Well you can get an AMD dual core, but apparently the INTEL dual cores are getting better benchmarks.  I'd wait for a while longer bro and just wait for the quad cores to come down in price after release.  unless you wanna play wiht pretty graphics sooner than i'd proly get like a e6600 intel for the speed. ( not an intel fan so if i got the model number wrong please correct)

Mostly you wanna keep your eye on the Cache sizes,  128 isnt bad for l1 but l2 you want something from 1mb to 2mb range, whether it single or dual core.  That helps with speed.
Blizzard went wrong when they made WoW as sissy as they could, instances dont belong to the world of WoW nor does the gam eneed to portray an optimized version of DAOC (If you dont see then please /endself now).

Darkfall will have those long lasting effects and is being made mainly around pvp.  But they have alot of PVE aspects too, mostly because the components for spells, armor, weapons and other things can be found on monsters and the landscape.  I love the idea of that game and the fact of its open PVP and the no ones overpowered idea.

Lol i like how you talk about skill, then bring up camping.

Anyway pvp arenas, sure fine they're alittle more personal and you only have 4v4 maybe at most sometimes.  But whats the point of it?  To gain points or to go up ina  ranking system?  Whats the pleasure in that?  Theres no sense of danger and im certain there would probably be no chance of loss in a controlled environment such as that.

The point is to have fun with friends in a challenging enviroment.

I don't play chess or football to gain points or rank either.
I seek neither danger nor loss from my computer games. It's my hobby, I do it for pleasure.

And winning......is it's own reward.

Camping is a skill. The more you do it, the better you get at it, you have to learn the right spot, which players know what spots, and most of all, it takes discipline. Patience. I am the hunter.

A well rounded PvPer knows all the best tactics and when to use them, not just how to bumrush like a 13 year old with an itch. If you are playing in defense and you can't camp, your team will lose.

@Modjoe, nothing kills a multiplayer game faster than politics. It's the single biggest reason players leave in my opinion. A load of stressheads taking a game too seriously and trying to impose their will on others.

Thats more of a game like Quake III and what not.  Or hell even Savage.  In an mmo why would you just leave it to small shard of people when you have thousands to play with?  Thats how I look at it.  And im sorry but what good is a fort if it cant be destroyed.

Now towards your "Its just a game" theory, if you feel that way then whats wrong with losing things?  You hunt all day finding the right gloves and the last month you just got some armor and a weapon and youd ont wanna lose it right?  Well if thats true then you might wanna try darkfall online.  It makes it so items are extremely easy to come b y, nothings rare unique or overpowered.  No uber sword of slaying.

When you die, you lose your items you pick more up then you press on (For a fee of course).  And the art of winning in a true pvp environment isnt XX amount of points but EXP and items.

And camping isnt a skill, thatslike saying the awp from CS is entirely skill.  Camping IMO is laziness, you dont want to feel endangered or even have the chance of getting damaged so you find a nice cozey spot where no one can see you then throw things at people when they swing by ya.   Happens to be one of my biggest pet peeves in all games out are the lowely  campers.  FEIGN DEATH ON THE OTHER HAND, entirely uber ^_^.

And also its not camping you get better at its the item you use.

Lol i like how you talk about skill, then bring up camping.

That system isnt true PVP.  You guys are pretty intelligent make up some kinda word for o.0 pvp.  True PVP is when your running for your life (Old school darktide, UO).

One of my favorite chats i had aboutinstances, for example with a WoW player.  "Whats the point of defending a dungeon in order to hunt in it, that would mean that I would have to stop fighting monsters and fight players and possibly die and respawn at my cemetary and run all the way back there"

Although yes it can be annoying, if done right PVP can also help you gain levels (shadowbane just implemented pvp EXP even though i know shadowbane is too far gone to fix lol.  Darkfall also has this implemented).  I dont understand why you would play a game and talk about how crazy the pvp is when all it is, is in certain controlled environement.

Now directly towards your post about that arena style.  I know theres games like COH and what not that arent really ment to pin player vs player so they add in the arena just to allow players to test their skills.  Being a pvper I hate the idea of it, but i understand not everyone likes it.

And although we hate zergs and what not it would still be awesome looking over your castle walls to see about 300 men charging your castle, then looking back to your 300 soldiers and telling them to press beyond thwa lls while your 70 archers fire over the walls (think of lord of the rings).  Thats my dream of an uber pvp game *cough* Darkfall *cough*
Translation: If the games built around instancing it'll work.

Probably my biggest beef with the game is the fact that you can only pvp in certain areas.  THats my main and only beef with the game for the time being.

Darkfall ^_^

But aside from that the graphics are really nice, not huxley nice, but still a 10 rating lol.  Oh ya and theres big ups for twitch combat

But this is coming from a PVP'ers perspective, I don't care much for PVE raiding or uber loot.

I'm calling bullshit on this right now.  That's not a True PvP'ers stance, that's a GANKERS stance.  A Frag-Fest is just as meaningless as instanced PvP, infact it's more-so.  True PvP'ers strive to have a clean match where neither side has huge clear-cut advantages going into it.  Guildwars is the perfect example of this as it has Ladders which for the most part, REALLY DO MEAN SOMETHING to the thousands of players who watch the rankings and not just the people in one or two guilds.   "King of the hill" monkey business over some dinky raidable little fort might mean something the to individual n00bs who are involved in that particular fight, but it's always going to be a fleeting victory that a buncha Australian Ninjas can put an end to just hours after it happens.   More importantly, the "Tournament" style PvP formats usually award the winners tangible benefits, sometimes even cold hard cash.

And none of that is possible without using Instanced Combat scenarios.

Oh really, and you would know this because? Sounds to me like your MMORPG experience is limited to WOW and GW, possibly SWG? Ever tried UO pre tram, how about Darktide?

Ok I dont really care for quake 1 that much i dont think it has much to do with MMORPGS other then some sort of REP that a player can get.  But I realize old school UO was pretty damn harsh.  And GD was old school darktide not the best damn place ot be in for a pvper?   <3  I was ChildoftheKoRn, wasnt that great or that high of a level but still ran around those days as a lower level extreme melee able to hold my own at times haha.

Sometimes graphics and even physics give hte game that much of a Uberistic feel lol.  I used to say the same thing, but now im stuck on counter-striek source even though i feel 1.6 is alot better hahah. Just cause its so damn pretty.

I think even then instances shouldnt be allowed IN A PVP ENVIRONMENT.  Yet again darkfall is my dream game so that COULD be MY fault in YOUR eyes

Really depends what kind of game your playing.  PVE games its probably ok for games like COH and what not if its completely o.0/carebear/PVE.  IF its more of a PVP game its HORRIBLE.

What would be the point of playing a pvp game with instances when you dont even have to defend anything, would take away more of something that actaully has meaning to fight over *Cough* WOW *Cough*.

Theres not really a whole hell of alot that goes bad when its in a pve game but once it comes into pvp alot of the reason to pvp (Ownership of land and dungeons and even supremecy over parts of a map) pretty much gets taken away.

actually, it's worse than that. almost all AC players have more than one account. many of those subscriptions are for bots. Either way, I don't think the game is anywhere near death. The servers I play on (DT and SC) still have dedicated players.  There is still plenty of questing and trading going on.  The game's community just went from a medium sized city to Mayberry. Everyone knows everyone. What the game needs more than anything is to combine all the servers.  In it's heyday, AC had 15k server pop during peak hours. One server can handle all of AC's current players easily, and the landscape/dungeons are plenty big enough for anyone to find a place to play.  I never worry that a new player won't like AC's style. I just worry they will think the game is a ghost town. The game has more (and better) quests than anything else I have played, but you actually have to search to find the quests. No big yellow question marks or quest logs to tell you exactly what to do.  I am glad to see that Turbine is making the game accessible to new players. I think DDO's lackluster performance really gave them a wake-up call (like AC2 should have).

Rofl 1 server cant even handle 300 people simultaneously.

This game has the best dynamics i've seen (excuse me if missuse of the word).  It has the best pvp controls and player skill needed to be involved which is mostly the reason you see the DT players playing, or hell even pk's on white worlds.

But I dont recommend this game for anyone coming in clean fresh to the market.  This game is for people who have played, or have hook ups IG.  The lack of good hunting spots and the constant grinding for leveling.  And the imbalance.

This game needs alot of work which would enly in the mechanics coding which was horribly done they looked to doing it and just scrapped that idea cause they said it was just put together so randomly it seemed.  Jessica Muligan, a former developer, admitted multiple times of hating pvp and the things she implemented did nothing but ruin what pvp had goign for it.  Its been fairly balanced with the recent pvp patch but there is still alot wrong seeing how you need to hunt for items, get the salvage for hte items, find a trustworthy player and then tinker it which is extremely bugged (Failing at 100% chance for success, hmmmmmm odd anyone?)

I love this game to death and I will actually be pleased if the sales numbers are correct for it may give them a reason to look back into the game and make it LIIIIIIIIVE.  But untill some major fixes come into it, i cant wait for darkfall to be released.
