Wow way too much over hyping of GW2.  A lot of you guys are going to be dissapointed.  If you don't love GW1 and you think GW2 will be the best MMO ever you are delusional.

Rift for me, and I love GW1, have hundreds of hours in it, still play it, and am stoked about GW2.

GW1 and GW2 seem to be very different from eachother...

Since you allready tried them both i assume...

Im pretty sure you can watch any of the hundreds of demo videos out there and make an informed opinion on the differences between both games....

None of this comment makes very much sense to me. I think we can all agree here that GW2 is VASTLY different from GW1, and on top of that you end with "Rift" even though you dont give any reason for it, and even afterwards you state how you love GW1 and are stoked for GW2?

Why wouldnt you pick GW2 then? Why did you pick Rift?

I think theres "Overhyping" but choosing Rift just because its an indie game and not a big time production is a little ridiculous. I mean im sorry im looking forward to Rift too, but everything weve seen about GW2 is light years beyond Rift.

GW2 gets my vote, my main complaint with GW1 was that it didnt have any open world elements and had terrible movement controls, so far all ive seen of GW2 has proven to fix those problems.

The game was announced a little less than three years ago wasnt it? And isnt this an indie company?

Come on guys, lets give it some time, this is one of the first gameplay footage vids they have showed, and its not all bad. I laughed once and went "WTF?!" at least twice, thats not too bad in my book.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are people who are paid by game developers to post negative posts, a sort of viral anti-advertising campaign (ie.e don't play that game it sux, play this instead). I'd put my money that these paid forum posters are the people who write these long winded essays about why the game is bad over and over and over.

Then trolls who are bored will jump on the bandwagon of hate and help pile on.

I think your confused how the system works.

Why would a rival developer for lets say Blizzard spend hundreds of thousands of dollars paying for "Forum Posting jobs" to give "Negative" press about a game that "Wasnt their own".

Seriously think about that for one second, apply some real world application to your argument again and then tell me what you think.

Theres no conspiracy here folks, the game just sucks.

Im actually really excited for this, I dont care what people say I think Vampires as the starting content makes sense. Its an easier way to start off then to say having werewolves and everything else too. I mean it remains to be seen but if this game is like EVE but with real avatars im all for it!

Good move Hi Rez, its actually kinda noble, but at the same time hugely profitable for them. I like it. More Companies like this please!

Ive said it before and ill say it again, i just feel bad for that human avatar kid.

Imagine how awkward its going to be for him around his friends now.

Hey man, remember when you got payed like ten grand to make yourself look like a douchebag for that game? lol!

I hate to say it but APB's problem was not the lack of money. The game was just poorly developed, i mean if a high end computer from a couple years back cant run it theres problems.

Still sad to see it close so quickly, i mean its only be out a few months. I think thats the fastest a major retail MMO has ever closed down.

Link fix please!

Peoples logic is so ass backwards.

Ok, so everyone always complains "WoW just took ideas from other mmo's its not even that good."

And then when it comes to defending a different game they will go "Well WoW does it so its ok."

Does no one else notice this? Seriously, this is unacceptable, Also dungeons in WoW are not all the same 4 layouts, maybe in the newer expansions, but there is indoor and outdoor dungeons in WoW, almost all of them have different paths you can take and areas to explore.

This is just blatent laziness, even Mortal Online isnt that bad and its made by an indie dev company.

This is just Cryptic Syndrome all over again, rushing a game out the door and hoping the initial box sales cover the costs and a little extra and then just milking it dry until theres a small playerbase keeping it on life support.

Its so true, and also brings up a good point.

People always defend TOR with the response "This isnt SWG2!"

And for SWG vets, its not abourt being SWG2, in fact I was happy when i heard the game was going to be more of a theme park because the themeparks in SWG were awesome and I thought, "Hey an entire game based around that?! Sounds great!"

But thats the point, is that its not even good for a linear Themepark game, especially when you account for Lore and budget. Its too much MMO and not enough Star Wars.

Correction, its too much bland MMO not enough Star Wars.

SWG on the other hand was too much of everything, the game was horribly imbalanced because they tried to cram so much into the world. And even after that, they expanded the game beyond what they expected.

Great post though, +1 indeed!

Decent interview with good answers, but MMORPG.COM needs to listen more closely to ArenaNet is saying because they clearly don't get with with questions like this:

You talked a lot about camaraderie among players. Many MMOs have lost this on a wide level because of guild groups and smaller factions. How do you see players joining up on a large scale in Guild Wars 2?

MMOs haven't lost  this broad camaraderie, MMOs never had it outside of PvP content.   Previous MMOs starting from UO were based on pitting players in competetion with each other for resources in PvE (XP, gold etc).   That was because it slowed down everyone and insured those monthly subscriptions kept coming in.

DOAC was able to achieve a broader sense of server camaraderie as far as PvP went which is why that game is still brought up as an example but no game has done that the PvE side

ArenaNet is not trying to re-capture something that MMOs have lost.   They are creating something that has never existed in the genre, a truly cooperative MMO where you look forward to seeing another player, rather than view them as someone who is going to steal your XP/kill.

Don't try repainting the past.  Recapturing old-school MMORPGs in not the goal of GW2 because those "glory days" never existed, they never had the kind of gameplay that GW2 is offering.   The goal seems to be to take the fundemantal traditions of those previous MMOs and bury them.      ArenaNet has had to fly in the face of the inherently flawed mechanics of  old-school MMORPGs (from the class trinity  to the leveling curve to server cooperation to all the rest) to do what they are doing.   And if they pull it off, this genre will finally see some long-overdue evolution.

Not true that camaraderie exists only with PVP. Everquest you had to group or be in a tight or large guild or you were at a huge disadvantge in leveling. The community was really good and making friends or at least allies happened every time you played. The main reason the communities stopped being important is because games cater to a larger, more casual player base leading to less challenging mechanics-soloing, no death penalties, easier leveling, etc. If you don't need to interact with community to succeed, then most won't. Hate to say it, but you have to force the grouping so players have to depend on each other. That builds trust and camaraderie. That is why the dynamic events model is so interesting, it encourages grouping/interaction, but doesn't force it, add open world pvp and the community should be strong and active.

Great post! +1

If your a fan of Zero Punctuation or you want to see a different spin on MMO's and storytelling, you should check out this book. I just read the first excerpt from it and im hooked.

Basically its about this random mob character from an MMO named jim who has to deal with living in an MMO game world.  Its probably one of the most original takes on the MMO scene ive ever read.

Check out the prologue at Amazon

Who else is going to grab this one when it release next month?

First of all, Zeroxin, I know that you were the first to post these on the forum (its in two separate posts, 3 links on the first page of the "English version of the GW2 live stream demo", and the other 2 on the second page) but I was dying to see them in one single post at the beginning of the thread, because you've drawn our attention to some awesome footage, and I'm nervous about some people missing all 5 videos. I'm very pleased with them, and I hope you don't mind.

Watch these in order from first to last (and give the videos in the last 2 links some time to load). Its more than enough demo footage for those who are still on the fence. While I have my own personal concerns about a few minor issues that I could be nitpicky about, we need to keep in mind that this is basically in its alpha stage, so many things could be added, thrown out, or improved before the final touches are made. Think about it though...if the demo looks and plays like this right now, imagine the final version at release...

(just another fanboy hoping he doesn't end up having to eat his own words)

Very sweet indeed.  I think these videos just convinced me to buy this game.  Might not be everyones cup of earl gray, but it seems like its mine.  Im getting very excited for this game.

That Star Trek referance was very well placed sir, and yea i cant not be excited for this game right now.

I agree with lobo. Yes APB was a dissapointment, but it did try to do something different.

I think if the game had been made 5 years in the future it would have faired better. The system specs were just too high and the high speed internet needed made it very difficult to play even on a good system.

Still I think they did try very hard to make a great game, whatever went wrong development side is a shame.

Well deserved GW2! Cant wait to see more of the game world and the full class list!

It only shows amongst other things how truely lost theiy are while doing this "MMO"...

Exactly, this isnt innovative at all. Its sticking another type of game onto a exsisting one. Its like if I had an FPS where every mission you got to play Tetris at the end of it. Thats not making the game any better its just a brea kfrom the tedium of doing the same thing over and over.

This is what I hate, MMO's like TOR arent "Worlds" they are just "Games". Now Im fine with an MMO being a game, as long as its got adventure and excitement, but when you can blow through content on your own, without any real danger its not fun. In a singleplayer game you can die and have to start from a save point, but in an linear MMO you just keep on going.

At least none of my friends are intrested in the game either, that makes it a little easier to bare. With every recent MMO title theres always been one friend of mine who would be into a game and wed all end up getting it.

Luckily TOR appeals to none of my friends. The Star Wars friends I have are pissed and want nothing to do with it, and the MMO friends are dissapointed and shun the game as an MMO. At least SWG kept both sides happy even if it was a niche market.

This is what we like to call a bitter SWG vet.   What you are looking for BioWare was never planning on providing,  you can always go back to SWG though. I'm sure they'll be happy to have you back.

This has nothing to do with SWG, which is why i added it as an afterthought a point to think about. Im not asking Bioware to "Provide" me with anything. But I will certainly sit here and debate whether or not its a cop out. Because it is.

Also your response has even less stick to it, because why cant I be a Rogue Squadron vet? or an Xwing vs. Tie fighter vet?

Because your using a power word, your saying "SWG vet" because you know it will generate a poitive response from others like you who only think about things in one dimension. See both sides of a situation, and think objectively. Or you know what, dont?

But how will that benefit anyone if we dont debate and converse and try to understand each other.

I could see why a casual game fan, or a small child would like this. Because its mindless fun. The point is, the idea of an MMO has become so saturated, that people will put up with things like this. If no one ever takes a stand and says otherwise then things would be aweful.

Why should I hault my opinion because you decide that you like this version better? No ill continue to debate about it, because its black and white, as Dio would say "Heaven and Hell".

I dont hate TOR fans, but i dislike whats being done with the game and its my mission to talk about it. All Im asking for is a rebuttle that isnt a personal attack or an attempt at something other than reaching a conclusion that we can both somewhat agree on. And if we cant reach that, then so be it, but we should at least try.

Honestly you already said you never planned on playing the game to begin with, so why are you even debating it? Why would space matter in TOR if you never planned to play it?

Also you do come off as a disgruntled swg vet who probably still plays the game and may be worried about how many folks TOR may pull away from that game.

That is all.

Seriously, to many people complain about the space feature. For one, they came out and said it was a side feature and secondly, there is still time to improve upon this. WoW didn't have all the bells and whistles when it was first released so stop rushing to judge and wait. You people with no patience need to be kicked in the nuts. Whose to say that when the game launches that soon after they have an expansion or release an update that makes space combat better.

Alright look, im not going to come out and insult your intelligence, but can you honestly tell me that you are making a well thought out assesment on this subject?

Think about it, how are they going to change a part of the game thats a Rail Shooter into say a full fledged flight game, or even one where you get to fly around on your own?

It just wont happen, its not in the cards for TOR. When WoW came out it had the core systems in place to make battlegrounds and other systems work. To change the space combat into something other than a rail shooter would take years of reworking, they would most likely just have to restart from scratch.

And when SWG came out it had the core mechanics in it for JTLS ... oh.. no it didn't.

If you've ever played a tunnel shooter, you'd know  that many of the tunnel shooters people akin TOR to also had open flight options for more of a roaming style of gameplay.  Rogue Squadron has been given as an example a few times,  maybe you should see what that game has to offer.  It would not be hard to modify this current system to allow for roaming or PvP gameplay.

Hes not talking about adding in space later though, hes talking about changing the space combat we already have and are watching, which even you can agree is impossible.
