You will get the amount substracted from your wallet, even if it means that you will end up with a negative amount and basically unable to play.

You can, however, sell game time cards through a secure (read: fraud proof) portal within eve to players for isk. Which means, you can't make rl money out of it, so gold farming companies stay out. It's explained here

Now thats a cool way of dealing with people who buy from gold sellers :)

There's a quote somewhere and I can't remember it fully so going to paraphraze it; "If you like EVE but you don't like PVP, then perhaps you must conclude that you really don't like EVE afterall".

Trying to evade PVP IS possible, but it makes for very boring gameplay and essentially means you shield yourself from a large part of the game, the playerbase and (imo) the fun. It's ok to be 'scared' at first but I'd urge you to try and accept the PVP with open arms, you'll have more fun that way.

There is also quite an important quote and it goes something like this "Assume makes an ass of both u and me".

At no point in time did I mention I was scared :)

I'm 37 years old i've pvp in games since the early muds about 20 odd years, both as a pker and a pk hunter, I don't "mind"  pvp i've just become very very jaded with the whole pvp genre, so I quite enjoy pvp but I won't play a game where i'm forced to pvp :)

Just like I don't mind grouping but I won't play a game i'm forced to group in.

ahh so your the kind of person who believes if a person plays mature games like GTA or listens to manson or plays sl etc they are worse than people who don't ?

Now if you believe that online life and sl breeds more crazies than your local town ?? I REALLY want to come live in your town because it would be so nice not to have to lock my doors.

If you really have met people who did ALL of those horrible things, then I can't blame you for wanting to move to my town. It sounds like you must live in hell or atleast next door to it. In my town myself and my friends were probably to worst kids on the block and we mostly just made prank phone calls and harassed people over the internet. We never killed any small animals or raped anybody.

So yeah, sure, come move to my town. It sounds like you would be a LOT safer here. I would still lock your door though. Its just a privacy issue. You don't want anyone walking in on you while you are butt ass naked do you?

Then again you play Second Life... so maybe you do!

One thing, remember all those killers and serial rapists, usually apart from the media trying to say oh he played GTA or online chat programs, you never hear them say wow he played SL what a hive of scum and villainy :) what you do nearly every time hear them say is "oh he was always quiet" "I never would have suspected" "he or she helped me in with my shopping".

First read about this incident in another forum and yes Second Life has nothing to do with it. That sort of thing is happening in real life as well.

Eh? So you can name me another example of a woman breaking into a guys house with a BB gun (with a laser sight on it apparently), a taser, some duct tape and her dog? Then using the duct tape on the dog, leaving it in the bath tub and getting the hell out of there? And then getting punished by the ASPCA for what she did to the dog on top of what she did to the guy? Cause I'll be darned impressed if you can.

I'm not saying Second Life created this kind of crazy. But it is a breeding ground for this kind of crazy.

Okay let me put it this way.

Online games are just another way to meet socially, I met more crazies in rl drunken idiots in pubs, gangs of kids who throw bricks at your windows, who tie dogs to fireworks or drag a bag of kittens around behind a motorbike, rapists who stalk lone women getting of buses, date rape drugs.

Now if you believe that online life and sl breeds more crazies than your local town ?? I REALLY want to come live in your town because it would be so nice not to have to lock my doors.

Let me tell you a little story, my wife who I met 12 years ago, we had a wonderful life, both of us into many of the same things rpg, scifi, computers, we had loads of so called rl friends we ran rpg meets, we went to live action and made many many so called good friends, my wife was diagnosed with leukeamia 10 years ago and within 6 months all those friends disapeared.. we saw them in town and they couldn't even look us in the eye..

Now we have friends online from yahoo and online games that have lasted 10 years who know of my wifes illness who don't pitty her but treat her as an equal, we are in the uk but about 20 friends have come visit from america over the years.

We also have (counted them) 8 couples we know who met on games online and now are together rl, two even got married and one is looking forward to there first baby girl :)

sadly lag and network issues plus bugs in sl make any other mmo look good.

I play sl for the people I no longer buy guns, cars or anything in sl except clothing because even the most tragic and badly coded proper game out there does it better.

It doesn't matter how inventive the scripters are in sl or how amazing your product your at the mercy of a badly coded, badly maintaned system.

SL isn't to blame for this that person was totally tapped.

I have met many people rl from sl and other online games, made lots of fun friends from all around the world its not online thats dangerous you can find just as many psycho's in your local bar or club

I would love to go back, both me and my wife loved AOC wanted to stay..

But they lied to us.

Its classed as a mature game but all we have is mostly male players dressing up and showing of female parts (big tip guys most female players get to see there boobies every moring when they get up, they do not need to go around in a game with there tops off).

In development they had adult content like AI run brothels lol and what happened to our special fun pub brawls ??

all was toned down.

And AoC is one of the only games mmo that has a pet class where your pet has no ability to keep agro (frenzy doesn't count)

See if you look at the description of your bomb pet the one that  explodes if attacked you can see it was meant to be able to draw agro.

11 Years ago I played muds (txt based prequels to the current crop of mmo's) I decided one after being unhappy with the imms/admins of the mud decided I could do better.

I went to college and university, studied and got my Bsc in computer science, i'd played games and tinkered with cheat programs and hacks for single player games, so I had okay skills, and a mensa IQ test I took at the urging of my mother gave me a nice little  piece of paper saying 154 iq and 98% problem solving ability.

So I thought I can do better, I can do the game i've always wanted to play..

There is a reason im almost completely gray haired at 37 and its not genetic

I self taught myself C (silly ass uni had taught us all pascal lol) created the basics of EoMv1.

Using a base rom code.

4000 lines of code later it was doing okay. year of play afew players.

EoMv2

C eos code upto around 10,000 lines of code.

EoMv3 4 years later  I was trashed by someone who I hadto ban from the game for sexual harassment

Eomv4 internal 2 years later

Eomv5 Current version Switched to a java/mysql hybrid and I can finally after 10 years say its the game I wanted to play and still do.

Extensive rp xp system, crafting, housing, npc's that are as intelligent if not more so than some players *grins*, Its always amusing the first time a player gets arrested by a guard, handcuffed and marched through the city to the city to the chief of justice who can actually jail them, execute them publicly or give warnings (depending on a set of laws that is distinct to every region and city)..

Its not quite an mmo only about 10-30 people play at once and a player base of 200+ from across the world but its home.

(I've thought about going visual licencing a 3d engine etc but no graphics can compare with imagination its like the difference of reading a book imagining your hero then seeing the film, its never quite right, plus you haveto upgrade a graphical engine almost every year)

But and this is the best advice I can give you

1)Don't admin or create a game with friends, friendships can go south the first time you tell someone they are slacking. And if you run a game which your friends play, how many of them will understand when you haveto ban them for cheating because favouritism will sound the death knell of your game.

2)Create a realistic goal and keep to it, i've seen so many well intentioned plans go south because it was just for fun, you need people even if not paying for there skills will actually work for you and work together.

3)Forget ever being just a player again:

When you create your own game you loose some inner child some niave player inside you, the first time your players complain at you, you see yourself a year ago complaining to a developer, when you play other games, you will nolonger see them as games, you will see code, bugs, you will be far harder to please.

I can't myself enjoy and play any other mud out there because simply I see my own place. its part of why I won't make a graphical mmo I play those to have fun away from my own game :)

Basically you will be making this game for others to play, believe me after you have coded, planned skilled and created a beautiful area for your mud there isn't much you will discover as a player.

Apart from all that :)

You have an absolutely huge undertaking ahead of you, I only did txt etc your doing graphics too

A rock solid chat system,

A rock solid save game system

Dbase management, Ai, inventory, basic tools of editing so people can create your game world.

And remember even if its free to play everyone and there mother will complain just like you do and say " I can do better"

As you work through the years of work yes years of work you will probably feel ashamed for how you demanded so much and appreciated so little what these other games you played did.

Good luck to you, personally Part of me wishes i was still just a player playing other peoples games and seeing it all for the first time, part of me sees the comunity on my own mud and people having fun.

Its true TR doesn't need pvp, if I want pvp I fury or Team fortress or Cs, TR is cool as it is, you can't really justify PVP in TR via the storyline because its us against aliens, pve.

Let me redo my post.

CoX is one of the best games out there both for single and group play, it has excellent back story, amazing chance for roleplay and some of the best friends me and my wife have ever met.

Nearly all IF not all online game have this little thing in the Eula "gameplay may change during online play".

Now as a player i've been playing online games for over 20 years, starting with bbs style dungeon games i've played just about every mmorpg out there..

As a developer I created my own online game 10 years ago, its still going and not only has it gone through 5 complete different code bases and revisions, there has been numerous nerfs and rebalancing.

See when you create a game mechanic no mater how good you are, coder/designer/admin you can not NEVER ever estimate or second guess what a player will do with what you give him.

its a completely unknown quantity, no matter how fool proof, how cheat proof you make something, until players try it, your in grey areas.

I spent 6 months creating what I thought in my niavity was a perfect fight system, it was modular and different for every profession every race, included racial hatreds, special attacks, evolution kills, xp for healers xp for fighters, violent deaths, funny deaths, acts of gods.

I took it from a design board to about 400,000 lines of code, it was fun to do but..

24 hours after it hit live some unforseen consequences, I had the brilliant idea of making npc's as real to the code as player driven characters, npc's gained xp, gained levels, kept a list memory of who killed them so they knew who to agro on

I also thought to myself hey, you know how annoying it is to be in a fight but get almost no xp at the end for all your work, well why not give people xp during the fight, xp for a particularly awesom spell combo or a  for taking alot of damage or healing yourself just in time.

This meant no two fights would ever be the same, no two people would come out with the same but everyone whether a healer, caster, pet class, fighter would gain from a fight.

The first problem was total niavity on my part people started healing the monsters they fought because they got more xp if the fight lasted longer lol/

But its now 4 years since I put that code in and its still being balanced

All Developers follow a very simple "risk v reward" simply means they have a data graph of how much xp how much loot how much gain people are getting Versus the risk taken versus the challenge and time, you use that to balance the long term game play and survivability of the game.

evey online game from muds to meridian to eq to Uo to vanguard every one has this and its how they redesign and balance,

its never complete till the game ends and you turn of the servers.

A tip to you, go study games dev, create your own game then wait till players play it, then sit back in wonder as they do everything in your game except what you intended them to do and then watch your game spiral out of control on the "risk v reward" then come back here and say naaa i'll never nerf it...

I see it as a roleplay challenge to rp a female in a game after all it is a "role" play game.

But if anyone ever asks me im happy to tell them i'm male rl.

In fact in SWG and Cov I have it in my bio that i'm male rl

Sitting infront of our computers at work with the lights blaring down at us, how healthy is it ?

Modern life is killing us just slower than a 3 day binge but not many of us say woah lets change things.
