Looks like the Predator mated with a praying mantis.
People aren't going to complain about a great restaurant.
I don't mind it if the person plays legit. What I don't like is when the portal is open to massive gold framing etc...  which mostly comes from china / korea etc.

Just about every Theme Park out there has Hub to Hub leveling. Once you complete the Hub, there is no need to revisit that location. By the time you reach End-Game, most of the world is outleveled and rendered moot.

Try the Red Light MMO. It's very hub-to-hub bouncing, yet the endgame is about as sandboxy as it gets.

With the amount of time and money it takes to develope a mmorpg, you would think the developers would do a little research.

HISTORY SPEAKS

 

#1. EverQuest 1 was a success. It made money and had long-term sustain.

#2. Star Wars Galaxies was a success. It made money and had long-term sustain.

#3. World of Warcraft came to town and set a new precedent. It buried every other MMO in terms of profit AND had long-term sustain.

#4. SOE yearns to generate WoW-like profit. Thus, they revamp Star Wars Galaxies into a linear "WoW" style game (NGE). It backfired... big time. Zero Sustain.

THE SERIES OF WOW-CLONES BEGIN

#5. Vanguard releases. It's ultimately an open area Theme Park... another big / broken version of WoW. Zero Sustain. It's a mess.

#6. Age of Conan releases. It's ultimately a tiny version of WoW. Hardware issues for many. Lack of content. Zero Sustain. It's a mess.

#7. Warhammer Online releases. It's ultimately the same WoW-steak... but with different seasoning. Been there, done that. Zero Sustain.

#8. WoW is getting pretty old now. Many players aren't necessarily looking for a new clone, but a totally different experience.

#9. The MMO surge is over. WoW started as a fad, e.g., nerds played it, jocks played it, business people played it, losers played it, women played it, rich people played it, ghetto people played it. New people aren't buying MMOs anymore. Most people who purchase them are veterans. They are getting older and yearn for a bit more depth. WoW is starting to get really old.

#10. Aion, Star Trek Online, Champions Online, DC Universe, Countless no-name clones, EQ2 revamps their PvP into Battleground form, RIFT, etc.

#11. SWTOR finally launches. It quickly becomes the most talked about and most hated game of all time. It's the birth of a new genre: Single Playing Online RPGs. No Sustain.

#12. More WoW-clones launch... including Tera and Guild Wars 2.

#13. The Secret World launches. While it's a bit different than WoW, it has no appeal and is not what MMO gamers have been looking for.

 

It's not hard to look at the trend. PEOPLE DON'T WANT ANOTHER WOW! People want depth, player-driven content, content, and sustain. However, the developers do nothing but look at WoW and their damn numbers.

You are comparing a video game to real world. But sure... I'll play along.

 

I used to live in Ohio. However, my family moved to Michigan. I left Ohio to be with my family. Not because I out-leveled Ohio. I could go back to Ohio and always find something to do, e.g., work, play. In a MMO, I can't do anything in the past areas. Moreover, the past areas take up almost the entire virtual world.

Yet, in case you wouldnt be able to find work, would you claim that you suffer from all the schools you already have no use for in Ohio?

Questing and progression need some serious change.

I purchased SWG and most expansions. At least you can still play your game.

You don't have to be a "Power Grinder" to reach End-Game these days. In fact, most players can read all the quests, absorb the lore, and still max out their characters before the free month is over.

Modern MMORPG End-Game

  • Raiding: 2-5 Instanced Dungeons
  • PvP: 3-5 Instanced Zones with Objectives, e.g., Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Control the Point
End-Game is beyond redundant and boring. There is nothing "massively multiplayer" about a few repetitive 8v8 PvP Instances. There is nothing grand about repeating the same raid over and over again.
 
 
So why is End-Game so limited to these redundant instances? I think that a big part of it is the fact that almost all of the world is polluted with out-leveled Quest Hub material. In almost every modern Theme Park game, there is literally no use to adventure or explore previous areas/zones. This leaves "End-Game" with only a fraction of the world to exhaust within weeks.
 
 
End-Game should involve the entire world.
 
The Diablo 3 team is terrible.

Some unique features. Sure. But I honestly think this is going to be another example of a game that fails due to lack of player-driven content.

You can have the best gameplay in the world. But when there isn't anything to do in the end other than PvP the same instanced zones over and over or Raid the same 5 instances over and over...    it's going to flop.

One of the biggest complaints of SWG when it was around...was that it never felt Star Warsy.  I remember beta 3 and others and I were just saying, "this is basically EQ in space."

 

No way. I felt like I was part of Star Wars in SWG. In SWTOR, I felt like I was in middle school. I honestly found SWTOR to be extremely cheesy, too - with all their stupid cliche` quotes and typecasting, e.g., "I have a bad feeling about this", every Smuggler must have a Wookie companion and a fast/ugly ship, etc. It's so typecasted for kids that it was embarrassing to play.

I asked my dad, who happens to be a major executive within one of the most prominent steel industries in the US, about what he would do if he had won the Mega Million drawing.

He told me...  quit his job, purchase the SWG license, and remake the classic game with modern graphics.

Voice acting, IMO, is a waste of delopment time and money. Moreiver, it locks the quest into place. For instance, if a dev wanted to add to it or change it later, he would have to start a whole new acting scenerio.

Also, it makes the game disk req so much more.

 

 

Questing in general needs to be revamped. Atm, it's boring. People just speed right through it, hit "M" for map, follow the arrow, pick up the item or kill goblin, return the item, and omve on to next quest. All of it is boring

2: In Planetside, my friends outfit was doing mock gen drops/holds. I was on the opposite faction and CR5. I told my friend that I was on the way to the base they were practicing at. They were about to leave so I had my friend ask them to do another run because he felt they needed more training.

They did this and I showed up in my cloaker, set my Orbital strike right above their galaxy. When they all loaded in I had already pressed the button and it was counting down. As it was going off I ran up to my friends computer and listened to all the members in TS screaming and yelling BAIL BAIL OH GOD BAIL as all but one of them blew up in a glorious fireball.

I remember seeing that screenshot so many years ago on the forums.
