play it like old school daoc. Get to vr 1 in a good guild and grind craglorn burials for about a week and you will get to VR12. Thats probably the fastest way to VR12 currently until they change the experience flow with the champion patches coming. Its still one hell of a grind and not one you want to run your alts through but it can be profitable grinding craglorn with the amount of purple drops you get doing it that way.

I bought the game just for the reason of voiced quests, immersion etc. After SWTOR I could not get immersed in any other MMO except TSW, which I like a lot. I did not get above level 8 in ESO though... combat killed it for me, combat and not being able to darn click on stuff on screen. I hated it so much that I just stopped playing after just few days.

I desperately tried all classes up to level 8 to see if I can maybe at least tolerate combat in any of them, but combat just bored me to death. I am not a fan of action combat, I love old fashioned tab combat of EQ2 and SWTOR. Even TSW combat is much closer to these games than ESO. Same reason, why I did not last long in GW2.

If you are not a fan of action combat its going to take awhile to get used to and some just never enjoy it. My wife was exactly the same way actually quitting the game around level 8 or 9. Then after a couple of months of watching me pvp and enjoy it and not jumping around mmorpgs like i did so much in the past she gave it another shot and actually tried really hard to learn the combat systems. Now she wont play another tab target game again because she says they play way to slow.

Moral of the story , Ive seen plenty of your posts from SWTOR , you are pretty level headed here. Give it another shot , I think if you really try hard to master the combat you will eventually really like it. The cool thing about ESO is you do not have to dodge roll like GW2 and TSW . Your right mouse button blocks attacks with any weapon. Also you can hold block and hit your left mouse button and thrust , knocking things off balance when they try their power up moves etc.  Also hotkeys are your friends in this game 1-5 E and R is all you really need and Q occasionally. once you train your hand in the end you will probably enjoy this sort of combat.

this is tempting and Im about over tab target mmorpgs. But the old 40 man raids and pvp during vanilla were a lot of fun. I dont think they could get me back though without a bolstering system so you can run all the old raids and content sort of like guild wars 2 had. That way the content would still be viable and not as stale.
everytime i go check on their offical forums all i see is smart ass comments from their customer support team and staff. Thats a real turn off and they seem to know better there than the players in terms of what they want... I was never impressed with guild wars 2 though i took a guardian and a warrior to 80 as soon as I hit 80 i stopped as there was zero reason to keep playing. Their world vs world maps were cluttered and boring creating a zerge mentality with their leads always claiming they knew better than players begging for open roaming. Then you are so limited in skills in that game it gets so boring. I feel like im playing old eq1 with the limited amount of skills and build passives. To me it seems like a game made by a very arrogant dev team that has their heads in their ass. Your millage may vary...

I really dont get why people always want the most viable class and the most viable weapon. I wouldnt touch a weapon or class that i dont enjoy, no matter how good top #1 badass of doom it is...

Look for whats most fun to you, OP.

It's not even remotely difficult to understand.

The game has a big competitive PvP component. Winning is naturally something people like to do. It's not much fun playing at a disadvantage. I don't know if this particular disadvantage is real, imagined or insignificant but if it exists then it's going to be a turn off for some.

yes it is grossly imbalanced now for most melee builds vs stave builds. Just holding a resto staff with full health gives all your abilities a 10% damage increase. Wearing light armor gives you spell crit and pen and also large amounts of magicka regain. Melee builds have to deal with block evades and weapon abilites eating your stamina. Most of the pvp consists of devouring mist from vampire ring of fire from destruction staves impulse spam etc . I have a vet rank 12 templar as my main and I have just shy of 3k health and against a vamp cloth wearing caster with destruction or resto staves Im dead in 3 hits. Just tonight bat swarms were hitting for 1800 with capped resists and armor. Ring of fire 800 a tick, its pretty much out of control right now and melee doesnt stand a chance. There are a few builds that are viable but none are going to trump magicka based caster specs with so much high damage aoe.

this game is by far one of the largest cash grabs out there for android and IOS. There is zero support from gameloft for tech issues or account issues. It takes days to get back a copy and pasted email. I wish people that played games like this and see them for what they are would down vote their ratings on google play so people do not keep downloading this garbage because google play spot lights games with the highest ratings. I own a tablet and a note 3 and I do not even get on google play anymore because all the games that come up are games from companies like this one that are designed to completely drain every dime in your wallet as bad as perfect world tries to do.
dw sorc running a critical surge build is still viable in pvp if you stack crit since they upped the soft cap. Also in pve they are pretty much beast mode. Their dps is insane compared to other melee builds. I know im leveling a lowbie one now thats pumping out 250 single target dps in my 20s when my templar two hander at vet rank 12 is only doing 400 dps single target unless i use ultimates on trash mobs or elites. some of the new vet rank sets that increase crit damage has really brought a couple of builds up there in dps making them viable with any resto staff weilding DK or Sorc.

davisflight you and others here are WAY to jaded and need to seriously stop looking at this game like DAOC 2 or skyrim. This game to date already has more in it than any other themepark released just about. There is grouping content to the point that people cry daily to release more solo end game content. By the end of this year this game will have a justice system a spellcraft system and a darkness falls/land of the dead style pvp dungeon thats huge. Name any other games out there that did a justice system thats a themepark or a manipulate your spells line?

Not to mention name a game other than DAOC that has the pvp system like cyrodiil has for pvp even with the gross imbalance of ranged. Hell I was dueling in cyrodiil last night as a resto templar and got my butt handed to me by a skilled sword and board templar which NEVER happens. This game some of the best pvp found to date unless you are into that ganking low levels taking their stuff garbage pvp in other games or that stun fest in wow or rift.

I watch threads like this daily here, reading so much bullshit just made up to prove a point with no valid logic behind it. There isnt a game out there now that released with this much content and things to do to date less than 6 months old than ESO. Not to mention all you used to hear was how blah blah guild wars 2 and rift had the BEST dev teams here because they released content once a month yet the content sucked and was small. So far every single patch to ESO has added large sets of features and fixes based on the community. Just look at the champion system and new vet system thats directly from player feedback.

yeah lets get the valid opinions from a bunch of jaded sandbox players.....these articles are going to end real well.

There was a few soft cap changes that make melee a tad bit better and brought down spell power some also so its getting there but not their yet. Also heavy armor did get a buff today where every 2 seconds you are hit in combat you regain about 20 magicka and stamina if you are 7 pieces in based on your health . This helps a lot for tanks and some builds but its still magicka based and it seems resto staff is still the leader because of the flat 10% bonus to damage passive based on health.

For pve the only thing this is going to effect is trial runs for speed , pvp melee is lethal to a skilled player. Two handed has gap closers dual snares etc. I cannot even begin to count the kills I get on any class running a resto staff or destruction staff and light armor and with the new c/c immunity timer that went in tonight its more skill , no more spamming dark talons or any of the other stun lock garbage. Overall this was a great patch with nothing really in it to dislike other than the no brain skill spammers that run around stun locking everyone.

Hands down the best themepark mmo on the market for me, I could care less about digging up a house and planting a garden as long as pvp is fun and balanced. I think a lot of gamers here should give it a try if they enjoy pvp similiar to warhammer and DAOC that havent tried it yet.

my only grip with ESO since I been playing it since beta is the champion system cannot come fast enough. After getting one toon to max vet rank its a real chore on every alt you make. The new patch today added more experience to killing players in pvp and Im really hoping its enough to actually level through pvp now instead of having to do two entire factions zones to get 10 vet points on all my alts then craglorn.
i actually enjoy this game much more than any other game ive played other than DAOC. I feel like this is the game that mythic should of strived for with warhammer online and fell so short on. I know that most of the devs from mythic that were laid off went to work for ZOS on this project and its good to see they are constantly trying very hard to fix the game and make it in the direction most of the player base wants. The justice system and spellcraft system is going to make the game much more like a TES game but you will still have zones etc. But from the way things sound once you hit 50 anyways its just adventure zones from then on out that you will not have to worry about leveling. The champion system is just going to be passives and some gear requirements , so its going to have the trees like skyrim had and some more open world feel. That should at least please some of the old players who left. I cannot wait til they add in the rest of the skyrim zones wrogthar etc.
kickstarter does need some sort of liability and should take the lead in sueing scammers out there. 7 days to die for example is coming a long nicely and funded through kickstarter. While its late as can be on when it projected to release they are entering alpha 9 and everyone who has keys to the game are happy with how things are going. Another game though the dead linger was funded and pretty much has done very very little to actually improve the gameplay. They just finished making the graphics better and on steam has zero people playing it most of the time. Kickstarter funds shouldnt just be given out to these companies until they have at the very least a working alpha where most major systems are in then get their funds. Right now its pretty much make a small playable demo that one soul could basically do and collect tons of free money from people who are desperate to play new indie games. This system just leads to salesmen who can swindle free money away and take years to finish a project or walk with your money. Kickstarter should have some sort of safeguards in place for this or they should be liable themselves to pay back ripped off players.
its steam there is zero moderation there you can say what you want troll as hard as you want wish people dead etc. Of course people are going to troll the game hard there, if its not free there is backlash. All you have to do is go look at some of the games those guys play like day z and what they recommend and see what type of players they are. I highly doubt this is going to effect steam sales for the game, most games there seem to have a ton of trolls spewing off nonsense on their forums around the clock anyways.  But one good thing will come of it once people link their steam accounts with eso you will be able to see peak numbers and get a rough estimate of the population.
the patch notes do not really list any class changes yet going up on PTS and staff commented that there would be more patch notes on classes and weapon changes coming before this releases. I know in their state of the game letter july 8th they seem to have their eyes on templar still and more for nightblade along with bringing up some of the weapon skills other than resto and light armor. The last medium armor patch did make medium a bit more viable but until they either move dodge roll and block to its own bar its never going to be as good as light armor builds. People cannot spam weapon skills like they do class skills plus the weapon skills damage vs the stamina used is pretty pathetic at the moment.
in regards to rift it is a direct wow clone who trumped its release making commercials saying your not in azeroth anymore. It was designed from the ground up to basically chunk at wows sub numbers who wanted a more mature version of wow. Rift has had success because of the cheap cost to make the game but went through many many months of bleeding sub numbers and server merges. Some did return after the expansion and free to play and how they did their system helped keep their population much more stable. But the games major core is designed around wow fundamentals from the pvp style to the quest hubs to the linear progression. Im glad they at least did expand public quest technology though as its a neat feature in games like this one and guild wars 2.
i gave up even trying to talk to him on the first page hes obviously just farming post counts and arguing for the shits and giggles. How this guy because a spot light poster is beyond me, staff really just give out the titles without bothering to check their post history.

the reason you're getting responses like this from most people is because every day threads like this pop up and people are just sick of everyone who doesnt play or like the game seeming to have a better way of doing things. There is a fan base playing this game that enjoy it for what it is and not trying to change every single aspect of it. If you want to influence development on a game you better go sign up for kickstarter and put your money where your mouth is and im sure you can influence a games dev team if you put enough money where your mouth is.

I play ESO myself and wildstar to and enjoy both games the way they are currently. Sure I would love to see some new features and some quality of life changes in both games but you are acting like ESO is terrible because its not a sandbox that YOU want to play. Some of us old school DAOC vets enjoy the factions because their pvp system in eso is by far the best out here currently on the market, that is unless you love full loot pvp or something similar which you have darkfall and mortal for that.

BTW go look at how well shadowbane did, it describes most of your points. Open world you create your own factions and have pvp where you want it. It flopped and tanked hardcore and was one of the first games to go free to play then close right up.

I think the issue that some of us have is not how the game is designed and not that people like it.

but its the statements that its 'an impossible task'. that statement alone is what gets me feeling I HAVE to set the record straight

You aren't setting anything straight.. You can't force people to agree with you.

thus far nobody has disagreed with me either, they just resort to personal attacks because I made the point that I have played MMOs with these features

i dont think anyone is going to disagree with you entirely, what you say is a concept most will enjoy or at least try out. But the way you are saying it is implying it to a game that is already released and obviously already cost millions of dollars to make it how it is now. The only hope you can really have of what you want in a ES game now is if they make a new ES game or the fallout mmo if they ever do make that.  Games can be made any way you want them to be made, what you describe is basically what all the survival horror games are doing now like day z rust 7 days to die etc. Its not impossible you are right but its also not feasable for ESO to go this route when they already have a concrete game setup and designed.

Also part of what made skyrim and oblivion great, even morrowind was the community modding the games. You basically had a mod for anything you liked in a game especially skyrim. I wont even touch skyrim vanilla anymore without survival mods and gameplay mods that turn it into a hardcore survival game that you struggle to survive in like hypothermia camping thirst disease starvation etc. Thats what really made those games great is the community creations.

if you are looking for a game like rust with a great community purchase 7 days to die then. Majority of the community is very mature and friendly and they do have some features in game to keep people from griefing on public servers. Rust is all multiplayer but 7 days to die is single player and multiplayer so you can take the time to learn the game first then go and play on public servers. Plus 7 days has a much better crafting system and more reasons to survive as its a zombie game.

I play ESO wildstar and have been a mmo guy for many years myself but I have over 240 hours in 7 days to die and log in every new patch as the game just keeps getting better and better though its a alpha still.
