With how fast revenue and profits are dropping, they might not even bother going f2p.

I'm willing to bet that if they switched to F2P and put stuff in the shop that people actually want to buy (as opposed to just forcing them to repeatedly pay for access to the server) that they'd see their profits double, or even triple, rather rapidly. But whatever, subs are clearly the best model for MMOs as ESO and WS continue to prove.

Truer words have never been typed.  Glad to see a fellow believer in the F2P/B2P business model over the outdated and archaic Sub model on these forums.

Not surprising at all.

Subscriptions strive to keep you around for years because thats how they make their money.

F2P games want you to spend all that money right up front, so they temp you with flashy stuff to buy right now, and dont care if you are gone in under a year.

No they don't.  They do the same thing month after month trying not to hemorrhage subscriptions.  They are no more or no less concerned then a F2P MMO.

why this complain?

If game allowed you goig ganked

Why this cry?

if Game dont have safezone? and you know that

Why Complain?

Somes have fun do sandbox stuffs , others just want come and kill and loot and survive with less skilled players

5v1? how matter if its mean profit to group?

At momment you signup/buy sandbox game accepty in fact you going get ganked / grief (and grief its another stupid term)

if game allowed and you dont like

"ADAPT OR QUIT" (often used in entropia)

No one is trying to force an already exiting game to turn PvE focused.  What the OP and people like me are asking is why not CREATE NEW PVE SANDBOXES.

It's hard to have a real sandbox economy in games without loss of gear, or expensive durability loss. There needs to be something that keeps crafters crafting, and give meaningful resources for guilds to fight over.

If you don't want loss of anything on death, sandpark games would be best for you like archeage. You can do your territory control but the economy will always be shallow.

Wrong on so many levels.  Crafting as the primary source for gear acquisition is horrible game design when in the entirety of the RPG genre it is finding gear that is more thrilling and more rewarding.  I never once sat around the kitchen table and greedily rubbed my hands in anticipation of "crafting" a piece of gear while playing D&D.

You can harness the love of both Loot Drops and Crafting by having a dynamic loot system that ensures unneeded loots gets disenchanted for base components to augment found loot.  A system in which Asheron's Call was heavily invested in is the perfect mix of the 2.

And because your constantly looking for stat upgrades you'll never acquire the best in every slot in such a system so no need to worry about silly things like durability loss.

Do not mistake Hardcore PvE with Raiding.  They are not mutually inclusive. Raiding is by far the smallest niche in MMO's and we have seen Wildstar proven that to be correct.  What we haven't seen is a small group or solo hardcore experience in an MMO.  Asheron's Call was the first and only MMO that captured the feel of D&D and other kitchen counter RPG's.
I think your confusing open world with Quest Centric design.  The two are diametrically opposite of one another.

All I can say is awesome!  I haven't been to that page of sellouts for at least a year (or whenever management changed)

Good riddance.

Real classy...

Hey, I feel bad for all the legit writers that now have to find other work, maybe not even in the same field.  I'm human after-all.

That doesn't change the way that Massively changed when new management took over.  Sellouts from then until the end.  That's why this site is my last hope for news on the genre.

Judge me if you want, I just see things for what they are.  And it was blatantly obvious for anyone looking.

News on this site is pretty darn good, not as good as Massively IMO but its still good.  The forum posters here are an entirely different animal lol.  Sadly Massively gets shuttered when the majority of the comments section were likeminded individuals and gamers, whereas I feel the vast majority on mmorpg.com are elitest, entitled and have a deep desire to not change with the times.

Why are devs (even some of the best) so convinced that Free for all PVP MMO's with action combat are what will be what gamers want?  Have they not seen the writing on the wall with the others that have come out?

EVE is the only one still standing and it's more space sim/space fighter than an actual MMORPG.  It's baffling.

You'd prefer yet another PvE centric MMO? Is the market not already saturated with them? There are very few quality PvP centric MMO's out there. This game is needed.

Point me to this Elusive PvE centric Sandbox, Exploration centric. Open World MMO and I'd gladly play it.

Do not mistake PvE themeparks (which are as prevalent in the genre as PvP sandbox's) with what we as gamers want.

I think it's going to be another failure in a long list of free for all PVP non-tab target action combat mmos...

As opposed to that wonderful, billion dollar, mega successful Tab Target MMO?  I mean other then WoW, there isn't another mega hit out there.

I think you mean it doesn't interest you therefore you denigrate and besmirch something not to your liking.

Basically by not having WASD this game is doomed. Wonder why no hype, wonder why no one cares.... it's because no wasd.

It is a top down viewpoint type of game.  Having WASD movement is stupid for such a game.

No worse then the Anti F2P hate or the PvE Only Hate that plagues these forums.

Looks interesting, just wish it wasn't a PvP focused game.

Templar Veteran 1

Sorceror Veteran 1

and a few Level 1-15 deleted characters

it was great at start because i took the right class > Templar / healing / destro

It was good with my 2nd character > Sorceror / Destro / Summon / heal

Tried Bow skill line > i felt asleep while playing or died because of the horrible designed Bow skills

Tried Nightblade > weak Glascannon...

Tried Dragonknight > felt asleep chain pullin mobs to me and kill them

Tried Dual wield > one selfheal at start combined with NBs heal was ok but not worth it

After trying endless new characters i couldnt find any interesting combination than the ones i already played to Veteran Level 1

The BOW skill line is the worst Bow design i have ever seen in a mmorpg. No fun double Shots , no cool animations, just plain dull skills with absolutely no creativity.

They should rework/redesign the Bow skills completly..

The worst of all is the horrible  >>> 5 Skill Hotbar <<< + one ULTIMATE !

i know, i know i know ... the developers want players to think about which skills they use out of their 99 Skills....

i know i know and i know that some players truly enjoy this.

but

i do not enjoy having 20-30 Skills on 2 little switchable 5 Slot Hotbars with the need to switch between them all time.

Maybe they limited the Hotbar to 5 skills because of Console controllers... i dont know.. why ever..

In future if this stupid trend continues we will see Elder Scroll Online 2/3/4 with a 3 Skill Hotbar and maybe it will dissapear completly someday....

Comming from Everquest 1-2 , DAOC, AoC, Warhammer and many other great mmorpg´s the Elder Scroll User Interface is just laughable.

To make this game somehow playable you have to download MODs from external websites.

> NO MINIMAP

> NO DAMAGE FLOATERS

> NO MAP MARKERS

> NO AREA LOOT BANNERS ( you never know what you have looted if you AoE loot)

etc etc etc etc

The developers of this game went the comfortable way and in honest words left the work of creating a good GUI to external MOD programmers.

"If you arent MODDING your not playing the game right" is what someone told me in /zone chat once....

Well i am honest .... i payed 11.99€ for the game + 30 days free....

it was worth it for the 2 Main characters  but i would never continue to pay for this game..

Free to play is comming soon and this overhyped Patch 1.6 with it.........  lets see..

i feel many Nerfs, crying and yelling incomming with 1.6 especially from Sorcerors...

until then i am done with this game just because of pure boredom and no will to log in anymore...

i know i am not the only one that leaves a basically well designed and good looking game but

TESO isnt more than great grafics, 5 Hotbar Keys and super limited ways to build a creative character...

TESO is sadly one of the most boring online games i have ever played and only my will and discipline to at least level two characters to level 50 (V1) was the reason i stayed for 3 weeks.

Bow skill last time I played when I subbed back in October was still clunky.  The overall combat got better but its still too slow for my personal tastes with an Action Combat system.

5 slot Hotbar is too small as well.  8-10 is the sweet spot IMO.  Fewer then that and it feels boring, more then that and it feels like I'm playing a simulator instead of a game.

4 Character Classes is about 8 too few for me.  There needs to be many more (or do away with classes and have any character be able to access any skill line.  Then add on about 12 or so more skill lines then it will be good.

P2W does not mean experience gain.  Learn to Definition.

I'm waiting for people to come in here saying that nothing is wrong with the game, and that B2P is only happening because of the consoles...

Reality is hard to swallow for white knights...

The reality is that changing a business model does NOTHING to make the game better. If people do not play it now and invest money into the game they will not do it when the business model changed. Not saying there is nothing wrong with the game, just saying that changing a business model will not increase your income if the game is crappy. People will not play a crappy game for free either and even if they do they will not invest money into cosmetics!

The game is far from crappy in its current state, but still isn't worth a subscription hence the change to bring in more revenue as more......MANY more will try the game and some of those will spend money in the shops if they enjoy themselves.  Historicity proves F2P is the best model.

Some of you people are naive, and some of you are just plain nuts.

They're switching to b2p because the pc version has clearly shown them that the game doesn't have good retention levels, but it did have good initial sales so they're banking on it doing the same for consoles.  And frankly, if they truly believed the game was hitting their profit goals via subs currently they would keep that model and eat the network fees as the console market has a good chance to be larger for them.

As for why it doesn't have good sub retention, that's pretty obvious to anyone who's played it.  It's not a good game.

It doesn't give the same gameplay experience as other Elder Scroll games, especially during the first 10 levels or so.  The starter zones were a HORRIBLE idea, they should have incorporated the important faction story bits into the tutorial and then just let players go off the rails if they chose.  What amounts to a 2 hour long tutorial before the game opening up finally is just plain stupid.

Out of control phasing disrupting small group play, this was repeatedly reported during the beta, but nothing was done about it.  And from what I understand, nothing continues to be done about it.  Friends are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, draw to continued playing of an MMO.  Making it difficult to play with friends in an MMO is brain dead.

The game just doesn't look or play well.  The animations are lousy for a AAA game, to the point that you wonder if you're playing a 5 year old f2p Chinese mmo at times.  And the combat, for being action combat, is woefully dull and clunky.

I bet you're going to play the hell out of it after the sub drops.

I plan on playing the sh*t out of ESO when it goes F2P.  No game, ever, will ever, none, zero, zilch, nada will ever be worth a subscription.  Why pay good money for something when I could play something else for free.  It's one thing games like PoE, D3, Hearthstone and Neverwinter taught me.  F2P is the best!

So what about all those reasons that you listed above as to why ESO sucks? So which is it? ESO sucks for reasons above or ESO sucks because you can't afford $15?

Subscriptions prohibit players from truly enjoying and monetizing your experience in a way that fits your needs and wants out of a game.  Plus it makes playing other games less appealing because you lose out on time from the subscription which makes your money spent on that subscription less rewarding.

Subscriptions were designed in an age when hosting servers cost companies millions of dollars a year, now it basically costs peanuts.  Subscriptions have never been used to monetize content cause the lack of content in games like WoW or EVE are few and far between.

The only way I'll ever play this game again if they remove level downscaling.

I mean if I am max level and can do 2000 dmg per hit - let me do that much damage to a level 1 mob - don't downscale me and make me do like 18 damage.

The whole scaling down thing = no thanks for me.

There is nothing worse to me than making my character WEAKER just because I entered a lower level zone - F that.

Let me kill 300 things with a single swipe - I've earned it

Downscaling was one the things I really enjoyed with the game, it means not content is ever trivialized.  And why do you need to see big numbers?  And why do you want to go to lower levels to kill stuff anyway?  In normal Games say like WoW, you get zero XP and zero Loot from killing lower level mobs so there's no point in doing it, unless you actually need to kill stuff for no reason to stroke your epeen then you're reasons are flawed and silly.

6.1 patch for Wow brings like 20x more than this expansion for GW2. Not trusting them long time ago, but I'd wait and I'd like to see new expansion.

And you pay $15 a month for 7-9 months inbetween content patches, whereas you pay $50 in 3 years to pay for an content patch for GW2.  Its hot hard to spot the true value.

All classes get to use one other weapon, 1 elite skill, 1 heal, and couple utilities. I'm kinda disappointed here. The lack of player customization/skills is what turned me off GW2 to begin with. I was hoping for a lot more here. Especially because this will be all you get for 2 1/2 years or so...

Disagree with you almost all the time on most everything you post but sadly this is one time I agree with you.  I had high hopes for a proper Hybrid Class with Revenant but it sounds more like its going to be some kind of Temp Pet class like the DAoC Theurgist.  Maybe the 2H Sword Necromancer can play more like a proper Hybrid Class.
