I followed the game since Oct. 08. I had a few thousand different posts about the importance of "additional & optional" player-driven content, the importance of deep crafting and world pvp, and the importance of social profession and how they make the world feel much more "alive".

5-10,000 total replies from the other posters, e.g., "Go back to SWG...oh! Wait! You can't!", "This is not a sandbox", "We don't need social tools.", "This game will do fine without all your mentioned trash."

....

"Moral Choices". Comeon, guys! It amazes me how easily people fall for this kind of stuff. The exact same thing was said about SWTOR.

There is always going to be a choice among the "moral" selection that will offer your character a better reward, item stat or faction point.

What does VO really mean? It means that we will all be following the same "legacy" storyline and that our characters will speak for us.

Its sad that you judge the game based on this ... Instanced, not instanced it doesnt matter that much. There are by far more important things that matters in mmorpg that this. And If its well executed it wont be even noticable that its instanced.

Perfect MMORPG for who? You? Everyone?

NOTHING IS PERFECT for everyone.

Even if everyone loved every single thing about that mmorpg, there will always be someone who dont like it.

Also there is no perfect job, car, girl, etc. Its all about personal preferences, taste, priorities. For you Archage might be perfect, for some EQ, for some WoW. For me neither of these are perfect and wont be, either they have ugly gfx (And I didnt buy 7970 lightning to play ugly mmo) or the gameplay dont fits me.

For me .. Perfect mmorpg will be FF XIV. A realm reborn

P.S.: I hope you/we all find THAT one pefect mmorpg where we last for years! Good luck all guys :)

People are just sick of the same spoon-fed crap.

Many players don't care about this topic. That is fine. However, there are many that do care, so I will say that it is a problem.

Well, go get em, Rebel Leader.

Shouldn't you be doing it on the boards of the game you're pissed off at, though?

I'm not playing a MMO.

The background of almost every single trailer or screenshot is the same: an endless vista of land. Most everyone wants to imagine what is out there, e.g., empty land for my guild's future empire, a place to plop my very first home, a place to "get lost", etc.

The actual game is released. The cool vista background? Yup. It's just that... a background. I am hindered by mountains and invisible walls. I am told to stay on the main path and continue my quest line.

The same concept goes for PvP. In SWTOR's Hope Trailer, you see a gigantic Imperial Army that is marching. However, it is ambushed by the Republic! How shocking and heroic! What an element of surprise!

The game launches...   there is literally zero element of surprise. Instanced Warzones / Dedicated PvP area is all there is. People are expecting PvP. Strategies are learned within the first month and every game becomes a rinse/repeat cycle. Moreover, Huttball?

Trailers and demos are nothing but lies.

This is why I'm a fan of ArcheAge. While it does have the same "fluff" trailers, it's no-nda policy provides endless YouTube videos so that we can see what the gameplay will really be like. If a game does not do this, it will most likely be a bad game.

I can't possibly choose only one, as there are several factors that come into play.

#1. World PvP - I will not play a game that is polluted with dedicated pvp areas or instanced pvp.

#2. Freedom and real exploration - I will not a play a game where the world sizes are only a few hundred meters off the main path, e.g., surrounded by invisible walls or mountains.

#3. I will not play a game that is purely story driven, e.g., SWTOR. Story is fine, but don't make me, as well as a million others, to be this special little snowflake in the universe.

Linear story, instanced or dedicated pvp areas, cut-scenes.

Interesting replies, just going back a few days people were whinning because legacy players got into FFXIV ARR phase 1 beta. though that has changed since.

People just aren't understanding that not eveyrone plays MMOs that same. Some like adventure, exploration, socializing, collecting, crafting, griefing, etc.

Many players don't care about this topic. That is fine. However, there are many that do care, so I will say that it is a problem.

Here's an example that I honestly experienced:

A few weeks before Warhammer Online launched, I had attended one of their pre-launch conventions. I lived fairly close, was interested in the game, and knew that any extra codes could be sold via eBay.

I attended. I talked to one of the developers (the one handing out an endless supply codes). I asked him for more. He gave me a handfull!

I claimed one of the codes for myself. I sold the rest on eBay for around $300 per code. They sold within hours.

The game launches. The code that I was given gave me the ability to turn my character into some type of humanoid rat (pretty heavy with the WAR lore - Skaven). I did this. While I was walking around town, I had gotten bombarded with messages, e.g., "How the heck did you do that?!?", "What?!?", "What quest gives you the rat?!?", "Interested in selling!??"

Most of them were upset when I had told them that the only way to obtain this was to attend a pre-release convention.

Moreover, this has nothing to do with socialism or whatever else most people are crying about. If you want a cool item, then go and earn it in the game - not outside it. It was lame that I was able to be semi-iconic simply because I lived close to the convention.

I actually think it's kinda cool to see that stuff.

Does it bother you? If so, does it also bother you when you see that stuff in real life, as well?

No. It doesn't bother me at all in real life. Gaming is not life.

But it bothers you in game that someone got a pink virtual hat for going to an expo?

A pink hat? No. But we both know that that is rarely the case.

Having the Black Spider-Man suit? Yes.

Being able to play as a playable Borg via STO? Yes.

Nope, not at all. I suppose it's because I'm not from the "everyone and everything must be equal or else nobody gets it" generation. My daughters are in school right now and that's all they preach to them. Nothing like raising a society of wussies. Can you imagine some of these people grown up whining to thier boss that someone else has coffee and they don't? Yeaaahhh that's not going to work. If there's no incentive to get something that somebody else wants, there's no incentive to improve yourself or society.

You are so beyond the line that it's not even funny.

All in-game items should be obtained through in-game work. How is that socialism?

Yup, its about how I expected it. Its quiet sad really reading all of thoze replies.

I know! The people who state yes will generally back it up with a statement. The people saying "no" are mostly getting all red-hot.

all those things are available to anyone who puts in the time and effort. if you CHOOSE NOT to put in the time, effort or money then noone is to blame but yourself and IMO you dont have the right to be bothered.

In-game effort should reward you with an item. But what if I had just gotten back from a tour in Iraq? I wasn't able to pre-order.

If you had just come back from Iraq some moronic tchotchkee in game wouldn't mean jack squat to you.

For crying out loud. People took this example too literal and completely missed the point.

It was a bad example... dont ever use it again. Esp since you apparently only used it as an example...

Again, you missed the point. The point was that some people may not have been able to pre-order, heard about the game, lived too far form a convention, etc.

I'd be more worried about making sure I got my college education funding and benefits from the VA, spending time with friends and family, enjoying the sights and sounds of home. Worrying about whether or not I got a purple unicorn to ride around in a video game is kind of a who cares type moment.

Huh?

Perhaps it's just my persona, but I don't like it when I see items that I cannot possibly get. I don't "need" the item or anything, but I feel like there is a part of the game that is missing. I have fun collecting items. I don't know why.

I simply believe that all in-game items should be earned and obtain in the game.

Hi all!

Does it ever bother you to see someone using an item that you cannot get due to the following:

  • Convention Items: In-game items given to people who attended a convention, e.g., Blizzcon, Warhammer Tournament, etc.
  • Cross-Promotion Items: In-game item give to people who purchased other games from the same company, e.g., Purchasing Red Alert III's Collector's Edition will grant your Warhammer Character a rare hat that will turn you into a bear.
  • Founder's Pack Rewards: In-game items for purchasing a variety of Founder Packs (usually $25-$500-$1,000).
  • Pre-Order Rewards: In-game capes, mounts, or items for pre-ordering the game (sometimes different reward per vendor).
  • Collector's Edition Items: In-game item for purchasing a Collector's Edition, e.g., SWTOR's $150.00 CE granting access to a CE store, pets, etc.
  • Contests: In-game items that are won via drawing or screenshot contest etc.
  • 3rd-Party Websites: Joining the developer's facebook page before launch date will give you an in-game item code etc.
