I personally like the B2P model of GW2.

I don't mind paying for a game, but I don't like to pay subs because my play time is sporadic. I play in spurts. I may lay off of a game for a month or two and then come back. I like variety. I have limited time for games and I don't play MMORPG games exclusively, so when a new single player game comes out it may get my attention for a month or so.

So B2P works out best for me personally.

I like the new Kerrans. I love the look of EQN so far. I just wish they would quit screwing around with Landmark. I'm just not interested in a building game and they seem so focused on it right now.

I think the biggest reason people return to WoW is they love the world, the lore, and the characters. They want to to see the next part of the story. They want to see what's new in the world they roamed for so long. It's like going to visit a friend that you have not seen or talked to for a long time. Fun to catch up, but then you realize that you don't have much in common anymore.

I get that urge to go back and pay a visit every so often, it's just hard to stay very long with the outdated graphics and tab-target combat. I know graphics are not everything..but it's SOMETHING.

I really wish they would make a WoW 2.0. New engine, more dynamic combat, same world. It does not seem like it is ever going to happen though.

Still don't understand the draw of love interests in games like DA, ME, and Fable. Do people actually do this in game?

I don't see the point either to romance a bunch of pixels.  I just play and enjoy the games and never bothered to "sandwich" any of the characters.

I agree. Looking for romance? There are websites for that. Better yet, go out and meet people in person. Just quit throwing it in my face. I just wanna be a hero and slay dragons and whatnot.

ESO combat is better than standard tab targeting, but it leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

In my opinion, the combat in Neverwinter feels a lot better. Combat feels like it has weight. I can remember moments in Neverwinter where I would have my shield up and a monster hits me with a few heavy blows and it feels like that poor shield is taking a real beating and it is all that is separating me from life and death. Does Neverwinter have other issues? Sure, lots..but combat feels and sounds good.

TERA does combat well, but the questing is so freakin boring.

GW2 has lots of movement but feels so floaty, does not feel solid, and the monsters don't react much. Another thing is I think it has lots of sound issues. I know for me, combat sounds tend to cut out for some reason and I can't hear attacks landing etc.

I think there is a lot that goes into really satisfying needs good animation, impressive battle sounds, weight, motion, etc. Various games do certain aspects well, others don't.

I do like the combat in Neverwinter and TERA, I would play more of them if not for all of the other issues.

I have to agree. Yes, WoW gets a lot of hate for various reasons but this was something that I remember liking about the game. Those moments in the game when I was alone in a forest or on a mountain top, just the music and ambient sounds.

Do I like action, monsters, quests, and new gear? Certainly, but I also think games need exploration and quiet downtime. It's like most good movies have periods of action, sad moments, happy moments, thoughtful moments, etc...the whole roller coaster. I think games should be similar. I think these areas help the world feel vast and immersive. They also help you better appreciate the architecture, etc of the cities and villages areas.

I definitely think it is an aspect of RPG games in general that is being lost.

I do like the solid feel of TERA's combat. While I do enjoy the combat and visuals of TERA, my goodness the questing is super boring. After a few levels, the bland repetitive quests make you want to smash your head into a wall.

Another thing I did not like about TERA has unfortunately also appeared in WildStar...that being class=weapon. I hate how in TERA once you pick a class you are locked in to that one weapon type the rest of the game. I like it when say a 'Warrior' can wield a sword, sword and shield, axe, and so on. I hate that WildStar did the same thing with their classes.

The graphics are absolutely horrible. They are way beyond just needing polish. They make it sound like the backers are happy though. I guess that's all that really matters considering they are the ones paying for it. Good for them. I will be steering far far away from this one though.

One of my biggest gripes so far is the combat. It just doesn't feel satisfying. I can't say for sure exactly what the problem is. Maybe it's the sound and/or animation. It's not visceral at all. It doesn't feel solid. Maybe it will get better as time goes on and they polish the game more. Maybe not.

The combat in TERA and Neverwinter just feels good. I feel like I am making contact with something solid. Of course those games have other issues (in my opinion).

I wish some company could get all the major components correct in a single game. It just doesn't seem like it is ever gonna happen.

Anyone else feel this way?

While the improvements are nice, they are things that they owe the players of D3 before who had to deal with a rather weak (and very expensive compared to its stronger comepitors). I'm having fun though I can't help but feel the price for it was a lot higher then it should of been. They didn't add that much at all, just gameplay fixing up (again stuff that players SHOULD get for a game that needed it badly) its not exactly full of content for an expansion, and unlike an MMo that gets more as it goes, D3 isn't likely to have more added. $40 is a lot for an expansion that other games might just consider to be 1 or 2 DLCs patched together.

Yeah, I think the new stuff looks good too. Like you I feel like a lot of it (Adventure mode, better looting, etc) was stuff that should have been in from the start. I feel like I paid $60 for the beta and now they want $40 for the rest. I'll get it eventually I guess, but I will wait to catch it on sale or something.

I've been watching this game for a long time. I can't wait to give it a shot. It's like WoW had a mid-air collision with Star Wars and crash landed in Disney World. Should be fun.

Is there any feedback from devs saying that theyre gonna improve feeling of melee combat?

Let's just put this to bed right now.  The starting areas are not gonna change in any substantive way and neither is combat feel.

There is simply no way that a game in the later stages of Beta with its NDA lifted and a hard release deadline can do this without risking completely destroying their game with bugs.

I agree. I have been in a LOT of betas, and I have yet to see a single game change very much at all from beta to release. It just doesn't happen. I am pretty confident in saying that the combat it has right now in beta is what you are going to get at release.

Like many, I have no idea what they were thinking when they came up with Steam Machines.

It makes no sense at all. If there is some reason why I should want a Steam Machine, then they have done a really poor job with marketing because I have no idea what that reason would be. I thought the huge advantage of a console was that every unit had exactly the same hardware so each game was guaranteed to work at an acceptable level of performance etc. With Steam Machines they already have all of these different units with different specs, etc. Seems like you are better off just downloading SteamOS and dual booting your PC. If you don't have a PC, then just build one, then download the OS.

I like Valve and I love Steam, but WTF? If these things don't fail then I will be shocked.

I've heard that Dungeons of Dredmore is a good roguelike. I don't think it has classes, I think it is skill based. You can pick it up on Steam for about $5 I think.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes - $4.99

Mark of the Ninja - $2.99

Defiance - $4.99

Dishonored - $14.99

Rage - $9.99

Final Exam - $6.69

Wanted to get Spelunky but the sales switched and I missed it.

I would still like to get Dark Souls, Bioshock Infinite, Shank, Shank 2, Valdis Story..but I am tapped out for now.

Love the Steam sales! Games for $5, cmon!

Actually levelling down is one of my most hated features- it makes a complete nonsense of the entire levelling process- it is beyond moronic.  If you are going to arbitrarily change a players level to suit the area they are in, why not get rid of traditional levels all together?

When I first heard about this particular feature I thought it was a good idea. Now I could go into these other areas and see them without waiting to level up. The reality was something different. I found that I missed the idea of there being areas that are dangerous. The scene in The Lord of the Rings where they realize the hobbits ran off into Fangorn Forrest (however it's spelled) comes to mind. It creates drama. You know that feeling you get when you have accidentally wandered into a dangerous area?

I came to realize this about several things with GW2, the ideas sounded a whole lot better on paper than they ended up being in reality. Every once in a while I will jump in, but I usually don't stay very long. It's just not very fun.

I would love a key if someone happens to have an extra one. Thanks!

One of the biggest complaints I've heard is that combat doesn't feel satisfying. Apparently, there aren't animations indicating when a weapon strikes an enemy, or deflects a blow, etc. Your character swings through things because there's no collision hit boxes and feels "floaty".

Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

the game is still in beta and 6 months or so away from launch.  if what you described is the case,  then there is still time to improve it.

And there it is.

The "it's still in beta" excuse. That's all I needed to know about this game, thanks.

I've tried the ESO beta and for what little time I had, I liked it.

But I agree, the old beta excuse does not cut it with me anymore. Why? I have been in many many MMORPG betas and I have yet to see a single game change much at all from beta to release, other than just the amount of content available. There have been several games in which I hoped graphics, animation, sound, combat, etc would improve from beta to release and it never has happened. I guess they just don't have the time to do any reworking in those areas before release. In my experience, what you see in beta is pretty much what you get on release day. Typically the only "feature" added is a login queue.

I would certainly appreciate an extra key being tossed my way.

It's realistic. Meaning that the people willing to lay down real cash will own all of the property.

It's also chock full of delicious nostalgia. MMMmmmm. Just taste that clunky inventory with the tangy kick of dated graphics.
