Was my question really that ridiculous? I figured since the box says 30 days free, it would be strange to give 30 days free to some players and not to others. Since this is an all inclusive pack, I wasnt sure if it was an across the board 30 days free to anyone who buys and activates.

I guess I will just make a new account.

Hi there, just a quick question.

My account has been deactivated for about a year, but with all the accolades the new expansion is getting, it has been difficult to ignore.

I have purchased the new expansion, but will adding this expansion to my turbine account reactive my LOTRO account and give me 30 days free? Or will I still be responsible for paying to get the account reactivated?

I ask this because in my past gaming experiences, expansions did not give free game time. Back in EQ, if you bought an expansion that was great an all, but it did not have anything to do with your account's current subscription.

I know I can always make a new account to get the free 30 days, but if I could get my old characters back by using my old account, that would be even better.

Thanks for your help.

I understand both of your concerns.

As much as I did have fun in RvR, I always also enjoyed the PvE aspect of DAOC. I always thought it was just as good, in fact better actually, than EQs. So even though RvR would be lacking in regards to this guild, the PvE aspect of hitting all those old dungeons, like Spindel or Trollheim, or that one big city out in Albion SI zone (the name slips my mind) would be pretty awsome for me.

There are a couple popular MMO blogs run by individual gamers who are a part of a guild called "Nostalgia" in EQ (and EQ2 as well I think). Essentially what they do is play the game from the start, using the areas and items only available to them that would have been there when the game was young and in its prime. They level up together and do specific dungeons in order of level progression.

In a way, they are a guild that self imposes a progression style server environment, completely free of  the influence of the bigger and greater things going on around them.  This gives them the opportunity to rediscover and replay some of the most memorable aspects of the game, the way it was meant to be played, without all the new super gear one is able to get from newer expansions.

I am not a part of Nostalgia in any way, but I admire their desire to replay such a game in this manner. Had I learned of them earlier when they first started and before they got too far ahead in levels, I surely would have tried to join.

I am wondering if there is any interest from old DAOC players who would like to do the same things with DAOC? We could start a guild, agree to meet and play once or twice a week, and level up together in the old lands and doing dungeons for all our equipment and money, you know, like games used to be. Of course the game has changed a bit, especially a lot of the starting areas so we would have to discuss the rules further and get some concrete ideas on how to do it. But if Mythic wont give us the origins server, lets make our origins style guild and enjoy the game the way it was meant to be enjoyed, before it is gone forever.

Is anyone interested? If so please respond here and also please spread the word to VN boards to see if anyone is interested there as well. I have a loathing for VN, but I know it is still a hotbed of DAOC activitiy so it would be a great place to ask others as well. Let me know what you think.

Hi I am interested in trying the "come back" weekend however I have a question about the different versions for downloading. I want the high defintion resolution client, but I am wondering if my original discs I bought when the game came out contains the this client or the standard resolution client. It seems like I could save a ton of time just re installing instead of downloading 8 gigs.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I play a SW and I believe that I play the class fairly well and utilize most of the tools offered to me. That being said, we are definetly the weakest of the bunch.

I see a lot of people saying "Root" tanks and get away to a distance again. Well let me tell you, I dont know what other classes get, but EVERYTIME I get a tank up close and I use my AOE root, I too am also snared and they still manage to womp me over the head two or three times before I am out of range. Once out of range, their thrown axes are wopping me at a rate doing nearly as much damage to me as I can do to them with their heavey armor on. So this idea that rooting is somehow some huge tool that bad players arent using is a falsehood.

Second, as far as DPS goes, anyone who thinks tanks are our "buffets" is missing something. Their HPs and heavey armor make my arrows seem like im peppering them with spitballs instead of sharp pointy objects. The fact is I dont even bother shooting tanks anymore, its just a waste of time and energy. Yes, its that sad.

What dissapoints me most with the Shadow Warrior is this.... there is nothing about the class that is either "Shadow" nor "Warrior". As a "Shadow" Warrior, we should have a limited stealth ability or at least a positional bow ability that does massive DPS. IE, we strike from the shadow where no one is looking. As a Shadow "Warrior" we should be able to wear at least medium armor like the WH, or duel weild like the DK. Hell in the opening video the SW is duel wielding.... when do I get that?

All that being said, I do like the SW class and feel that it has potential. I know that .... wait let me reiterate... I KNOW that Mythich realizes how underpowered and gimped this class as and will do something to help it out very soon. When that happens, I will be in a great position to have a pre established FOTM class, and wont need to roll one from scratch! lol

I love the game, but I do agree with the OP. I have only three complaints with this game and by far this is my biggests. I still love the game though!

Well... we have truly and officially passed the torch to the next generation. I honestly never thought I would see the day where someone was comparing WOW to another game and explaining how WOW offers quests and gameplay that is difficult to the point where achievment is satisfying.

You want satisfying, play EQ1. When I played WOW that was my primary argument. Everything was handed to you, quest icons, quest markers, choose of rewards, insane amounts of quests, quests that are easy...  In EQ when you were lucky enough to find a quest, it was never just go and kill x of these and come back. You traveled across 18 zones, talked to 49 different people, had to get 7 different faction standings, waited 9 hours for an NPC to spawn, then finally killed some extremely underconned mob .... that was a satisfying end. Then when you got the quest reward, it was junk in 10 levels.

Wow is a kiddie game, and WAR is a kiddie game to. Its like trying to determine what game is more sophisticated Candy Land or Hungry Hungry Hippos. Just enjoy the game for what its worth, when it becomes boring then move along. I like WARs PvP and think that is what will define it when the hype is over.

I just bought it today and just finished playing it for a couple hours. Honestly, I like the choices available to you at level one and I don't have any problems with the character movement or animations. I like all of the extras, such as the Tome of Knowledge. I'm still quite a bit confused with the game, because I am new, but I've done a couple scenarios and a few quests already. I Rank 3 Reknown 2.

The only complaint I have, if you can call it that is that the community doesn't talk...at all. I'm trying to find a Fan Website to find a guild to join, to alleviate that problem.

I'd say my first impression is good, and I was expecting to be bored with the game and tire of the immaturity in the community soon after rolling my first character. However, I am not bored of the game and had a hard time logging off to do some studying, and the community doesn't speak with each other at low levels, from what I can tell, so I can't say they are immature.

You bought a game you expected to be bored with and be annoyed my the immaturity of the community as soon as you rolled your first character???

Get off the MMO addiction man.

Ok thanks for the info. Like I mentioned, the new expansion looks good, just dont think I could do all those noobie areas all over again. Hopefully with Rohan or something in the future they will open up a new starting area.

I am just wondering if the new expansion is higher level content only (40+) or if the new zones will run the full gambit of 1-60 including a new starting area. I played LOTRO in the past and left mainly because I did not like any of the classes. I like the concept of the new Runemaster class and would like to try that. However I do not know if I could go and do the same zones all over again from the original game. Anyone know about this?

Hi, first a quick backround.

I played Vanguard at launch, and eventually left when the economy tanked due to all the duping, that was the final straw for me.

I came back shortly after SOE bought the game and made some changes. They fixed the plat duping but they screwed up the way you equip weapons and armor and moved it to the level system, which was a bad decision imo. Anyhow, I left again shortly thereafter because the servers were very lightly populated AND because lots of bugs still in game for diplomacy and quests.

I been reading the forums and people keep talking about how SOE has made the game solo oriented. Now I am not sure if this is just people complaining that there is a lot of early solo content in the game, or if SOE has actually gone and stripped mobs down from 4 to three bubs and some 3 down to two bubs difficulty level.

Because I will be honest with you, I am a casual player now that I am 30 years old and I have more crap going on then when I was raiding in EQ 4 nights a week several years ago. I get about 4 nights a week to play and usually no more than 2 hours at a time, if that. In all my time playing Vanguard, I only got to level 28 and it felt like it took a long time to get there in contrast to games like EQ2 and WOW, and this was during launch. The second time i tried the game I just made a ton of Alts to see different parts of the world and never really leveled them up, I think I got one of the little fox dudes to early 20s. But even then I noticed that once I hit that mid 20ish level, suddenly everything was turning into group quests and 4 bub mobs and it was difficult to find more solo content.

My question then I guess is, did SOE really make these changes and the game is now more solo oriented? Or are people just complaining because solo is an available route if you want to grind for hours and hours alone. I know lots of supporters of this game want group oriented content and dispise solo stuff. I remember EQ2 at launch was ALL About the group play and they have completley changed that now and its possible to solo 1-80 and have fun doing so. Has Vanguard become this way yet? Is it moving in that direction?

Thanks for your help.

I am interested in playing UO again after many years. My impression of the KR info I have seen really makes me want to play again.

However I do want access to all the conent, not just the base game. If I get UOKR does this give me access to all the content or just the base game and none of the expansions?

Do I first need to purchase and install the 9th anniversaty edition in order to get all the content or does all the content come bundled with UOKR?

Thanks for your help.

Really? So you think its best to go with just ONE 8800 512 mb instead of two 8600's? That one 8800 is really better than the other two combined? Why? If this is the case then I will take your advice, but please verify if you can. Thanks

I am about to pull the trigger on a deal for a new PC, here are the important "gaming" specs of the PC. Will I be able to play higher than medium setting and get good results with this? Thanks

Hi there, was wondering if someone who still plays would be interested in referring me so that I can get the 14 day trial, and if I stick around you will get the kickbacks of it. If you are interested email me at rrusso11@rochester.rr.com  thanks!

After ToA: 250,000 players

After WoW release: 200,000

6 months after WoW: 175,000

March 2006: 125,000 players

Oct. 2007: 95,000

So no players lost because of ToA contrary to common opinion.  I am sure some did, but not a mass exit - at least until there was something else to play.  WoW cost around 75,000 players or 30%.  This holds with what happened to almost every other mmorpg.  The huge loss of players, combined with neglect and slow changes from Mythic causes an additional loss of 50,000 players.  Rapid changes of key issues has slowed the bleed and created somewhat of a stable population.  A small decrease over the past few months has happened – maybe a loss of 5,000-10,000 players mostly due to attrition and lack of progress of building the game player base back up.

With either marketing, a super-cluster, (most likely both) then the subscription numbers could back and hold steady at 125,000 on the assumption that WAR is significantly different from DAOC (which so far it seems like it will be) to give DAOC its own audience.  A combo offer could also hold to keep the numbers somewhat steady.

Baring something else, then I would expect another 10% drop in the population in 6- 12 months, with the total number of subscribers going down to 40-50,000 after 18 months and holding there indefinitely.  Those people just aren’t going to leave unless the servers are shut.

You are absolutely wrong, I am a living testament that people left because of TOA. Sure , we stuck around for a couple months to try it out, but soon we realized it was the greatest timesink in all of MMOs at the time, and if one wanted to compete in RvR it had to be done. Thats when I said "no way" and unsubbed. I personally know at least a dozen other people who did the same thing.

A few days back I had asked the forums if they though this was a game I would enjoy, and I listed some things that I was looking for in a game. I got some mixed results back, but with my dissapointment in LOTRO I opened my box and installed. I must say that this game is AMAZING! I can understand how people who are fond of games like WOW and LOTRO would not like it though, it is nothing like those games at all. I think both WOW and LOTRO are beautifully designed games and are streamlined for players to have lots of fun. But I also dont think those games are truly made for the MMO'er in mind. I think those games arre MMO's but made for anyone to be able to jump in and learn how to play and have a blast doing it. I think LOTRO is a finely polished and fun game, but it WASNT FOR ME!

Vanguard on the otherhand... well wow! As soon as I started playing I got those warm EQ fuzzies in me and it was like going back to an old warm blanket. I felt so immersed, I felt like the possibilities were literally endless and that was just my first impression! I went on to play for about 6 hours and I loved every second. I think the crafting is complicated, I tried the tutorial but I still dont fully get it. The Diplomacy thing is kind of cool but I just dont know what its used for yet. The community I ran into was FABULOUS!! Everyone was so helpful and giving. Someone was always willing to answer my questions, two people gave me some free gear and one guy even stopped his adventuring to come and craft me about 2000 arrows and baught me a quiver!

I have to say that my first night in Vanguard was the best I have ever had in an MMO aside from perhaps the original EQ. I know the game isnt for everyone, but if you liked EQ1 and "old school/first gen" style MMO's then this IS the game for you. Anyone who is seriously interested in this game and THINKS they may like it because of its connection to old style MMOs or want a more free exploring and challenging game I seriously reccommend this. I loved WOW and I loved LOTRO I think they are both great games, but at times I felt like the game was playing itself and I was just along for the ride. This game make me feel like I can really do anyhing!

PS I have not been "mcquaided" because I listened to the haters and stayed away from this game for months, had I not been bored and tried it out I would never have known that I liked it.

Thanks for all those who responded to my other posts. I am on the RPing server so please say hello sometimes!

Funny thins is, seconds after I posted that I found exactly what I was looking for. I was refering to the "campaigns" idea on the servers, the every 6 months thing with a new campaign that leads up to some huge realm wide raid. Has that been implemented yet and if so how is it going?

I was reading some other posts and the thing I found out that shocked me was the fact that now on clustered servers you can switch characters between realms instantly witth no wait. When I stopped playing I think it was reduced from 8 hours to 30 mins. I thought 30 mins was bad enough, but wow instantly? Some poster was saying that people now will switch sides right in the middle of the battle to join whomever is winning so they get RPs regardless. Plus it seems pretty easy to spy and give info to the other realms about planned attacks, strategies and relic raids. Is this the kind of thing that is going on in this game now?? Please say it aint so!

A few months ago I read something about the future of DAOC and it talked about all these changes and additional server rulesets. I remember at the time I was very interested but can no longer seem to remember where I read it and what the exact details are. DAOC was not my first love in the MMO genre, but it remains my greatest. I left the game when Darkness Rising came out and havent seen the game since. I understand it has gone through some graphic changes and other minor tweaks. I am interested in coming back if and when these new ideas are implemented, but I cant seem to find this news anywhere. If anyone could refresh my memory or link me a spot where I can read about it I would be very appreciative. Thanks
