Thanks man, good news!

Hey, np. I had to clear up the confusion. People were saying "at minimum there will be 3 specializations", "It doesn't make since to say specialize and there only be one. Specialize means options".

I even got called an ***hole for saying "Just 1 weapon, 1 heal, 1 elite and a few utilities" and for me thinking it would be that way is "to put it mildly, stupid". Turns out it is just one weapon the profession couldn't use before, 1 heal, one elite and a few utilities.

I don't believe that GW2's WvW is even in the same stratosphere as ESO's AvA. In fact I was very skeptical of ESO's AvA and Cyrodiil because I had played GW2's WvW. I feel this way for a number of reasons. Cyrodiil is huge, keeps just don't flip, defense is very important, keep design there're huge compared to WvW's, battles can last hours, AvA is 3 factions, I can go on.

Well see what changes they make to WvW with their expansion, but right now today for me there is no comparison.

Damn, only PTR? Well looks like I won't be subscribing at all then, not playing the game in the state it's currently in. Here's hoping march comes quickly, I'll be spoiled for choice then!

They said they plan to push 1.6 before March 17th. B2P and cash shop will go live March 17th.

Shacknews: The expansion is set to introduce some new mechanics. Can you explain more about Mastery and Specializations?

Johanson: Specializations is a new system that allows you to take each of the professions we have in the game and grow them almost into a new sub-profession or secondary profession. An example of this is, a Ranger can become a Druid. Once a Ranger becomes a Druid, they have the ability to use the powers of the jungle and that gives them new skills, new traits, they can use a new weapon that a Ranger could never use before, and they get new profession mechanics that fundamentally change the way a Ranger plays when they become a Druid. Each of the professions will be getting one of these Specializations and this also is a framework that we'll use to grow the professions in the future. This will be the way we add more skills, traits, and abilities to the game moving forward. That's how we're growing our existing professions.

I quit after 3 weeks too so you are not alone OP. People are so excited about B2P change but they forget that fundamental problems that drove so many players away won't be fixed by change in payment model.  Low population and fall in subs was just the effect and not the causation.

What fundamental problems? Also, why are you camping ESO threads if you dislike that game so much?

Btw, I agree that hot bar is too limited. 8-10 skills is optimum imo but console controller doesn't have more buttons I guess.

Well, as someone who played the game since the first closed beta, I can attest to some of those fundamental problems:

  1. Lack of playstyle diversity. Every character, no matter which class or how you customize it, ends up playing in the exact same way. Spam skills, hold block, occasional dodge roll. There are no interesting underlying mechanics like in other MMOs, which keep things interesting. This is especially true in PvP, where everyone is pretty much required to slot a heal or dmg shield and play a healer type character in order to be competitive. With no cooldowns or drawbacks to using certain abilities, specialization is punished and everyone becomes the same type of "hybrid character", with the exact same gameplay.
  2. Role of CC. This has been an issue with other games, people don't like getting "stunlocked" to death, but removing it entirely (let's face it, it's a "drain stamina" skill, not a reliable CC) is only dumbing down the game. Other solutions could have been explored, but I don't think CC will ever be a relevant factor after B2P.
  3. Lack of attributes & meaningless character progression. Since they made the decision to dumb down the game & use only health, magicka & stamina as attributes, you end up pretty much the same character as everyone else. It matters little how you spend your attribute points, since you'll be fine tuning your stats anyhow with gear, and you are not able to accurately represent your character in a RPG manner (e.g. how strong, agile or smart he/she is etc). This also causes itemization to lack a lot of depth & fun it could've had. Each item in game is just "5 more stamina" or "3 more magicka", until they eventually flat out at max. level, ending up the same across the board (only set bonuses matter).
And I'm sure I could think of others, but these are just the top 3 for me.

As for why people "camp ESO threads", many of us are interested in having quality products in the future, and the best way to make sure this happens is by providing feedback.

I completely disagree with your assessment, especially #1.  I play a Stam NB Werewolf. I have no damage shield and if I hold block, I'm a sitting duck. I'm highly mobile. As far as #2, One of the names I tossed around for this build was "Blah Blah Controller" My CC and Area control are Devastating. #3 There are a lot more stats than that... Sure I too would love old scool D&D stats, but I have enough to manage. My stats on my main are perfect. The stats on my alt suck...

The systems you see as faults, are why I still play ESO. I'm a chronic specologyst and I've had enough to fiddle with playing one toon for nearly a year..

side note- Sorry for calling you a Newb as in Newbie OP. I meant no harm. There is nothing wrong with being new. We all were newbs once. We answer newbs questions in ESO and give them advice.

"That's actually a lot of the genesis of Heart of Thorns: being able to put in these endgame character progression systems so that we can release content in the jungle that requires you to have played all of the jungle to build up the abilities you need to solve that content."

"I think, fundamentally, you're going to encounter stuff in the jungle that is very challenging to overcome that you can't defeat at all until you've built up the masteries to face those challenges"

Eeeh, I don't think I like how this sounds. Like Jason said "it sounds like a gear check", but with skills instead. Not personal ability, but skills. If you aren't mastery rank X in Y then you wont be able to do Z.

Awesome interview Jason. You get better each time.

This was announced day. ESO has a lot of subs OP. I'm sure they want to keep them as subs.

In all honesty OP Idk if those 10% are enough to keep my sub. The 10% to inspiration maybe, but idk.

OP don't listen to people like that. They are a dying bread in ESO. You rarely here things like that anymore because they simply are no true. If you want to play a heavy armor tanky temp, do it. Your biggest issue right now is that you are level 14 :) You are missing A LOT of what makes Templars nearly unkillable. Keep building your way, you'll be fine. That's one of the cool things about ESO. You can find away to make it work.

The Crown Store is part of the patch so I'm guessing the plan to take it live in February is now gone and this will be the March 17 patch. No official word... I'm just guessing.

Gina or Jessica said they plan to push it live before the crown store on the Mar. 17th if testing goes well.

It wasnt in the PTR already? I thought it would go live at the end of this month...I guess it will come with B2P...

Anyway i m curious to see patch notes and the plans about the shop.

Nope as they have said for months now it will hit pts in January and it will go live most likely the end of february early march.

Yeah this is pretty awesome. I can't wait to read the patch notes.

Dang it you beat me too it!.

I WILL BE THE 1ST TO POST PATCH NOTES!!@

According to Colin and Mike, the druid specialization for druid fundamentally changes how a ranger is played. I'm sorry but claiming that 1 elite and 1 new weapon fundamentally changes how a class is played is mildly said, stupid.

Don't get mad at me, I agree it IS stupid. 37:45 1 elite, 1 heal.

Feel free to listen to 39:00 as he talks about 1 weapon per specializtion per profession.

I was hoping for more too. Glad to see we're on the same page. Don't hate me, love me I'm here to help.

Awesome. This is all due to O.M.F.G. (Operation make faster game). About a year ago the programmers were able to boost frame rates for nearly everyone by 50%. Today PS2 is a feaking technical marvel. Gratz to the entire PS2 dev team, Tramell included for making an awesome game.

Not an extremely classy move in my opinion.

Where did they EVER SAY GH would be in game? They said they would like them but with the way the original server system was, there was no way it was possible.

Another poster who can't read - maybe and would try = it will be in game at the beginning.

gw2 threads are always so fun

Thank you so much. I could have sworn that they said that, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Excuse me while I go edit my original comment again. I was actually correct.  So there you go Guild Wars 2 crusaders.

A forum moderator probably asked someone pushing a broom next to him how he should answer the question. This is hardly an official answer. haha. Oh my word you guys have to be kidding.

Martin Kerstein is Head of community and content marketing. He was speaking on Eric Flannum, GW2's Lead designer's comments.

AND Neura found it. Post is at the top of page 3. NOT ME lol

I've not tried it, could some one tell me how solo-friendly the game is?     What about end-game gear?  Does that require grouping/raiding?

Very friendly and no it does not. Gear is just flavors in ESO. There are a couple sets that drop from trials, but they are no better than crafted gear.

I just went back to look at a skill calculator for my Necro. Here was my problem. Main hand dagger, scepter, axes - 3 skills for each. The first skill for each is a basic strike. Strike 1 once, strike twice, strike 3 times, very similar. Off hand dagger, focus, warhorn. 2 skills each. Or I could use a staff that took up all 5 skills. 3 ground target circles and a basic strike attack similar to the other 3 mentioned above.

If I ran dagger main plus w/e and staff for a swap, I would naturally pick traits to buff those weapons. By the time I quit I had played every combination in every way. That took me about 3/12 to four weeks. That was when I realized that this is what I was going to be stuck with forever unless I rerolled.

I had always wished that each weapon had more slotable skills. Instead of main hand dagger being the same 3 attacks, I wished that main hand dagger would give a choice of maybe 3 skiills per slot that I could slot. There simply were not many ways to tailor my character to my play style.

That's certainly one way to play the class.

Tbh none of the top necro builds atm work that way, though. Most atm work off of deathshround, and the weapons you choose are either there to give you life force, or to give you extra utility / damage in between shrouds. There's also minion master specs, which work primarily off your utility skills, well specs that work primarily around those utilities, condi specs which work mostly off buffing your condition damage, blind specs (especially chilling darkness) which work primarilly off debuffing / hindering enemies.

There's a lot of different ways you can focus a class, and that doesn't even get into stats / runes / sigils. Compare that to most other MMOs, and you really only have a few specs to choose from. It's especially bad once you start looking at the WoW clones.

I played death shroud first. It was the most warlockish of the builds. Then I  played minion master. I played a condition build also, thus the staff. Circle circle circle, blow them up and spread. This does not change your weapons attacks though.

When I left GW2 I bought Pandaland... Something I said I would never do after leaving during Cata. The thing that was most striking after being away for nearly a year, was that in WoW I had 25+ abilities available to me at one time. I used all of them. I had far more choice for different situations. WoW is wow though I left never to return after about the same amount of time spent in GW2.

I fully aware that this is my opinion and my problems with GW2. You may not feel the same way and that's fine. I was hoping this expansion gave more options for weapon attacks.
