Level scaling group content. Seriously if you want to fight Phogoth on max difficulty level 24 and your only level 20 the game let's you do it. If you want to fight a horde of mobs in Venus at level 14 and your legendary level 26s, that's fine.

Basically the game lets you scale difficulty anyway you like and doesn't forgive or forget. And the best part?! You can do the same things solo if you really want! So no complaining from the solo crowd?!

Go ahead and post some of your own ideas on how Destiny teaches MMOs a lesson.

If I wanted to scale a world map in an MMO to level 16 and I'm level 50, I would be the only one on that map and other people would begin to complain how empty the world is because THEIR scaled up/down instance would also be mostly empty. Not to mention the loot would suck and even if they did leave the loot to my actual level, everyone would be exploiting the lower level map to horde loot which would cause the world's economy to crash n burn. And let's definitely not forget how server intensive that would be for an actual MMO, not an instance lobby game where the players are hosting the world.

That level scaling only works in non-mmos where it's a small instance in an intimate environment.

Your idea & post failed.

Pretty much this.

The solution is to make the world big enough, 100% open and progression meaningful and players will flock to it.

Not interested in ever playing this game but I concur with OP that there should be a PvE server.  In the golden days of MMO studios opened up different ruleset servers to appeal to different styles of gamers instead of forcing players to play a particular way.

I've noticed no drop at all, nor heard any talk about it in chat. I thought there would be more buzz in Cyrodiil chat being that AA is a pvp game, but there wasn't.

From perspective (pvp'r) AA has some interesting systems that I'm sure I would enjoy. The problem I have is that AA's combat and look is much older than ESO's. It's too much for me to give up.

Free For All PvP with little consequence and an outdated combat system is why ESO fans will not flock to it.  Although I like both games and am continuing to play both at a very casual approach.

I'd rather sit through 2000 or greater player queues and have a healthy population to play with when I finally get into the game then be forced to quit like I did with my beloved Asheron's Call when primetime population fell to less then 600 on my server or how my friends who started in Wildstar had to reroll to another server.

Lower population numbers in a game that is supposed to be conflict centric and resource laden is a bitch to get into when a company opens up a half million servers to meet the initial demand.  I applaud Trion for having the balls, guts and intestinal fortitude to stick with heavy queues because it means the future of the game will not fail.

All I know is that he helped sucker a lot of you guys into buying founders/pre-order of a game that is going to fail...It will probably be the ESO/Wildstar of the EQ series. So all in all he did a good job and left at the right time to then not be associated with something that is just going to shit in it's own pants and let it roll down into it's socks.

Now he looks good like as if he just left on his own accord and ready to take on another project.

I tip my hat to you sir but I will not bow because you didn't manage to convinve me to buy your fail game.

I am curious how someone who didn't buy the game can have the opinion that it is a fail game. Especially when it hasn't even been released yet and even when it does the game is F2P.

Ignore blatant haters who do nothing but wishful thinking because their beloved IP doesn't do a 2.0 of the most boring MMO imaginable.  EQN will be the most innovative and revolutionary MMO to ever come out and people get pissT cause it isn't EQ1 all over again.  With little to no regard to the history that is EQ and the stagnation it employed on the genre as a whole.  WoW is EQ redone and is the reason we've had 10 years of failed Themepark clone after Themepark clone.

hopefully everyone at soe will get the hint: these eq series arent going anywhere. soe was abt to dump online gaming anyway, just get it over with and bail on all the eq already.

I'm sure SOE will get a hint more grounded in reality than one drummed up by a bitter person.

Play Landmark and we will talk about reality. EQNext is falling further into the suck vortex the more that is known about it. I think this guy moved on at a good time. Once EQNext underperforms the only thing they will be able to do is sell off the AI technology or use it to make a serious game if they can pool enough money from the founders packs to fund future projects.

Wild ass speculative assumptions will not make your wishful, biased and outright silly remarks any more valid.

EQN is fine and remains highly looked forward to on just about every social media site there is.

Unless your WoW, having a Raid centric endgame is the worst possible content feature an MMO can make.

Any MMO that is or goes F2P is instantly dead, not to me but to everyone. Point me to one, just one, F2P game that it's alive and i will recall what i just said. For those who don't know F2P means free to play, meaning that its free to download and play, GW2 is NOT F2P, its B2P.

And having said that i've been playing ESO since early access and i love the game and i would just quit if it ever goes F2P.

Every single P2P MMO that went F2P was immediately infused with larger populations, and more updates.

Can we please for the sake of the genre get this kickstarted?

beat that.

90% which is barren and void.  Distance and size doesn't count unless it is filled with locales and denizens to explore.

I'd 100X rather explore a fantastical setting then a barren empty space.

Is it just me or do some of the more indie MMO's seem to grab the whole "sandbox" concept much better than some of these big AAA titles that have pushed the word to overhype their game. I mean AA is a good game but it's not a sandbox nor does it feel sandbox to me at all. It's just a huge mess that you get when you put limited sanbox features in a themepark. Not trying to turn this into an AA post but it's just the most recent one that is going to open it's doors soon and before they even open them all the way it's worse than some of the other games I have played with "sandbox" features. I'm looking forward to seeing how the mmo genre makes the whole concept of sandbox and sandpark games into better games but to me some of the more indie devs are managing to do this, or at least seem to be, better than some of these big companies. Just my thoughts on the whole subject though.

It's not that they are doing it better it's that they are doing it to draw a niche cause they know their limited resources will never be able to compete with WoW or EQ on creating a Themepark MMO with millions of subscribers.  Instead they'll create something small, often times lacking decent production and slap full loot PvP and c all it a sandbox with no or limited systems in place to appeal to the common player.  All they need is some crafting, a large blank world and a few roaming mobs and they have a game, they can't publish the finer intricacies of things like Questing or other forms of content so they stick to the lowest and most easiest form of content for MMO's the sandbox PvP model.

Fortunately this is about to get upended by the mother of all PvE sandbox games in EQN and hopefully it'll force other Triple-A studios to design PvE Sandboxes.

No because MOBA's are the stupidest form of gaming to come along since text based MUD's.

Recently 2 of my friends got married and found out afterwards that their wives were ex-WoW players.

This started a series of events that ended up with 9 players in Karazhan cause most of us left during the BC/Wrath era and no one knew what the heck was going on.

Where are my talents? Why is there a pokemon game in WoW? I was told there is farmville in WoW now. Where is it? F it! Lets pile into Kara for old times sake!

While it was a fun run of 9 people for '2-3 hours' something struck me. Not one of us actually managed to play for the full 2-3 hours.

Baby feeding / baby bath / wife aggro / Non-scheduled downtime at work etc all meant people had to take breaks while others went ahead. Now Kara is solo content so we didn't have any issues as we made our way through but what if it wasn't?

What if we were in 'current Raid content' in WoW? Would any one of us actually be able to play?

Now, back in the BC/Wrath days, most of us were single so we could. Now? Married + kids? I don't think so. And I don't think i'm alone in this. The large portion of people who played WoW on release were in their 20s. They grew up and are doing things that most people do when they grow up; have a child /  start a family.

This limitation for us means 'bite sized content' which starts the whole 'lack of grouping' in modern MMOs. If you only have 20mins consecutively, you are not going to be able to group with other people.

Here's the thing, I'm pretty sure we represent the largest portion of the MMO playerbase; middle class or higher, aged around 30-50. As someone from that playerbase, sorry but this 'group content' isn't more important than my baby's meal / baby's bath / Wife aggro / whatever.

MMO players grew up, deal with it.

I'll tell you why group content doesn't work for me.  Pick and choose any of the following reasons:

  1. Limited time
  2. Asshat Douchebags
  3. Stupid players
  4. lack of group finders (spamming chat for groups is stupid)
  5. I am introverted by nature (as I suspect a great many gamers are too)
  6. planning and coordination needed to do detailed content like raids.
  7. Just downright dislike it, I've always preferred solo play more.  (for those who say "well duh play a single player RPG" then my answer is STFU, I enjoy the economy and immersion that a breathing living world brings.

MMO's do not have to be the polar opposites of "telling you how to play your character" (linear themepark) or "standing naked in a blank empty world" (extreme sandbox concept).

What's been missing in many talks about the direction of MMO design is FREE RANGE.  Imagine a populated world, rich in lore and faction struggles, mystery and consequences, crafting and building opportunities, and in which all you have, besides minimal gear, is a questionable map in your hand, and an open world you are free to explore.

FREE RANGE is the answer, with PVE, PVE/PVP, and PVP servers for folks with different tastes.  It's time to ditch the canned personal storylines and give the players back their freedom to roam.

I don't really get it.  It sounds a lot like what is presently called a sandbox.  Are you saying there should or should not be quests?  I get that you mean no 'youre the hero, go save everything' storyline, but do you mean no NPC conflict at all?  I would think you do, because you note PVE servers which pretty much necessitates some kind of questing unless PVE simply means 'kill stuff' (which I don't think it does).

If you meant some quests and PVE factions as well as player factions and (as someone else mentioned) maybe some procedural content plus Live GM events and high-quality aesthetics and petpet  creation/hunting/etc...that'd be wonderful by me.  A good balance.  And resource management!

I'm saying Everquest 1, before it got modified to be WOW-like in the last six to eight years.

So forced grouping and spawn camping?

No thanks!

I'd definitely add the:

  • Hard of hearing.
He's basically the guy that will not listen to you or the other group members at all.  the player who refuses to watch his threat, refuses to move out of the fire, runs it alone while in a group.  The guy who will always wipe a raid or group because of their inability to listen to common solutions.  Definitely the worst MMO gamer there is and the reason why I abhor most group content since WoW released.

He should have made it very simple and just remake an uo in 3d with better grafhics..

I agree with the combat system and IMO there is a fix for the Plots.  You can still use that system and only sell virtual plots but still have some sort of instanced plots for housing for other players.  Project Gorgon is doing that and I like it.

Naxx has been a huge boon for the shake up of the Meta but It's made Hunter extremely overpowered.  I like Reynad's suggestion, make Hunter's Mark cost 1.  Although I'd like to  see it cost at least 3 or 4.  Such a strong card.

I saw this game on Steam and thought I would give it a go.  It is sorta a cross between EQ and Asheron's Call.  If you liked games like that then you will like this game.  Granted it is still in Alpha but it is very smooth and there is a good bit of content already in the game.

Want to Be a Neco/Fire Mage? Archer/Pet Handler? Unarmed/Mentalist? You can be.  Tons of skills and more are in the works.  Find what rocks your boat and play your way.

Project: Gorgon also has a Kickstarter page here:

Project: Gorgon Web Page:

I hope you enjoy this as much as I have over the last few days.

One of the Devs was the original designers of Asheron's Call.  I played it a few months back and it lacks a lot of meat but it will eventually get there.  Sadly their kickstarter failed but they are plugging along and will get it right.  I'll check back again next year though, still too unpolished.

So I like the fact  on my console, way less cheating... The graphics are damn good with next gen, I pre  ordered months ago for my  xbox one. can't wait.. 9 more days/

Maybe for the next 2 years and then PC's will overtake them again.

Same thing was said when 360 and PS3 came out years ago and look where that got consoles?

Will not touch at all.  Not a fan of FPS's at all.
