Are we gamers nothing but lemmings being led through road tolls.
General Gaming « General Discussion 8/06/12 11:19:53 AM
It's not econmically sound to create products that last. MMORPG's might be the exception but, I don't know the exact business side of it so it's hard to say. For sure though, the less a company has to do and the higher the consumer has to pay the better for the company, isn't it that simple?

Poll: Does this prove SWG was the better game?
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 8/05/12 12:27:13 AM
I liked SWG more but I'm not convinced it was a better game. I don't think this proves anything other than a failure on EA / Biowares part.
As for why SWTOR failed, and I think we can now all agree it was a failure since the EA CEO believes it is, it failed because the guys in charge made bad decisions... End of story.
I do believe that if the game was a smash it would have destroyed WOW. The market is waiting on that next gen mmo, maybe the unreal engine 4 can make that happen. |

Love the Site But Not All of the Articles
Site Suggestions « General Discussion 8/04/12 10:11:49 PM
Who can deny that profit is a great motivator? On the other hand, I personally know many people who are satisfied, elated even at some of the games, movies, music that I find to be just straight and plain trash.
I mean, some of these people I am referring to prefer SWTOR to Skyrim. To me that's crazy, and this is coming from a guy whose read almost every single starwars novel. I can tell you right now, I'm not even a fan of the Elder Scrolls lore per say. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not impossible that the bloggers / columnists here are writing their genuine opinions.
I'm a ones and zeros type of guy so I think most things fall under correct and incorrect, so when I hear an opinion that is completely opposite of mine I sometimes wonder if the dude saying it is just stupid, obviously I'm assuming my opinion is right and a matter of fact.
In the end, independant bloggers are the ones who have nothing to lose, therefore are least likely to lie, or so says logic. |

I think that I finally understand why most new games are still DirectX 9.0c

This is all pretty interesting and I appreciate everyones input. Long story short, when do I get my eye candy aka next gen graphics, a timeframe 2-5years?
And what does this say about Unreal Engine 4? |

Hate to say it but the ppls have a point. No one even wanted to admit swtor would go F2P in less than a year, seem to be all the same ppl saying that the genre isn't dead.
I'm pretty sure, while Bioware made have made an RPG, they forgot the MMO, and other games forget the RPG and only have half an MMO. This is just in general, there are some games around that are gems. Do not forget though, there is a real possibility that asain interests will dominiate, if they don't already, the multiplayer market space and leave us with nothin but korean grindfest MU online level 1-465 kill kill kills.
There are a lot of issues with MMORPG's, some that cannot be fixed through design. Players these days have less time to spend gaming. People in general gave less time to spend on anything other than work. Forcing game makers to consider the more accessible gaming route.
I don't think the genre is dead, maybe dying, and maybe it can make a comback but I don't know if the direction it's going is leading to the light or to the void. |

If you remember, you could get amazing stuff from master level bosses, and before that I believe crafted gear could get your resists up much higher than what you could get otherwise. Even the big bosses in Darkness Falls had some good stuff on'em. I haven't played WvWvW in GW2 but I did have an amazing time in DAoC in RVR in NF and later in the Lab. I thought, though annoying Realm Rank was fine. It made things very challenging, that is, until a RR13 Reaver came and Reaver bombed everyone. I think part of the fun in DAoC was the act of facing off against different races that had different classes. It's just not fun to face exact same classes over and over, done it in WOW before. Having completely different classes with different animations makes a difference. |

I got caught for buying gold this Monday, thx god, bliz didn't ban me
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/04/12 12:20:35 PM
I have to say, in a game like WOW I dont think buying gold is a big deal. It does saturate the economy a little but, worse things have happened.
My GF has a great time in WOW, manipulating the AH. It's a hobby for her to go into a game and ruin the economy through tools like the AH. In WOW, she had close to 3 million gold not including the value of mats. Some days she would just log on to buy out an entire resource only to hold it hostage until the weekend. I wasn't broke either but I didn't have that kind of gold. I remember having to spend 5k just to level enchanting about 20 points just because she had bought out the mats I needed and re-auctioned them at ridiculous prices. Of course I got my refund later... In gold, but I think that's far worse then buying a measily 30k. People need 30k after players like my GF are finished EFF'ing shit up.
Then they mention the negative impact of buying gold.... There is always an opposite argument. One of those being player happyness. It's not like dailys and leveling crafting are particularly fun, matter of fact, I was not impressed with either system. So as much as they want to talk about negative impacts, if i'm not having fun and a little gold could fix that, then whats the big deal, it's a video game. |

Activision/Blizzard shares down 5% on drop of subs notice
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/04/12 11:16:52 AM
I'm just suprised WOW is still as strong as it is. In any case, that's why they're developing Titan, another flagship to replace the falling WOW revenue.

If it's F2P and a friend begs me to play then I would consider it. That still won't get me inside the cash shop lol.

@OP I can totally identify with what you're saying. If you are not having fun with MMO's or games in general, walk away, I cannot stress this enough. Get another hobby that can equally entertain you, maybe in the same budget range as gaming, if you can. It's not worth it if you feel like you're dredging through entire games on after the other.
I don't think there is a shift in the thought process of gamers, you will always have large groups of people interested in all kinds of things. Lots of people still play WOW and like it, just as people like GW2 and hate WOW. Just as most insanely hot girls don't go near MMO's and only like makeup or w/e I hope I got my point across.
There is a market for everything including eating monkey brains while they're still alive. I think it just hasn't been done as well as it could be done, yet. |

Yes, It's still worth it to build your own system. No doubt Quiz will be along shortly to give you the lay of the land. What he may ask are the specs of the hardare you've already purchased such as hard drive, whether or not you already have a SSD etc... Most importantly, do not go out and purchase a prebuilt from bestbuy lol. |

Too Much Hyperbole both positive and negative
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/03/12 6:09:23 PM
Originally posted by MMOSavant You have a solid point. Obviously F2P isn't the best model for Publishers. Maybe because of erratic revenue streams or, because you can count on and show steady and already accounted for profits with subs. Aslo, if a game fails you don't necessarily have to refund the sub fee. There are probably a ton more reasons, bottom line, they were aiming for the standard subcription fee model.
SWTOR and Rift are different in the way that, Rift didn't pop 300mill on development and another 200mill on network TV commercials, or whatever they spent on advertising.

Please do not demand additional features
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/03/12 5:58:49 PM
Normally I don't start demanding game features until I've put in a decent amount of hours in it. Now a days that seems to be around 10hrs but what you say suggests you are speaking of games that are not yet released. In that case, I say as much fan feedback they can get, the better. If we're talking about a racing game and people want, I dunno, airplanes or avatars that wear cool pants, then I understand what you mean but, Dev's don't take that into account anyway.
I'm actually starting to believe Dev's don't take many of the fan feedback into account. I say that in general because more and more I read about how Dev's get these really compact deadlines from executives rushing a game due to marketing or some kind of quik prift motive, whatever, something business related rather than what would be good for the game.
Also, with so many gamers complaining ABOUT gamers complaining I'm just at the point where I'm not even going to play these mediocre games anymore. I can skip the whining, and the whining about the whining, and just relax. If I have to, I can just reinstall old games that have the options I want and take the hit in graphics. |
