It makes no sense to me that games are designed with this mentality in mind.  Because when you think about it, the content that you experience while leveling is probably like 95% of the game.  Endgame stuff is normally just a few raids and maybe heroic dungeons or whatever...in either case it involves repeating content over...and over...and over.  But the leveling content...that's the actual world!  And MMO worlds are usually huge.

So this is so stupid to me...why do people view the vast majority of the game content as just a "grind" to get to that 5% end-game where they can repeat the same raids and dungeons over...and over...?

I think the answer lies in the fact that the game will not let you do end-game stuff until you are max level...which basically separates you from your friends.  If you make a new character, you really can't play with your max level friends until you are max level.  So you just view the largest portion of game content (leveling) as a "grind" because it's standing in the way of you, and what you really want to do, which is play with your buddies.

I really hope that newer games knock these ridiculous barriers between players down.  If I want to make a new character, I should be able to play with my buddies from day 1.

^ this. plus "end game" tends to have more epic zones, dungeons, or bosses and knowing that makes the rest of the game, the majority of the game, pale in comparison

The price points for both versions seem expensive to me. At $15 a month to play the game, the subcribers should be given the next expansion or charged something more reasonable. Also, paying $20 more for a mount, a banner, and profile pictures is a little out of line too.

If they are losing memberships wouldn't lowering the cost (both monthly costs and cost of expansions) entice people to rejoin or take a 2nd look at the game?

I remember it saying it was around 12gb when I DLed it the other night

Now the PVE portion needs protected from level 80 toons downing the early dynamic event bosses with 1 or 2 shots for example, thus taking away the game experience from lowbies. 

Level 10 toons in level 80 PVE areas would make no sense to me.  Just like in other MMOs you should die very quickly.  I think it's ArenNets intent as well, to keep us in a storyline and do "A" zone then "B" zone and maybe skip some zones along the way to go back to later(scaled down of course)

Now microtransactions, everyone's favorite topic, may have items allowing you to achieve level 80 quicker in order to play the harder content with friends or family.  We shall see.  But they can always come back to your zone and assist(scaled down of course)

I think it's a great feature EITHER way it goes (scale up, scale down, etc.). MOST games don't even have this feature included. So enjoy/use what's given or play the 100s of alternatives.

I guess I don't see the big deal . WHY skip content here or in any game for that matter? Want be level 80 day 1? Go pvp, show off your day 1 skills (good luck with that =P). Want to play the level 30 dungeon on day 1? Well play 28 more days and EARN your ability to hang in there and fight those baddies, learn your profession, learn your skills; your scaled down, lvl 80 buddies might appreciate a more competent team mate.

I decided to check out TotalBiscuit's video and the Heart value is the same 215. That 700 something value refers to Points of Interest, like the lumber camp he was next to. And look, the Wiki tells you exactly what those values mean and they are not Dynamic Events. As far as I know there is no value to track how many Dynamic Events you've completed (might be one in the Achievements Pane but not the map).

Also read this. She even mentions that people mistake Hearts for Dynamic Events.

I was wondering a bit about the events. I know that these mini events aren't world altering for the most part, but during your beta experience did you see any or hear of any that went beyond the first phase? Also, do these event reset and if so how soon/often?

Basically, if I do a kill X uber boss quest can someone walk up a minute later and kill the same X uber boss?

You forgot to mention the beta access, hero's band and the 3 day head start for the pre-purchase.

I really wish I could get the Collector's Edition, but since I have to buy one for my girlfriend, I'll settle for 2 Digital Deluxe editions. AND since she's a mac user I still have to figure out the best way to get her playing asap.
