind would use the gold sellers at the prices they are using, when it would be better and cheaper to buy a Credd and sell that for over 3 plat (On my server Zhur thats the current price, give or take a few gold), the gold sellers are pricing themselves out of the market already.

The one thing that bothers me is just how much the media is pushing Wildstar.  For what it is, Wildstar is great, but it definitely isn't some second coming that the media make it out to be.

I have yet to see an advert on my TV for Wildstar, I do not see any adverts on my msn homepage for WS, infact I have seen very little in the way sites pushing this game out there.

This site pushes the FOTM games when they release, they always have they always will, so other than this site (and tbh it's hardly in your face) I can't think of a gaming site where the ads have "bothered" me.

Can't agree it does player housing better than any other MMO, SWG still takes this crown with ease for me.

TBH SWG tops most of those categories for me except combat, that would probably be AOC.

After having the chance recently of going back to SWG ( I can't mention how as I got a warning last time, but if your a die hard SWG vet you'll have already found out how ) I can say that it was just not the same anymore, after a couple of days I was glad to eventually put this game to rest.

Wildstar is a breath of fresh air, I can't comment on the endgame aspect, but what I have experienced so far has me clamouring for more each time I log in. For a newly released MMO this game has more content/features than many mature MMO's.

I just hope they don't drop the ball, and that new content/features/bug fixes are in plentiful supply.

One downside is that I'm a founder for Landmark, the game has taken a major backseat now, and it just feels so empty now that I've been playing a game that is just packed to the rafters with things to do, what will my view be of EQ Next when that eventually arrives, will I have been spoilt by Wildstar and expect all future MMO's to be as packed as this one is.

I've played both those parts of the MMO's you mentioned, they play NOTHING like the Adventures in Wildstar.

However you are quite right that those 2 MMO's both have a similar mechanic.

When I first did the Void Prison breakout simulation I thought it was a dungeon, it felt like one, looked like one, played like one, rewarded like one, but it wasn one. I had to scratch my head when my guildees kept saying "They start at lvl 20"  and here I was at 15 inside what I would have deemed to be a dungeon.

Damn good feature, certainly adds alot more content to the game, and if the one I have so far entered is a sign of things to come, then keep em coming.

I beta tested this game for a long time and there were things that just really annoyed me.  Mostly little things but still drove me insane and made me not want to play.  I didn't buy the game but my friend gave me one of his trial keys and I rolled a new toon.

The god damn chat screen font size is still broken!!!!! I click small, nothing, medium, nothing, large, NOTHING! I play on a big ass television with the UI scale turned completely down because the UI is hideous and takes up most of the screen even at max resolution.  But then I can't read the damn chat box because for some freakin reason Carbine thought it wasn't necessary to add separate scale sliders for different parts of the UI.

So I go to turn up the font size on my chat so I can actually read it without having my face pressed against the TV and the fucking thing is still broken from beta.  Made me want to instantly smash my face through a wall.  Not only that but every nameplate in the game is also attached to the UI Scale so every mob and every player's name is about the size of a grain of sand.

So I turn the UI Scale up to see it then the god damn ugly ass action bar eats half the screen.  Turn it to On in Combat Only and it's cool then I fight something and the screen explodes.  Raining fury all over my mind!

You said it already "the little things" an educated guess would be that the more important game breaking issues are being addressed first, and then maybe just maybe the smaller less urgent problems will get seen to in time.

However we all know what happens to those bug lists, they get longer and the smaller issues get pushed down the list each patch, it just needs the playerbase to keep Carbines eye on the ball and for us to keep reminding them what bugs are still to be squashed, even if it seems like there isn't anything being done, we all know fully well just how much effort goes into making an MMO, and a good solid one takes even more effort to make sure things are fixed, without causing further issues in the meantime.

I used to play on a 40" LED TV, and I understand your problem, then again my son came back from UNI and wanted his TV back so I had to get myself something, ended up with a 29" ultra widescreen monitor, does a lovely  job.

poor service, crashes, DCs and everything you don't want to see in a game.

they keep making new pvp servers and try to pull players by force to them.

new f2p game comming soon

There where queue's, so they opened new servers to accomodate the influx of players, my guild friends decided to move after hitting queue's on the first day and we have not had any issues since then. With a lvl 2 character at the time I don't think me moving server was an issue at all.

As for poor service, crashes, DC's etc I've no idea you PC setup but I've not had those problems, nor have my guild friends, I'd suggest looking at your own setup to see if there is an issue.

Also I saw no player being forced to switch servers, there was no message telling me "You are being forcibly moved to another server".

Such disgrace and Below are some of them. Also you can read what players had to say about it and are still voicing opinions on it, of course no one from SOE wants to talk about it .

I'm here now cause of boredom of mmos im playing and if you found your happiness shouldn't you be there playing?

If you spend all your time playing a game, don't you think you may just end up in your position, bored. No matter how fun a game is you need to do something else from time to time, too much of a good thing can easily spoil the experience.

Regardless of how many times I've gotten burned, I've always been willing to give every new MMO a decent shot at launch.

While I've gone into many MMO's with unrealistic expectations, over the years I've learned that most games will probably only give me a couple of weeks of enjoyment before I go back to my normal rotation, and I'm OK with that.

But for the first time in many years, I'm not buying an MMO at launch and may pass on it altogether, which begs the question:   Did Carbine do a poor job of marketing Wildstar or have I finally become immune to hype trains?

I've always paid little heed to the Hype train, I tend to gravitate to the MMO's my guild friends are playing (other than WoW which for many of them is still there go to game) and we will advertise it amongst ourselves to gain support from those less likely to move about MMO's.

However I have on many occassions been very reluctant to pre-purchase an MMO, but normally on the day of release I find I am scrambling about the various internet game stores looking for the cheapest copy to DL, because I think I'm missing out, or suddenly a contingent of guildees are suddenly announcing they are in the game, and having a blast without me.

Now I drink only on the odd occassion, I do not smoke or take drugs, I don't have any expensive hobbies that suck up my cash, and MMO's are not being released every week or month of the year, so by my reckoning if I was to purchase each of these new games I'd still be a cheap date.

I'm closing in on the wrong side of the 40's now, I used to think games couldn't get me excited, but the strange thing is, everytime my guild friends get interested in the same game as me my excitement lvls raise, I am anticipating the laughs and the mishaps we will undoubtedly have in this new game.

I believe Carbine have been doing a decent job of pusing their game, perhaps it's just the age thing, perhaps your a lone player moving from game to game, but at the end of the day this hobby we have isn't going to break the bank, so why not buy it, enjoy it for what it is and when it's time to move on you would probably have gotten your moneys worth.

If a shoddy made game can be huge it just sends a bad message to investors.

I thought investors are after profits, so wouldn't a huge game infact draw in more investors. I know this is going off topic but nearly all non crowd funding investors are not game players, so it matters nothing to them what the game offers, just that it makes money, isn't this the driving force for many MMO companies these days, Profits.

Well you could use an ad blocker, but it's a bit of bad form to do so.

I would disagree-

Its bad form to have flashing ads popping up on me- I still see Ads (been looking at Neverwinter for a few days on the main area) but I am not swamped with them.

Any site that makes me remove my adblocker is a site I will never use. I am here creating content for this forum which is my freely given time which adds to the overall discussion of the site and brings more people. Tose of us who discuss things, debate things and converse (even troll and fanboy like crazy) are doing our part and are the reasonpeople come here as opposed to ads or articles.

Let the lurkers be overrun with ads. I am doing my part imho.

Sorry, but that is one batshit crazy of an answer!

Websites are not beholden to the traffic that use the forums, it is a platform which allows us, the community to band together and talk about what we love. As such these features cost money, money that the website gains from ad revenue. So, by all means talk and engage on the forums all you like, you are NOT doing your part to support the channel, in reality you are taking up resources and bandwidth which is harming the site. I mean c'mon, how much of a nusiance is it to you to look at a freaking ad. Its not like IGN who have a 4 min ad in front of a 1 min video or anything.

I am producing content for free.

Content that draws other users especially those who disagree with my points.

Absent of content (i.e. Forums) all you have left is reviews, articles and ad. IF thats enough to keep a site like this going that is great-   can discuss things many, many places on the free internet- I choose to use because of the posters here (not the articles and reviews and ads) and others are the same. Without the posters, I wouldnt be here.

Batshit Crazy? Dude, I knwow someone who runs a website far smaller this this one and makes plently of money (enough to make it a ful time job) a websiter as popular as this one is doing okay I am sure and mainly this is due to the discussion coming from other posters creating content for free.

If intrusive ads were not the norm- I would not use ABP. But I do. If you do not- Good for you. I think YOU are batshit crazy for not running ABP which actually secures your system .

If you wish to truly contribute to this site, BUY something from the ads, your post count won't help to pay any website bills, only the cash in your pocket will do that.

Next one will be "I love everything about Wildstar, but I can't get over the grass in the hills being cut at 6cm instead of 10cm. What made them take the decission of cutting it 4cm too short?!!?!".

I love the way you can tell a class by the weapon they're wielding, which by the way, will be the only way to tell which class is which at some point, since you can fully customise your armour to even look like another armour type. (For example, warriors can make their armour look like cloth, and Espers can make their armour look like plate).

But I guess that is not awesome enough to mention. Let's whine instead about having to wield the same type of weapon, because, oh my god, that is so damn game-breaking.

it actually is to me, and what you added is also something I hate.  I hate dressing room armor appearances

And yet you want dressing room weapon choices!

I thought everyone who was interested in Next would have put 2 and 2 together and figured out that Landmark was going to be the testing ground for Next.

pve = themepark

sandbox pve games dont make any sense - at least not until we have a much better developped ai...

and there are MORE than enough themepark pve mmo's that have all the bells and whistles you could be looking for - gameplay for YEARS...

its time for some player driven sand box games, and player driven means player ruling, player politics, player wars

Your quite right, there are absolutely bucket loads of themepark MMO's catering to PvE players, while PvP games are few and far between.

So the question is "Why are there so few PVP games to choose from?" and why are games such as Mortal Online and Darkfall so poorly populated if they are already offering PVP players what they want ie full loot OW PVP action.

I remember how these forums where ablaze before Darkfall and Mortal went live, how these games where the answer to hardcore PVP players prayers.

I'm a PvE player at heart, yet I absolutely love taking part in OW PVP when it's been done right and done well, where I'm not going to be the main course at a gank fest, but be involved in tactical warfare with a real fighting chance at being able to defeat my opponent through skill, not at how much higher in lvl I am to them.

I've watched my grown son of 22 play WoW on a PvP server, seen him take his max lvl hunter and gank at many lowbies as possible, the whole time laughing like a mad man, I usually switch my router off when he tries to make a run for it when they bring their mains on, and it's my turn to have a laugh when he logs back into a corpse and is corpse camped. This to me is your typical PvP player, pick on the weak, and run like hell when you have a chance at facing an opponent of equal measure.

So while the PvP players complain about the lack of PvP MMO's out there, can you really blame developers for not wanting to actually make any, when the few PvP MMO's available are home to tumbleweeds and crickets, how could you possibly make any money from an empty game.

This is repeated constantly in every discussion about ow pvp, so i want to make a specific thread to discuss that question.

Is really true that there isn't enough fans of ow pvp in the world to sustain and give profit to a big budget MMO?

is there any evidence to that statement?

This is probably a very controversial answer but if a developer created an MMO around religous beliefs you would find plenty of OW PvP happening.

I look at the real world and I draw a conclusion that there is a wealth of PvP players out there, they just aren't playing MMO's right now.
