Hehe, good one.

But really, it's already disturbing enough that we waste our time by posting for (or should I say: against) this game.

 Okay, you know those somewhat shady games that tend to be manufactured with no support and wholly reliant on micro-trans?  Have you, dear reader, ever played one?  I played Evony for a while and I felt dirty...it just felt shady.  I'd get messages from people I didn't know posing as game admin and asking me account info just before you ignore them.  Most people don't stay in those browser based games because they aren't fun..but there is a sense of discomfort knowing you may be funding the blackmarket in Norway or something.

At the beginning of the year I was thinking of a game to play until December.  I've played them all; the current releases leave me somewhat dissatisfied.  So I happened upon Aion 2.0 trailer and thought "Hell, that looks fun."  Even though I had previously decided not to renew after my first month due to absolute boredom.  There was hope, you know?  In the shape of tinker-toy like houses being constructed and underwater exploration, I became excited.  But I was hesitant..and so instead of opting for the full 12 month plan..I went with 3..just in case.

We'll I've been playing for only two weeks and I have had a bit of fun...but I realized something.  I keep getting these messages, usually about 3-4 a day telling me to go to a site because my account was going to get suspended.  At  first I just ignored them and was done with it.  But gradually these pseudo messages have increased in game, and have made me reconsider the whole MMO thing.  I've played almost every MMO either at beta or launch, and the only other time I've gotten this feeling is when I play those creepy free to play browser games.  Suddenly, I realized...perhaps through Aion I too am funding the blackmarket.  It seems so shady.  Whether it is in game gold sellers or this stuff, I'm getting the sneaking suspicion that something is wrong with this game and it has nothing to do with the grind.  Does anyone get this feeling?  I don't recall anything such as this in Eq,1 or 2, dark age, WoW, CoH, WAR, PoTBS, or Lotro.

Why would you feel that you are funding a black market just because you get a whisper from someone who is not in any way connected to the game?

I get whispers like this in WoW too, regulary. I just ignore them and so can't really say for sure how many whispers, but I do get at least 2 or 3 every weekend. These are spammed messages, usually when I get such a message, someone else who is also playing from the same room gets the same message within a few seconds.

Usually these messages are in broken english, e.g.: "Blizzard is about to launch a new mounts, go get your account stolen on this website: www.getyouraccountstolenhere.cn"

This happens in all mmorpgs where there is something to gain for the thief. Those thieves have no connection to the people creating the game, so I'm a bit at a loss why you would feel dirty about it.

I think you can all see where this is going.

If they do not get enough income trough the cash shop, now that there is no sub fees anymore, then there will be no funding to continue with the game at all.

This game will not last long anymore, unless lots more people will give it a try and are willing to spend money trough the cash shop.

I doubt that server overloading is the reason.

It's more likely that they want to be able to ban cheaters and to only allow a trial once per credit card. Most people dont switch credit cards every day, so it's a good way to limit it to 1 per person.

Perhaps you meant that 1 person would create 60 trial accounts?

In my opinion it does warrant a second mention, though it was early in the morning and probably unintentional.

level based MMORPGs usualy end up with the world revolving around the player and his level. Everything you can and can't do is dependent on it, even when looking for groups for PvE or doing sieges if your level isn't high enough you can't participate. Resulting in most grinding to max level in a race to get there so you can play with your friends or PWN TEH noob.

This is indeed true for most MMORPGs.

Even if a level was just an indication of strength (what it should be in my opinion, no hidden mechanics) then your explanation is indeed a big difference between DFO and the other MMORPGs.

You said no levels twice. (probably intentional :p)

However, just like mmo's that do have levels, a character in DFO who was played for 6 months has much higher stats and higher skills than a character that has been played for only 1 month. Just like in an mmo with levels, a newish character has no chance against a higher level... oops... longer played character.

So is it really so important to name twice?

yes, but in Darkfall 5 noobs can at least stand a chance against a vet, in other MMO's the vets just auto-dodge/evade every attack.

Okay, so the problem isn't levels then. It's some weird dodge/evade mechanic.

if AV put trials many ppl will take trial accounts to teleport hack/speedhack/etc farm chests or trade route

trials=bad idea

"There are no hacks in the game. Sure there were some a year ago, but no one has seen one since." - Quote from multiple darkfall players.

Seriously tho, if trial accounts can be used to abuse the game, then that should obviously be fixed before they allow trial accounts.

Trial accounts should not be a bad idea just because the game is hack/cheat friendly at this moment. (is it?)

Since you started installing it already, you can still easily make it to 80 and get the required gear to join people in destroying the lich king. All before the next expansion is released.

Once the expansion is released, you can forget about it. Sure, people will still kill him to get the achievement, however they will do it with a group of level 85 instead of level 80. Looking back at gear changes from level 60 to 70 and 70 to 80 then there won't be much of a challenge if Blizzard continues with this trend.

If you are only interested in seeing the conclusion of a quest or an expansion, you might as well just watch a youtube of it.

If you don't mind it that there won't be much of a challenge left, and still want to go trough it anyway, then ignore my rant :p

This thread is another fine example of why there should not be a score with a review.

There is no need to say: "Darkfall is a 6". Someone who wants to know about the game will (or should really) read the review and base his opinion about what he read. Not that "6" thats up there somewhere.

Likewise "Alganon is a 5.8" is also rediculous. People can read the text of the review instead and decide for themselves that it is utter garbage. They don't need a 5.8 somewhere high up to tell them that.

Why write so much text in a good written review (this Alganon review is actually good written) if you think you can also satisfy people by giving a single (inflated in this case) number?

Well I am finally going to give this a try. If I like it I know my wife will play and so will my 4yr old son lol. He does well at FPS games and WoW has been excessively easy to him, even the bgs are easy to him. So maybe time for him to upgrade into sandbox pvp, of when he was born he watched momma and I play Shadowbane until it died off. The only real downfall is I have to keep the smack talking while playing to a minnimum, sigh he repeats way too much. See you in the field and look forward to delivering some paybacks, Synester doesn't forgive.

I love this.  People wonder why I don't play WoW and here we have a person stating that the game is "too easy" for his 4 year old.

THAT is why I don't play WoW.  ;)

Does Darkfall have a free trial, out of curiosity?

Don't take anything you read for granted.

Saying you like WoW in the Darkfall forums gives you -10 forum credit.

Making up stories about your 4 year old kid dominating WoW battlegrounds because it's to easy gives you +5 forum credit.

Don't give up on the Darkfall free trial yet, the changes planned for Darkfall do hint a bit on allowing trial accounts.

Edit: to clarify, no trials in the planned changes. Could still take a couple of months.

To someone who does not play Darkfall, this does indeed sound like an exploit.

It's hard to imagine that maxing out a magic skill in one day is intended.

The OP said this could be done. Was that an exageration maybe?

Small question:

If you gather from a tree for example, and your stamina runs out after 10 minutes, or the tree becomes depleted. What do you do?

Do you get up from the couch and miss a good 30 seconds from the movie while you search for a new nearby tree that isn't yet depleted?

 <snip>

Your first point that things are "too easy" is entirely subjective. Too easy compared to what? Its obvious that the majority of Blizzards player base doesn't agree.  If you mean that good gear(that allows one to be more effective in both PvE and PvP) is easier to gain access to, I'd have to agree. But I do not consider that to be negative. In fact, with the addition of the dungeon finder and emblem gear, more people have access to higher level content, and can't be steam rolled quite so easily by high raid geared players.  While that may annoy the raid types, they make up a smaller fraction of the player base, than those who are now benefiting.

<snip>

It is not entirely subjective. Over the last year (or years) the game has been made easier than what it was. This is not subjective, the changes are apparent.

Some examples:

1. There are no longer aggressive monsters in the starting (level 1-5) areas.

2. All content before level 60 have had monster health reduced by 30%, many elite monsters are no longer elite. As a result group quests can now be solo done.

3. End bosses of low level dungeons have had their level reduced.

4. Experience needed to level is halved before level 60. It is much easier to reach that level now.

5. Mounts can now be used at level 20 and fast mounts at level 40. Instead of level 40 and 60. The price of mounts is now 1/10th of what it was. As a result it is much easier to gain faster travel and starting with flying at level 60 instead of 70, you will definately notice that completing quests has become trivial.

6. Good gear to start raiding is much easier to get.

7. Dungeon finder makes it very easy to farm heroics (wich they should not be called). Now this point is very positive, I love the dungeon finder, but I will not deny that it makes it easier.

I agree that none of this is neccesary negative, but it does make it easier than how it was.

Do I think that the game was better a few years ago? Overall no, there is much more to do in the game now. But it is obvious that everything has become easier. And the reason is most likely to cater to a larger audience.

Here are the specifics:

* If you’re a new player entering the game for the first time, newbie protection is on by default. There's an option to turn it off if you don't want it.
* You won't be able to damage other players and other players won't be able to damage you.
* You can only damage monsters.
* The protection only lasts for a few hours of gameplay. There's a visible count-down timer. You’ll get a warning before the protection expires
* The protection is active only in the racial starting areas. If you wander outside your starting area, you’ll get a warning and if you don’t return within a couple of minutes, you will lose the protection.
* There’s a visual indicator that signifies you’re a new player with protection on.
* You can trade and interact with NPCs without restrictions
* You cannot use any items that cause structural or player damage (battle spikes, warhulks, cannons, ships etc.)
* You cannot use mounts
* You cannot unspawn objects
* You cannot teleport
* You cannot use Runestones
* You cannot use portals including Nexus
* You cannot create a clan
* You can give and receive buffs and heals
* You can join a clan
* Newbie protection works only for new accounts
* You cannot skill up on other players or be used to skill up on

Looks good, and it's only for the first few hours.

Will force PK players to search for a little bit of tougher prey than the people who just started and still have to figure out how to draw their weapon.

I think the only people who complain about these changes are the reds who can only win from newbies.

Dunno what to think about DF trolls.
I see many threads about DF being only gank fest and now I see a thread stating there is only PvE in DF. I'm a little bit confused... so DF is now carebear heaven for all WoW PvE raiders?

No one said there were scripted encounters that require a specific role setup for a group of players.

So for about three weeks here I was having a lot of fun in WoW. I have two level 80s, a human warrior and a night elf druid. Thus, I can fulfill all of tanking, dps, and healing roles. However, now that the new dungeon feature has arrived, I find I have absolutely nothing to do. I've run all the dungeons a million times, mastered them, gotten epic-quality gear and let's face it...unless I raid Icecrown there's nothing left to do.

So why don't you raid ICC? What about doing the other raids? You said you have done the dungeons, but what about Naxxramas, Ulduar, Trial of the grand crusader?

It seems to me that you have nothing to do because you don't want to do a major part of the endgame, the raids.

This game feels like it's adhering to such an old formula of MMORPGing. I can either raid or quit now, or start another class I probably won't have fun playing.

Why do you think so? If you think in advance that you don't have fun playing another class, then you most likely won't. But why this attitude? Could it be that you are perhaps done with this game, and should start looking for something else, or maybe take a break from it?

It's pretty sad that I, going to work and school, have essentially beat most of this game and there's nothing but raiding one dungeon left for me. Should a casual player really have trouble finding something to do in an MMORPG with millions of subscribers?

If you don't do the raids, then you have not beat most of this game.

In my opinion, this game has needed alternate advancement for a long time. It looks like I'm unsubbing already.

Perhaps that is the best thing for you to do, you are obviously not having fun playing this game.

This sounds good!

I initially thought Darkfall was only PvP, but now that I have learned about the big PvE part in it, I might try it out sometime when I have more time to play. From reading your post the PvE part seems to take up quite a lot of time.

Perhaps in my next vacation I will give it a shot.

Something like that. It doesn't appeal to the masses.

He managed to do this because those people were to trusting yes, but he also had a lot of help.

1. No visible distinction in the game between a capital i and an L.

2. Clan interface in the game is sloppy, if it is true that deleted characters remain visible (wich i'm not sure that it is, this could be a clever lie for wich his victims fell).

3. The ease of impersonating another character because everyone runs around naked.

4. The accepted way to drop out of a clan when you are going to make an expensive purchase, because of the posibility to war another clan on the spot.

Of course he is clever enough to fool others and gain their trust. But I doubt  this is a very nice person. His racist remarks for one, wich could have been overlooked were it not for his profiles signature.
