I don't mind Theme Park elements. In fact, there are a few that I welcome.

I personally find 100% pure Sandbox games to be boring.

I personally find 100% pure Theme Park games to be boring.

I like it when World PvP has some form of meaning. In a game like Tera, where everyone is of the same faction, there really is no "lorish" reason to kill another player. However, in a faction based game such as EverQuest II, there is a good reason for a Dark Elf Player to attack a High Elf Player in the open world.

I want the game to have a theme and setting. However, I don't want to be locked down and forced to follow a long quest-line about how I'm a special little snowflake.

I want a living and breathing virtual world with loads of content. If I want to just shift the engine in neutral and just chill out in my player-made house or guild city, then I should be able to.

The only "Sandboxy" thing that is important to me is Deep Crafting, World Size, World PvP, and Player Economy (no Auction House crap).

It's been done in the past. Many times. Many ways.

DAoC did it best.

Its funny that people keep referring to DAoC as the best PVP, yet all I remember was being killed in two seconds constantly by stealth classes....To me it wasn't fun at all.

I don't know why people say DAoC was the best. It was ultimately just a bigger PvP Instance.

In my opinion, EverQuest II had the right idea with World PvP. Enemies could literally sneak into the opposing cities to snag a few unwary adventurers.

If you want only Wushu players to respond, then ask this in MMORPG.com's Wusho Forum.

Not trying to be mean. Just saying.

I agree with the OP.

I started off gaming via King's Quest, Police Quest, and Quest for Glory PC series. Tutorial? lol. Never had 'em. Moreover, these games had "type commands" - a much more difficult mechanic than today's point and click. I was able to beat these games as a 5th grader.

Developers think we're idiots. Take a look at Zelda. When Zelda released for the NES, it had no tutorial at all. I remember collecting my firsrt blue coin. I saw that I had 5 more green coins just for picking it up. If you pick up a blue coin in a modern Zelda, you can expect to see a screen pop-up like this:

"Congrats! You have found your first blue coin! A blue coin is worth 5 green coins! With coins, you can purchase items from the store. In order to find a store, push "Start" on your controller and look at the map. If you have enough coins to buy an item, then click on the item you want to buy. If you don't have enough coins, then you will need to get more coins. In order to get more coins, you must either defeat enemies or find them. You can find them by burning bushes, moving rocks, selling goods, or gambling. A green coin is worth 1 coin. A blue coin is worth 5 coins. I red coin is worth 20 coins. A purple coin is worth 50 coins. A diamond coin is worth 100 coins. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.  blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah."

Wow! Finding something in a Zelda game is like having to click through an entire book.

If there must be a tutorial, there should be an optional link to a tutorial section of the game's website. This in-game "hands-on" crap is just stupid.

There is optional world pvp. It's called a PvE Server.

In the past, most PvP was World PvP. However, in order to participate, you have to create a character on the PvP Server. For players who didn't want to PvP, they were able to play on PvE Servers.

Everything was working fine until PvE Players got together and decided to moan for consensual PvP (Arenas, Battlegrounds). As a PvP Player, I didn't mind, so long as this feature was only on the PvE Server. Too bad that that didn't happen...

The Two Problems that killed PvP:

  1. The developers started to reward players for participating in Battlegrounds / Warzones / Arenas.
  2. The developers stuck Instanced Battlegrounds (with rewards) on PvP Servers.

Instanced PvP is nothing more than LAZY DEVELOPMENT. Instead of taking the time to make a living / breathing world with proper sanctions via World PvP, the developers find it cheaper and much faster to just make small zones with Battlefield 1942 contriol point mechanics. These get so redundant and boring that it's not even funny.

1. What are the top one or two MMO games you have spent the most hours playing in the last 3 months?

Path of Exile

2. Which MMO got you hooked on MMO games?

Star Wars Galaxies

3. If you could wave a magic wand and "fix" all the problems in any one MMO (past or present), which MMO game would you fix ("fix" includes upgrade graphics and animations)?

Star Wars Galaxies

4. How much money have you spent on MMO games in the last 6 months, including game client, time cards/subscriptions, gem cards, real money auctions, third-party gold or leveling services, etc)?

$50

5. If you could turn any setting from a book or movie into a modern MMO, designed to your specifications, which book or movie would you adapt (even if it has already been done)?

Masters of the Universe

E-Sport for this game is fine, though. PS2 is not a MMO.

If they offered E-Sport for EverQuest Next, I'd be angry.

Plantside 2 sucked, IMO.

I can run the game on high settings. However, it's not ideal for Call of Duty-type speed and accuracy.

I can get Planetside 2 to perform better on low settings. However, it looks like total ass and still doesn't compare to the performance of something like Black Ops 2.

I know the maps are much bigger, but man...    boring / clunky game. Not fun.

I don't know, but Path of Exile has the best FTP model I've ever seen.

I'm a pretty harsh game critic.

PoE is a great game. Solid. Extremely unique in terms of character builds. They literally made it so that two players cannot be the same.

I mean...  look at this thing: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree

I've sat for long periods of time just trying to come up with interesting builds. I haven't even scratched the surface.

lol 10/10

For the longest time Blizzard said "It'll launch when it's ready."

Then with Diablo 3: "We've cut PVP to make our launch date."

There is another game with far more innovation, PVP that's interesting and exciting, and doesn't charge 60 dollars and attempt to make more with a ruined economy.  Path of Exile.

With Diablo 3 they took the fun end game of hunting items and removed it, putting their cash grab auctions in its place.  They thought opening ones wallet would be better than opening a chest in a dungeon.  Shameful, though I can't believe it'd be just one person who caused this massive departure from good design.  It was probably a group effort that caused the game to pale in comparison to not only the 10 year earlier Diablo 2, but also to fall short of today's less greedy offerings.

You dont need to use the RMHA if you dont want to, all items on the RMAH are items found by players playing the game - you can ignore the RMAH and play the game and hunt the items till the cows come home.  I say again RMAH is OPTIONAL, all items on RMAH are found by players and posted by players, nothing on the RMAH cannot be found in game by playing the game. OPTIONAL! NOT MADATORY, NOT P2P!1!1!! hate the game for it gameplay or story or cus they used colours other brown, but hating the game for the RMAH is laughable and just goes to show most don't even understand what it is. Shameful to be part of this gaming generation sometimes, take me back to the 8bit days any time.

Completely DISAGREE.

Items on the RMAH are found by players. Yes. But when you have countless people running 24-7 bots, the RMAH becomes completely packed. The prices drive down to nothing.

So let's take Player A who spends 700 hours earning the best gear. He enters into the PvP Arena and get's 1-shot by 30 hour Player B (who got a $50 bnet gift card for Christmas).

RMAH isn't needed for some story fanboy. But most players who play play to be competitive. RMAH doesn't belong in a competitive game.

Diablo 3 is simply bad and the publicity is proof.

Path of Exile completely surprised me. The depth and complexity of that game is superb. There are literally countless character builds, optional full-loot PvP, and a more "adult" style graphical theme.

The game launches this Wed. Check it out! I'm playing it now via beta.

If anyone is interested in playing the game via voice, hop on our Path of Exile Mumble Server.

fish.mumbleboxes.com

port: 36101

Diablo 1-2 was ahead of its time. Diablo 3 is so behind its time that it's not even funny.

Diablo 3 is nothing more than a cash-grab via Real Money Auction House.

I play the game to be competitive. Since PvP was said to be soon after launch, my goal was to obtain the best gear before such an addition and to be ready.

I spent hours and hours of grinding, trading, and obtaining gear. However, the economy had gotten so bad due to the constant botters that someone with basic pocket-change could just buy the equivolent of my hard-earned gear via RMAH.

It was a major turn-off.

WoW = NGE, AoC, WAR, Aion, Tera, STO, SWTOR, etc....

When non-innovative games fail, people are happy because they think that it will be the final wake-up call for future developers. The problem is that it's rarely the case.

SWTOR is probably the biggest flop of all time. Finally! The Theme Park trend is over! Woohoo! <60 days later> The Elder Scrolls Online is announced...

People don't like to see good games fail. People like to see bad games fail.

Not the case - little whiney gamers THINK they know what is good for the industry not what the industry wants or needs.

As was stated by others and myself in this thread - people who want to see games and game companies fail are very egotistical, whiney nerds who don't really understand games and the market. They think they unsderstand it all and they dont.

Well it's clear that the developers don't understand it. If they did, we wouldn't have these mass amount of flops.

Players are winey because they are sick of the same old stuff. They know the industry much more than you think. I mean...who would know more than the consumer?

I got this from another post a long time ago. But I completely agree with it.

If I got to choose a setting, it would be He-Man (Masters of the Universe).

Sandpark (but more sandbox). A SWG with a hint of EQ2 and Path of Exile (Deep Passive Tree).

Deep Character Creation: You must create your own unique character, race, and profile.

We have Swords, Shields, Magic, Guns, Tanks, Flying Ships, Creature Mounts, Factions, Combat, and more... It's pure virtual bliss.

Our players won't be limited by mere Sword & Board / Duck & Shoot combat skills. With MoTU's history of unique characters and how each one has a unique combat attribute, we have free customizable reign.

It's time to create the greatest MMORPG in the world: Masters of the Universe Online.

My friends and I played the beta. To be perfectly honest, we didn't even get out of the starter city before uninstalling.

The graphics look good. However, the controls, the final fantasy-like asian story, and the linear mindset hit hard during the first 2 min of gameplay. It looked and felt like a console game.

That's exactly what I said.

I'm going to take this example as a warning and avoid this game. It's probably just going to get worse.
