Anyone disappointed that Inferno has (apparently)been beaten?
General Discussion « Diablo 3 5/21/12 9:38:03 AM
Originally posted by LazerChicken I don't think that most players in hardcore would make it past Act 1 in hardcore. Unless they are barbs or monks. The game is pretty difficult at these stages. I'm stuck half way into softcore act 2 hell because I can't find a good composition to finish it. Running through the game with my friends was fun. They were rolling a barb and a witch doctor, but after the repetitiveness and the difficulty shooting up the way it did they all got dettered. I'm still going on strong. Also, I find it hard to believe that inferno was beaten. |

Once you get passed the free trial The armor in this game is pretty bad ass. I do not agree with the OP. |

I don't think that innovation and MMORPGS should be used in the same sentence. As far as the genre goes I think everything has been done, because when you look at it the genre itself is limited and has been taken as far as it could possibly go without getting ridicilous (cutscenes *cough). It will always be you leveling up a character to get stronger and better skill/gear. For those that like to pvp there will always be a little or a lot of pvp thrown into the mix. For those who like to PVE there will be end game groups that consist of 10+ players that work together to clear a really hard dungeon. With all of that there will also be stuff like mounts, professions, player housing and other assorted PVE/PVP events.
This i just my opinion though, I strongly feel that using the word INNOVATION to describe an MMORPG is like apples to oranges, but a good way to describe an MMORPG would be POLISH. |

I woul be careful because if you do decide to subscribe and then somewhere down the road of... hm, say a free month, the unsubscribe button might conveniently disappear depending on what web browser you are using.... |

The servers might be full or heavy but there is no doubt that a lot of people canceled their subs because the game frankly just sucks. |

Rift: Server Changes Confirmed & Clarified
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/15/12 11:36:48 AM
I don't think trion is being dishonest about anything. If there were server mergers they wouldn't be able to spin it any way. What I don't understand about this community is that mostly everyone LOVES, simply LOVES to bash games without actually knowing the whole scoop. My favorite comments are "F2P by x" but I don't see that as much of a problem. F2P is not the death of a game it's a switch in business model, and believe me people love F2P. So, If trion did decide to go F2P by X their revenue would shoot up because as it stands there is literally nothing to play on the market. And let me now say that what is on the market is going to go F2P by X because that is where the future of MMORPGS appears to be going. People rather download the game and see if it is worth their time and when they get hooked they end up blowing cash on virtual items, it's inevitable. I'm sure someone is going to debate this with me but in my opinion RIFT is a great game, and trion is a great dev company and they are constantly proving it by releasing these new patches. They don't just add dungeons with rehashed boss models, they also add whole new lands for free. They don't just slap some title nex to RIFT, call it an expansion and make you shell out cash like certain devs do because they have already established a player base and are milking them for all they are worth. Trion stands by their product and are trying their best to give their players what they ask for. The only problem I do see is that trion is having to deal with a community that is so critical, judgemental and negative without any real reasoning behind that it that I almost feel that with every offical statement trion makes they should link an achieve before they proceed. |

Originally posted by beeker255 I'm still having a hard time understanding why anyone would think an MMORPG wouldn't play like an MMORPG? The only thing that makes sense is that you are just tired of playing MMORPGs in general. IMO, this game does bring something new and refreshing to the table. However, what is the same and staple for this genre is that people are going to love to hate it while others are going to love it and say that the game is actually refreshing and new, and I can't stop playing it. Until someone lays it on a thread bullet point by bullet point how the game is a clone of other games and makes sense I'm not buying the candy you are trying to sell. |

To the OP, why must you feel the need to bash a perfectly good game? Secondly, you cannot compare TOR to WOW they are simply not in the same league. Say what you want about WOW being amazing but as it stands right now the game is NOTHING but an ILVL farm. Think about it. It's always the same story. Blizzard releases new weapons because it's so much easier to customize swords than light sabers and trooper gear right? To get these weapons and armors you need valor points, but because blizzard is so innovative they decided that in 4.3 they are going to use tokens to allow you to gear yourself. Innovative. How does one gear themselves? By running the same instance 10 or 25 man over and over and over and over again until that token that you want finally drops and you win the roll. INNOVATIVE. But let me ask you. What if you don't have three or four days to put into running these instances? Then what? OH, that's right you have Raid Finder. But wait, if I use raid finder my ILVL gear is lower than the gear I actually get when I raid with a guild? INNOVATIVE and fair. So, I basically run LFR to farm enough ILVL to be effective in real and I do say real 10 or 25 man DS, INNOVATIVE. OH, that's right you can just run the new five man instances that are released before a new raid that helps you use your innovative gear. But let me ask you, what happens when you get it all? OH, you run them over and over and over again for VP. But let me ask you, what happens when you get everything out of the valor point vendor? OH, you can run them for Justice Points to get herilooms to create another character. It's the same pattern over and over again. You can come in here crying while you denounce a game trying something new, but don't point us into the direction that's PLAYED OUT. Wait, hold on a second, I heard that blizzard is coming out with that new expansion, OH, PANDAS in China, INNOVATIVE. How does one go from frosty regions, to smoldering regions to asian regions? Oh, because blizzard sold out. They are forcing this expansion onto us because they want to make a bigger impact on asian gamers. You might think it's fine, but in my opinion I don't want to play a game set around the same world as DOZENS of free mmorpgs.
My case in point, I didn' want to like this game either for some reason. But I bought it regardless and I was caught off guard because I am actually having more fun than I did with MMOS in a long time. What my main conern is thatI don't want TOR to be anything like WOW. I hope it strays away from it as far as it possibly can. I don't want to log onto my toon just to farm gear week in and week out and run the same repetitive instace three to four days a week. To only have that gear handed out four months later because blizzard releaess a new content patch with revamped bosses that renders the month or two I spent uselesss. I don't want ILVL in this game. ILVL is one of the worst things that can happen to an MMO because there's no innovation. You can't create 3 man raids or 7 man raids or X man raids because how would you scale the gear? How would you appease 10 or 25 man groups? Let's face it, not everyone wants to chain themselves to 10 or 25 man raids. How about some variety at this point? What if I have 2 other friends that want to devour content just between us? Answer is that we simply can't, because the game has dated itself and spoiled it's player base with ILVL. Players understand 10 man or 25 man, normal or heroic, and that's about it. If they choose to throw more variety our way it's going to piss the people off because they are going to do the same thing they did with LFR and lower the ILVL of gear you recieve that aren't the coventional 10 or 25 mans.
All I am trying to say is that I don't know if blizzard is sitting on their hands or they simply aren't with it any more but this pattern has already gotten old. If they continue down this road they will lose another million or so players and Pandas will not save the exodus to come. The OP states that WOW is a massive world, but what the OP doesn't state is that for a seasoned WOW player the game leaves you feeling cornered after the second month or so of a new content patch. |

General Discussion « World of Warcraft 12/18/11 12:10:11 PM
Le'ts be serious here. Do you really think that lightsabers and space combat will take.. let's say even 3 million subs away from blizzard? In all seriousness you guys can hype TOR all you want but, really? lightsabers? space combat? R2D2? seriously? Just think about it. Think about all the stay at home mothers, children, and even grown males who aren't star wars nerds. Do you think they are going to jump ship entirely, cancel their subs entirely, and jump into basically what is a wow clone with glowing swords and werid pew pew sounds? Come on, folks let's be real. Also, if some how bioware does seem to pull it off, do you honestly think that blizzard will lay down and just take it without putting up a fight? and I'm not talking about f2p nonsense like some of you are, Im talking about patch 4.4. Yes, it's coming.
I understand some of you love to hate wow, and I understand some of you really want TOR to succeed but this is getting out of hand. Let the game out first before you start doing probable math. The game is coming tuesday, so, we'll actually get to see how much of a success these cutscenes and "questing will never ever be the same again" pan out for bioware after the first free 30 days are up. My opinion, TOR loses more than half it's subs in less than half a year, and is going to be free 2 play way before it's 6th anniversary. |
