I've been in the beta several weeks. About two weeks ago I would have told you this game had a ton of potential to be great fun(when finished). Its a little different than everything else out there(in a good way). However, a bit over a week ago they did an update that messed up a great deal in the game(combat balance, dragon stats, leveling speed, gear stats, ect...). Also, the game is simply NOT ready for the public. Everyone that was in the closed beta was under the impression open beta was many months away(and rightfully so) right up until they made the official announcement. There are a TON of things in game that still are not translated properly(skills, abilities, masteries, item descriptions, travel NPC dialogue). Many quests are broken, unfinished or downright incomprehensible.
The engine needs more optimization, tons of complaints from people on Low-midrange systems. I personally have a very high end system(i5@4.6Ghz, 16gb, 2x gtx 670 4gb), but the game does not utilize crossfire or SLI so my rig is gimped. It runs fine on a single monitor, but triple monitor(5760x1080) is out of the question :(
SOE has been VERY, VERY non communicative. We don't get patch notes, updates or feedback on what is being changed. We have to trawl the EU or Tiawan forums to see what has changed in their version of the game to find out what we are getting. The little communication we do get is very "eh, whatever -insert non committal, cant be bothered non answer-". The only exception being discussions on where and how they can implement more "Station cash" fees. This game is going to be "free" just like early versions of SOE games FTP conversions. You can log in, but you have to spend money to so much as walk. I honestly get the feeling SOE cares very little about this game at all. Its like a little side project they got talked into publishing but cant be bothered to put any real effort into furthering it to make it good/great. They are just going to toss it out there and milk it for as much cash as they can before shutting it down.
I honestly cant decide whether to preorder a VIP pack because I hope the game can get back to where it was headed two weeks ago. Or just walk away and never look back because they obviously don't listen or care what the community wants. :( they just took the server down for a HUGE patch(with zero notice)...maybe its a miracle patch and everything will be perfect after(we don't have patch notes)......I'll let you know. |

"Space Colonization" coming to EvE in the future!

Wow, I actually suggested this exact feature to them several years ago in a wormhole discussion thread...... This would be awesome!.....but as others have said it would take CCP years to even be close to making it real. |

Ok I just spent 4 solid hours playing this game. Its actually a great deal of fun. Kind of a Spore meets Oregon trail in space game. The building and creating aspect is engrossing(I've never played minecraft). I'm supporting it. If the alpha is this fun(and bug free so far for me) a fully supported and finished product is going to be fantastic. |

If you don't like the holy trinity, come up with something better.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/10/13 11:32:28 AM
ASHERONS CALL
This game threw out the holy trinity yet people grouped. You could have any combination of skills you wanted. When grouped everyone DPSd, everyone healed, everyone tanked. People had completely individual builds yet still needed numbers to accomplish goals/quests. No "raid" or quest required X tanks, X healers, X DPS ect. It also allowed groups larger than 6...... While this game was not a smashing sucess as measured by subscription numbers. Anytime this game is mentioned you hear nothing but rave reviews of people who played it for YEARS(not weeks/months). If only it had a better graphics engine......

I spent several years in AC. Loved it! But as others have said the super dated graphics make it difficult to return. That and the fact that it is mostly a ghost town. I just sit around missing my old friends and thinking "If only this game had current gen graphics and a relaunch"
Asherons Call with CryEngine 3...... *drools* |

Is Microsoft endangering the Longevity of MMO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/10/13 7:59:43 PM
Windows has been around longer than the modern MMO, and dominant nearly the entire time. I dont see it changing anytime soon. :) Though I do see MMOs branching out to other media. Android has a WoW-ish clone already.

EQ1- How were you introduced to the game? How old were you, experiences you had?.
Hogcaller Inn (General) « Everquest 2/05/13 5:24:56 AM
I think I was like 21 at the time. I had just bought my first PC. After buying a couple of cheap games for it and wanting more I picked up a copy of PCgamer magazine. There was an ad for EQ in it(it had just been released) and it looked interesting. So I ran out and bought EQ at an Electronics Boutique(now gamestop). Got home and realized it wouldnt really fit on my 3.2gb hard drive. I deleted any bit of windows 95 I didnt need and BARELY managed to squeeze EQ on it. It was then I discovered I couldnt play it because I didnt have a "Video Accelerator card"......back to Electronics Boutique to buy a Voodoo2 1000 12mb video add on card(major wife agro...). Finally I connected to the internet with the good old dialup modem music and entered EQ. Mind blown. I've been hooked on MMOs ever since :) One funny thing was I almost gave up on EQ after a few weeks. The graphics screen was so small it was giving me a headache. I was playing on a 15" monitor(1024x768 maybe?) and didnt know there was a "full screen view". I had been playing with that screen where the character class graphic took up the left side of the screen and some other menus took up the other side. The actual graphics only on about 1/4 of the screen. I happened to see someone mention "taking a screenshot" in chat. And while attempting it I accidentally hit the wrong F-key and went into full screen view. Wow, amazing graphics!

Trion , bring in factional servers and you got me for life!

I am all for options though. Extra servers with factional options wouldnt hurt anyone. |

For people who've tried it - is it really that small?
General Discussion « ArcheAge 1/17/13 4:14:11 PM
Originally posted by Dantae87 You dont know what anyone is saying. But it is MMO enough that you can kinda figure things out. For instance when you get a quest... follow the pointer. Your quest tab says 0/5 I#@L find the things called I#@L and collect/kill them :P Obviously it doesnt work for everything. And there were some really neat quests that I only figured out because I was in voice comes with translators :)
I kinda liked it that way..I got to play the beta...without really ruining the game for myself at launch. I"ll go back through all those quests in NA release going "oooooh, thats what they were saying!" |
