I may not like many MMOs out today, but that sure is a long way from "hate." Even the genre as a whole, I may be disappointed with its direction, but again, that is a long, long way from "hate."

Why do so many players downright "hate" MMOs?

Same as I 'hate' when someone comes in my office and lets a stinky fart...

lol Now that's a special kind of hate!

You can give any reason. Even excusing beforehand for the comming cliche. Still sounds alot like "Take tha moneh and run!"

It's astonishing someone would even think, let alone say, such a thing. After your first close call health-wise (and it'll happen sooner or later), you'll rethink that callousness.

As a cancer survivor myself, all I can say is, "Godspeed, Mr. Gaffney. Congrats on taking time for what truly matters in this life."

The majority of the human race are just not good people when you combine anonymity + Keyboard = internet badguy/girl. To avoid negative trolls with malicious comment's it might be best to frequent a cancer type forum with more likeminded folks. My 5 Canadian cents.

I understand where you're coming from, I truly do. But you have to realize that the world of New Eden that CCP has created is supposed to be an emulation of a completely dog eat dog society where almost anything can happen. For all intents and purposes you should be happy there are even Hi-sec areas in my opinion.

I have played this game on and off here and there for some time and I am by no means an expert in any way shape or form. But what I absolutely love about this game is that it truly is a vitrual world: one server, go anywhere, do anything. It is trying to portray a futuristic society in space where there is no government. Just those who may or may not be your friends.

I understand you have to pay a subscription, I understand that you've put a lot of time and effort into the game, but this is something that they make you very well aware of and is something that makes the experience something that is truly unique. That fear of griefing, that fear of losing everything. But that's what makes it awesome, the fact that can actually happen, anytime, anywhere, and if you can't handle that then this game isn't for you. Can't you guys imagine that if a world actually did exist like New Eden in space there would be those griefers, those pirates, those scammers? That's what our world is like believe it or not. Just most of us don't see it as we live in a priveleged society where we play video games all day... It's sick but its an accurate portrayal of what that society would be like (I think at least). So CCP, please don't change it. Don't corrupt this immaculate world of no holds barred, deception, profiteering, piracy, backstabbing.. ugh I could go on.

Soon as a few better space sims are released EVE will be closing the doors anyways.  The engine is outdated and cannot keep up. The only ones left will be the ones with a lot of money invested.

I like grinding as long as I see progression or at the end  achieve something.

I think it's obvious that EQN will have amazing innovation features that have never been present in the genre. I think it is articles like this that prove it and anyone who thinks EQN isn't going to be innovative is fooling themselves for personal reasons all because I feel they are upset it isn't going to be a clone of what has come and gone and come again. Love the direction this game is taking but I'll not get too hyped till I see it in action for myself.

I think it is fairly obvious why Tenton Hammer and others have lauded over it's potential with unheralded and unprecedented awards!

EDIT: For some reason it isn't letting me link with the editor so just cut and paste.

Nothing innovative there, same o, same o with a different skin. Majority don't care about NPC's developing and story. That is a small percentage of the majority that will end up trying this game.

Oh wow, the inn keeper remembers me pissing him/her off. Yay!

WHo cares what the majority wants, and why do you think you can speak for them?

I just did, that' why. I am a natural born leader and know what's best.

Now, I haven't played World of Warcraft in about two years.  Friday Night though, I got an email from a friend who still plays telling me she thinks my account was hacked. So, I check battle.net and sure enough my characters are all nekid (gear all sold off) and 2 characters have been transferred with 2 more in Q.  So I have Blizzard call me via support request. Took about 5 mins for the call back and Justin (Bliz rep) had my account restored in about 15 more minutes. and He was kind enough to let me log in for the day to sort everything out. ( get everything out of the mail ect)

So today, I get an email from Trion saying that a "Gift" Founders pack purchase for Archeage could not be completed. Twice! So I login to my Trion account and thank goodness my credit card on file expired in 2012. I tried to contact Trion but since I haven't made any recent purchases I wasnt eligible for live chat. (which I think is pretty bogus) So Ill await the email reply.

The odd thing (to me at least) is I just downloaded and installed Archeage this past Thursday.  Two days later my WoW account is compromised, and then My Trion account?

Now, before you say, well maybe you have a virus?!?! Im an IT Systems administrator. Now does that mean Im "too great" to have a virus, no not at all. The fact is You cant have a cure till you have a disease.

And for the record, I did my due diligence. I ran Super Anti Spyware, Malwarebytes, Housecall, ad-aware and Avast. Also ran a boot time scan of avast.  You know what they turned up? 35 Tracking cookies.  Thats it.

My guess is the archage/glyph application has some vulnerability. Anyone else have a similar issue?

Wouldn't surprise me one bit...

That's what some posts here are saying.  "This game is great", "I love this game", etc.  What?  Are we playing the same game?

I am NOT trying to troll, but man, some people are easily impressed.

This game is exactly like almost all other Asian MMO's.  One person said the story was great.  Really?  I couldn't find much that I was interested about nor could I connect my character to it.  The very first cut scene was cool, but I had no idea what was going on, nor did it even have a voice over to let me know what I was watching.

The game play is the same as almost all other Asian MMOs.  Each area, for the first 10 levels or so (I gave up at level 10 out of boredom), are exactly the same.  There are *only* 2 mobs that endlessly spawn that just hang around the npcs.  The quests are mindless, not even remotely interesting, difficult, or engaging.  I didn't even stand reading them because they were so simple and uncreative that I didn't care.

You walk 10-20 feet, then kill 5 mobs, then walk back 10-20 feet to the npc and get almost the same reward.  How fun!!  Then, you are immediately sent to the next area where you do exactly the same thing, which literally just has 2 mob types that again, just stand around all clumped together, endlessly spawning.  There are only 2-3 quests in each of the first 5 areas.

How can people stand it?  There's no rhyme or reason why these mobs would even be there, nor have 0 roaming, AI, etc.  They are confined to this invisible circle.  You kill a few then move on.  There's NO danger at all and the game, at least early on, is total EZ mode.  I didn't even use a health or mana potion for 10 levels.

So many reviews here/first impressions never look at a game critically.  The narrator said this game was a sandbox and I didn't see that at all.  They seem to just pander to the developers, like they are getting paid to give them favorable reviews.

So, sandbox eh?.  All I say saw was a very linear and boring progression.  In 30 mins, I bounced from 5 different areas, which I was directed to.  Sure, you can move off *a little* from these area, but that's all.  You're not going to find anything "out there", at least not early on.  They even spoon feed you with quest direction markers on the ground to make this game even less challenging, if the terribly simple and mindless quests weren't enough.

As far as the expanded crafting, housing, and pvp (I hear), I couldn't find much interest to stay in the game to get to those.  The base-level game was just too unimaginative, un-engaging, etc.  Talk about ZERO innovation from Asian games.  Ouch.

Like another guy said... "this game is....meh".  I agree.  Pretty graphics don't help the standard formula used in this game.

That was before they tried it. Retention rate is .01%

Because gear grinds are boring.

Guild Wars 1 had gear, but no gear grind, unless you count grinding for cosmetic stuff, which you could readily skip if you didn't like it.

He speaks for himself and a few verbal minority around here.  In all honesty the majority like gear grinds as do I.

I agree, game was terrabad...

WoW comes to mind when I think living breathing world. I remember my first steps into Meridian 59, UO then DAoC vs EQ. Those games mentioned filled a partial void most gamers look for, for some time. Then came WoW which took all the best concepts of those games besides the player looting and housing and made something that felt great.  I remember camping in a hollow log by the Ashenvale crossroads, first time I PvP'd in WoW which was awesome on Shadowmoon server. The world feels alive and with the new garrisons it feels even more alive, all the followers walking around with stories and what not. I know WoW is not what it use to be and never will be as we have played for over 10 years.  When I play with new people to the game they  comment on how the world feels so alive. I don't notice it as the novelty has woren (not sure on spelling and google was not sure). At the end of the day it still has the best game world it feels so living and breathing compared to most mmo's since.

I recently started playing once I got my second 780 gtx. Amazing game with huge battles going on even now. Looks pretty as well.

Thanks for the link, I Will look into this and give the game another go. It's been what feels like  a year since I played. I also have Fiber Optic internet now as well.

your title is what lured me in as saying best MMOFPS as I can't imagine that as it is SoE and their code sucks regardless the game.  When I played Planetside there was ridiculous rubber banding and from what I read it is still the same. I find none of SoE's games play well, some of them have great mechanics or unique features but falls flat at it's core do to poor coding.  I do believe they have recently come a ways in this regard with EQ:Landmark and H1Z1 as they look like the first SoE game that is fluid and plays well.
Why no numbers on how many do something because they want to? Does not seem logical...skewed info from some dude that writes articles on the interwebz.
The calculations in this thread, epic!

1 vanguard

2 Everquest 2

3 SWTOR

4 TSW

5 Shadowbane

6 LOTRO

7 City of Heroes

8 STO

9 The Matrix

But hey I give them credit for selling the masses on their product

They didn't have to sell the masses on it, it sold itself.

This game was pretty awful when it released, and was pretty awful when it re-released.  I have a hard time believing that it won't be awful again, for all the same reasons.

  • Literally tunneled progression.
  • Inconsistent textures and models.  Sometimes they looked OK, other times they looked like high def textures on Doom era models, and other times everything was just low def.
  • Small areas, with little or no story.

I'm sure there's more, but I've thankfully removed much of that experience from my mind.

That's the original trailer from the first time the game released.  AAAAAAAUUUGH!

I didn't mind it, people were not ready before for the survival onslaught style and was looking for something different then.  I think it may make a go this time around, I enjoyed the game when it was first launched, didn't like the re-launch as they made some terrible changes imo. To each their own though...

Im currently playing Battles Islands atm lol. Cheesy little game but fun.

You can play the game right now, but its going to cost you.  I just bought the Saitek X52 for this game. I am still debating which pack to buy atm. It is a toss up between a few.
