Playing my second beta weekend, realizing that its not going to get much better than it is.  But i feel like i've played this combat before and then it hits me.  Star Trek.  Graphically, animations.

Which then made me wonder. Is this animation problem just an issue with trying to make modern or futuristic characters feel alive. Is it easier to make fantasy characters feel more alive cause u have more leeway?

Are there any MODERN mmos that have great animation?  or even halfway decent?  (I don't consider star wars a modern mmo because it's classified as space fantasy)

Animations are a matter of taste and not so bad for some people, like myself. If you don't like TSW then leave it be. No need to spit poison for weeks (checked your post history on TSW).

Yes another thing I missed, they really need to explain things more.

Uh its called discovery, but go ahead wow holds your hand I hear.

Fair point, but I discovered it and there was no one else there. At all. Was kinda dull.

No, it is not a fair point. Hiding something which requires alot of people to function is just stupid.

So you need bread crumbs everywhere to be able to play an MMO? I personally prefer to discover things myself as much as possible.

Depends on what it is. PvP features should not be hidden but rather an integral and accessable part of the game. Now if there was other PvP features and this would be just some kind of side-show, then fine. But having the only PvP feature in the game, hidden is pretty stupid imo.

Specially for a three faction MMORPG which is all but setup for three-way PvP.

Well, TSW is mainly a PvE game with 3 faction optional PvP. There are (don't know if they are accessible in open betas) other PvP areas as well. Think I gonna try them tonight if they are open. Main feature of TSW is PvE though.

Right now - nothing worth spending my time on.

Will be - The Secret World.

Also Interested in - World of Darkness and maybe also Embers of Caerus.

Thats is all.

I liked this article a lot. People who don't play MMOs every day since 90's should write more reviews.

Whats funny is I cant tell an Illuminati from a Dragon from a TEmplar....The character creations were the same for all and so were the clothing options......At least make them have different nationalities or something.....At least in fantasy games I can tell a dwarf from an elf from an ogre.

This is not a fantasy game here. Why should I make difference between a Swedish guy and American? If a faction member wants to wear faction signs, then it's ok but don't start with that dwarf and elf stuff here. Pretty much tired of tights and wands after dozen years of the same.

Error 37, anybody?  Error 3003, anybody?  What?  You wanted to play offline, solo mode?  ROFL!  NO!

Blizzard:  /trollface.jpg to all Diablo 3 players.

My question is... is it time for a price drop?

Because of your Dimmu Borgir sig  I pictured a fat red faced Norwegian teenager flailing his arms and screaming at his monitor in heavily accented broken English as I read this

"Blizzar beck slass trullfayse dot jaypeg tos all dieblo three playars"

lol

Sorry.  Picture a 35 year old Army vet who does MMA, online gaming, camping, and goes to metal concerts.  Aside from that, nobody who is into metal for real flails their arms, especially not black metal.  Moshing is a metal thing.  Arm flailing is for emo kids.

whats funny about any of that though?

Sorry.  Black Metal is not usually funny.  But, there are moments.  Try this:

While I honestly liked my 2,5 months in SWTOR I wonder on what did they spend that astronomical budget. After trying TSW it was in so many aspects more unique and interesting, including story presentation which should have been TOR's trade mark, that I'm starting to think TOR development was mismanaged from start to end. And we know that FC does not have big budgets to blow like EA/BW. And what I've read about GW2 it's also way better than TOR even in beta stage.

I know my opinion here is TSW fanboish but as I said I liked TOR playing my Sith Warrior until non existent end game. I just cannot understand how did they manage to fail in so many departments, turning thriving Star Wars universe into a lifless and sterile plastic.

Reading about D3 it seems to be the worst single player game launch ever. Even MMO betas are more playable

Game of the year in sold copies terms - no way. For me personally - definitely. I'm absolutely sure that GW2 beats all numbers in copies sold and people playing. Personally I hope that TSW can hook me for years and there will be a good community.

Lmao I remember posts last autumn in SWTOR forums going like "Thank you Bioware for tireless work making this this awesome game!" After SWTOR relase a few months later those clowns removed their "VIP member since (insert CE pre-order date) sigs and started to whine. All I want to say it's a bit premature to praise an MMO company without seeing their final product. And the state of cash shop after relase.

I think you are confused, I am praising the publishers ethics, not the game.  To which i think we all should be thankful exist.  THey have said time and time again they have no intention of rushing this game out (we still don't have a release date).  I think that says a lot about them.

If you like the game or not, that's a you thing, but you can't say that they are pushing this game out in an unfinished mess. You can't say they comprmised their "style" to make it easier to program or to use a previous game's engine and save some money.

And why should I praise them for that? Should I also thank company X for making a working cell phone I use or company Y baking a bread without a gillette in it? We all know that most MMOs released during the last 6-7 years were pure garbage and excact copy of previous garbage.

I did not say anything against GW2. Not interested in it but that does not mean it's a bad game.

One thing is to expect companies to create/making a working product, another is for companies to create/make quality products. More often than not, quality products are a rarity. In the gaming world, the standard is the pieces of sh*t made by EA Games, the rarity comes with Blizzard's WOW (at least before Cata), and in my humble opinion, Anet's GW2.

What I think dontadow is referring to is not being greatful to a company for making a working product, but for taking their time and possibly/probably losing some money (monthlys subs/late release) for the sake of making a quality product; in this case, GW2.

Exactly what i'm trying to say. GW2 is losing money to make this product polished. I can say the same thing for Trion, who developed a very well polished product in Rift (the only real neccessity it did not have at launch was a dungeon finder).  These companies are losing money to bring this quality.  I can guarantee they could have released their products a few months ahead of schedule (in rifts case this would have been more profitable, putting them in the xmas season).

I was playing a game last night, and didnt think that i'd wake up this morning still thinking about it.  Companies aren't going to loose anything by bringing out a bad game.  They fire some people, toss money into marketing, and voila profitable. But the game itself is not what it could be.  I've always thought games as art. There are a lot of corner portrait artists out. But every now and then you get publishers (usually indy) who realize that game design is an art, and put extra effort into it even if it costs them a little more.

I can agree with that and hope that GW2 succeeds. Hey, the more quality MMOs we have, the better. Gonna play TSW myself just because I really like modern day horror theme but I must admit that GW2 will certainly come out with much less bugs and problems. Who knows, maybe I'll buy GW2 too if it's polished enough.

I guess there's a main story line for every faction, maybe like 10% of content with faction rep quests (?). Don't know any specifcs though.

3-1 here. Pretty much I'd give it a 3, simply because it's the same damn game we've all played and adds nothing new.

Did you play it? If not you are trolling here.

So why must we trust your assesment of the posters here? What makes your opinion more valid?

Imho the question is not about trusting opinions here but about lies some people spreading to talk certain game down. It's a growing trend - person A does not like game B and in most cases the reason is not even objective, and then he hops from thread to thread spitting poison and in some cases even spreading wrong information.

Another tactics they use is thread hijacking - people discuss in civilized manner about features or lack of them in certain game X, then a game Y fanboi jumps in and says something like "game X sucks lol". People continue their discussion, then another Y jumps in, saying "Y does things way better and X is crap". Now someone tells Y fanbois to bugger off and flamewar starts. Mission completed - any kind of meaningful discussion is killed and maybe even one or two X players temporarily banned for telling Y fanbois to f*** off.

If you read some more popular topics here carefully then you see the pattern. Every single MMO is trolled that way - GW2, TSW, Tera, SWTOR you name it.

I'm in. Waiting for years was worth it.

As a TSW fanboi or something I think that this an honest and good review

The only thing I have to say about the "Awesome Lore" babble that is being touted. Buy a book instead. It's cheaper and they usually do not come with a monthly fee.

Well, some people can spend a few euros on monthly sub and still buy books. Honestly, f2p is not a good argument for many people. And TSW is a great MMO, many like it and many more will discover and start liking it. Sad for you but true :)

I just want to say thank you guys for hating the game cause I managed to buy TSW on ebay by bid for $10. (Digital download)

I'll have something to play and enjoy while you guys jump on the next game to hate :)

Cheers! :) Should have waited with my pre-purchase had I known that lemmings first buy the game, realize in the first beta they don't like it and then sell it for a tenner. Think I'll avoid mmorpg.com forums when much over-hyped GW2 comes out because I predict tons of poison floating around here.
