Its Bioware, nuff said.

Planetside

Dragon Age, Borderlands, and Arkham Asylum for me, and I am in the exact same situation.  I really couldnt have worded it better.

Currently, you get WoW+TBC for 30 bucks (WoW Battlechest), the same as they used to cost seperately. They sell it as a bundle now, rather than seperate boxes, which have been out of print since a while before WotLK was released. When Cataclysm is released, there will very likely be a new battle chest, containing WoW, TBC and WotLK for 30 bucks, and you "just" have to buy the Cataclysm box to complete it.

I don't think there's any barrier to newbies, cost wise. In total, it will cost the same as it does now. Right now, you pay 30 bucks for the Battlechest, and another 30 for WotLK. When Cataclysm is released, you will pay 30 bucks for the expansion, and 30 bucks for WoW+TBC+WotLK in the new battlechest.

Simple really.

Even if you compare to the official rating on this site it is only a difference of .9; and that was when WotLK was new, before it started getting dull.

I cut out the part above of WHY your review - as a specific created account to start with Aion promotion - (even to yourself) is rather worthless...

In order to retain credibility here, you may want to include that information as soon as you open your mouth.

See how "objective" your review was. You knew EXACTLY how you would end up with a rating lower than this site (which is ALREADY ridiculous low for a game this succesful). And you can't even distinguish your review in relation to what you experienced in the first place.

Meaning your "review" is purely based on time, which is silly as today a NEW young guy of 15 will start playing WOW...

I don't want to read a review that a 15 year old wrote, primarily because it wouldn't be grammatically coherent.  He made a notable effort to give the game a fair review based on a few years of playing it, no one wants to thoroughly review a game right after they buy it unless they are working for a gaming magazine/website, and in reality you can't accurately rate a game until you have experienced all of its odds and ends.

Also, the subscriber count has nothing to do with the quality of the game.  Just because the most people play this does not mean it is the best of the genre.

See the obvious? You would NEVER pay 750 dollars subscription money for a "dull" game....

Up front, no. But back to earlier, his opinion had been built over the course of four years.  If he thought the game was dull, he wouldn't have paid any more money for it obviously?

And you answered my observation just quite in line with what I thought....

Global Agenda will be a great INSTANCED multiplayer. I will still try it, but to be honest I am still looking for MMOFPS that offers true OPEN RVR.

I define Open RvR with at least 200 vs 200 like Planetside attempted to do and warhammer achieved.

This is nothing personal against Global Agenda, Huxley, Combat Arms , etc. They are or will be AWESOME games but they are not MMO by definition.

For example:

Diablo I, II, Global Agenda, Combat Arms, CCS, Huxley  etc (INCREDIBLE mutliplayer  BUT NOT AN MMO)

Everquest I and II, WOW,  Warhammer Online, even Maplestory  are TRUE MMOS

My point is that just because a game can get ton of people in lobby or in ladders doesnt make it an MMO. A true MMO is when you get a considerable amount people battle, play, or even chat through the whole world.

I cant wait till PS-2 and I hope that SW:TOR and WARHAMMER 40K live to be ture MMOs with Open RvR and PvE.

Attempted?

People need to worry less about how perfect a game is, quitting over minor issues, and start having fun again.  Developers are going to keep improving games if the money is there.  Its like people act like if they dont bitch on a 3rd party site the next gen mmorpgs are jump backwards and devolve into atari style games.  The reality is the motivation to make better games is there, but its not keeping 3rd party forum members happy, its making money.

This site, and sites like this are good for know what games are out there, but as far as community rankings and reviews, its absolute garbage, youll walk out of here never wanting to touch a mmorpg is you read the forum posts about just about anygame here.

and im not even getting into the f2p vote bot armys and viral marketers.....thats a whole new can of worms.

so stop taking a game so damn seriously, have fun with it and enjoy it for what it is, and for gods sake, stop expecting every game to be flawless and to keep you entertained for 15 hours a day for 5 years.

I dont really have much to say to the rest of your post.  But as far as this goes, I agree with you, but you have to understand that many people (not the majority that lurk these forums) care about graphics and other unimportant characteristics and base their rating of fun on those characteristics.  And I think this can partially be blamed on the developers?  Many of us can agree that UO was a decent game, but UO lacked in prettiness.  It just seems like from there, one of the first things companies would tell potential consumers about their upcoming game is that its going to be using this new graphics engine that will be able to produce this many pixels and this amount of eye candy!  I don't THINK I judge a game very much on its graphics, but I THINK many people do because I THINK companies started to make that a bigger priority.  So its harder to thoroughly enjoy a game because it isn't as fun because developers are focusing those resources elsewhere, probably for more money.

Feel free to flame, just my humble opinion.

I cancelled my subscription 3-4 months ago and it wasn't that bad.  The worst I had to deal with were a few people speed hacking and shooting through doors.

You guys make it sound like it got REALLY bad, care to explain?

Basically, the existing Closed Beta testers realized how shitty the game is so they stopped playing.  And now Duplex needs more CB testers to fill the spots left vacated by inactive testers.  Yep, looks really promising.  Now all the retarded fanboys get a second chance to feel special because they got selected.

At least back in 2004, during the first CB, there was intelligent discussion going on in the forums.  People actually debated gameplay mechanics and offered up new ideas.  These days the forums are full of sycophants who praise every word that comes forth from Duplex like it is gospel.

Amen.

Morgan Freeman would also be a good candidate!

Though I haven't played in three months:

1.  I play Vanu, so of course I am going to argue that it isn't OPed.  We cant do anything at long range!

2.  I wouldn't call it useless but I see your point, I still feel like I get insta-killed by them all the time.

3.  Probably want someone with an active sub to answer that one.

4.  Definitely.  Even if its been three months since I played, you still get that feeling of being involved in a big battle.  You have a bunch of cloakers, a bunch of people flying, a bunch of people setting up mines and defenses, a bunch of people doing this and that.

5.  Not that I know of?  Still get owned by it all the time.

6.  It still felt slow, but with this announcement of the BR cap being raised to 40, they better make it easier to level!

7.  They added some cool engineering stuff and they also made rexo a reward for five year vets I think.  Added a phantasm and a galaxy gunship and i think a few other things.  Not sure how much of that you were around for.

BR 40!!!

Wow, I haven't logged on in a while, but I think I am going to re sub and get started!

Judge me if you must but I played ToonTown for 2 years from when I was 16-18 years old.  I have always been a fan of co-op PVE play and this game really just had me hooked for a while.  You log on and you get tasks that have these rewards either for a new line of gags or for some more laff points, I felt like I always had to get another one done before I could log off.

May seem sad, I know, and I do admit to people that I played it, but it really isnt a BAD game.

As the big swingometer starts to move away from the Elf and goblin side towards the sci-fi / futuristic side of the MMO trend I think we will see something very similar to a 'Planetside 2'

I think we are entering a period of sci-fi / alternative MMOs very shortly and a Planetside 2 or similar will be on the cards eventually.

Perhaps in concept but I am nearly 100% sure that SOE will take no part in making it.  Huxley looks promising though.

Nathan has a point. It is all about how much you want to tolerate in your product. If you can have a blind eye to these things then by all means enjoy your game.

Unfortunately it really seems to me funcom focused so much on making a good combat system and a decent intoductory experience, they hoped it would be enough to keep you while they patch up the rest down the road. They problably couldn't wait any longer revenue wise so they gave us a decent overall experience for first half of the game.

Should we expect this of all MMOs?

What has me jaded is that FunCom promised SO much and we had delays and delays all inthe name of revamping the combat system and polish. I feel like a sucker. I mean - the drinking cape, a promotional item for preodering, doesn't even work??? Drunken brawling not in game?

I can understand bugs in isolated areas, remote quests maybe not functioning, lag spikes in cities now and then. That I will tolerate for many months.

What will you all tolerate to keep sending in your $15/ month?

Agree on everything.

And to answer your question I think it will probably depend on the rate in which all of these promised things are put out.  I've always wanted to go back to Planetside.

Nathan you really are brushing against a hard bush,I mean I dont know what level you got to but I was level 60 and it was a nightmare maybe you got further but cant you even admit that the game is unfinished?

From level 1-40 was nice, questing wise that is,the combat was good and also the story lines,But my god after 40 and for sure after 50 the questing was terrible even the story lines took a dive, like I said before the atmosphere in game is almost none excistent and the bugs just get so much worse,Yes I know they have said they will release a new"level 55-60 zone in the summer"we will wait and see if that happens.

Atm I see this game as a run of the mill mmo with nice graphics and some promise but ppl wondering if they should play ....nope give it some time to move on ...and move on quite a bit,so many things dont work like crafting, quests, zone's not loading and never mind end game there isnt much to do mid level game.

Could not agree with you more and I really didn't mean to give off that vibe.  Siege warfare is probably FUBAR along with many other aspects of the game.  I'm 64 and I guess it isn't that bad for me.  It's all about resilience I guess?

After getting to number 5 i stopped reading.  Those are 30-40s quests.  Give the game more of a chance.  When you get to 60 or 70 I'll give you more room to talk.

Why, so I could go exploit the totem quest like everyone else is doing?

And I only made it to level 56. I don't have time to play all day, although I really wish I did. I could have never made it to 60's or 70's anyways, the constant bugs would have killed me long before then.

Exactly my point, you have no room to talk.

The exploits are fixed by the way.  And if you haven't heard, there are more people complaining about how harsh FC is punishing exploiters than people complaining about the existence of them.

Oh ok, I have no room to talk. Guess what genius - I bought the game, played the game so I do have room to talk. Don't get bent out of shape because everything I posted is true. If you like the game that's great, but saying I have no room to talk just shows how completely ignorant you are.

I'm really not bent out of shape and I really didn't intend to make anyone like that.  I wasn't hinting that I play all day, I wasn't hinting that I'm better than you just because I've been through more of the game, I was merely trying to find a more logical reason as to why you think this game is so horrible.  I went back and I read the rest of your points and you made some really good arguments.  It does boil down to preference though.  But please don't for a second think that "everything" you posted was true.

Hmm, not really sure I could agree with your comment, why should a player have to wait till max level to mention bugs in a game? That doesnt make sense to me at all.

Understood but he hasn't been through half of the game it seems.
