I agree 100% with the OP.

Bioware said they wanted to hear my opinion so I wrote them an email that had some of these points. I never got a reply.

I bought the Collector's Edition as well.

You wont get a response because you mentioned SWG. It doesnt make sense to take what works in other games and implement it in your current game. Oh no we cant do that.....lol

I agree with this article but the crafting needs to be included. I really loved the crafting in SWG. TOR's crafting is not that great. I am glad i dont have to stand next to nodes but it still is not as personal as most MMO's with crafting. There is no personal touch to what you make. SWG had a great crafting system.
Hey I would support you in whatever you decide but truth is, I dont think it would accomplish much. It would be a site for those upset about the game to go and rant but it will not sway the company from making changes. Sad part is, us players dont have as much say in dev, as we are led to believe. Also why create it when MMORPG.com has all the nay sayers on it anyways. Every game that is announced or in development gets a Fail post immediately and than people go on ranting about the sorry state of the game. All of us who played TOR know what it isnt and we all know it will never be what we had hoped it to be. We just either play it or walk away sad. Good luck to you though and I honestly do feel your Star Wars MMO pain.
Thumbs up to that but I would be very worried about who and how this game would turn out. STO was a huge bust for me and I still play SWTOR which I enjoy but its not even close to what it really should be as a Star Wars game. Tron would be a blast but I have a feeling someone whould probably not do it justice.

Don't worry OP, you're not alone.

I feel bad because so many people were missled about what GW2 really is, but in one month's time nobody will remember as they all quit GW2 to get overhyped about whatever AAA mmo will come next and sell it to the world as if it was yet another "new messiah", "wow killer", "evolution of mmo", "new age of gaming", etc.

As a Reaper friend told me: "The cycle must continue. It is inevitable."

How in the hell was anybody missled about GW2 ? There was more info about GW2 then any other game ever ...it delivers exactly what it was advertized as having .Not liking something is a personal choice ...a post that's full of shit is just a hater trying to be cool

I agree Bad.dog. I dont play it as much as I used to but I havnt quit as Emerwyn is saying. My question is how do you "quit" a free to play game?....lol. I will pop on and off for as long as the game is running.

I wouldn't call GW2 a themepark, a themepark is where you get put on a fixed path to level up (well, there's the class storyline in GW2), but you can go to any zone and still gain xp regardless of what level you get downscaled to and discover things you otherwise won't see on the map. I don't think that's defined as a themepark.

It is definately a themepark. You get downgraded but never upgraded so you cant earn XP going to an area higher than your current level. You are set on a path to level within level designated areas and that is still themepark. You follow the path. GW2 is no sandbox.Sandbox is free to roam anywhere without level designation and completely do as you wish. Tired of hearing TSW, GW2 being called sandboxes. They are not!

You forgot crafting which I used to find amazing. I'm usually not a crafter but in SWG I enjoyed.

Also the concept of player cities was something I really would like to see again.

YES!!! I absolutely loved crafting and I am not a crafter. I miss this game witha  passion. We need a SWG 2 set during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. That would be awesome! Also SOE cant have it. Lets get Trion to do this game. I like how they have advanced Rift. :)

For me it was 5 main things that ruined the game for me:

1:   The stale, lifeless, dull worlds (no day/night cycle, weather, swimming, wildlife, moving-active npcs, etc)

2:   Lame race selection at character creation screen (Star Wars IP and BW just has mostly humoid races, what???)

3:  Basically 2 types of quests that got real boring, real fast (kill x mobs, and collect y items).

4:  A cutscene for every damn quests, sorry that is ok for like, maybe the main class quests, but after about 10 quest scenes, I spacebared every one because I didnt care)

5:  Excessive load sceens.

This game made me wished I played SWG back in 2003-2005. :(

Yeah man agree with all you said. I did get to play SWG back in 2003 and man it was a wonderful game. RIP SWG :(

you forgot; no ninja looting or ninja mobs:)

Best mmo i have played. there is always people, never feel lonely.

Kudos on the ninja looting. Thats one of my fav parts about this game.

The point of this thread is not to bash EA or Bioware, but to focus on why you quit this game. I want to hear from players that actually played the game and got to atleast level 40 or so, and did some pvp and maybe some end game raids. I want to hear from real players, not the guys that are just trolling this game because they hate EA or just want to see the game fail.

So what is about the game (not the company or developers) that you hated the most? What was the "breaking point" for you? For me, it was mainly pvp.

1. Gear. Gear, gear, gear... the gear in this game is stupid. Those that have the greatest gear, win. In SWG, there was many moments where I would be out-buffed but because of my wits, I would win a 1v1 battle or even a 2vs1 battle simply because I knew how to play my class and would outwit people. I can't count the number of hate tells I would get from Jedi (post-NGE, of course) accusing me of hacking because I would punk them as BM/Mando with only a row of buffs, while they had two rows of buffs. It was a great feeling to be able to know that a class was only as good as the player. In TOR? None of that. If you have augemented WH gear, you win. Every time. Breaking point for me.

2. Stun Wars. Stun, knocked back, pulled, froze, choked, lifted, grappled.. OMFG, the second you start a war zone and go the objective point, you are greeted with which seems like an infinite amount of crowd control. I have NEVER played a game with so much damn CC. It's so ridiculous, how can anyone see this as fun? And why does EVERY class get godly CC? Where is the specialization? There should be a class devoted to CC, instead everyone can annoy everyone at all times. It's just not fun. Period. Breaking point.

3. Soul. No soul, nothing memorable at all in this game. Everything from the story to the way your armor looks, is just generic and bland (speaking of armor, why can't I change the color? Really? 2012 and no color options for armor? Come on man! Get with it!)  And the voice acting...oh yes, the almighty voice acting.  Okay, tell me this: since when was story telling narrating and holding your hand through every damn quest? I dont WANT YOU to read me a BOOK!  I want to play your game, not sit through cut scene after cut scene of some shmuck telling me everything! Wheres the mystery in that? Look at Chrono Trigger, or FFIII / IV, great story telling, no voice acting. No long narration about some crap that doesn't matter. The best story games have breif and to the point dialouge that means something! All the dialouge in TOR is garbage, and none of it really means anything. Theres no humor, love, soul.. its just "We have voice actors so sit through 100+ hours of this guy rambling because we paid money 200 mill to have this done!"

Those were the top 3 breaking points to me. This doesn't include the billion minor annoyances from World level design (Would love to kick the guy in the nuts that designed Belsavis) to the awful, god awful loading times. In conclusion, TOR was just a giant disappointed. So what was it for you? I'm interested in hearing what killed the game for you. Again, I'm looking for people who actually played and perhaps even enjoyed the game or what it was.

I agree with all those that you mentioned. I still sub to the game but I dont know how much longer. I wanted to explore the galaxy more not just on planets but in space. I wanted to hang trophies or hunt. I dont always want to be in a  war setting all the time. PvP has just been horrible for me. The stuns and knockbacks along with the gear for pvp has been aweful for me. I am hoping they expand this game some more regarding the areas I was talking about. and that you have mentioned. I dont really care for the cinematics as much as I do the mechanics of the game. I truly hope the game gets better but like I said I dont know how much longer i wll sub. Throw me a carrot Bioware!

Sorry man I didnt even finish reading what you and wrote because of this line "Really? Do you honestly think people in the 21st century believe you can sell out of a digital copy? Your efforts did not net you $300 for two new players, it didn't even net you $120 as I was expecting to shell out. It netted you $0 because of your greed."

Really? Greed? If they were greedy they would continue to sell , sell , sell and over sell a product and you would not be able to get into the game and than they would price gouge you in the game market. Taking all your money and giving you nothing is more greedy than temporarily limiting the sell of the game in order to have server stability in a Free to play MMO.

This game is not a sandbox game. I will give it better exploration than any game recently put out but that doesnt make it a sandbox game.
Just looked it over and ......No not going to happen. Its not going to be better than WoW and it wont be better than GW2 which is where you posted about the wrong game.

I would bet that there are people who maybe should have been spending more time singing praises of the game rather than bashing other games.  Just a thought.

LOL ....eyelolled. So true

Sorry dissagree with everything you say. Bioware and EA never said it was a WoW killer it was the community who said that. Only a game can kill itself. TOR was not the level of success that everyone predicted but a complete failure is false and a lie. The game is still running, still being funded and still being developed.  [mod edit]

Were you interested in this game before it came out? Why? Why not?:

Yes. It was Star Wars and based on The Old Republic Era.

Do you currently play this game?:

Yes

If yes, please explain why:

Because its Star Wars and not that bad a game. Plus there is no other alternative that interests me at this moment.

If no, please explain why:

What MMOs are you currently playing and why do you play these particular titles?:

I play the FTP Rift. I play it because Rift is a pretty solid game however not a big fan of their Races. Petty but true.

What compels you to post in this particular subforum as frequently (or infrequently) as you do?

I usually dont because of all the negative posts that tend to follow whenever you want to say something good.

SWG was years ahead of it's time and many MMO's of today cannot replicate many aspects of the game today.

I know it had it's faults but re-release it today without the bugs and todays graphics, it would rock.

I would agree if it was pre-NGE. After NGE I would say no.

Not that I hate the game, it wasnt for me...buuut...anyone notice the game doesn't seem to have any hardcore defenders on this site anymore?

No its just this site only has nay sayers all over it. Most of us once in a while glance at the game list and move on. All you get is bombarded with negative comments about games you like so whats to defend? I happen to love TOR. I play it everyday. I am not surprised that people have the attention span of a nat and the patience of a starving Tiger when it comes to MMO's. Some of these same people talk about how Tera was so much better and awesome...Now you are reading of F2P for that now. TSW same thing. All negative people are impossible to please and only care about saying they predicted something that was inevitable, either it was now or later.  F2P is a model all games will adopt at some point. So to all you "Look at me I predicted F2P." .....here is your cookie.

Good article. I fully agree with you on all points. Some people just love to be nay sayers.

First off, I know full well that the vast majority of users here at MMORPG.com are pretty anti-SWTOR and anything anyone says pro-SWTOR is devolved into a "lol @ fanboi" fest. So let's skip the prelude and get right to it: Yes, I am a fan of Star WArs. No, I have not played all of the mass effects, dragon ages. I've played both KOTOR's and out side of these games, I know little of Bioware. Hell, I didn't like ME and DA: Origins was meh. So I'm a Star Wars fan, much more than a BW fan (if at all). So let's lay that to rest right now.

Back in the heydays of E3 2009 and 2010, we can vividly remember our giddy excitement of the cinematic trailers released by Bioware, who had contracted Blur Studios for three of them, at a few hundred thousand dollars a pop. Now, with a massive marketing campaign for Battlefield 3 causing a massive drain on EA over the last year and a half, coupled with SWTOR's massive budget, it stands to reason that a video of this nature being released post-launch and well into the game's life cycle seems a sign that the game is far from dead or peril. In fact, it shows that game has promise. I know what you're thinking, but seriously. Hold off on the rabid hate for just a few more minutes.

You see, if an investment is losing ground, or money in a way that shows little or no signs of recovering, then a company (any right minded company) would call it quits, and stop investing to let the product run it's course and eventually die. Or pull the plug out right and cut it's losses immediately. Well, as we can see SWTOR has had some serious issues over the last six months or so, however many of these are being resolved, better late than never. Server populations are stabilizing and things appear to have hit a stable period and with moderate growth on a  couple of servers (despite all of the vitrol and hate on these forums). So, that might be why EA and Bioware are still willing to put thousands of dollars into a couple minute trailer on a companion character that likely cost more than most of us make in a year.

Quite simply put: you're wrong. The game is not over, and those of you who were crying and screaming about SWTOR not being SWG or WoW or not-WoW, you're clearly not as informed as you might think. The facts speak for themselves that the game is far from the "gloom and doom" end that all of you people are predicting. They are still dumping loads of capital, man hours and cash into this game and that should speak for itself.

I agree with you. They are shaking up the development and getting new fresh eyes on it. That doesnt mean they pull the plug. MMORPG has the most negative nellies out of any website I have ever seen so I also agree with you on there.
