Mostly the Final Fantasy theme. After that I'd say graphics, but that's it. The only thing that really makes it even "OK" in my book is that it's Final Fantasy. Remove that and it's a bland game, which is why I stopped. To add insult to injury, they added a cash shop to this subscription/b2p game which made it less desirable.

They're asking for $50 and a cash shop. Anyone remember Guild Wars 1 + Factions, Night fall and Eye of the North? Everything was in the game, aka stylish armor, weapon skins and even accessories. Now all that is in the cash shop. Want glasses? See cash shop. Even if you can buy cash shop items with gold, that is a massive grind (For something that should have been in game).

Simply put:

Guild Wars 2 - $50 purchase with cash shop

Heart of thorns - $50 purchase with cash shop

F2P games   - $0 purchase with cash shop

I question how much content is in Heart of thorns, and how much was taken out to be in the cash shop.

There are still people saying the core game comes "Free". No it does not. You need to buy HoT to get it. It is factored into the $50 which is the point of the whole argument. A expansion only copy would obviously cost less and yes it would be in your best interest to get a expansion only copy if you already own the core game.

Dear Op,

Don't buy it then. There is no SUB, it's a fair price for free content there-on-after.

There is cash shop. Also, if you didn't log in for Living story season 2, you had to pay 200 gems for it or something like 800 for the whole set. How do we know they're not going to pull that again?

To the "Freerers", just because a marketing team labels something as "Free", doesn't make it so. Do you get to play Guild Wars if you pay $0? Of course not, you have to buy HoT.

So, how many people claiming it's "Free" actually own Guild Wars 2 already anyways? It's a slap in the face of the millions of people who already own the game. Yes, it makes good business sense to bundle it if you want to attract new players, but for their existing customer base, they should have offered it as less for just the expansion. Both you and I know that the cost of the core game is factored into the $50. For the $50 price point, what do they offer to the people who left Guild Wars 2?

The only true free games are the F2P where yes, we've paid $0 to play. In Guild Wars 2, you paid $50 to have a inventory bag slot locked, legalized RMT, "Convenience" locked away on purpose and most all the good looking armors and weapons in the cash shop.

Guild halls were a feature that were supposed to be released with Guild Wars 2's original release. Then they said they were releasing it later. Now it's a main feature of HoT. I'm curious if some guild halls are going to be cash shop only.

So they now offer a character slot if you activated the game before a certain date. They should have done that in the first place (See Guild Wars Factions and Nightfall which they did without cash shop items in the game). The game is still too expensive in my opinion for what they claim to have in it, plus I'm pretty sure HoT is going to be loaded with cash shop items anyways.

I agree with the OP. I already have the game, I have no need for the core game and there should be a cheaper edition with just the xpac. Also, yeah, Arenanet got greedy way back when with the Guild Wars 2 off the bat cash shop. I say boycott until it hits $10 or whatever Guild Wars 2 was selling for before this pack. B2P + Cash shop, wooo.

Not really.

Op, update your anti-virus, run a scan on full. If it finds something, remove it and change your passwords. Either that or if you're sharing an account with someone, maybe that's it. Funny Guild Wars 1 story, this guy was saying he played Guild Wars 1 and he kept finding random items in his bank vault he didn't put there. He even "Found" a rare expensive black dye and immediately sold it for big bucks (At the time). He was sharing an account with someone...

Doctors are healers, you have to wait half an hour for them, they have huge egos and they get the most profit of the trinity.
For uncharted waters online, no. Only one captain per ship. I thought it was a very detailed and deep trading MMO though grindy as you reach the upper levels.

Ascended weapons and armor are a terrible grind. Not tradeable to other players, so non-crafters have to grind to 500 which cost a large amount of gold. Either that or hope for a very rare chance of a drop of the weapon. Getting the materials is grindy, I did temples and bosses daily for a few weeks to get enough for all 4 weapon slots. Too bad I didn't foresee the great grind that would be getting to 500 crafting that would be in my way. So far I'm at 464~ and like the other guy said, dread touching crafting because it's a gold sink/farm grind.

The kicker? Critical crafting EXP + chance boosters in the cash shop, which means pretty much 2x exp when crafting. I'm guessing they removed them from the clear the end of the game reward because when I beat the game again with another character, I got every booster except the crafting one.

There's a difference between pay to win and choosing to play all day. Pay to win is added to games by developers to make money, pay to win destroys the balance in games and causes players to leave. People don't leave games in hordes just because a percent of the population plays more than they do.

People have the choice whether to play a video game 5 hours a day or only 10 minutes a day. Do you believe someone can be superior to you? If you said no, then there is no real life advantage. Everyone is equal then, sort of, unless you want to blame genetics or a bad hand. You don't have to have 8 hours of sleep, you don't have to have children or multiple jobs. You could be a bum playing runescape from the library if you so choose.

Kind of a mix and a spin on Colt firearm's motto and Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of independence - All men are created equal, but cash shops make some OP.

They have games with a fatigue/stamina system that limits playtime/what you can do and US/EU players always hate it. Either you pay more to play more with them, or everyone is limited to like 2 hours of play, maybe less. That's a strong example of Socialism.

Yes, God save the subscription. Those were the golden ages. Though I had loads of fun in Mabinogi,, Cosmic break, Wizardry online, Vindictus and Guild Wars 1. Didn't spend anything in Vindictus and played when Guild Wars 1 was alive and didn't have a cash shop (Until a year after the final expansion). In Mabinogi I had a subscription, though it was optional and I rebirthed.

I think F2P is akin to socialism but it's oddly accepted. The payers subsidize the game for people who don't want to, or refuse to pay. However, the profit potential for F2P games is higher because there's no cap on profit from the player, which is probably why companies moved from Sub to "F2P". Along with the fact that "Nobody" pays. Someone somewhere has to pay, and when they do, they pay an insane amount in some games. People spent hundreds on gambling in Cosmic Break for a chance at the cute/sexy character you could get.

5Luck, the OP's talking about F2P mmo's. Who would need to pirate those?
Personal taste. Too much cartoon.
If you like your gold, you can keep your gold.

So in Lineage II, the world's grindiest game (Or it used to before GoD update), if I could buy a buff that gave me +25% exp that wouldn't be PAYing to win? Keep in mind that most of your power in Lineage II is from your level. Also keep in mind that in Chronicle II people were getting like 1-3% exp per hour near max level.

Do any of you guys actually PvP? Level is a major factor in winning, unless everyone has already reached the level cap.

Is Eldevin a game where it takes a year to get to the level cap? I ask that because quite a few are praising it as a UO style game, and in UO (prior to AoS) you could have a very effective PVP character inside of a could of days. The difference between a guy with 80s across his main skills and the 7xGM (7 skills at 100) was minimal outside of the GM title and bragging rights. It definitely didn't determine the outcome of battle.

People are saying 2-3 months for the average player to reach the level cap of 45, or is it 50 now? Either way, I can't attest to that, but there are exp potions that you can buy for cash, as well as bag space. If you subscribe you get +25% exp, craft/gather exp, gold and valor. "Convenience items" are also in the cash shop, whatever those may be. Oh yeah and if you subscribe you also get rested exp when logged out.

Never played UO, but level matters due to attribute/talent points. Either way, I will be subscribing for the +exp powers then off to the PvP areas I go for some fun.

I'll play it, but I may skip if I need to install the java nasty gateway. It would be nice if there was a downloadable client. The 1st day of early access is 5 hours from being over and I see 39 people paid at minimum $250 to play early, and there's all of 2 people online. I'm curious as to whether anyone paid $500 or $1000 to play 3 days early.

Either way, kind of sad and repulsive how they're taking these people for their money. Is this a foreshadowing of future cash shop items?

So in Lineage II, the world's grindiest game (Or it used to before GoD update), if I could buy a buff that gave me +25% exp that wouldn't be PAYing to win? Can you murder people in this game?

Also, since this is a game for women, I must be a manist. This game portrays men in an unrealistic fashion. This is sexist.

Sounds fun, do you have anymore details? Was it like Medieval, was it like Asian styled sprites, cartoony or more realistic?

PvE side, you can do dungeons until you get max equips aka Exotic level goods. They added ascended weapons, though it's terribly grindy and costly in gold to get those. You can also do dailies to work towards ascended jewelry or do fractals to get them. Aside from that it's WvW or PvP along with the content they release every 2 weeks.

There was no gear treadmill until they recently added ascended weapons, but the weapons are only slightly more powerful than the old best, the exotic grade equipment. I don't know if they are going to continue with a gear treadmill because people complained and it's honestly a real chore to grind the materials on top of doing the painful crafting grind/goldsink. There was ascended armor in the works too.

Honestly the thing that bugged me most about ascended equipment was that if you use a gun and a sword, that's two crafting jobs you need to get to 500. On top of that, they aren't tradeable to my knowledge.
