can still find over double that amount of htat companies old game DIABLO II.

(Yes before htey worked at flagship studios most of them worked for blizzard, if you didnt already know that)

They have potential witht he game but I think this game was made to earn money to supply.  Im not angered at the players and making fun of anyone for playing it.  Im mainly mad that even people with such talent as these guys (THIS IS IF THIS GAME WAS SERIUS AND NOT JUST SOMETHING TO PLANT THEIR ROOTS) wasted it on a game that, although shows more player involvement than some, made something so simple and easy.

I just hope their next title (other than mythos), if an mmorpg.  Is going to be alittle more difficult, AT LEAST MAKE THE MULTIPLAYER AMUSING AND REWARDING TO MAKE YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH OTHERS.

Whoever plays, hope you have fun, im still waitin on that game to perk my interest like some of the old school titles did.

Thought it was F2P online?

Although this games alot like WoW (if you deny play both and then read the rest of my message) but the fact that is relies more on twtich combat than the new DAOC Fighting style it was alot mroe playable than WoW.  THe only problem i had with it (in alpha) was that the ranged were way too powerful, i could clear out a room faster than with my swordsman (sorry cant remember the names) get more exp w/o taking as much damage.  I got further in less time.  Just didnt seem like the classes were ablanaced much, soon after release I heard the swordsmen had a damage increase but I havent had the money to check it out.

With the twitch combat and the tight leveling curve it gains for its retro RPG feel this game would be alot of fun to play, the only downfall i really see is its INSTANCED Levels.  For an MMORPG To have instances i find it kind of useless AS an mmorpg.  But for something thats free monthly, whose to say its not forgiveable?

3.8/5 stars, great graphics, fun combat

Well I think the only class that was overpowered was the Evoker because at high level evokers were able to run through things too easily but don't forget you can make many types of builds for each class. For instance you can make a Guardian and make him either defensive or offensive and still be very effective. Though either way, the game has progressed nice and it really fun to play.

Having a set path on where to go with these classes kinda irks me.  Reach lvl 40 to get these 3 skills, get to lvl 75 to level up these things.  I dont really see that as very fun. (i am aware there isnt that many levels but level requirements non the less)

I know every game has their own version of this, like even my praise to darkfallonline can be seen with this.  You have 100's of skills to choose from, each ranging from 0 to a max level of 100.  Once you max something to 100 you can move on to something else, EA:  Get 100 swordmanship?  Get dual wielding!  Also withthe whole get to lvl 35 on your sword skill, but it isnt NEEDED in order to be good or cause a boatload more damage, it just helps.

And i do really like the old dev team from the Diablo Series and i gotta say that It was kinda bringing back old memories of playing diablo II.  except in a world i had to explore on the streets instead of from the sky.

The main difference between trash talk in games  like eq, wow and then the god of PVP UO, AC DT, and even something as Shadowbane (I use this game loosely) is that PVP ones (Not so much shadowbane, but using cause open PVP) take more skill and thought into what your actions will do, EQ and what not you cant really get KOS (kill on sight) by anyone so you dont really worry too much about what you say you may just get kicked out of a guild (clan or alliance, didnt play eq was in AC at the time)

The Crap talk was still there, but when did you ever see a football game on tv and didnt see any intimidation goin on :-P.  I can tell you many stories of family gatherings for the super bowl where everyone gets so into the game that crap talk comes into play, friendly and more frustration towards the game.  I fyou ask me i think its more excusable in a game where your putting your actaul time into it, where its something you have to build up and create and not to mention pay monthly for (even if it is kinda cheap, unless your a college student like mah!).  Times can be frustrating and what not, or your just a jackass witha  huge ep33n (basicaly means EGO).

All i can say is I'd rather have OPEN pvp so that if someone runs up and atackins/kills your mob and they tell you yer ghey i can just take my claw and gove it into his trhoat ot her than tell him, OH YA THEN DUEL ME.  Again my own preference to take care of teh lamerz :-)

-.- I`m getting tired of people flaming 2D games...

heck, I never heard anyone complain about graphics in MUD games. because "ya DUH, they`re text based". but even so have rich content and depth that`ll keep lots of players stuck to it.

if any game looks as "horrible" as this one, and it`s made in this time of year, there`s bound to be something to compensate the low fi graphics...

if there isn`t, flame the lack of content, not the graphix.

With all due respect if it doesnt have content are you then allowed to bitch about the crappy graphics?

And what might be content to you might not be content to others.

Like the game i played for several years.  Some people prefered getting different pies to bake and having new clothes to wear and outfits to show off and even wedding ceremony pieces in order to create, while others wanted items that were more balanced for pvp and better things to hunt and less things to keep them from pvping.

Of coruse thats just a side note in any case.

I tried an earlier version of it and it was alright.  But didnt exactly have the GTA feel most are used to, it had more like game modes wher eyou ram cars into each toher or even just pick a car and try to blow each other up.  THey even had helicopters and airplanes.

Havent tried it lately though.

Yeah teh games so easy to play you get alot of people goin in and talking alot of trash tehy wouldnt be able to backup unless they hit the "Accept to duel" button.  Thats why i like more pvp centric games cause not as many people can talk smack unless they're willing to attempt to back it up.

seeing how theres only 720k members on MMORPG.com really theres not much as to accuracy as to what game is the most popular.  Of course this is justa  side note.

I also played the game, wasnt really engaged enough, some interesting elements but still, after playing auto assault.  Too similar.  If there wasnt a monthly fee I would probably buy the game, but not worth it ***TO ME**** to pay the monthly fee for it.

AGAIN MY OWN OPINION

I think people are really unfair to Turbine

It is true that MEO would pwn LOTRO - and many other EQ cloned crap we are seeing in blazing trails of WOW.

But Turbine had agenda to make WOW clone based on Middle Earth , ever since NGE investors are somehow convinced that sandbox MMOs will never bring the profit of linear grinds.

In this way Turbine did the best what can possibly be done with LOTR licence in WOW style.

Actually i have creeping suspicion that Bioware MMO will not be much unlike LOTRO

As for MEO...we can only dream.

Dream that was shattered by WOW financial succes

Turbine is like a mini SOE.  After playing a few of turbines game (for for more than 3 years) I can tell you right now they dont show as much interest in their player base as they pretend.  Main reason companies go with the clones is because the tech is already there and all you hav eto do is fill in the gaps and make new models, sounds and animations, saves alot of money also brings in a huge chunk.

Turbine has some of the laziest dev's and although Asheron's call will always be my first love ( just in the gaming world =P) it still saddens me how they always neglect their gamers wishes.  (We're not talking about revamping the entire game, although would be nice, but things like bug fixes and what not is too much to ask)

Lol i kinda like WoW being considered "Normal" games.

Even though theres really no such thing as NORMAL games, unless you look at hoop and stick.  That was a normal game.  Or hey sega genisis had some normal games.  Really whats abnormal about AOC.  You do the same stuff, kill npcs, pvp alittle and then interact with the game.  WOW an mmo that has some blood in it.  ABNORMAL.

Idk thought it was kinda funny.

well war is a DAOC clone....that came before WoW,  WOw is a DAOC but the thing is war is allowed cuase thats the first makers.  And yes theres a handful of titles right now that ARE DAOC clones.

lol, have you played any of the 3 games listed?

yes you are allowed to say if you've played warhammer.

just because warhammer is made by mythic who is the studio that made DAoC, does not by anymeans make it a "clone".

the games look nothing alike, play nothing alike and besides the basic "standard" mmo concepts and features(meaning stuff every mmo shares) they are basically nothing alike.

how is wow a daoc clone?

daoc had no instances. sure there were places where you had to zone into to get into such as the BG's and DF and a few minor caves, but you shared all these places with poeple who were not in your group.

wow is chock full of instances.

daoc had very few quests and not much of a story line to them.

wow is all quests and most of them have a story behind it. whether you think its an engaging story or not doesnt change the fact that its still a story.

daoc has siege warfare. now granted i havent played a ton of mmos(DAoc, swg, wow, tr, eve, eq2,vg, lotro are it) i dont see any seige warfare in any of them. tr comes close but not really.

I understand that warcraft(not world of warcraft per se) is based off of warhammer. so yes you can argue the origional versions of the warcraft game(table top anyone?) were clone-ish.

please, stop with all the clone this, clone that attitudes. actually have some clue as to what you're talking about before you open your mouth.

Yeah get this, copy right infringement.  Tahst why you always see little differences in games that are so much alike.  Look at the combat, look at the way things feel.  Just because theres a few differences doesnt mean their not basicaly the same game.  Im not even gonna waste my time, Just compare it to you have a bike your extremely proud in.  I get hte same one and i put a differen coat of paint on it and a baseball card to hit the spokes.....COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BIKE .

Thats basicaly whats going on here, and after seeing how WAR's gonna turn out to be, not really all that much different (But different enoughto say hey THIS ISNT DAOC 2 ITS WAR! WOOHOO).

Really i dont care if you like the game or not, if you do super keep playing.  But thats what it comes down too (Oh ya btw, eq2, sun, 9dragons are just a small snippet of what DAOC clones are *Cough* LOTRO*Cough*)

But go ahead and flame away to think that you rbreaking from the mold, cause i see how much that small statement rattled you so.

well war is a DAOC clone....that came before WoW,  WOw is a DAOC but the thing is war is allowed cuase thats the first makers.  And yes theres a handful of titles right now that ARE DAOC clones.

You know after thinking about it.  There is nothing wrong with just having a huge number of crafting objectives to accomplish.  I mean first off your catering to people that want a simulated enterprise (SWG is my best recollection of one of these) not only that but they work on capitalism which can either help the guild their in or help their establishment whether its an alliance or just his littl emansion.  Then you of course have the combat and what not tha twork off of that.  Not only is this good for just player economy (giving people that actaully like doing certain things the chance to do that) but its also fun for the certain players.

I know i wouldnt want to spend hours just trying to make awesome weapons...but some people actaully like that, and if it makes it more engaging for someoen to build stronger weapons to maintain their guilds superiority I think they should be allowed.

I do believe that making content soloable, but requiring people to team up in order to get the "Top end items" is wrong.  Not only a waste of time but just what is the point.  (Asheron's call DT or Carebear  servers are the best idea of what I have in mind)

In all Honesty (next to UO) SWG had the best of all the added combo's (Crappy combat system but great economic system) as a 3d game.  Darkfall has the best of all (in theory) just hope it holds true.

Come to think of it this might actually be a good idea.  Vote it vaporware and the dev's might hink GOD DAMNIT.  And just release a lonnng term beta, not to mention how much quicker htey could get work done with alot of feed back.  Got my vote in.

Really although it does look bad after 7 years (7 years ago the idea came out, 4 years ago they started, 2 years ago they scratched everything and restarted, no they're updating and tweaking shizzz).  The amount of employees they had working on the game compared to how much they want to accomplish has to count for something.

I mean yeah im not exactly head over heels for it, the idea i am, but the game itself i will love if it comes out but im not going to just sit like a puppy and wait for it to come into my lap.

Keep in mind that with the amount of effort that is needed to make good quality products is pretty ambiguous and not to mention since this isnt jus tsome WoW clone that you can jus tcopy paste edit, its going to be awhile.  And if this does end up coming out and meeting our expectation........i hope i dont see you there, cause i want to soak up all the fun for myself.

I always wonder why virtually no developers have realized that there is in fact no rule that states that MMOs have to be about leveling up a character through combat and going from one zone to the next as you level up.

I know there are some exceptions, like UO, Runescape, EvE, but it seems like most developers (Even the ones who try to make something new) still feel like this is how an MMO must function.  Level up, do quests to get XP faster if they have quests, go to new area, and repeat.  Then get to max level and kill bigger monsters with a bigger group.

Why not have a game with no endgame where your actions contribute to how the whole world perceives you, no levels, just interactions with NPCs and Players in different ways.  For instance: In order to kill this demon you need to use this special sword, however their are only 5 on each server and when a player holding it dies a random NPC will find it, you must find that NPC and they will tell you that they wont give you the sword because they dont believe your heart is pure....thats it....thats all they tell you, its up to you to convince them that you are worthy, through figuring out what would convince them of this.

No numbers attached, (at least not visually, programming wise there would have to be "levels" to show progression)

Why not have dynamic events, like suddenly one of the major towns has a new king and secretly is turning the town into a paradise for a secret underground terrorist organization, you can either join them and make this a reality, or fight the power switch.

Things like this, creative events, not connected in any way to 'level up combat, go to new area, buy new sword, rinse and repeat', would make an amazing MMO

Im not really sure what your trying to say in that first "My deam mmo" thing but the whole Underground even thing is pretty cool sounding.  Have events ran but dont really tell anyone about them.  would not only make devs earn their wages by having quite a few of these at once but then at the same time there would be some extra bonuses to "Joining a terrorist org" or even "Joining a freedom fighter/mercenarie" type of deal.

NOt many games it would go with right now (SWG probably wouldve fit this the best) but ya....   All we really need is more sandbox games

My own opinion about video games and the lack of certain aspects of combat and gameplay made me quit WoW 1 month into the game, but i can still admit that blizzard did a hell of a job with advertising.  If you think about it, no matter how big the decline is, get some Percentiles of the game, cause with 9+ million subscriptions of course any drop in number is going to be "huge" compared to most other games.  If this game really flops it will kinda stop money flow and thats not exactly what this country (USA) needs right now.  So i do kinda hope that WoW picks it up cause especially if we're siphoning from Europe and Asian countries thats better for us. WooHOo!

The only game i can think of thats going to break the stereo type your talking about is darkfall, but of course thats not really looking up right now.

We want the "Whip" (if your talkin slavery than sure its a bit "inhumane" but we're talkin video games so i think its more of a slap on the wrist) because its somewhat rediculous to run into battle slash away, die, run back into battle, slash away, die.  This at least gives you the need to actaully think about what your doin instead of going all WoW into the game.  You can see the reasoning behind it on games like Asheron's Call when they introduced PK-lite.

It works GREAT for pvp, PvE shouldnt really need it since now a days monsters are pretty easy.

All in all good post, actaully read it all the way through lol.  (And I agree, old school UO rules = teh pwnt)

Im gona clear this up, just because i say its like AA doesnt mean i say IT IS GOING TO FAIL especially as quick as AA did.  I was apart of the AA open beta, and even pre-ordered (during the mmo rut, even when i recieved it never opened it thinkin about selling on ebay just to see if i can get a few bucks outta it LOL).  Im just saying that how DAOC turned into so many games, NCsoft seemed to have made this game its "DAOC engine".

I will admit it can possibly be fun and all, i mean hell i dont mind just running around random areas shooting at random people and reloading, kicks the hell outta being bored.  Im just kinda tired at how lazy some of these gaming companies are getting.

*Disclaimer*  Yes i understand they do work and all and that i know i probably would feel it if i was working behind a desk for hours on end for a game i wish to develope...but what happened to the unique days where every game had its own signature or style of gameplay, i know theres only so much you can make different but come on!
