BBC - World of Warcraft subscribers are leaving, Activision warns
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 5/10/13 6:52:03 AM
WoW players are getting older. It's like a toddler growing up and upgrading from Fisher Price to GI Joes. Players get older and yearn for more depth and complexity. WoW was most the first MMO for most people. New players aren't as common anymore. |

[Column] General: The EA-Disney Deal
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/09/13 7:02:51 AM
After experiencing SWTOR, it's simply a fact that EA/BioWare have zero grasp on what is needed to create a good MMORPG. EA's Warhammer & SWTOR are both redundant and boring "MMOs".
We most likely won't be playing a new Star Wars MMO for a good 10 years. |

What's with the "I hope this game fails" crowd?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/08/13 11:29:13 AM
"I hope this game fails" is always geared toward Theme Park games. If another Theme Park flops, it brings the genre closer to Sandbox... or at least something with more depth and complexity.

MMORPG's released in 1997 and 2003 far more advanced than anything afterwards?

I agree. Good post. The social realm of Star Wars Galaxies is what hooked me. I play as a combat player. However, walking through town and seeing real players and all the hustle 'n bustle created a much more realistic world as opposed to just a bunch of NPCs standing around and giving out the same quests. |

Another reason to show Blizzard's lack-luster team. Another reason to show them how the RMAH will always backfire. I never used the RMAH. I grinded the hell out of that game to get my gear. However, Timmy plopped down $200 bucks and was hitting as hard as me... in 1/100 the time. I'm glad the RMAH isn't working out for them. |

EA Conference call: SWTOR with just under 500k subs, 1.7 million free to play

I'm happy for EA. I'm glad they showed other MMO developers how not to develop their games.

People have different definitions of "Sandbox". A lot of people think of extremely hardcore and unforgiving games like Mortal Online, Darkfall, and Eve as "Sandbox".
I consider myself a Sandbox fan. However, I don't want some blank of empty world. I want loads of content and loads of player-driven social features, e.g., player cities, open worlds, world pvp, world housing, cantinas / taverns with incentives to hangout, gambling games, dancing, player shops, extremely deep crafting etc.... I want it all... These days, gaming is so one-sided. If it's 100% Theme Park, it's boring. If it's 100% Sandbox, it's boring. |

I honestly don't care about the pay model. If the game is good with some large open worlds, I'm game.
If the game sucks, then I care about the pay model... only to make fun of it. |

Looks pretty cool, actually. I see that it's action oriented combat. How deep is it? Also, is the world wide and open? Or are we dealing with a Neverwinter? |

Why developers don't allow us to build our character anymore ?

Because players have become a bunch of babies... crying that everything must be perfectly equal.

GDC - James Ohlen - Voiceovers didn't drive the cost up, it was getting the engine to work right that drove costs (through the roof)

Getting the engine to work right? Sounds like a coder problem. Get new coders? lol I mean... seriously.
