In a word... No. The game only had high initial subs due to hype but lost them due to a failure to meet expectations. You'll see periodic spurts in numbers when new content is released, but only for short periods since the end-game problems still remain. Reworking the end-game to make it more appealing is just too much of a costly enterprise at this stage. If you're sitting back waiting for something or someone to come along and fix it up, sorry to say but you're in for a long wait.

[Column] General: Definining 'Bad' Community Behavior
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/12/13 4:45:14 AM
Trying to define the concept of "bad behaviour" on a global scale is pretty much an impossible task due to conflicting ideologies. Anyone who's gone globetrotting would have encountered inherent social values across different communities that would appear almost alien to them and that they themselves would find rather abhorrent. I don't see why doing so in a global community such as the internet would be much different or any less difficult.

I guess it really depends on what people complain about if I'd agree or not. If you're saying that people who don't pay shouldn't be able to complain (or i.e. have their say, some people struggle to express themselves so it comes across as complaining) then you're rather ignorant of how the f2p model works. Successful f2p games satisfy both paying customers and non-paying customers because it's those non-paying customers that may or may not become future paying customers. We've seen many games go f2p because of a dwindling playerbase, if all you do is roll out the red carpet for your paying customers and ignore the rest then there won't be any incentive for players to try out the game. Furthermore you'll be stuck with the same problem since the only people hanging around are those willing to pay. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I know I've been willing to pay for some games and not for others. Personally I found in games where the line between paying and non-paying customers was finer were far more enjoyable with a significantly better community. In games where moneys nets you significantly more than others, I've found that you have quite a few kids (and sadly some older players too) running around on massive ego trips, which I've never found entertaining. I think what most people fail to realise (and thankfully those who pull the strings usually do realise) is that a lot of complaining is generally from people failing to recognise what they dislike and just venting their displeasure in any way they can. Sure it may be annoying but occasionally there are some legit concerns that may need to be addressed. |

Camelot Unchained: RvR is the ONLY Game
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/11/13 4:05:17 AM
Originally posted by rmk70 Agree with this. From everything they've said, it feels like the target market is going to be quite small. Can't really say that's a bad thing though, every niche needs its own game. Let's just hope the niche is big enough to make the game successful. |

Ragnarok Online: Ninjas Get Second Class Evolution
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/11/13 3:36:44 AM
Man this brings back memories, RO was pretty fun game. Great to hear it's still somewhat alive. Pity the sequel didn't live up to the original, RO2 was a bit of a letdown.

FORUM EXPERIMENT: Do You Play This MMO?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/27/13 7:49:04 AM
Were you interested in this game before it came out? Why? Why not? Yes. Both a fan of MMOs and SW, so when they both got together I decided there wasn't much more I could ask for in a game. Do you currently play this game?: No. If yes, please explain why: N/A If no, please explain why: Great story, raid and pvp content but far too much emphasis on solo content as well as being far too linear and repetitive in progression. Also has a pretty poor space combat system as well as an almost completely useless crafting system. What MMOs are you currently playing and why do you play these particular titles?: Playing Path of Exile atm because it's new and fairly similar to an old time favourite of mine, Diablo2. What compels you to post in this particular subforum as frequently (or infrequently) as you do? I haven't posted much at all in general, but as someone who played the game (and enjoyed it) I like to keep tabs on what's going on with it whilst naively hoping they may fix it up and give me a reason to return (for too costly for them to consider that now sadly). |

Playing again and having fun!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/26/13 8:10:14 PM
Originally posted by Aerowyn I'm not overly knowledgeable about it but if they made the graphics specs higher wouldn't it raise the bar in terms of system requirements? Considering that one of the problems they were having was the small server populations I would imagine that increasing the specs of the game might not be the best move for the game in general. A shame that they're still heavily favouring Jedi/Sith classes. After playing each to 50 (except the Vanguard/Powertech) before I left I got to notice the class imbalances. I guess it makes sense from a business view that you would please the larger player base at the expense of the minority, it's just a pity for those who prefer to play non Jedi-Sith classes. Though I also suppose it makes sense from a lore perspective if the Jedi/Sith are stronger lol. |

Anyone know if they're planning to implement separate PvE and PvP servers for RO2? I know many of the newer games tend to split these servers up due to popular demand for both playstyles. I personally felt the original RO suffered a bit for not having such an option, particularly since some of the more popular private RO servers were open PvP servers. I haven't seen anything indicating that they were planning an open PvP server for RO2, so I was just wondering if anyone else may have heard about anything along those lines. I just get the feeling that without such an option they will have the same problem that the original RO had with private servers, maybe not to the same extent since RO2 is f2p, but they may still potentially lose a significant player base from the lack of the open PvP option.
