This, one extra character slot would be  a great deal over 5 day bank slot.

They are serious?? I'm gonna get soaked a minimum of $60 just to have the right to download the game off the net? They are charging more for the digital than anyone else has in history with no publishing backend expenses. Sorry, $60 and $80 is just a plain rip-off for a digital download. And the extra $20 for the DD, and I get a couple 'less-than' 5 day cash shop style trinkets that will be gone in the first week of play? Seriously?!?!?!

I'm sorry, I have enough pocket cash to drop for 5 CE right now if I thought it was worth the money, but I am just not seeing anything but greed on thier end for these 3 versions. I can't believe I'm the only one who sees this.

You're definitely not the only one, I think it is seriously overpriced.

$60 for a digital download game that has no further subscription or monetary requirement is pretty damned reasonable.  Most other games are costing you this much after the first month of play, if not up front, and then only continue to siphon your wallet.

Perspective is a great thing when you have it.

And yet people end up paying more in cash shops in F2P and B2P models. You are right perspective is a great thing since gaming habits are not the same for everyone. But i think you are making a big deal out of monthly sub; believe it or not but people are not that stingy with 12 to 15 bucks a month which is just a pocket change. if it was WOW wouldn't have the sub numbers it has today. People just want a good and fun game to play. Unless someone is still living on allowance or social aid i can understand that monthly sub is a big deal.

Is it that big of a problem? Can't you just download digital?

Its 20+ gb download so i am guessing some people prefer physical copies. I am not from oceanic but i can understand OP's frustration. Same thing happened with SWTOR release.

Wait till the excuses like..... but it is B2P!!

I am hoping for lot of variety. Even GW didn't have that much variety and everyone ended up looking the same, though i used to try to look different by using different dye colors.

If this game had a sub fee I would agree that the prices were too much.

However considering there is no sub and you are getting more content than any b2p game ever released. I think the price is fair.

This!

I would argue that you will get tons more playtime and content etc from GW2 than for example Skyrim or ME3, and what did people pay for those? (not to mention SWTOR).

The claim that you are getting more content than any other game like Skyrim, ME3, SWTOR etc is based on what? the game is not released yet so atleast i am not going to start passing assumptiosn as facts on basis of few videos.

Ok i almost fell asleep watching the combat.

Only way to stop this overcharging of EU/UK would be to boycott the game untill it goes cheaper price tag (ala TotalBiscuit). But Anet knows we can't wait for this game so they are more than happy to rip us off badly. I just hope they won't get as greedy with the cash shop as they are with the game itself :(

they're going to make 90% of their money through box sales, so i think the price makes sense.

90% is a little far fetched considering that they have a cash shop too. In GW cash shop was a huge hit i am sure it would do even better in GW2.

One question, by the end of the year how much would you have ended up spending on SWTOR?

Yea let's keep bullshitting. Gogogogo!!!

Take care guys y'all be easy.

What does the sub fee have to do with anything? You can't sit here and create double standards, it's the box fee that is in question here. All this box fee shows is Ncsoft and Anet are no different than Bioware or EA. All of these companies are after the same thing, they all have the same goal.

The fact is it was illogical when anyone was attacking Bioware for this, while acting as though the case would be any different for any other upcoming game. Most CE's throughtout 2011 were upwards of or close to the 100$ mark. The case will be the same in 2012.

It doesn't matter who the company is, the AAA industry has standards and most follow them especially in the area of pricing.

The sub fee has everything to do with it. With Anet, there's no sub fee. With SWTOR, there is. In a year of playing SWTOR + Collector's you're paying a hell of a lot more than someone who just bought the Collector's for GW2 and...they own it. That's it. No more money ever. If you stop paying monthly for SWTOR, that money you spent on the Collector's edition is thrown in the trash because now you can't play your game. No such issue with Anet. How you figure that's not part of the equation is beyond me.

As for Bioware, the Collector's edition of bioware including items that were extremely powerful for the Multiplayer bit. I could point you to threads of elitist bitching on BSN where people with those items feel like they're carrying everyone else, and it's true. People with those items are at a significant advantage. CE GW2 gets you...a ring that gives you +2 to stats (in a game where your stats will be in the many hundreds, so it won't be significant for more than the beginning levels) a miniature pet that's cute but ultimately irrelevant, and beta access + some IRL goodies that once again, are irrelevant, and only great to people that are the most hardcore of the hardcore of fans. But I'm in no way at a disadvantage just because I get the regular edition. I won't...but if I was, I'd be fine (I'll be buying Deluxe)

I can stop playing GW2 anytime i want just like i can stop playing SWTOR or cancel my sub anytime i want. I have no idea how it is considered as money being thrown in trash. Also believe it or not but for majority 12 to 15 bucks a month is not such a big deal. if it was WOW wouldn't have the subscribers it has today if people were really that stingy with spending 15 bucks a month which is like a pocket change and the cheapet entertainment one can get for whole month.

There is no reason to rush, no reason at all.

You really think people powerlevel to start grinding end game dungeon? people do it mostly because they can, not to mention 'the world's first' epeen status that comes along with it.

In later games, trains became a thing of the past because of limited chase distances...

From the videos I've seen the game does have a chase distance; it actually seems very short - so no I don't think we'll see mob trains in GW2

if chase distance is very short it would be very easy to bypass mods..hence the reasoning that mounts would help bypass mounts doesn't hold much water.

Damn will i ever be able to finish content in this game..2 years and i reached Age Of discovery. i still havent finished it and have DOV and now this.... i love this game. Not one sec of dull moment.

hahahaha...!!! that was actually very funny.

This game feels like FFXI? I m on of the biggest FFXI lovers out there, and this game is not even close to it.  I m being honest here, but I can t see how they re even close at all.

Get to 18, get in a Basilisk party.

I'm a Mystic, feels a lot like Bard, with a new twist.

Game feels like an updated FFXI.

Looking for group symbol is a carbon copy of the symbol from FFXI,  the grouping feels very much as dynamic and as fun as FFXI's.   A lot of the scenery, music, and monsters look like FFXI or feel like FFXI.

Lumbertown's music sounds a lot like Kazham.

There are Orcan, that look VERY MUCH l ike FFXI orcs, they even have a jump attack like the "grunts" did, looks VERY SIMILAR to the one from FFXI.

There are bird monsters, they look almost exactly like Yagudo.

There is a lot of areas that I swear look and feel like geshelba outpost, La Thine, Davoi, etc.

Looking like and playing like are 2 completely different things. 1 I liked how long it took to level in FFXI, Tera is a breeze. 2. In FFXI back in the day you needed people for many many things by level 12 ish, Tera I haven t needed anyone for anything. 3. Rank missions, and the story that goes with it in FFXI, nothing remotely close except some short, bad voice acting cut scenes in Tera.

They re not even close as far as gameplay goes, and to me anyways, the world felt like an amazing breathing world in FFXI, Tera not so much, it s all rush rush rush.

Have you kite killed mobs as a BLM?

Its the exact same as soloing mobs as a Mystic (BAMs)

Seriously, the game play required is the same.

There are so many times when I was doing game play in TERA where I was thinking to myself "this is a lot like FFXI"

What made FFXI feel like a breathing world?   What about it?   TERA felt a lot like one to me.   What level did you get to?  What kinds of game play did you experience?

When did you play FFXI?  I played it from shortly before promathia release up until level 90 cap.   This game is its spiritual successor.

I ve played FFXI since release till now off and on. The dynamic of how Tera plays is nothing like FFXI. Tera is more of an action combat MMO, FFXI no even close to that. FFXI has so much more depth, BAMs could be like NMs I guess, but NMs we re a huge challenge to even find/spawn then just killing it. FFXI travel even on boats, you could get attacked by pirates. FFXI had huge teamwork involved to kill even 1 mob, Tera I could mow down 4-5 without even breaking a sweat. FFXI you had to get a license to ride the rentable mounts, Tera nope. FFXI you could put a second class under your main, and utilize those skills up to it s level which was half, Tera nothing like that. I really don t need to go on, if you played FFXI you would know the similarities are next to none, unless you re talking about solo kiting mobs, I guess. They re just simply so far from the same it s not even funny.

Have you stop to think, that perhaps there are tons of people who likes Tera the way it is?  just because it isen't exactly like some game you used to play and love,  does not means,  it won't appeal to many others.  hopefully you find a MMO you like.

honestly im so sick and tired of this (i call the Taliban syndrome)  if i dont like a game,  noone else will. if i dont like the game, devs will be hurt because they won't be getting my money,  everyone in the planet is a clone identical to myself,  they feel,  and like the samethings i do, act and , behave just like i do!   i wonder how long will take some people to realized.  that MMO devs don't make games to please them personally.    that the earth don't turn nor rely on them to keep going!.

I love this dude..always so hyper and angry..in his rage he seldom reads what people are actually discussing about. Leucent didn't say that Tera is bad he is just arguing that tera is nothing like FFXI on which i agree with him.

Players run faster with weapons sheathed, so the functionality (speed increase) of a mount is already present in the game.

I've never seen an argument that mounts improve gameplay beyond this, it's all cosmetic and aesthetic reasons like that people want them, they look cool, they're collectable, etc.

Mounts can, however, negatively impact gameplay.  First and foremost is the idea that DEs are designed to be as griefless as possible and scale up with people participating.  With mounts, would people be able to grief players by kiting mobs or training them?  Would they be contributing to a DE (and thus be rewarded) by kiting mobs?  Would people be dismounted when they enter combat or get hit (because I don't think anyone wants that)?  At least slowing down due to drawing your weapons is better than having your mount disappear out from under you.

Mounts also make it harder to see what is going on and require more things to be drawn, decreasing performance.

There's other potential issues as well like having people moving at different speeds, or having to grind to obtain them.

Far fetching. Why would the game be designed in a way that you can train mobs with mounts? They dont have to follow you more than a short distance untill they realize they cant catch you. They dont have to follow you out of DE's either. Ofcourse it will require some more performance like any other visual feature, I doubt the game engine is so crappy that it will be on it's knees if mounts are introduced. There's potential issues with anything in the game, why would mounts be any different and why should it be the reason not to have them?

And yeah, you run faster with weapon sheathed, that's a feature I like, however it has no impact on the fact that I like to ride mounts in my fantasy games.

Yeah that is how i felt. He is trying to hard to come up with reasons as to why having no mount is good for GW2. Increase in performance and people using mounts as advantage in DE? come on really.

The point of my post was that I can think of reasons how mounts negatively impact gameplay but that I'm still not seeing examples of how they improve gameplay, just aesthetics.

What if someone can keep mobs within a certain distance threshold so that mobs keep chasing them?  What if someone can kite mobs in a circle without leaving the area of the DE?  Maybe ArenaNet doesn't like the idea of people barrelling through the middle of DEs and having to have the mobs have to reset to spawn.

As far as decreasing game performance, GW2 is trying to pack as many people as technologically possible into its WvW zones as well as have DEs that scale up to 100 people in one place, as well as letting people play the game on not great computers.   Performance might be a real issue.

Even if you can think of workarounds or solutions so that their impact on gameplay is minimized, it's still not improving gameplay, it's just trying to fix problems that mounts created.

I don't need to come up with a reason why having no mounts is good for GW2, they aren't in the game.  I happen to agree with the current system that keeps mounts as something special by making them only part of certain events and minigames and not something that everyone has and/or needs.  If that means sacrificing the ability of people to ride anywhere in a game that has teleportation then I'm on board with that.  Sorry you're not.

Thank you for stating the pbvious but you were explainign us why having no mounts in GW2 makes sense and none of the reasons you stated make any strong points. Yes we know mounts have always been asthetics and fluff but it is also one of the most integral feature of MMOS. All the reasoning you gave regarding mounts during DE can be easily solved by disablign them during combat same goes for cramming 500 people in pvp area and siablign the mounts there too.

yeah because he is under obligation to keep paying for SWTOR, maybe he enjoyed his 3 months and need a break? you know people quit and come back all the time to MMOS. Only he knows we can only speculate.
