WoW is old and now terrible.

Diablo 3 was terrible.

StarCraft II was typical

I seriously don't get it. Blizzard is not the same. New people... new games... new hate.

Perhaps they can limit the amount of each character per instance, e.g., if 20 is the max per instance, there can only be 1-2 Iron Mans per instance....until it's not possible.

I'm sorry, but this game completely destroys Diablo III in every aspect.

It is upsetting that one cannot achieve a new look via gear, e.g., capes, cloaks, weapons, etc. However, it's ultimately no different than every Barbarian wearing the same Immortal King set or latest tier armor. Everyone, other than scrap noobs, look alike in Diablo 3, too.

As for 3-4 punching mobs, it ultimately depends on how you play. Single-Target attacking in the lower levels is certainly redundant. However, almost every class gets some type of lunging AoE early in the game. For instance, as Spider-Man, I would gather loads and loads of mobs together (as many that could fit on the screen). I would circle around them as if I was a herding dog...only then to swing through em' with my flying AoE. XP was flying and gear was dropping.

I played before Open Beta. When I played, most people were given most of the costumes. Because of this, I rarely ran into a similar costumed player.

What ultimately makes me play is the fact that guilds and PvP will be in at launch - unlike Diablo III and Path of Exile.

PvP is my personal driving hammer as to whether or not I play a game.

Diablo 3 was a terrible game and it should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as PoE or MH. That game and company is a complete waste of time anymore.

I installed ad-block because of them. The images are just too... kiddie.

No. Never. I don't care how good the game is...I will never pay to play per hour. In fact, I can't believe that some of you people actually did this.

Many people here play MMOs 5 hours per day. At $2 per hour, that is $10 per day - $300 per month. That's a car payment.

I know people are free to spend their money however they want. But I have the right to think of them as IDIOTS.

OP all it is point to the fact they want to sell the game and will tell you anything you want to hear to get good word of mouth going. Smed lies alot. Hell just a few months ago he said there was permadeath in  EQnext and the same day the devs themselves said it was untrue.

This is a SOE project made with a very small budget (by SOE standards) keep your expectations low and you maybe happy. Expect the earth and the moon and your gonna be disappointed.

Incorrect. Someone asked Smedley how he would feel about permadeath in EQ Next and he said "we like permadeath for EQN." Dave Georgesson responded to it and pointed out that John Smedley was simply explaining that a few people at SOE liked the idea, and clarified that he wasn't discussing anything actually planned for the game.

I think what Smed was actually doing was tapping on the glass to see who was paying attention, and how broadly, and in what regard, the information would spread.  It was a hype test.

Possible. Likely, in fact. It worked on me, I wrote a piece about it.

Where?

Everquest has always had open world pvp, the only reason they added Battlegrounds is so that people on PVE servers could do more than just /duel (they haven't always had pvp, but when pvp was implemented it was open world)

That is true. However, once Battlegrounds were added as well as Battleground rewards, this ultimately revamped the PvP server and turned it from a World PvP game to a Battleground grind. It wasn't because people loved BGs, it was because it was MUCH faster to earn PvP points for gear.

I've emailed Smed several times over the past 5-6 years. Every now and then I will get a response.

Anyways, I emailed him today about EverQuest "Next" and my hopes for meaningful World PvP - World PvP that isn't your typical "gank on sight and that's it" type PvP, but a deep World PvP System that has some actual purpose.

He responded:

Every game has the same old instanced PvP.

My entire guild literally quit SWTOR after the 2nd week due to the redundant Warzones and Battlegrounds. We're done chasing the carrot on the stick via pvp item rewards. It's not fun anymore.

World PvP with meaning is the only way (on PvP Servers).

you'll be happy man.

I know that this is extremely vague. However, his reply does point to the fact that they are working on a much deeper than usual form of World PvP.

I don't know. I've played just about every major MMO out there. The only two I really enjoyed and stuck with both happened to be SOE games: SWG / EQ2.

Diablo 3

eqnext / archeage - theme park cat shit will finally be buried in the sandbox.

I was just thinking (and that can be dangerous) about separation of characters and players in MMOs.

Examples:
Riddles learned from reading books or talking with others.
Pre-knowledge of places to go from buying or looking at maps.
Spells taught or found.
Crafting skills learned or discovered.
Fighting skills learned by reading or taught then practicing.

In other words, in order for a character to do something or have dialogue show up, the character would have to have the knowledge, not the player.

I know not many want their own knowledge or skills to be "disabled" in a game, but for those who would like a separation between themselves and their characters, would you enjoy that kind of experience?

Sure, the internet searches would help a little bit, but maybe this kind of implementation would curb that a little?

What do you think?

I'd welcome it just to get rid of the dang kiddies.

No way. All of these Open Betas have saved me so much money.

ArcheAge isn't a Sandbox game. It's Themepark with Sandbox elements. The game play will still be level to level. It'll be better because of the Sandbox elements, but still the same basic concept. Like WoW had fishing, ArcheAge has planting trees.

I don't think gamers as a whole quite realize this yet, but what they are tired of, that thing that they feel is old and tired and boring, it's the levelling content to content structure of Themepark games. But most don't realize it yet, because they've never experienced anything else. Yet they sense that there could be, and should be, "something more" in these "worlds" that they sense are so lacking in "something".

People who claim to be looking for a sanbox are really looking for a Casual Theme Park game...  with loads and loads of sandbox content, e.g., player cities, player economy, gigantic worlds that one can get lost in, a quest system that doesn't involve a glow trail or "x" on the map, etc. World PvP.

lol. You are out of your mind if you think STO should be an example of success. There are probably more people playing Kid Icarus for the NES than STO.

STO is #60 on xfire. It is ahead of both Rift and Tera, and also ahead of Age of Wushu, which was just released. It just recently added an expansion.

So it is not the roaring success like WOW or GW2, but certainly not a bad place to be, for an online game.

#60 on xfire? So what. What's your ICQ user name?

#10 game on xfire right now is Diablo 3 (with 5000 people playing). #60 would mean what? 10 people + 1 developer?

If anyone has to learn anything from Neverwinter, it's not to make such a redundant and boring game.

The MMO genere is not bringing in many new people. Most people who continue to play MMOs have already experienced their "virgin" moment. We've all been there and done that so many times. Neverwinter, while it can probably be a fun game for a MMO noob, offers nothing new to a veteran.

Bored after 20 min. Go here... Go there... Touch this... Touch that...       It would be so bad if my hand wasn't held the entire time. I like the combat, but dang! Just let me be me!

Heard all the exact same arguments for STO and oh wait. It's three years later and they just finished celebrating their 3yr anniversary! could it be? that their formula actually works?

Moreover, running a low-pop MMO isn't as expensive as most think. Alyson Reeves was sued for hosting a WoW emulator. Reeves' personal servers were able to host around 40,000 users at any given time. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/29936/Blizzard_Wins_88M_Judgment_Against_WoW_Private_Server_Owner.php

F2P is an excuse.

"This game sucks... it's just like all the others... but hey! It's FTP".

The females are almost always fine. They do,  however, need to "man up" the male characters. They is just something that is sassy about a "weathered warrior" with perfectly plucked eyebows, beiber generation hair cut, and flawless complexion.
The problem isn't the pay model with these games. The problem is the fact that gameplay and originality isn't worth neither Pay Per Month nor Cash Shop.
