I Started playing this week and I am very dissapointed in the game.  After about a day of playing around I quickly realized the major weakness in the game. The Shotgun. Take firearms to pump 5, equip a shotgun and wellcome to easy mode.

Easy mode? Yep... Easy mode. At 21 I can take a group of 10-20 mobs. Round them up by using terrain as a blocker and then open up on them after they are grouped. First shot is doing 10-20k damage and knocking 25% down. Second shot takes down 25% of those remaining and does the same amount of damage. Boom boom boom all dead.

This little method can be further enhanced by the reverse strafe and corridors in instances. Got a tough boss... Easy... Kite him with the shot gun knocking him down or reverse strafe him.

The other great thing about the shotgun is that there is no penalty for using it while on the move. A kiters dream.

So... Where am I going with this? Well... Not one weapon from what I can see even comes close to the shotgun you get at the beginning of the game. Why give me all kinds of weapon choices and abilities that pale in comparison. I laugh myself sily when I see folks using machine guns, rifles launchers and pistols on groups of mobs.

Anyway... I could go on and on about the mechanics in the game but I think you get the idea. Game needs a huge balancing and revamp of the combat system to become in any way challenging.

Well I'm tired of herding/kiting mobs so its back to one of my other mmo's. I do think the game has alot of potential and will do well with a balanced combat system and some pvp that is not clan vs clan.

Good luck all you paid beta testers...

Rean

Wow, 10-20k damage at 21?

please tell me what you did to get those numbers, you must have like farmed for hours in the badlands to get an uber weapon or something cause I barely get 2k at 25 with  5 firearms.

-Jive

I think one object of the development people need to realize is that, the game is self funded by the company, and this is not one of those huge vanguard type games, where so much money went into the game that you can feed a small country with the price tag alone.

From where this game was to where it is now is a huge leap and the company should be proud.

Unfortunatly though I refuse to play a game that is not immersive in the factyou have to instance around and even in combat, just takes the fun right out of a pirtate game.

This game should have been more cut-throat if you ask me, more of a real PIRATE experiance, and not a fair game.

Sadly Fair games are not fun. Would life be half as fun if you never died?

No it wouldnt you know why, because everyday will be the same, you never have to worry or be scared, or anything.

Same goes for MMO's there needs to be risks and fears, not just carebear "FUN!"

-Jive

I hope they get in major debt cause of this, and sell off the STO rights to try and gain back some cash.

Seriously why can no one make an MMO we all want anymore?

Why do people do this get rich quick bull? it bugs me to all sorts of things.

-Jive

Wow ok, so this is def on my wish list! When does this game come out, cause i think this is the sand box us mmorpg's have been looking for!

Just so you know, I have severe arthritis in my back, knees, elbows, wrist, knuckles, fingers etc. It's really bad when you get old and pay for your lifestyle when you was younger.

All that aside, I send honest thanks for a reasonable suggestion and taking the time to reply to my post.

I can see where it may seem so, but you have to understand they are doing this to try and "Get the Word" out in a different way.

Normal games you DL the free trial, then what thats it.

For this, you get it from someone, and if you sign up they get a free month. ITs rewarding the people who actually play the game, for a minor inconvience to new comers. I wish more companies would listen and help their player base like that.

You know why? If you get the three day trial and dont like it, Ok you dont play, but wouldnt if you had a free month from inviting someone, just maybe want to stay around a little longer or check back in. If anything wouldnt you just feel good about not having to pay the extra money.

Plus you can make a friend out of it, I already made one, to a guy i gave one of my codes out to, never knew him and me and him play in game now.

Its just different is all but even though you dislike which i dont think that is wrong, i think it is something to be respected.

What you talking about" didn't put much emphasis on the character creation portion as most MMO's do?"

Have you seen WoW or any cookie cutter mmo from asia? or FFXI for that matter.

They definetly put in alot to the creation system. I find it odd that most of your posts are very two faced. In one post you will say you like the game and then in others you will spout about its problems. I really want to know do you really like TR? or are you just one of those kids who plays a game for 5 years, and likes to complain the whole time?

-Jive

I'm sorry you must have misunderstood me Jive.  So first let me waste some time defending myself, and answer a few questions.  Yes I have played other MMO's from both the west and the east (click my XFire to see a few that I have played).

I was refering to the character creation portion of the game, not the customization as a whole.  In the character creation screen, you are limited to a select few faces, hair and facial options.  You can color your armor, hair, skin as well.  Granted just these few things are better than some F2P games, but if you have ever played City of Heroes or City of Villians you'd be eating crow.  The character creation portion of the game is on par with other games, but overall they didn't put emphasis on it.  They put the emphasis on the armor and the gameplay.  Besdies why should they when the various kinds of armor you get will cover up all these specific details.

Recap: Character Customization (Creation)
• Handful of Faces to choose from
• Handful of custom pieces
• Many colors to choose from
• Decent selection of hair

Overall a decent system but far from the best or most detailed.  I'm not going to sugar-coat this portion, but don't take this as a means for dislike.  In fact I have no issue with the character creation or the game itself.  I enjoy the game and will continue to support it.  Does that mean I can't state the truth when presented?

Don't get me wrong by calling me out to be a "kid" because you misunderstood my comment.

EDIT: Also you might not of picked up on my sense of sarcasim in my initial post.

Its ok, I understand what you meant now I took it as the normal Ho-hollar talk that people like to do around the forums as how bad the game is and such. I think people who really do like TR will get defensive because its either a love or hate game.

Now that I know which side your on, I understand. Ive played COH as well, and ya your right the game is mainly for the character creation and combat, like i spent more time making characters than playing them.

Why choose faces, hair style and colors, if we can't even see characters faces in 97% of time?

Good point.

Looks at his avatar.

Perhaps thats why they didn't put much emphasis on the character creation portion as most MMO's do.  I do though from time to time remove my helmet for a breath of fresh air, and for other various RP situations.

Yawn.

If the game would have been released the way it looked in 2004 everyone would be screaming F2P as it was almost identical to many Free To Play asian grindfest games. Like i said glad they choose a different route then what we saw back then, which wasn't in any way original. Geuss you only comment on the small part i copy/pasted and not the full report where the link is there for.

I think everyone should just look at how much work they did remodeling and remaking a game in 2 years with this much sucsess seriously the game looks great now. Also how the Eloh have all their stuff from the old game is neat, and i can guarentee player housing now seeing as it was an oginial game mechanice that im sure RG will want back in.

so far i've been playing for about a week now. So far in my experience, the game is a bit lacking in some aspects. But i will admit, the quests are good, it has to persistant world atmosphere, and its a new kind of mmorpg style.

However, it still has a lot of flaws. partying is almost non existant unless you know someone beforehand or you join a clan on a forum. LFG channel is there but barely used. leveling is done by quests so no one will really wanna level with you unless you are on the same quests.

Base attacks are kinda fun but have their flaws. One time I managed to jump over the enemy base wall and then capture the entire enemy base filled with enemies all by myself (just waited for enemies to move away from the control tower).  I dont know why people say this game isnt a grind. It is a huge grind, but quest grind. nothing to do really except grind quest after quest. theyre ok but not as good as guild wars missions. So far my community interaction(is there one?) has been minimal in game, one of the reasons being that its very difficult to differentiate regular ppl from npc so most people just treat everyone as if they are npc.

Also way too much running around in the game. theres no way to teleport back to ur base if you are really far away in the wilderness, just have to walk back. if you die you suffer a death penalty.

The biggest flaw i've seen so far are the skills. not only are they ugly, half of them are garbage/broken, and half of them are "mastery" type skills that will allow you to equip a certain weapon and do more dmg with it per level. They are also cumbersome to use because its not like the normal 1,2,3,4,5 hotkey to activate. you have to press the number or switch to the weapon and then press right button to activate. i know it doesnt sound like too much but sometimes it lags or doesnt register and this is not the type of game where you have spare time to lose in the heat of battle. Cast times are way too long for such a fast paced playstyle.

First off, OVERHYPED?! are you serious? This game wasnt hyped at all, in fact all its beta reviews were bad, it wasnt until the game was reviewed and shipped that it got any type of praise.

Cast times are way to long?

they are instance casts, seriously this is the worst rant post i have seen yet, you people need to learn that your little simple problems doesnt mean anything to us here.

Go back to Meridan 59, or Hobbo hotel.

you make baby jesus cry

-Jive

yeah, cast times are way to long. i'll give you an example, rage. it has a 1.5 sec cast time. not very good when u are in the heat of battle. when they nerf the skill, rage will be pretty bad just because of this crap cast time.  so yeah, thats called a cast time- its not instant because you have to wait a little bit before the skill activates. does your tiny brain need more of an explanation?

1.5 second cast time...LAWLS!!!

Roleplaying?
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa

I Find myself doing most of the RPing in the heat of battle, when i see snipers coming over a ridge, I will say things to my squad like "11 o clock snipers on the ridge" or something to that effect. Its fun to RP like your actually in the heat of battle, but after the battle is over there is almost no RP unfortunatly because of the LACK of bars, or any other social hubs.

They need the cantina from SWG input that and the game will be flawless.

-Jive

you know why Tabula Rasa is like the old SWG?

Because I can be whatever I want just like in SWG. I am level 24 and Im still using pistols, you know why? BECAUSE I CAN!! I think its more badass to kill with a pistol then a minigun. Most people just want to get the next more "Powerful" gun. Well in this game you can wield a pistol the whole way through (yea im only level 24 but my friend is 46 and still using pistols as well)

The only thing I wish they would improve would be making it so Hand to Hand combat worked better, cause I wanted to do that as well, like just fight with my fists but it is too un-efficent.

Basically what im trying to say is, its not like most games wear you outlevel all your gear and abilites, everything stays good the whole way through.

Anyone who wants to be like a true SWG player again, go into the game and become a Sniper, they get some abilites you guys might remember such as..

Called Shot

Leg Shot

Body Shot

Torso Shot

Head Shot

So yea, do it!

-Jive

Probably the best post ever, playing with it right now.

The Future
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa

I think it would be neat to see some time travel missions. I know every mmo is doing it these days but come on, wouldnt it be badass to go back into like the old west, and have to fight the bane.

Its just too cliche to be passed up seriously.

Also I would like to see some social aspect placed in, such as Real taverns with drunkenness involved. and Guild strongholds. Which could be east seeing as they are coming out with those Clan Control points. So as soon as you capture a clan CP you can just make that your base.

-Jive

Motherships need to happen, and on top of that, besides ground units like the PAU there needs to be a ADPU or

Aerodynamic Protection Unit!

Exp Curve?
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa

I mean I havent been to 20 yet, im still hitting 19, but from what all my friends and the people on the forums are saying is that EXP becomes rediculous to level after 20.

I think that even the earlier on game could be a tad bit less harsh on exp but I do sort of like it the way it is.

But....

Yea seriously I was on a kill streak with 250% exp bonus for quite a long time today and I didnt get much exp at all. I do agree they need to reaise the exp gained by at least double, cause leveling is rediculous, and im not saying that because I think its too hard, im just syaing it because it honestly is too tedious no matter who you are.

Let's be honest:

I got in on the head start. The gameplay can be fun and it can be a real pain in the neck too. I've yet to complete a Target of Opportunity mission set without GM intervention because the Mission Log refuses to see things I've done. Some missions just plain won't work. (Operation: Termination for instance and isn't the only one.) The 1st patch is out and well, I didn't really see any difference on the positive side. I DID see they managed to turn the footlocker into a mini side game of juggle my character logins to find the precise combination that will let me SEE my stuff let alone get it OUT of the locker. Sometimes I can see it, but not transfer stuff. Other times I can't see my stuff but can transfer things INTO the footlocker (I hope). Then there are the times I can get into my locker, get what I want without a problem....but if I forget something and have to go back in, the process starts all over again. Not only that, but trying to find the proper item for a mod I have is a mini game of hunt the pink block. 50% of the mod items are a pink block icon. They don't even stack themselves. I have to do it. Frustrating.

Never used a locker so I cant say anything about this.

I love the classes. I've been playing a Ranger so far. Pump 5 stealth armor lets me get into a ton of places without having to stand and blast the mobs. However, I have to be completely honest too. Carpet Bomb needs a LOT of work. If there is the slightest terrain variation between myself and the target, it will execute (costing me power and money) but won't fire. A 30ft tall stalker saved by a mound, tree stump or rock is just silly. Frustrating.

I too am a Ranger, and I have Tier 2 carpet bombs, and the only problem I have had is like you said hitting the stalkers but thats a height thing not a terrain thing, Ive never had a problem with Carpet bombing normal enemies.

I like the style. I like the game...but the problems add up to one thing only: FRUSTRATION.

While the game play can be fast, fun and frantic.....frustration simply trumps it all.

15 bucks a month + 50 bucks for the game at this stage? I can't reccomend it. Will I go back some day? Hard to say. I really wanted this game to work, but constant /petitions and all the other frustrations point out that this is for entertainment ONLY. So far, the entertainment is only in the run and gun aspect and nothing more.

I've also seen a lot of discussion concerning "kill x mobs" missions, folks this game is nothing BUT kill x mobs missions. 200 of these, 20 of those, 6 bosses, find the 6 caves, give me 35 gooey things, hunt down 4 of these items and I won't give clue one as to where they can be found....the list is endless.  Now, all this is glossed over by fans saying "but you can get those in or out of missions!". Yes, you can. Still doesn't change the fact that MMO makers can't think of anything else to fill the void.

Actually I honestly dont see that many missions that are "Kill" that, its more or less blow up x amount or kill overseer such and such. Its def not how you put it, that all the missions are like that. Its def alot less than your average MMO. The 200 and all that is normally for the mission to get a clone credit which arent required and are long term anyways so you dont really notice.

The INSTANCES can be quite fun. However, they too have problems. Boss creatures not dropping keys to get past doors(level 17 and havent experianced this problem), causing a reset (however you do that). Some instances won't reset unless you log out for at least 10 minutes (this is a GM suggested fix btw). 10 minutes after you spent 15-20 trying to find a suitable crew to go through the mission. We attemped Torcastra prison 3 times last night...the boss never dropped the key. 4th try in, he did. Problem is, it took 20-30 minutes just to get to him every time. Fustration.

Lobomau, I understand you really like this game...you must have a higher tolerance to frustration than I do. The game play side is fun that's about the only part I agree with. I'm not a hater. My expectations were not high but they couldn't go any lower now.

As much as it sounds like you tried to make a nice, none offensive post,  but It sounds more or less that you are over-exagerating to get your point across that you dislike this game.

Then again you could be an unlucky person who really is experiancing all these problems, if so, and if you really do respect the game give it another try in a couple weeks, with the new "Auctiuon houses" and try and find the game again, for me, im looking to get level 30 in the next couple months, so i can finally be a sniper. That the thing I find Frustrating!

That I have to go through more than half the game ot be the class I want but then again I guess thatsthe reason i play too haha.

it looks as though they will be adding a small amount of added content into the game later Jan/early feb, but the main content addition won't be hitting the servers until late 2008

looks like my initial assesment of 'wait 6 motnhs and look again' was optimistic

I dont care how long it takes them for an expansion, as long as it brings something new to the table,

but look at WoW and City Of Heroes

It took COH a year to mkae their first expansion and WoW 3 Years!!! So I dont think this is any major news.

Plus look at what they are adding in the first update for the game, PAU and Hybrids.

Thats more than most mmo's get in a years time by far. The only other game I have seen pump out so many good features early on is SWG.

Which no one can argue seeing as they put out Vehicles, Mounts, Player Cities, and a Space Expansion.

Thats worthy of a monthly fee as I know TR will be.
