Personally I consider SWTOR leveling to be one of the most tedious I've ever experienced. Running from quest hub to quest hub in a very static world is OK with 1st character but after that it becomes really tiresome. Dark side main stories were really fun and well written though and I also quite liked flash points and raids.

My best leveling experience was in TSW and I really enjoyed it's quests and dark atmosphere.

It needs coupe of years more to be re-reviewed imo.
Actually until VR exp boost is an overkill because I was always out leveling quests to grey levels 1-50. 10% to gold isn't any problem either because it's easy to get enough gold in ESO and after buying 42k horse there's little to spend it on other than bank space or alts because you can craft good gear yourself. So this is definitely not P2W.

Well I believe level has increased to Vr14 now.. but when I quit it was Vr12...

6-7 days for 1 to Vr12 is the main reason I quit.

Another 4-7 days for full suit of player crafted armor... under 2 weeks you have a top of the line character with the only improvements being more skill points or the (I wouldn't call it raid) slightly larger than group PvE sets.

Then I suppose you can do what all the games now seem to do for lack of PvE Progression... PvP.

That and the terrible balance of  builds (meaning there was a specific weapon build that beat the rest ... by a lot).

And i really doubt they are going to patch in more engaging end game all of a sudden after B2P switch.  A lot of players quit when they hit lvl cap and yes not everyone is into PVP. For ESO 1 to 50 lvl content isn't the problem it is the end game and lack of grouping tool which really discourages people. Spamming LFG is not my thing really.

And with that I agree completely.

DA:I and ESO. Wildstar gets honorable mention because of it's taxi bot npc. Game itself wasn't any good imho but I used to take a cab only to listen to that bot's rant.

You let people play for free and its not good enough so they bitch. Make it a sub game and same outcome. ZM model is more then fair and game companies need to make money or we would have no games. Strip it down any way you like it, there has to be a reason we want to give them money. They have given us options on how we do that, how can they be any more fair? Give everything away so they have to close their doors in 3 months? Get a grip people.

Agreed. There is always something to complain about. I think this B2P/P2P model is good enough as long as they remember that non subscribers are still game buyers and keep the cash shop in check. The game is not free, cash shop should be decent. Im sure the game will do much better now.

Completely agree with both of you. Personaly I would have liked P2P model much more but B2P isn't bad either IF cash shop remains civilized. I'll stay subbed because monthly sub costs just as much as few pints in a pub.

Nice. Keep those impressions coming, please. I'm too lazy to test anything myself

I find this annoying.

ESO was always a terrible idea for a game.

ES is great - one of the best SINGLE PLAYER RPG franchises ever.  An ES VI would've been great.  ES VI with small scale co-op you could host yourself to retain what makes ES great (impact of decisions, rich content, personal experiences) would've been insane.

I love Skyrim.  So do a few of my friends.  If we could've played Skyrim together it would've been amazing, as one of the few negatives about it is not being able to share something so cool with a few close friends.   None of us wants to share a world with 1000 screaming L3G0LaS99's, exploiters, or even people who aren't wastes of space.  One of the best parts about Skyrm/ES is the intimacy and that's shot once you have 30 people crowding around a quest giver or an empty dungeon waiting on respawns or fighting for kills with bots.

ES as an MMORPG was just a dumb idea.

What's annoying is that because they went subscription based and produced a steaming pile of dookie, it makes subs look bad, and makes all the F2P give me everything for nothing fanbois froth.

There's nothing wrong with subs - it's a great model for GOOD GAMES worth subbing to.  MMORPG history is littered with horrible games that make the whole genre look bad, and which make subs look bad, and ESO is just another example of an MMORPG that should never have been made.

Who are you to say this all? Oh, let me guess - you played MMOs before y2k? Well, I did too and I also play and like ESO.

You don't say!! where is this wisdom when others offer their criticsm about ESO and you ask them silly questions like 'why are you camping ESO threads if you dislike it so much'. Typical double talk BS.

Loss in subscribers wasn't due to payment model alone. Once people start playing it again they will realise it pretty soon.

Actually there's difference between offering criticism and just bashing. All you are doing is just dropping a few negative lines in different ESO threads. This game is far from being perfect but trolling doesn't make it any better. OP took his time to write up his concerns and while I don't agree with many I agree with some.

Sadly don't know if that changes with B2P but some sites are still selling explorer pack dlc (i.e. pre-order pack) separately. For example g2play.net, first I checked, sells it for 1.50 euro.

I quit after 3 weeks too so you are not alone OP. People are so excited about B2P change but they forget that fundamental problems that drove so many players away won't be fixed by change in payment model.  Low population and fall in subs was just the effect and not the causation.

What fundamental problems? Also, why are you camping ESO threads if you dislike that game so much?

Btw, I agree that hot bar is too limited. 8-10 skills is optimum imo but console controller doesn't have more buttons I guess.

Well, as someone who played the game since the first closed beta, I can attest to some of those fundamental problems:

  1. Lack of playstyle diversity. Every character, no matter which class or how you customize it, ends up playing in the exact same way. Spam skills, hold block, occasional dodge roll. There are no interesting underlying mechanics like in other MMOs, which keep things interesting. This is especially true in PvP, where everyone is pretty much required to slot a heal or dmg shield and play a healer type character in order to be competitive. With no cooldowns or drawbacks to using certain abilities, specialization is punished and everyone becomes the same type of "hybrid character", with the exact same gameplay.
  2. Role of CC. This has been an issue with other games, people don't like getting "stunlocked" to death, but removing it entirely (let's face it, it's a "drain stamina" skill, not a reliable CC) is only dumbing down the game. Other solutions could have been explored, but I don't think CC will ever be a relevant factor after B2P.
  3. Lack of attributes & meaningless character progression. Since they made the decision to dumb down the game & use only health, magicka & stamina as attributes, you end up pretty much the same character as everyone else. It matters little how you spend your attribute points, since you'll be fine tuning your stats anyhow with gear, and you are not able to accurately represent your character in a RPG manner (e.g. how strong, agile or smart he/she is etc). This also causes itemization to lack a lot of depth & fun it could've had. Each item in game is just "5 more stamina" or "3 more magicka", until they eventually flat out at max. level, ending up the same across the board (only set bonuses matter).
And I'm sure I could think of others, but these are just the top 3 for me.

As for why people "camp ESO threads", many of us are interested in having quality products in the future, and the best way to make sure this happens is by providing feedback.

Number 1 and 3 are purely subjective and therefore not fundamental. Being a player since closed beta isn't much of an argument either because that alone doesn't make someone's subjective assessment more valid. Tastes are different. I quit ESO and came back later. I like it much more this time.

I'm afraid that scaling content is not my cup of tea. Really did not like it in GW2 and if I'm at max level with good gear I want level 1 mobs to die even if I just look at them. I want to feel progression in my MMO.

You think aoeing a mobs of level 1's feels like progress? Do you think its fun for all the other players in that zone who see mobs wiped out? do you think its fun for your low level friend you joined to help?  There is no point in a mob/zone even being there if you can 1 shot it - that's exactly what you get in games that don't scale - 90% of the content is dead.

This is the difference between games where players are trained to think power is everything against a game that maintains the playability and integrity of a virtual world for all.

Tastes are different. I don't like scaling and I don't kill low level mobs that people are after. There are other ways than scaling to make people return to lower level zones - for example raid areas, dynamic events etc. Or they can remove all levels - from players and from mobs as well. 100% horizontal progression can be fun if implemented well enough. I didn't like how they did it in GW2 though - just lowering player level according to the particular zone.

Good. This game is starting to move under my MMO radar.

I think it's really naive to think this wasn't planned from the beginning.

Also Kano's inside source clearly said that they wanted to release as  B2P when the higher ups decided to go for a sub.

But of course you can once more claim that Kano is just creating rumors, rather than admtting that you have been paying a monthly fee, until the game was ready for the real targeted customers.

Why are you so angry? GW2 player, eh? I'll continue with sub until cash shop is fluff only. Only thing changed for me is an option to unsub and still be able to log in and play. Nobody lied to me. I would have preferred P2P model but these day are gone I guess.

I was very much hyped on EQN until SOE revealed what it will be. It should be named just Next or something without EQ part. New sheriff seems to be interesting though.
Well it's better than F2P and at least Zenimax won't remove my skill bar like BW did in SWTOR. Those 10% bonuses are crap though.

I love it. ESO was actually going to be a B2p game from the start but it was over ruled by a handful of upper execs at Zenimax. The vast majority of ZoS devs wanted it to be B2P at launch.

I owe you an apology, you were right after all.

TSW and ESO are both good.
