people here will cry about bacon unless it has full loot pvp bacon drops and sandbox built bacon with lego's.
Yeah I agree with most here , this game offers a large variety of things to do while your leveling up. I found getting a treasure map a great way to get lost in the world and avoided looking up or asking for locations of the buried treasures just so I could get lost and explore. Add in the dark anchors or public events a long with the quest lines and story and many side quests that run up to you out in the middle of nowhere or you find a object laying on the ground etc. It makes for a lot of refreshing game play. I loved this about GW2 also , but I also felt they didnt do enough in that game to do anything different other than the public quest system. Plus the reward system is far better than GW2 rewards for sure. I look forward to release and my time in ESO.
I agree with most here I enjoy action combat but when its made with 100 spins and sword swipes in a milisecond it breaks my personal immersion. The game is pretty though just a bit to asian/eastern for my tastes personally. Im glad to see more and more action combat style games coming out though and not the old school click and point tab target games.
heh i see she/he/it did not come back at any time in this thread started saying any other reasoning behind what they said or to back up anything thats been brought up. Oh well I was right in my first reply before it was edited by a mod. Some people just love to start drama on here and have no intention of even being part of a conversation.

I would much rather have a 15 dollar a month pay wall up any day of the week then a store in game that is selling things that I cannot get in game like SWTOR or interface pieces. Thats the problem also with very large games with huge budgets and investments, they go the way of SWTOR and end up with a horrible cash shop instead of say something like rifts cash shop and free to play restrictions.

The only hindering factor in this I see is some players will just be cheap and not want to pay a sub fee and players whom leave and want to come back after a few patches for new content. That can cause a lot of players to not come back and try it because of the pay wall. I know that has in the past kept me from going back to games myself , not sure if the changes in a patch made would make the game worth a monthly fee etc.

I honestly think this game is going to be a success personally though , I think a lot of people for the name alone are going to buy it and play it at least for the free month included. There is millions of elder scrolls fans around 20 million sold as spoken on and if they sold hell even 5 million boxes they get their money back im sure. Will this game be that successful in the long term? who knows thats up to the dev team, if they continue to develop their game and add in new content monthly like other mmo companies do, this game can easily be the next wow. Thats entirely up to the dev team though and how they want to develop long term. They have the IP to rival wow and they have the console crowd already also, wow never had those options but its entirely up to them in the end and their approach to content.

Too much unnecessary hate for this game.It actually one of the better f2p mmo out there. You don't NEED anything from the cash shop to progress.

While I do agree with the statement of it being one of the better free to play titles quality wise , the statement of not needing anything is kinda ridiculous. You need runes to progress that requires lots of astral diamonds to buy wands, since praying doesnt work anymore hardly for the once a week deal. Not to mention they have added relic slots now 3 of them which also require a butt ton of astral diamonds to upgrade from white to green to blue to purple to orange etc and potentially costs you millions of astral diamonds. You can only refine 28k a day and even if you cap you are looking at months and months of work just to upgrade your runes and relics. Not to mention you will have limited bag space unless you bust out 400k AD or 10 bucks for a 24 slot bag. Mount to slow upgrade it for 300k or 8 bucks. Need your companion to give you larger stat bonuses thats another 300k then 750k . The list goes on and on and on.

This game has probably the worst free to play cash shop in the history of western made mmorpgs and the company behind the studio perfect world has zero intention of lowering costs and doesnt care if you play or leave like the rest of their game titles they own.

you guys are so jaded and complain about everything. So more leveling options and fun gets thrown down to Rift did it first so its meh? Seriously some of you need to get lives and check your attitudes. Rift took all that mess from warhammer and guild wars 2 took it to the next level from Rift. It adds fun proven options for players to enjoy besides quest grinding.

oh u didnt !!!just mention warhammer n gw2 in the same sentence as rift...

Rift so original ...well they literally carried the same concept into a scifi show...

lol ha Yeah I for one loved the entire public quest thing in all of those games. Anything that adds verity to leveling gets my approval. More options makes games better, and in Rift that was the only way I enjoyed leveling was doing Rifts and events and the warfronts. Im glad ESO is using games like that to draw some of the best features from and improve upon them.

From different posts, threads, tweets, reviews, and video gameplay what i've gathered is that the majority believe the "quality" isn't there to justify demanding $60 box price + $15/month subscription.

From experience this just means the game itself can't justify its own development costs for what it has proven itself to be actually worth.

There are games where F2P just isn't a viable option, and then there are games that it fits quite well in.

Is this just the "F2P" crowd demanding another new product conform to their viewpoint, or are the claims valid that TESO isn't worth a standard P2P model? Without having gotten to test/play TESO yet to form a 100% concrete opinion, do you guys think this is the case?

Sorry for the new thread, but I felt a more directed question on the subject was needed. I've only seen threads about people complaining about the complainers for F2P, or why people don't "get" F2P :).

no this is 150% the free to play crowd screaming for it not being worth its cost monthly. Also its the sandbox crowd screaming its going to be all doom and gloom because it has quests in it and you cant play lego's all day. This game is coming out on consoles and pc , This game contrary to this sites jaded members beliefs will not be free to play for a very VERY long time unless it completely tanks on PS4 and Xbox which I highly doubt. 15 bucks a month is water in a bucket compared to the high prices of a cash shop in the end.

If a company asks you to test a game for them, using your connection, your time, your PC, ... they should be paying you.

Paying to beta test a game is one more of these ridiculous F2P concepts that creeped into this genre.

"But I like doing it"...many people like their job too, that doesn't mean they don't want to get paid.

Have some self-respect, my God.

There is some indie games this actually does work well for but the companys have to also be honest from the get go. Games like 7 days to die and the dead linger have preorder which includes all alpha and beta access and you can immediately download the games so they are basically paid beta, alpha. But the devs in both of those games take feedback seriously and implement things asked for by the community into their games and change things accordingly. Some games would have very slow development or not be here at all if it wasnt for the paid beta/alpha and kickstarter games. My favorite all around game right now is 7 days to die and I can tell you they couldnt get funded but as soon as it hit kickstarter it was a instant success and continues to drive in profit growing a large community. So its really up to the player to research before they invest in games that offer early access.

I have to agree with superman0x here, free to play came about because so many big name mmorpgs and companies released a lot of garbage into the market and the asian companies were trying to find a way to pry subscribers in the western audience away from their western games. The only way doing that was to release games as free to play and run a expensive cash shop instead. True free to play games started in korea and china, not here in the US or Europe. I remember the first free to play games back when it was first being experimented on here, games like rubies of eventide that were complete flops pretty much but a niche crowd but it never caught on at all as the games were never really any quality.

I personally do not see how any of these free to play titles that flood the market even make money at all as most of them are dead in population and expensive in their cash shops for garbage games to begin with. The games like EQ2 Rift SWTOR, the triple A published titles were in a steep decline and is why they did what they did. It had nothing at all to do with market trends and pretty much everything to do with the fake the games were stale and bland and people were just tired of those games at the time. SWTOR was the exception because it wasnt that the game was bad at all, it just was so linear with no end game when it released and it bled subs rapidly.

With ESO people want this game to be free to play so they can jump in and out of it when they please and some people here are just cheap and expect everything for free. If a game is good quality and continually updated it will keep subs and grow just fine, look at wow and Eve. If this game went free to play and say used the SWTOR style of cash shop it would piss off so many people its not even funny. Or if it decided to have a cash shop like neverwinter there would be even more outrage and seem cheap. I think the sub model fits this game fine as long as the cash shop offers services or mounts like wows does and not selling gear and other garbage.

Not sure what games you been playing but in FFXI grinding mobs was anything but plain and simple.I could write a novel on all the various things that could happen, anything from aggro when pulling, top having a spawn back on you while fighting another mob,to having a bomb blast kill 1/2/3 party members.Good luck fighting without Dispel on a creature constantly putting up a defense buff the list goes on and on.

Now let's compare a quest,is there really any tough quests,i mean anything you feel is difficult?

If a game is simple combat like Wow,press a few icons on a hotbar and watch the add-ons TELL you the rest then ya it might get real boring. However in FFXI we were fighting mobs 6/7/8 levels above so any links are trouble, you cannot run from a mob,it chases you forever, also if the tank or healer goes down, the party is in big trouble.

In comparison, not all but MOST quests can be and are designed to solo with no skill at all, even the party quests are usually weak sauce.

Point is old school might be gone, but is is sorely lacking,a GOOD solid game design will work for any type game as long as the combat ends up very tough and usually grouped.

Newsflash for ya:  FFXI grinding sucked.  BAD.  This game you keep comparing every current game to was one of the dullest games I've ever attempted to play.

So maybe, just maybe, your point of view isn't always the correct one, yeah?  Maybe people have differing opinions about what makes a fun game.  And maybe your opinion isn't shared by all.  That being the case, maybe you shouldn't post only in absolutes all the time, particularly regarding your own opinions.

He's basically saying that the majority of today's mmo content is mind-numbingly easy. I agree with him.  They are essentially interactive movies.  They hold your hand, tell you where to go, and don't give you anything challenging to go up against.  There are less and less brain-required interactions in these games.

For the FFXI combat example, he's showing how combat can be challenging and there are consequences for making mistakes.  In order to minimize these mistakes you increase you're skills through experience and use of tactics and feel a sense or accomplishment when you succeed and are rewarded.  Most of today's mmo's reward you for very little effort and dont provide an engaging experience.

The point is whats the point of a GAME if you don't have to actually PLAY it.  Of course people have differing opinions on what GAMES should be, but many people like myself and Wizardry want something that has depth, engages us, and allows us to feel a sense of mastery when we do well.  If we wan't minimally interactive entertainment, then we go watch TV or a movie. If we want to play a GAME we want one that has deeper interaction.

I can agree with your statements here somewhat myself but im kinda polar opposite of what I want in a game. When I just busted my ass all day at work and want to come home and relax listen to two screaming toddlers I do not want the games I play to be hard core like wow heroic raiding , though when Im in the mood for something very challenging I like that option to be in game. I like to relax, hear a good story and get lost a few hours in a mmorpg world and enjoy my evenings. Not be stressed out spending all night long trying to beat one npc that is ridiculously hard to kill or spamming a channel trying to find a group because every single thing is group content. I guess you can call me casual but I play daily for a few hours a night etc. Hell even my favorite survival sandbox 7 days to die is not hard where you just get frustrated etc.

My point is some people play games for story and interaction but without huge challenges all the time as that to some of us is like having a second job etc. Challenges should be there for those that want them but the entire game should not be hardcore all the time and obviously ESO devs felt the same way.

That is how TESO is designed.

Yeah I know I just am trying to follow the rules somewhat and not break the nda and say a game instead of that game :P

So based on these comments, I guess the only solution is to eliminate quests entirely from mmo's because no matter what it still revolves around talking to SOMEONE or doing SOMETHING (which means grind), and also eliminate mobs from mmo's since we shouldn't have to kill things to level up (GRIND).

So, let's institute a policy of just standing there on screen results in constant xp gain and level ups - since literally everything else is a grind and we don't want that right?   Damn even that sounds like a grind.  Let's eliminate all games!!!   Only solution!!

most of these guys here complaining want a skill level system like star wars galaxies and a sandbox world that they do not quest in at all just play with lego's all day. I prefer random NPCs running up to me asking me for help or going exploring and finding a treasure map or item that starts a chain of events. I think if that cannot make some of these guys happy nothing will.

That is the only gripe I have about this game- the 5 slots

I didn't care for gw2 weapon swap to get more skills nor do I this.

I played a ton of skyrim since release and even added in the perks mods to change up things. With that being said I found the skill system amounts fine considering you didnt have any hotbar in skyrim just your power and fast attacks.

I was kinda excited for this when it was first talked about here . But after reading the interview and listening to Rob Denton whom run warhammer online into the ground I have absolutely no faith at all in them doing anything remotely like making this game modernized or up to date. Also I had friends at mythic whom lost their jobs because of this douche bag so this is kinda personal to me after reading his arrogance. The fact he is sounding his own horn so much instead of giving credit to the 80 plus devs he had laid off speaks volumes about him.
I hate it and the living story !!! well actually i enjoyed my time in guild wars 2 and enjoyed some of the story but hey I just wanted to mess with Dinos. I would like to see them open up some more skills and weapons and I would def be back to try it out and see how things are coming.

lol if you think mashing 15 buttons or four hot bars worth of skills takes skill then stick to your tab targeting games. Even players in wow are sick of ability bloat to the point blizzard is addressing it in this upcoming expansion. As this game being ugly and the character models are terrible? I guess of a matter of opinion but show me a better looking mmorpg please? Guild Wars2 arguably is about it and thats a matter of opinion because some of that models in that game look ridiculous imo.

[mod edit]

Im one of those players that have picked up the imperial edition and enjoyed the game in the beta events the last few months. IM also a old school DAOC player whom can appreciate the tri realm vs realm and see tons of potential with it. DAOC was not some smash hit either compared to games of its time like EQ. But it held a large playerbase that enjoyed the pvp and the lore of DAOC. I even had some friends that never played any pvp at all in DAOC whom stuck to cear sidi raids and darkness falls, they still enjoyed the game a lot.

With that being said and NDA TESO fulfills my old school DAOC feel and Im pretty happy with what I saw. I think a lot of people who do not mind themeparks are going to enjoy this game in the end especially the skill system.

I bought a toshiba excite about a year ago and was pleasently pleased with the tablet but then I got the new droid phone and it plays games super fast even compared to that with similiar specs and now I wonder why I wasted 400 dollars on the tablet. Last time I was on a windows tablet there was hardly any game support from android and google play has this changed? Also are the 8.1 tablets actually laptop/pc gaming ready nowadays? I know ive seen tech videos of them running games like wow but it looked to stutter a lot of the time and lag behind. Also the prices were more than a laptop for anything good as this changed also finally?
