why do people seriously care what some internet nerd is saying about a game? When did it become Cool to watch overweight nerds playing a game ranting and raving instead of just playing it yourself? I guess I missed that memo.... I always thought youtube was for puppy and kitten videos....

its all about how you carry yourself. If he wouldnt be pushing buttons with sarcastic comments he might get a much better response. I know I wasnt going to say anything until he threw in his last comment about everyone leaving in droves. But seriously what can you expect this site is not their official forums and some of the people commenting probably do not even play .

if you love the game so much dont troll their forums and get yourself banned its simple really. Customer service is swamped read the letter to the community so good luck trying to get your account open again. You probably were banned for 24 or 48 hours I highly doubt its a permanent ban. Either way coming to a mmo site not even watched by ESO devs and mods to complain about it all is only going to get you trolled much worse than your ban is. Especially admitting you deserved it then saying everyones leaving in droves when that is factually not even remotely true.
some of you guys are jaded beyond repair..... This guy outlined everything they have been and are working on. The guy runs the show there pretty much what he tells you is pretty much fact but yet some of you still cannot give the guy some credit.... I hate bots to especially the farming ones that make it impossible for us to boss loot from the lore dungeons but I take the guys word from it thats its going to be fixed soon because he says it is. Why do you guys seriously even play these games if you do not believe anything they say? Its a good game, fun but has some flaws and polish issues that every game has from the start. Then 6 months from now all those will be fixed and systems reworked like every other game at release goes through.

the only real solution for what the OP is asking for is to not allow experience gained from anything 5 or 6 levels below you but when entering a zone you delevel your stats and gear, thats really about as much as you can do in a game besides mentoring down like Rift and EQ2 has. The problem with all mmorpgs is devs are never going to fully understand and be smarter than players in their designs. So you are always going to have the lazy easiest and most bang for your buck type levelers and gold farmers , and then your achievement hounds and normal levelers. The farm trains in GW2 are just poor design choices made by a very lazy dev team. It sucks because everytime you implement features that are designed to to be fun and rewarding for most players you will always have those lazy players whom take advantage of the system and exploit it then come screaming on forums when it gets removed or nerfed for them exploiting a system.

guild wars 2 system was stupid at best and lead to tons of zones being empty and why they now have a merged mega server to begin with. If you deranked to come back and do skyshards and achievements using the guild wars 2 system like Aeonblades says also you would end up with just some stupid power level spots and farm spots with a ton of empty zones. Its already bad you cannot go to any lore dungeon in the game and even remotely come close to beat the bots for the boss loot in each one as they are camped so heavily by bots its ridiculous. Lets not turn this game into another power leveling guild wars 2 farm train that runs from troll to spiders to swamps over and over and over again...

I think some of you guys need to realize that every game released is not going to have the same level of quality on its official release as the next game or studio because every studio and company is made up of different people whom prioritize different things. When you guys learn to accept this you might actually take a much more mellow approach.

This game was no different than skyrim releasing. Some couldnt even play skyrim until community work arounds were released. It took a community patch to fix all the bugs, same with fallout new vegas. Bethesda was still patching 1.9 what a year later so that should tell you right there that releases are much more important and squashing bugs as they pop up is how they do business with Zen and Bethesda. 

For myself while bugs and dupes are annoying I can tolerate it because I enjoy the rest of the game and have hopes that each week we will still get small patches to fix whats broken and also in may a large patch to improve the quality of life and add some content. If they stay on point with this than in my opinion they are no different than blizzard Trion or Arena Net. This is what will determine my long term plans of playing and I think ultimately their long term success. 

Ill be playing this for awhile isnt another mmorpg out there that im even interested in anytime in the near future and this has the old school DAOC feel to it IMO, though the questing only option does suck in my book as sometimes id rather go out and pvp for progression or grind mobs. Options , I do hope they really address those but all in all I find the game to be a very good game which I enjoy playing.

I do not think its the hardest class to play , just build your class up to use its cc abilities.  Alot of nightblades seem to be runing these ranger like siphon builds that are fine for pve but cannot withstand burst dps in pvp. Also pvp is about burst dps and crowd control so build your character out there to kill as fast as possible or take advantage of crowd control and you should be fine. Or since you have a guild , that hopefully run together why not setup a premade group to run out there with to take advantage of all the classes and builds skills and weakensses.

One doesn't really need to care for a game to invest time in it. Not everyone gets emotionally attached to MMOS.

I have played several MMOS just because i had nothing better to do. In the end did i care? nope. But yeah i did pass my boring time.

And as usual you had nothing to say on the actual content of the review. All the fans are more interested in discussing Op than what he wrote.

you can also take what the OP says with a grain of salt and show some patience instead and be a bit more rational about it all. I think most people here agree with what the OP is saying but the guy literally rushed to end game on a brand new mmo  and now is bored. Somethings I agree with him on the bugs especially and the boring towns but I also know that they do not want to lose a bunch of players and will probably more sooner than later fix the glaring bugs. I think some people here just need to realize that not everyone has the same tolerance levels as other people and that goes for people hating and also white knighting the game. But lets be honest here to , some of the posters who hate on this game do so just to troll and start arguments here. So it does get tiresome after awhile to read through. This poster did a respectable opinion though which I think most can respect.

so you rush to end game and find nothing at all to do except pvp? hmmm why does this sound familiar. Oh yeah its the power gamers argument that happens in every single new release. Not trying to be a jerk man but seriously you should of known this would happen. Give them a few patches to catch up content for end game and iron out the bugs it happens. I remember running heroics in rift as I power gamed and was one of the first 50 warriors on my server. We would get pissed off because of all the bugs with fears pushing us through walls and floors and not being able to complete dungeons. 

When you rush to end game in newer mmorpgs do not expect to see a completed game as I cannot think of any game thats modern that released with a real end game. Come back in 3 or 4 months and watch how much has changed. The modern mmorpg is far from complete nor has really any mmo Ive played at release. Go look at old games like EQ and DAOC even they had limited end games on release but just took you forever to even get there. I respect your opinion but you should of known this sort of thing would be like this , its always like this with all games.

the game is a solid mmorpg weather or not you enjoyed skyrim or the other games in the series. It has some challenge open classes and a very large rich world. For a release on day 1 it offered way more than most other games releasing. People here that bash it are jaded and is little here they will not bash in the first place all you have to do is read their post history. People thinking this game is going free to play anytime in the near future are sadly mistaken its going to be fun watching them moan in each thread never being able to back up anything they say.
you guys expecting some picture perfect launch obviously have never purchased a elders scrolls game. To me the tradition lives on, skyrim was a bugging crashing mess also at release and took almost a year to finish fixing most of the bugs. Go look at some of the mods, there are community patches for skyrim fixing crashing and bugs. This company is novice when it comes to a mmorpg on top of that so I would say if you have no patience for this sort of thing you really did pick the wrong game and company. I chose resub myself as I only play a couple of hours a night after work and its usually always up(except last night) so I do not run into a lot of the issues people are having with lag and crashes and disconnects. I learned a very long time ago on a new release to A play minimally because of these exact situations and B never rush to level cap as there will be just basic little things to do and that will be the buggiest part of any new release. I try to wait a patch or two before getting to end game myself.

templar just lacks the buff based burst dps that the other three classes have. Dragonknight is nothing special just a couple of weird builds stand out above a few others. Also dragonknight does some struggling in the lower levels with no self healing until around 15. But if you build for aoe dps instead of just tanky or combine with ranged dps you can faceroll things around level 15. 

As for pvp pve swapping, not really because you are very limited on your skill points until late game and the cost of respec is 100 gold per a skill point which is way overpriced in a game that offers so many builds and really needs to be nerfed price wise. most survival builds for leveling and questing do not have the skill points or morphs into abilities that make your character more survivable in pvp. Plus being able to cc more bursty builds in pvp helps a ton, especially since most players seem to be playing ranged kiting dps classes currently.

this is just another one of the myriads of indie dev minecraft clones and variations. The better ones at least put a real spin on their games like 7 days to die or planet explorers. This one is just another pvp sandbox that will be dead even before it gets going. All these games devs think they know everything then when their games are pretty much dead from the start its always the communities fault or big triple A companies....instead of looking in the mirror.

I do not understand people saying this pve is anymore of a challenge than say wows pve, its basically the exact same thing or even guild wars 2 watch for big attack calls and dont stand in red circles.... If you are spec'd for complete healer use your brain and understand why you are not killing anything. Also I have a nightblade tank and dragonknight tank and both use limited ranged with full melee attacks. That being said Ive only died a few times because of not paying attention and have had no problems soloing boss mobs or packs of mobs, so not sure why tanks are complaining about dying. Also any build in pve that has some self healing or crowd control will have no issues soloing though some are faster than others. 

You can do a two handed tank nightblade build with siphoning and heavy armor AKA reaver or death knight and faceroll everything. Hell even the orb boss on the fighters guild questline dies in about 6 to 8 hits. Just stop trying to specialize your characters to play one set way and actually set it up to survive instead... Also like others have said if you plan to pvp with most of these builds good luck hope you like dying a lot because burst dps is the king out there and cc....

other than the population comments i can mostly agree with you but I think your instance determines how many players you will see by luck of the draw. I know on my server since day one of the 5 day head start its been to the point of overcrowded and so many named spawns camped for hours on end just groups of players standing around farming named mobs. 

I think a lot of the general annoying quality of life quirks will be changed with the next patch or two when they add the big one in may. I know they also need to get their head out of their backside and stop patching and bringing servers down during the day also when there is a larger playerbase than late at night. Other than that pretty decent review. I think the next couple of months will determine the fate of this game and them listening to their customers.

I think if you go into this game playing this game like WoW, you are going to see WoW.  If you go into this game playing it like an adventure game, you are going to see its clearly not wow by a longshot. 


As far as people saying its like SWTOR,  that's another whole different genre.   Did Conan the barbarian pull out a laser gun and start shooting his enemies,   did the hobbit pull out his light saber and start slaying things like a Jedi?    Seriously wayyyyy two different types of genre.    SWTOR can be put in STO genre,  by all means not put into a High Aventure genre.  


The waters are so muddy around here people don't even know the genre they are playing when they play it anymore.   Its like WoW having Evil Paladins....  Really?  Seriously?  Evil paladins.  yeah ok.   Well you get the picture. and if you don't, then there is nothing I can do to help you understand where I am coming from.

I agree with you, this doesn't play anything like WoW IMO, and I play a LOT of WoW. If by "playing like WoW" you mean it's a game with quests and crafting and a world then, yes, it plays EXACTLY like WoW. 


When I began playing, I realized how spoiled I'd become with recent MMOs when I stepped into ESO and a few things happened:

1) I was sitting there thinking to myself, "Huh, been a while since I levelled" 

2) I wanted to craft something, but had to actually go and discover where the hell things were in the town. 

3) When I got there, I was like "Damn! I've been gather materials for like an hour and and I can literally make nothing!" (blacksmithing specifically)

4) I actually have to THINK about character progression and decide how I'm going to play the game and where I'm going to spend my skill points. 


If someone wants to draw comparisons to WoW though, with actual logical arguments I'm all ears. 

1) You did that in WoW too, vanilla was, while easier than EQ 1 to level, notorious in this respect.

2) Same as WoW in the beginning before maps, quests, wikis,etc.

3) The depth of the crafting is in its flexibility, if you go by pure capacity to craft after an hour then ESO is equal to WoW in as far as crafting something useful is concerned.

4) Flexibility in progression is ok but at the end of the day if you have to have certain builds to be effective you aren't really thinking after min/maxing has been nailed down.

actually it stands out in quite a bit more but for some reason you seem to be on this kick lately that your opinion is the only one that matters. We get you do not like the game, you are starting to act a lot like Taela now.....

I do not really agree on the soloing build stuff here. A solo build in ESO needs to take advantage of a bit more than a self heal. and mixing up armor is very beneficial IMO. For example a dragonknight whom seems to be the weakest for soloing in the early game can easily manage multiple mobs without self healing if you know how to play them. Interrupts in ESO are your best friend and not standing in red circles etc. 

For solo builds I would recommend especially in the early game fast access to your first crowd control abilities and DPS. Self Heals I would prioritize maybe as a third. You can avoid pretty much any attacks in this game  with interrupting Mouse 1 and 2 pressed etc and avoid obvious call signs of special attacks. Also do not go for glass cannon builds if you want to not get one shotted in pvp as some players are finding out now. 

Look at what your character playstyle is and try to plan. Check out the different armor styles and weapon styles in game and read up a bit before rushing in as its 100 gold per a skill point to respec your character and that is not cheap plus your respec is in a higher level zone so its not going to be easy to just go to without a high player friend you can port to. 

While I do not agree with this being a true old school mmorpg, I can see that its a much slower paced game with lots of exploration added on. You can pretty much go around any zone and tell a lot of work and care went into designing every zone to kinda tell a story and immerse the player. Also the leveling is much slower than most other themepark games although some have found ways to just basically exploit the system or power game and miss half the content but to each their own. 

While you do have some hand holding on the quest lines the quests themselves are actually pretty detailed and actually do tell a story especially once you get past the starting areas. The fighter and mage guild quest lines are also pretty well done and actually do require you to be active in combat and not just auto attacking as there are mini bosses. So I can kinda see where the OP is coming from but I do think comparing it to EQ in a technical sense is far from accurate but maybe in a lore and story sense I can kinda see where hes coming from. I grew up playing EQ DAOC and even vanilla wow and I can tell you one thing about all of them , the older I get the last thing I want to do is grind mobs for hours and days just to get one level and I think ESO has a very good pace, not to fast but not ungodly slow. I think this game out of all the recent mmorpgs released in the last 6 or 7 years I think ESO is the best one at least for me as it has the pvp I like and the lore and story I really enjoy.
