Vet rank 2 which is basically level 51.  But there's 10 veteran ranks and they each take about as long as 5 normal levels.

Been playing since early access and /played 10 days 5 hours and change.

That may seem slow but I have two rules with my main: listen to all the quest dialog and never pay for fast travel.

When they pitched us on "Premium Customer Service" in retrun for a sub fee I expected live 24/7 chat moderators or at the VERY least, chat mod bots like they have on Twitch stream chats.

That being said, I suggest everyone grab one of the many spam filters for at least chat from esoui.com.  You'll still get the mails and the guild invites but those are easier to deal with that the chat spam.

Optional chat bubbles yes, optional nameplates yes (but both should be toggled off by default).

And before anyone says it, neither can be accomplished with the modding API.

There is an addon already which activates chat bubbles.

When it comes to Nameplates, I dont want to see them in pvp. Overall Nameplates should be toggle able, otherwise I would say No to nameplates.

No there isn't.  Simple Chat Bubbles addon creates pop-ups not chat bubbles.  They do not appear over the speaker's heads so it is not the same.

I’ve done a lot of research and reading on this game but am wondering if you can help me determine if buying it would be a good idea.

First off, I am a PVP player first and foremost. PVE is ok and all, but once you realize it’s scripted and you execute what you need to do, PVE loses its luster unless it’s to improve PVP (for me).

Here is what I liked about other MMO PVP.

DAoC:

Three factions made the game terrific. How is the three faction thing working out in ESO? Are two sides teaming up or do you find there is a dominate side and the other two just give up?

All scenarios have occurred in the various campaigns.  Some are 2v1, some are dominated, some are balanced.

Are there relic bonuses?

Yes, in the form of caputured Elder Scrolls.

I am not sure how the ranks work in this game but how is the fighting between a ‘high’ rank and low rank. Do PVP ranks matter?

PvP ranks are mostly cosmetic but if you kill a high rank you get more of a reqard in the form of XP and AP (alliance points)

Warhammer Online:

I enjoyed scenarios (BG’s) as they improved the points needed for our realm to progress to the opposing side’s capital. These instanced PVP components meant something for your ‘side’, but were also a good alternative if open RvR was quiet.

What do you do in ESO when its quiet in RVR?

Quest in the RvR zone, craft, quest in the veteran zones, dungeons.

Open RVR was incredible (if you were on a good server – I was). There was measure of realm pride to thwart the other side but there was also a good opportunity for small group play and large battles. I had a blast with 200v200 keep battles (though laggy), but more with how you would run around a corner into a solo player and have some of the best, meaningful ‘duels’. Is it possible for 2 well-coordinated players to beat 4 randoms?

Yes very possible.  But it also depends on level and gear to an extent.  While people below 50 are scaled to 50 stats, their gear and abilities are not so a 1v1 between a 50- and a veteran is not going to go well for a 50- unless they are really on the ball.

Is there an opportunity to find small gameplay in ESO (i.e. 2v2’s, duels, 2v4’s, etc.)?

Yes.

The PVE in Warhammer wasn’t very good but I didn’t mind it because the gear was useful in PVP. The chance at the ultimate shiney to complete a set was kind of cool.

Are there sets, or set bonuses in ESO?

Yes there are many sets, some requiring 3 pieces, some requiring 5 pieces and many of them are craftable but only at certain locations.

I enjoyed having the realm pride to stop the other side, or to at least show my respect for the other (salutes, etc.). I know there isn’t name tags but how do you ‘acknowledge’ the other side?

There's a ton of emotes, salutes, waves, bows, prayers, throat-cuts and such you can do.

One of the best things about Warhammer was keeping ‘score’. This game within a game was done using an add-on (called Demoz Kron, sp?) You could see how you performed against certain classes or players. One of the best long-term experiences I had was knowing if I were plus or minus versus some of the servers best players.

Are there personal achievement goals versus the enemy?

Yes there are daily quests in Cyrodiil that having you killing, capturing, scouting and such, as well as actual story quests in the contestd towns and public PvP dungeons.  There are all kinds of achievements and you will get gear rewards mailed to you periodically for exemplary performance.

SWTOR:

Not many good things I can say about SWTOR but I did enjoy leveling up. It was the first game I felt ‘connected’ with my toon because of the story.

In ESO, do you feel like your main is your main? (hard to explain this but long time gamers will get the question)

Yes, I have 1 main and 7 bank alts hehe.

PVP in SWTOR had its flaws, but I did enjoy how melee weren’t completely dominated by ranged. There wasn’t a real opportunity to kite melee, but there were escape opportunities for ranged.

Are ranged in ESO able to completely kite an opponent?

Not if the melee opponent is smart and has the proper skills slotted.

Finally, a class related question.

My class choices are typically DPS related with either self-heals or moderately  defensive tanks that are able to survive vs multiple enemies while still doing ok damage.

Do these options exist?

In pretty much every class you will be able to create a build like this.  I'd say Nightblade and Templar would be most effective for the former and Dragonknight for the latter but there are so many other skill-lines you can employ it doesn't really matter when it comes to class choice.

Thanks in advance.

No problem.

In other news:

Cars are not bicycles (though both are vehicles).  Dogs are not cats (though both can be pets).  Apples are not oranges (though both are fruit).

I played DAOC for a year and it got pretty stale pretty fast.  Enjoyed Planetside a lot more back then.

And there is realm pride in ESO just because you're too lazy to get immersed in the lore doesn't mean it isn't there, you just want it spoon-fed to you with easy basic racism.  ESO's conflict is deeper and more naunced than DAOC's ever was which makes it far more interesting.

DAOC still exists, if you want a DAOC clone just play DAOC.  ESO is its own animal.  Or fruit.  Or vehicle.

Looks like DA2 combat.  No thanks.
To be fair they started devving this game right after Oblivion came out so Same-y same dungeons were very much in vogue re: TES.

Bank alts for the win.  Costs about the same to upgrade 7 packs from 60-70 than it does to take your bank from 80-90.

+10

I enjoed the game, Untill I reached level 10 and unlocked the "end game" of ESO - PVP. Cyrodiil, specifically.

It was the most boring experience I've encountered in an MMO this far. I had to run from my keep to the enemy keep, on foot, for about 5 minutes.

Arriving there, I was greeted by a hail of arrows and died in a few seconds.

I had to spend another 5 minutes to run back, and was zerged down by 15 enemies in seconds.

Spend 5 minutes running back again.

I might have been going wrong at it, but compared to the PvP Im used to (Wow BG's for instance), this is way too little fighting and waaaay too much running for me.

If PvP is endgame, and this is PvP, I'd rather play something else.

That's both the games and your fault.

It's the games fault for not giving small objectives so that players don't have to just rush to keeps, die and have to run back.

It's your fault for not getting a good group of players or guild, coordinate and prepare for the assualt. In larger scale pvp, coming up against a larger force and getting ganked is part of the game. But like i said, there's nothing for the "small guy".

Except the game does EXACTLY that.  It gives solo, small group, medium group and large group missions in Cyrodiil.  If you skip the Cyrodiil training you'll likely not know they're there so pro-tip if you're an RvR noob, DON'T SKIP TRAINING.

Ignoring the story would make this game boring as hell tbh.
Vamp spawns having nothing to do with lunar cycles.

2 points can still matter depending on where you spend them. I might lose either 2 SP's in combat or in crafting.

I know that 2 out of so many SP doesn't count as much - but it is still a gimped char and is really an issue to me.

Well when the time comes you'll know which choice to make.

No. If a quest gives a skillpoint, it gives it either way. These are normally the storyline and guild quests.

You are still lower level I'm guessing.  There's at least one choice between skill points and item I know of.  Not telling what it is though.

If you get every skillpoint from every quest, achievement and skyshards and level you will have 320.

Yes.  It's actually an AWESOME decision and it really speaks to what type of player you are.  Even so I am level 43 and have 30 unused skillpoints because I'm not crafting.

Getting all those SPs really is only necessary is you want to do both crafting, and PvP/PvE on the same character.

Been using this since it came out.  It's not a replacement for chat bubbles, but it is SUPER useful in PUG dungeons and PvP.

Regardless, ZOS need to implement REAL chat bubbles, add-on or not.

What do you mean "another" survival horror MMO?  We don't have ANY that exist currently.  DayZ/Rust/Nether/Whatever are NOT MMO's; they're multiplayer games that only allow so many people on one server.  And they're all in super early development.

I'm totally understandable about skepticism surrounding SOE, they've burnt me in the past with Planetside too (not PS2, that game is terrible compared to PS1).  What I don't understand, however, is the completely ignorant and childish title for something that is boasted to be the next Star Wars Galaxy style game.  Granted it's a survival horror game, but I can't name a single one yet that exists let alone that was done "well".  DayZ mod was pasted on a terrible engine and is no where near finished, not to mention it's NOT an MMO as mentioned.

I swear, I've said it before that this site might as well be "Blizzard and anyone else not associated can suck it.com" because the only thing that ever seems to get praised around here are their horrible spoonfed, slop of games that a lobotomized monkey could play.

THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS

This is the first true zombie survival MMO.  All the others have been online shooters with 50 people per server.  This will have THOU-SANDS.

Can you imagine the crazy dynamic wars that will break out?  It'll be like EvE on earth!

Color me very excited indeed.

17k horse is for chumps.  42k horse is the place to be.

Nice one Castielle, good list you got going there, any chance you can inlude pictures of the sets worn eventually?  Sometimes the icons don't reflect what they look like on and there's no way to preview them without binding them.

Decisions you make during a quest cannot be world changing because in the end we need to all end up in the same world in order for the game to work.

If the quests had world changing consequences you would be forced to group with people that made the same decisions you did. For example, if at level 15 you decide who becomes leader of a particular city and your friend decides that the city is better without a leader. Then at level 25 there is a quest to go talk to the guy you made leader and he tells you to go look for something in a cave, your friend wont have that quest so now you are going solo or looking for people who made the same decision you did.

That's just one quest, imaging if there were 100 such quests intertwining.

So although I really like the idea of shaping the world with my decisions its just not feasible. There would be so many different worlds out there that it would be annoying trying to get a group of people together that made the exact same decisions you did.

If you want to make world changing decisions you will need to play a single player game.

Usually the changes are isolated to a particular area, like a town.

If you are grouped with a person who made a different decision and you enter that area, you will disappear from view from each other and enter separate phases of the same place.  Same if you are further along in a quest than your partner or vice versa.

What I really love about the questing is that choices you make aren't boring old KOTOR light or dark, good or evil, they are very grey and you really have to weight the moral conundrum.  It doesn't ascribe an artificial morality, shit just happens as a result of your decision, sometimes good, sometimes bad, sometimes VERY unexpected.

The most amazing example thus far:  SPOILERS

A quest involving a low-born woman who was in love with a now-dead noble.  She is trying to contact his spirit.  I do it for her and the spirit appears with his also dead wife.  He says he never loved her and he only pretended to because he and his wife found her desperation amusing.  Now I have a choice, tell her the truth that the guy never loved her or lie to her and say he's waiting for her in the afterlife.  Wanting to spare her the later disappointment I decided to do the "right" thing and tell her the truth.  She was sad, thanked me, I got my quest reward and the quest was complete, done, GONE from my journal.  In any other MMO that would have been the end of it.

The next day I am riding along a road near the ruin when I met this woman.  I spot something off the side of the road.  It's a ghost standing there.  They usually have interesting things to say so even though the ghost has no quest marker I decide to engage it in conversation.  I instantly recognize the name and the voice.  It's the same woman I told the truth to the day before.  My jaw dropped.  Turns out, she couldn't live with it and killed herself and was now trapped in limbo.

This wasn't the beginning of a new quest, this wasn't even marked for me this was just THERE, my action's consequences plain as day for all to see.

VERY INTERESTING! Thank you for posting this.

I did that same quest but I lied to her and told her that he still loved her.

Where did you see her ghost? I want to see if she is there for me too except with a different story line.

Along the southern part of the road near Othernis wayshrine, just NW of the Othrenis ruin.
