Amazing isnt it. They put up a link to a livestream which hasn't even happened yet, and we alreay have 3 posts in the thread from 3 people who dont even play this game, cutting it down. Can they be any more obvious haters?

I played SWTOR. My subscription ended and I have no desire to re-subscribe. I'm not hating on it just to hate it. I'm hating on it because of their blatant bullshit.

I was part of their pre-release community since Oct. 08. I kept on hearing, "Yes. This is going to be a true MMO."

There is nothing grand about this game. Other than story, which really ended up just being long-winded explanations on why we have to click on supply crates or collect bear claws, this game offers nothing grand.

The maps are tiny and funneled, PvP is nothing more than 3 redundant Warzones with a laggy Ilum, Space feels like they just tacked on some old Starship game that got put under the table in the late 90s etc.

From the embarrassing typecasting to the enter co'op feel, I've played much of this game and am completely capable of voicing why I don't like SWTOR.

Pay extra to be on a server where everyone solos and ignores one another?
Skyrim & ME3 are there. Knock yerself out for about 50 bucks.

Do you feel that an MMO can have one massive world community? If so, that would be an amazing feat, as it's hard to accomplish such a task in real life. However, in the real world, when people are allowed to break into smaller groups, communites and bonds between people form.
No one is asking to solo and ignore everyone else, and I hope that you were being intentionally obtuse and you don't truly believe that peace and tolerance can be enforced in a community of 2k-5k people in a virtual world - one where anonymity and lack of consequence prevail - when it is near impossible to get 300 people in the real world to play nice together.

My point is; typically the people who complain about what someone else is doing are likely to identify themselves as "soloers".

So let's look at the solo conundrum. I'd say they're as destructive a force in MMORPGs as the out right obnoxious in chat. They're two sides of the same coin.

That coin is profitable tho' so why complain?

Adapt or move on;
I can say back when MMOs had more open environments and consequences the community was a lot nicer. People say that's because it was just mature nerds playing then; I don't think the demographic has truly changed really. Humans like to be put to task, and to be annoying.

Just in Shadowbane annoying got your complete city wiped out. (How about that Bloodaxe Clan?)

Modern MMOs cater to the common lowest denominator. Soloers, rude boys, and whiners. They're willing to pay while they do these things. So there isn't really much to do.

I guess bribing them as suggested by the OP is a good start.

Although I'd suggest just removing yourself from the genre.

RP Servers are made so that like-minded players can come together and play. There are rulesets that are in place when joining a RP Server. However, few follow them and none enforce them. I doubt that a few extra bucks per month would merit the same social bacteria that plague most of the other servers.

for the elimination of the terms wtf, bro, troll, tryhard, fail, epic, noob, fanboi, scrub and all forms of racist insanity from our vocabulary as humans I would pay anywhere from $500-1000 dollars.

Sayings like "bro", "fail", and "u mad?" annoy me to no end. It makes me want to completely pummel every High Schooler with the following hair cut:

It takes a lot to get me angry. However, when I see this haircut, I turn into a raging bull. I have no idea why. Perhaps it's because most kids that have it also have some type of cocky aura.

"A bunch of players beating up on one boss is not heroic."

This game went wrong with just about everything. If they wanted a more "heroic" boss experience, they should've made it where a group had to infiltrate, attack, and/or defend from an army of NPCs, e.g., 100-200 Sand People charging in from the T. Fort etc. It's too bad that this extremely small group-game is not capable of large-scale innovation.

SWTOR really is the small story version of WoW. With the constant feedback, ideas/concerns, and worry about lack of social environment from their community since 2008, I cannot believe the current state of the game.

I would pay extra for an increased difficulty server with more policing, so I can actually have some kind of challenge while I play a game. I would not just pay for extra 'fool removal'.

I can always choose to ignore spammy idiots and people with stupid names, it can be an easy way to spot the fools.

I agree. However, it's hard to do that on a RP-PvP Server when the person attacking you is named, "JillKews". I saw that name several times on the server I play on. I still can't believe it has not been changed yet.

No, I am tired of these MMO publishers who think that because they decide to do something, no matter what it is, no matter how small it is, they feel they can add some cost to the game.

What? $15.00 isn't enough? It was in the past?

What give's these publishers the ability to ask for a fee?

Quality. Good customer  service and on going development to fix, polish and add continuous contnet to keep the game relevent.

The evolution of this has been on the part of these publishers to keep subtracting more and more value from these games while not compensating the players who are expected to pick up the tab.

These new a-la-cart revenue models are a slap in the face.

It's not the subscription based revenue model that is failing, it's the publishers who feel that they can charge fifteen bucks a month to do nothing more than keep servers plugged in and that anything after that is chargeable.

No! If they want to charge a monthly fee, then they need to provide a service that warrents that fee. And keeping environments specific to certain playstyles that has no impact on the development of the game itself should certainly be included. It always has been in the past.

I agree to an extent. I've always been against the ability to earn any item or benefit from outside of game via Micro-Transaction, Pre-Order, Collector's Edition, Convention Exclusive, Cross-Promotion, etc. I can't stand it.

However, if a developer did offer a truly "policed" and more staffed server, I'd be willing to go for it. When I say more staffed, I'm talking way beyond the ordinary server. I'm talking about a 24-7 moderator for each and every populated zone / chat. This would provide instant access to remove instant gold selling ads, bad names, racial comments, answeringtickets within 5-10 min, enforce RP server rules, etc.

Even an extra 5-10 bucks from subscribers would be able to support a 12-13 per hour support staff.

Hi all!

I've experienced almost every major MMO since 2003. Throughout the progression of these MMOs, I've certainly noticed the increase of unpleasant communities.

I'm not much of a Role-Player. However, I used to always role on a RP / RP-PvP Server simply because the community seemed less obnoxious. I would, however, follow the naming rules of the server and would respond to any "private rp-message" with a quick "role-playish" reply.

The poblem now is that the communites have gotten so bad that even the RP Servers are plagued with the ignorant. This goes way beyond the "ChuckNorris", "SkillCosby", "Lollerskates", and "Gankenstein" character names.

I'm at the point now where I'd be willing to spend over $15.00 per month on a more "policed" and fruitful community server.

This is just me, though. How would you feel if a new game offered the following poll?

It's cool that you guys got to experience the GDC. I just wish they had better games. I'm just not interested in the listed titles at all.

The problem is simple: SWTOR is not a MMORPG. It's a single-player game with an Auction House hub. Connecting to a Warzone feels nothing more than the Call of Duty match-make system.

Other than story, which got extremely boring for me, there is literally not one grand thing about this game.

I'm glad they added some type of system that will label lowbie gankers.

They should take it a step further: If your name appears red, you are not safe in the cities etc.

My two favorite MMOs:

Star Wars Galaxies:

When the game first released, my friend had spent weeks grinding out Rebel faction points for Rebel Helmet. After all that hard work and being the first to earn it, the helmet ended up looking like a pointy sex toy.

EverQuest II:

I had a Ranger on the Nagafen PvP Server. I found a full "bot" group leveling near the top of this extremely deep mining shaft. I snuck up and punted the "tank" off the top of the shaft. He fell to his doom.

His group had him on auto follow... :)

My first "linear" Theme Park MMO was EverQuest 2. I had a lot of fun. However, things started to get old and feel redundant. This made me explore new games, e.g., World of Warcaft, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Warhammer, Darkfall, Mortal Online, Aion, Star Trek Online, and SWTOR.

I didn't last past the free month / pre-order headstart. The game was either too hardcore to the point where it was boring (Darkfall / Mortal) or too simple and "guided" to the point where it was beyond boring (SWTOR, WoW, AoC, WAR, STO, Aion, etc). I probably would've liked Darkfall / Mortal a bit more had it not been for the first-person point of view. It just felt so clunky and ameture.

I yeard for a Mild Theme Park with loads of Sandbox features, e.g., player cities, player economy, deep crafting, world pvp (battlegrounds have ruined everything) etc. As far as I know, ArcheAge seems to be the game for me. But that's 1-2 years off.

If you want to game in the next few weeks, I'd look into Tera Online. It may be a Theme Park, but it's unique combat and World PvP is enough to retain my interest.

Todays society does not want challenge. They want to be hand fed with a silver spoon.  There should be permadeath on mmos. Id like that.

I never understood permadeath fans.

What is the point? Why would anyone want to spend months and months developing their character only to have it taken away because of connection loss etc.

Of course it's going to look "healthy". The game is less than 90 days old.

I've already played through my mental retention. Other than playing with friends, there is no reason for me to subscribe. I've never been so bored playing a video game.

The game seemed great at first. However, after about level 30, the quests started to become far more annoying - having to sit through an entire cut-scene just to end up doing redundant crap, e.g., click on crates, kill enemies for datapads, etc. I know I can "space bar" through it, but it still doesn't stop the fact that it's beyond linear and boring.

Tera has brought a lot of "MMO" back for me. I've been playing SWTOR; I've forgotten about gigantic cities and large worlds. Playing the Tera beta has really revived my thrill factor.

A 15% increase? That's good.

However, it would take at least a 400% increase for most developers to realize that most direct console to pc ports suck.

This game too me by surprise. I logged in thinking it's just going to be another WoWsia. I had a great time playing beta. I haven't enjoyed a MMO in a long time.

I wish I was there. I'd ask them questions that will cause them to dance around like a bunch of politicians.

The main problem with this game is just the fact that it's dumbed down to the point where it's boring. Battlegrounds? Quest-only progression? Typecasted Characters?

I'm not trolling on the game. I'm just shocked at their complete misuse of resources.

The game looks pretty. However, most new games do.

I'm not going to bother looking deep into this until they blatantly tell us the following:

#1. Will PvP be nothing more than another version of "Battlegrounds" or Instanced PvP?

#2. How big are the worlds? Are they Vanguard-like, where one can actually explore, or will they be SWTOR-like, where the "illusion" of a large world is nothing more than a painted backdrop with constant "exhaustion zones" and invisibile walls.

40 billion last year? $40,000,000,000

, future of WoW, etc.

$40,000,000,000, yes. However, that is revenue. What did we learn in the school of common sense? Profit < Revenue. Or, to read it differently, Revenue > Profit.

Blizzard made $40,000,000,000 in revenue, NOT profit.

Layoffs happen. They suck. C'est la vie.

I hear you and understand the difference. However, the ultimate point is that they didn't have to do what they did. Not even close.
