While the game is not my cup of tea, and while I still think Funcom deserves most of the bad reputation it has received... I am glad the game is what you have been looking for and I hope you get months of enjoyment from it.

Why thank you very much.

Oh and in case ppl want to see an objective review ... so as to know what to expect ... I'll give my criticisim here for what it's worth and from what little research I've done.

Very subjective to be honest .... but it's along the ' it's okay ' to ' it's mind blowingly beautiful on Ultra'. Problem is the game client is wacky and the lowest and highest settings have a big gap ... so many ppl with different specs will have different experiences depending on GPU, CPU, RAM and WIndows type. It's DX11 capable with tesselation ... but how stable it will be remains to be seen at launch.

Character Models

They sort of look like SIMS or GTA models with better pixelation or something. Not the most mind blowing character models and the way they move aint the best either. A lot of ppl will have problems with the jumping as its fast and jumps unrealistically high.

Character Customization

While beta hasn't got everything in I doubt Funcom can produce pretty stuff like in Aion, Tera or even GW2. The style and art is different and they have a knack of making buttugly faces more ofthen than pretty ones.

And so far we don't have sliders so ... it's not very good customization so far .. we have to wait till launch .. but frankly speaking I don't think they can do much more spectacularly.

Combat's going to be very simplified since we only have 7 actives. But the depth comes in creating the right combination of 7 actives and 7 passive over 525 abiliities which you don't get from the start but can unlock if you play for about more than 3 months casually. The combat will be interesting in the fact that some bosses cannot be killed by magic and you need melee weapons or ranged normal weapons ... then you will have their specific moves that puts a dot on you or hot on itself which you must cc before he does frequently. Or there will be phases where when you attack he regenerates ... god i can't list them all here but ... they've really made the mobs hard and you will need specific builds to beat them. It will be challenging from  a strategic point but probably dull from a fun point since the animations suck to put it blunly.

Mouse turning is a bitch and it could really break the game for PvPers ... while mouse clickers and keyboard turners will have more fun.

It's 3 faction so that's always interesting. But it's very tied to PvE so it's not going to be fun for the PvP only crowd. You don't have PvP gear so you will have to PvE to get gear to PvE. It will be fun for those who like to do both though. The buff you get from PvP itself gives benefitst to PvE so it's very tied into PVE.

PvE Questing

They limit you which is a gamebreaker for many. So you will have to run around a bit too much in one zone for a long time. You cant accept multiple missions ... you have to pause it if you want to accept another. And since you can't delete missions pausing is in effect the same as deleting mission. If you want to do them you have to go to the quest giver again. There are puzzles which a lot of people wont like ... and even the sabotage missions like avoid booby traps or trip wires ... ppl may not like while some ppl will love.

The story is overarching ... they have repeatedly stated it is a like a jigsaw puzzle where you have to connect the dots. The first NPC you meet will probably have some story connection to an NPC you meet later at the last zone and might even be a clue to a puzzle in the last zone. Can't really say much though because you need to play the whole game before you can give a story review.

The cutscenes are well done but curse a lot and too much dialogue for many ppl. But they do serve a purpose in giving hints and clues for puzzles and overarching story mystery.

It's like minecraft where they don't give u the design you have to figure it out yourself. You have to break down items and weapons to see the pattern and reshape them with better materials to get better materials. It will be a headache for some and probably a nice change for others.

Bugs and Gltiches

There will be a lot because I think Funcom just does things slow and their deadlines force them to produce stuff unfinished or unpolished. And by the time the game's actually very good to play the ppl are gone with a bad taste in their mouth.

Age of Conan isn't free to play .. it's a hybrid model which is more like a glorified trial in which you can trial a character to 80 with a lot of restrictions. The real meat and potatoes of Age of Conan is in the subscriptioned expansion pack Rise of the Godslayers,

Anarchy Online is still being updated by the company and they're not letting it rot ... so I have faith they'll keep TSW their new baby alive as long as possible.

Cash Shop and Sub

It's greedy and it's smart ... for them of course. Probably when the time comes they will go free to play ... it seems they want to do it .. or they will do a freemium like age of conan ... restrictions for free players and goodies for premium members. However I see a good one year before this happens ... heck probably even more depending on the MMO market.

The game will be a niche game with the ones who really like it staying long and those who like the new change quitting after a few months. If they change the simple things such as animations and character modesl ... they'd do a whole lot well than I expect now. But ... I'm predicting it will be one of the good MMO's out there and nothing too big or too small. It will have it's core fanbase.

Hope that helps and sheds light on the game who want a review.

I've always wanted an MMO in a modern setting with story as the main proverbial carrot. Single RPG's while usually better than MMO's don't give you the community feeling and you really can't chat when you play alone. Here with Cabals and Faction rivalry it's going to be awesome. Pluse 3 factions ... always better than 2.

Plus I've always loved games like Silent Hll, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid and I've always loved books like Sherlock Holmes, HP Lovecraft, Stephen King and Dan Brown. I've always been wanting to have a mystery MMO and this MMO nails the spot in more than many ways I can describe.

I know there will be bugs and glitches ... I know the combat animations aren't as good as the current MMO's let alone single RPG's ... I seriously don't care about these things. They're all fluff to me. Now I get to play a game where most probably like-minded people will definitely love this type of game.

It's just awesome. I think people give Funcom more flak and crap than they deserve. Sure they tend to bite off more than they can chew and always always try to break the norm and do crazy stuff that they more or less fail to succeeed to back up technically. But it's undeniable that all their games had and have potential.

I'm in for the long haul for this game. I'm going to have a blast finishing the story of this game.

Cons - and here we go

Saying that the combat is clunky is quite the understatement. It's a mess in every sense. If you were looking for any type of skill based gameplay during combat, then you should run away from TSW. It's not reflex based, it's not strategy based, it's not tactics based, it's just . . . bad. It's spammy, chaotic and sloppy all around. It doesn't do the skill system justice. Why create such an extensive and interesting open ended skill system and then shoot an arrow into it's knee by gimping the combat?

While I enjoy the variety of quest types, when they're bad, they're really bad. It's like, "Kill X, oh, now kill X again. And how about again? Now pick up X things and then kill X of the same baddie you just killed."  Then there's the more puzzle oriented stuff which were pretty fun if you try to solve them on your own. I imagine more challenging puzzle quests show up later as the early stuff is fairly simple.

The animations were't great, but not as bad as what I was expecting based on earlier feedback. They're still a con, but if they were the only problem, I'd be fine with it.

Story / Cut scenes. Wow, just wow. I actually felt like I had been transported back to the ps2 gen. Poor everything, voice acting, animation, dialogue, and sadly boring story.

You need to test a dungeon  or 2 before you call out if its skill based or not. You need to play a few PvP warzones or battlegrounds to know if it's skill based or not. Hell ... you really need to unlock the skill wheel to sample the 525 abilities and read their descriptions before you call out if it's skill based or not. I seriously doubt you even went far as having two weapons and both 7 actives and 7 passives fully equipped. I doubt you even checked out the deck builds they had provided at the left hand corner of the wheel screen.

But yes the first few active skills mor3e or less suck to make an impression ... but I know it gets better as you unlock elite skills and go on to the outer circle.

Kill X quests in this game unlike games like Aion where you have to kill them without no damn reason and just to get some daily silver coins. The zombies are different and they actually are asking where they come from. Who made the zombies and why are there different types of zombies. Who caused the Fog in the first place? and why did the people of Kingsmouth die or why did Solomon Island drop off the map.

I agree with the animations ... the pretty much suck and I say this because their previous game Age of Conan had better animations with fatalities.

Cutscenes ... they're pretty long which is annoying ... but the whole story's more interesting than the average MMO. The story arc only starts after you finish Kingsmouth ... and it's impossible to finish Kingsmouth in a few hours like every other MMO noob area. I mean yes, the story maybe boring because it's not your cup of tea ... but it's like judging a book by reading a few pages and saying it's boring. Give the writer a bit of credit ... he's done some good stories even if it's not your cup of tea.

Yeah the writer shows references to many games movies and books. The writer of the game is Ragnar Tornquist and his 2 products The Longest Journey and Dreamfall are quite popular and well cherished by his fans.

Yeah the corpse run is optional you can respawn at the rez camp if you want but  you take a gear hit. Also there are quests only available in corpse runs or probably clues only available in corpse runs.

Goodness ... it mentions silent hill, dan brown, tomb raider, HP Lovecraft ... all which have influenced the game which is written by Ragnar Tornquist who wrote the story of the game, The Longest Journey, and obviously has a fanbase who like his stories. He wasn't poking Dan Brown in the game ... it was for referential humor. You'll see so many other game and movie references if you take the time to progress in the game.

Can't really judge the story of TSW without finishing it yet. SWTOR on the other hand had good story arcs in some classes while others were meh. What icked me most about SWTOR story line at least in the classes I played were the disconnection between Chapters 1 2 and 3 ... I really really liked the Trooper Chapter 1 .. but 2 and 3 went off another tangent and I was disappointed even though I really loved Elara Dorne.

Judging by the number of life-time subs ... think there's already a small community going strong for this game. Plus, it's mostly going to be the mature crowd ... you know ... the RPers the ARG players .. the one's who like story, puzzles etc.

As far as Cash Shop goes ... don't really see how people expect to have advantages over other people. In the end we only get to use 7 active skills and 7 passive skills to use at a particular time. Yeah you can buy stuff like xp potions so you speed up unlocking all the abilities but in the end you will be playing on equal terms with someone who's unlocked only one build to the max in the end. Plus I doubt those potions (ie if they even sell them) will help you in solving puzzles you're supposed to hunt google for. As for Talismans (gear) ... the crafting system will be keeping us busy to get the best ones for our particular build which we will probably be switching back and forth to ever be constant.

And people who who diss on AoC don't really know what goes on in the game. The end game of AoC is one of the best ... it just doesn't have the population it should have. Ask any AoC raider who's raided high end content and ask them if they didn't enjoy it or not. Also the free to play isn't truly free to play ... the real meat and potatoes which is Rise of the Godslayer expansion requires a sub. And AoC which supposedly is the worse letdown of Funcom was released in 2008. Now when did it go hybrid free to play first part with limitation? ... in 2011. That is 3 years after launch .. so if TSW is even as bad as AoC .. it's still solid enough to last 3 years till it goes half free to play like AoC is now.

That being said ... I'm waiting to play open beta to decide whether to life-sub or not. Hell .. even betas can't tell you what will happen with a game. I played SWTOR open beta and fell in love with the game ... and well .. we all know what's happening to it now. It might get better in the future though ... but yeah it got old and boring. So the question to ask before life-subbing TSW would be ... you think you'll be playing this game for a year and 4 months?

It's a question best answered by the consumer himself and his game/mmo preferences. It's just like betting on a soccer team ... you could say Funcom's a bad bet because they've lost 2 in a row ... but that 3rd bet you didn't make could be the one you regret.

The game will be about story and experimenting different abilities to progress in the game. Yeah I pre-ordered knowing that the launch has the potential to be full of bugs and stuff. It's a risk I choose to expect and take with AoC's history clear in mind. Still 3 years later I still love AoC and  I have a feeling I will love thise one just as much too.

My major concern is that the game seemed too easy. 3 mobs were attacking me and I was able to kill them with no weapons and one skill on a 30 sec cooldown. They were beating on me for 2 minutes and I still was at half health. I was also able to easily kill a monster that had a skull next to the name (i assume that means it is well above my level)

If it's anything similar to Age of Conan ... then the dungeons will be as challenging as hell. And more so with the superb ability wheel system. The best Cabals will know what builds to work on for different dungeons. The game will be awesome .. I hope a lot of people try this game.
